2016 I was trying out my DSLR and getting used to it. I had been using my iPhone prior to that, as you can see in the second picture. The second picture looks weird because I used some cheap filter to try and blur out the background, the same idea as portrait mode on your phone that uses a lower f stop and digital blur to achieve a more professional look.
For some reason Steph really was drawn to this tree during our trip. She asked for some photos on it. At night she would take off her clothes and walk around nude in the private back yard.
I was asked recently what lens I would recommend to start taking portraits. This series I used a 50mm 1.8 $100 lens. I loved that lens. I recently gave that lens to someone who worked for me but would hands down still use it now from time to time.
I was also asked to describe how to start archiving or developing a work flow. The simplest way to do that is have a designated space to work... and a designated space to save your work. Get a 100$ harddrive 1TB or so, make folders of every designated shoot. Store your raw files or unedited in a sub folder then your edited gallery in a seperate sub folder. The last photo shows the shoots I did with Steph back in 2016-2017. Today I have a 30TB server with all of her work we've done. I don't delete anything of hers. Embrace the mistakes, and learn from them.
