Behind the scenes of Funfair: The first comic (1/2)

-inhales- Oh boy...

THIS is the first visual prototype of Funfair, and the first iteration of the comic to feature the amusement park theme (which eventually stayed!) However, you'll probably notice the first few panels are already quite different... and my art-style back then was very "of its time".

Here's my take on what's happening, going from memory:

Banjo: Take a picture of me with the mascot, Conker! (World's shortest mascot?)
Conker: -grumble- There. Happy?
Banjo: Whoa... Check it out, Conker! There's someone pissing in the trees in the back!
Conker: ... What?! Show me!
Banjo: What are the odds! Ha ha ha ha!

Banjo: Hey, bud! Wanna try out that carnie game there?
Conker: No thanks. Have fun.

Banjo: -plays the game and wins- Da-na-na-naaa! I got you a Yoshi plushie!
Conker: ... Really, a plushie? Do I look like I'm 7 years old?
Banjo: Well, kinda... hmm...
Banjo: ... Hey, bud. Check this out! -Banjo thrusts his groin at the plushie-
Conker: What the— Are you CRAZY?!

So, it's a fair bit different... Banjo is a lot saucier and less innocent in this, so he's more so trying to get Conker to laugh by being vulgar and juvenile. I can't say this is any accurate to how I normally picture him, but at least this didn't make it in the final comic. Banjo's a sweetheart!

On the other hand, Conker isn't too different. Maybe he's a little less gloomy and more cranky! I do like Conker being gloomy but still capable of turning soft and gentle.
