Creativity and Barriers

Someone recently emailed from me tiktok and complimented me on my work, and asked what they should do if they have a desire to create but not sure how or where to start.

I assured him, this was a normal feeling. No creative, unless you are some sort of prodigy starts out amazing, or with the know a how to immediately be successful in a particular field.

Many people feel discouraged if they are not successful the first few times. Our brains are wired to to adapt to doing a process better each time we to that process. Some of us it takes longer than others, but what I have found is the person with the most passion for what they do usually is very successful because passions fuels them through the failures.

I am in Orlando this weekend filming, I love traveling, but my anxiety keeps me from enjoying it. It hinders me from creating. I am working for 11 different clients this weekend which had me on edge. I almost felt as if I may need to cancel and drive back to Virginia. Steph usually joins me on these trips but she was unable to attend this trip.

Once I got to Orlando, my anxiety tendency was to sit in my Airbnb and scroll social media until it was time for bed.

I put my phone away, grabbed my camera  and started walking around the city scouting out shoot locations.

I snapped this photo and immediately started feeling a little more creative.

After grabbing some dinner from a near by food truck, I went back and started editing photos of Steph. Her photos always calm me down.

The point is find your passion, then take small steps continually to help you get your stride back. It's a continuous effort.

What helps you create?
