Good Morning, Question for you :)

Coffee photo of the day!

I’m thankful for another day and opportunity and of course coffee 😛☕️ I hope you all have an amazing day today.

Also I have a random question. Some of you guys may have knowledge about. As you all know I’m always freezing. I bundle up and turn on the heater but sometimes I’m still cold. We have a not new house at this point, almost ten years old. It has a crawlspace that has a thin piece of plastic and some standard insulation.

I looked up crawlspace encapsulation and got a quote. Some forums say it’s worth it, others say it’s not. Then you want to find the right contractor of course. Do you all have any experience with this? I doubt we’d make money back with energy savings but in terms of keeping the house warmer it may be worth it. We don’t plan on moving any time soon. What do you think?

Good Morning, Question for you :)

Insulate underneath your floor, install a vapor barrier, have a pressure test done on the interior (it identifies air leaks around doors, windows, wall outlets, etc, and look at how much attic insulation you have. You need to be warm so you can enjoy your coffee in the nude!

What a wonderful sight to wake up to! Sorry, I don't know anything about heating and cooling.

Radiant heating may be something else to consider.

Also you can get really good gains by ensuring all your windows are sealed properly, attic insulation is good, and install insulation in your outlet to block drafts.

It depends on the insurance contact as a product. Some have for concerns and other are concerned with improper application that could retain moisture and lead to wood rot.

Good morning sweetheart you look lovely this morning

An overall energy management audit helped me when I moved into my condo 7 years ago. It pointed out areas that were drafty and I saved almost half on my energy bill after fixing a few areas. In a previous home a I did the crawl space renovations you are talking about and it also have other benefits other the energy saving and I would recommend it.

my home in Georgia had that done...but it also had vents that I had to open in the Summer and close in the Winter...I personally didn't notice a difference but have heard it helps....I haven't had a frozen water line there or up here in Iowa so who knows...I will say that in Georgia the carpet was never cold and the linoleum was never warm...here in Iowa, it's all carpet...if you can afford it, an investment never hurts and you may indeed notice a difference...

John

Do it! I did it 35 years ago and cut my heat bills in half. Plus, what is your comfort worth? Now, don't get me wrong, I do love seeing those cold perky nipples but I think in your case, they are always on high beam.

JB

Haha well thank you

Memoirs of Steph

Yeah :) that's our thought too

That makes sense

Haha he's such a grumpy cat but I'm always sure to spoil him

No opinion on the insulation beyond, tighter is better, but I love the photo! 🤯😸

David

If you all are staying put for a while, then an investment into keeping your home warmer would be a good idea.

Terealius

For me the insulation was the bigger help

Why is spray foam under question do you think?

Memoirs of Steph

Thanks Steve. That’s very helpful to hear. I may consider doing that

Thank you Ray for the insight

Another option…u and hubby do more spooning..😇

It is a good idea but I'd use batt insulation over foam as insurance companies are getting concerned about foam. It is good to in insulate but be sure you have a vapor barrier. Treat it like a pier and beam insulated floor. Another option is to insulate the crawlspace itself like a basement but that is only good if you also use it as an air buffer.

Derek Gilboe

Ray is on point.,I agree 1000%

Steve Jones

On first floor…typo above.,sorry

Steve Jones

Good morning…have first hand experience, had it done this year…pest company did it. I had serious moisture issues why we had it done. Not much impact on warmth. However, more warmth….i had the insulation in my attic updated with additional amounts..plus had our floors on floor updated with spray insulation. Food for thought Steve

Steve Jones

Good morning. Lot of places have the minimum insulation to pass inspection. It's a good idea to double up or get spray foam inslation to up the "R" value.

Ray

I love it
