Wiki October Update

Alright, so this update is just to have a record of progress for Patrons. A lot of work has been done in the background, but it's work no Patron will ever see, and that's because it involves the advertising that appears on the site.

I would like the primary income of the site to come from supporters like you all, but it's just not there yet, not even to support the base costs to keep the site running and fast.

I originally started with Google Adsense, as most do. I quickly found out that unless you're a blog style static website, you make very little.

A few months ago I was approached by the company Ezoic. This company is the one currently displaying ads on the site. In the first month, things were well. The site was sustaining itself well. But as time went on, Ezoic's advertising income slowed down.

About 6 weeks ago, I was approached by Playwire, another advertising company. From what I have read, they poll better than Ezoic, and due to my inexperience in ad publishing, the only way to know who works better is to try them.

So for the past 6 weeks, I've been going back and forth with Playwire's integration. It's been...difficult. The support documentation for SPA sites (app style websites like dokkan.wiki) is sparse, and through my implementation I've discovered a lot of issues that I needed to work through. Not just with Playwire, but even with iubenda, the company I use for my cookie consent and privacy policy.

When I implemented Ezoic, I was in Discord chat with one of their integrators. So I was rapidly able to integrate due to being able to ask questions and get support in real time.

Unfortunately with Playwire, the entire integration has happened over emails. It's been over 30 emails, from figuring out tax issues (I wasn't allowed to start integrating until tax information was verified), to only getting one answer a day. Just for me to try their fix, and going back and forth again. (Playwire's integrator that has been helping has been helpful and patient, nonetheless).

So I spend 6+ hours each day, almost just spinning my wheels. Then I got sick, hand infection, blah blah more excuses that really don't matter.

I feel like I'm done now, with the Playwire integration. You can test it yourself at https://beta.dokkan.wiki and even see some ads that might make enough to seriously support the site at https://beta.dokkan.wiki/?google_preview=k-lNhI3ijOsY4MLLmgYw4N6AogaIAYCAgODEleLBngE&iu=154013155&gdfp_req=1&lineItemId=6108746864&creativeId=138403804650

Despite all this, I have gotten good progress done with the events. You know, once you really dig into it, there's a lot of data to record for an event. Not only do you have the event list (images, news, start conditions, cost, times, requirements) but those events can show up for keys, z-battle, story, quests, etc. Then you have to run the event to get even more information, like boss data. How the heck do I properly run events without interrupting the normal checking of data downloads? Can't do both at the same exact time. Maybe a second Dokkan device? Can I mirror IPA's on phones?

I'll make a proper update focusing on the event progress soon.

I appreciate all of you that support the site, even when things are slow!
