jay‘s 5th place hurt just as much as woongki not getting 1st place in the feel special team. his voice was soo beautiful in this song, it‘s always amazing, but his adlibs here were just incredible. so happy you felt the same way 🥹

2024-03-27 15:44:52 +0000 UTCi know i'm super late here but all the bad memories flashed back when you said that you hope no one was mean to Matthew when this one came out because him and his family received death threats because of this. anti-fans created a false rumor about it that it blew up so much that his company and his sister had to speak up because of the amount of hate he was getting. people were trending things like kicking him out of the show. I swear he was my one pick during that time and I still have that trauma in me waking up everyday and a new death threat or insulting tweets/articles should be reported. It was a battlefield but I am just happy that his fans (Seokryudans) were literally walking with him through those times and we ended up making him place 3rd in the end. The saddest part is that because the hate train towards him was so huge, even as ZB1 now, a lot of the group fans don't like him and don't care about him. Luckily, Matthew really has a solid fanbase and ZB1 loves Matthew so much so it's more than enough. I just hope the world can be kinder towards him because he is the sweetest person ever.

I don't think every idol has to be perfect in everything in order to debut, not everyone can be an all rounder/ace, especially as a trainee and during a competion... since you've mentioned Taerae. for example, i think he totally deserved first place in man in love because he was a vocal centric song and he stood out, he devoured that song, he was the best one, but, for example, if he would have won in switch it wouldn't made sense to me... it depends on the specific performance, and in over me Jay was, in my opinion, the weakest overall

They were really looking for any tension to lean into. I hate that. They could have shown the conflict and resolution without dragging it out forever. It's especially ridiculous because we already knew enough about everyone involved that there was no other way it was going to play out. They were going to talk about it and be okay. Obviously.

2024-02-29 02:21:48 +0000 UTCi'm sorry, i'm saying this as a truly Jay supporter and fan, especially post BP, but him placing last for this performance way actually really fair... he's a great great vocalist, vocal-wise i personally think he was the strongest along with hoetaek, but during the show he lacked a lot of dancing skills, and in this performance he just couldn't keep up with the others... thankfully he improved A LOT after the show, we can really see how amazing he became now!! also the audience always tends to prefer performer over vocalist (which.. fair... they're idols not singers) so they will always vote the trainee who performed the strongest not sang the best

2024-02-28 22:12:17 +0000 UTCthe constant disrespect towards Jay throughout bp had me voting on a show I wasn't even watching at the time bc I was sick of seeing him sad lmao, I really think once people spread rumours about him online (that I think ended up being pretty easily disproven?) mnet decided he was too controversial to have in the group and tried to sabotage him bc the way they cut his screentime from love me right to over me is crazy but on another note, there is an ep13 which is the final members' first interview together a few days after the finale that is deffo worth watching before jumping into zb1 content!

I believe after each mission they go home/return to their companies (probably a few days-a week) until elimination happens. After eliminations, they move back in to the Boys Planet dorms and room together mostly based on upcoming performance group. Though some rooms may have overlap of two different songs. But regardless of room assignments, the guys do like to visit each other and hang out in each other's room. There's a lot of Boys Planet extra content on MNET's channel on youtube including things they do in the dorms. You should check them out when you have a chance.

2024-02-28 04:49:38 +0000 UTCThis might be controversial but if both the over me and say my name members won as a ten people group, zb1 performances would be pure perfection and able to do a bigger range than they do now in terms of concepts and they would still be missing some of the most talented performers from the show imo but it is so hard because they’re so talented like even the lowest ranks here are solid members in their respective areas so even their weakest one could do one year as trainees and all be ready to debut…..from what I know now anyway love your jacket, cam 💅

But BUILD UP is somehow an even better survival show. The performances are top TIER and there are so many familiar faces from boys planet and i-land. A lot members from groups that you already know and like so I definitely recommend you to watch It.

It's really sad jay placed last when his vocals made the song a hundred times better:(

2024-02-28 03:23:26 +0000 UTCJust want to touch on some points related to ep10, 1st Jay's hate train on stan twitter was crazy in Boysplanet days, it's related to some sort of issue with his discord that he had before the boysplanet and many people weren't happy with his old content. If I mention my personal opinion toward Jay, he was one of the members I really wanted to be in the debut lineup, bcuz I also think his vocal tone & vocals are a gift for any grp. For 2nd point the reason that no one believed over me team could win was bcuz one; say my name team had all the highest ranked trainees & two; Engard had so many K-trainees while over me had only one K-trainee who was also not a top-ranked trainee & zhang hao was the only one who was in the top #9 lineup up so their winning here was a big deal.

2024-02-28 03:07:37 +0000 UTCGod the Jay disrespect was SO DAMN HARD to sit through throughout the show. Part of the reason was because he just wasn't popular with the Korean audience. When you look at his votes and ranking throughout the show, you can see majority of his votes were from international fans. He would consistently rank high (like Top 5) internationally but with Korean votes, he was always at the bottom. But I think also at the time there were a lot of haters spreading false rumors about him on twitter so he got a lot of unwarranted hate from that. Jiwoong is great with the guys. He seems to be really good at reading the room, knows when something is bothering someone and when is a good time to step in. I think its due to his expiriance with the industry, he first debuted in 2016 and since then has been through mutliple companies and groups, dealt with a lot of hardships within those groups (not to mention the abuse and mistreatment from the companies) so he knows what to look out for. Also it was ridiculous that MNET basically dragged out Matthew and Hanbin's fight over 3 episodes. Anyways, I loved all these performances and songs. Over Me was my favorite because 4/5 members of that group were in my top 9 and I loved that song. It was my #1 most played song on spotify in 2023 with the other 4 songs rounding out my top 5.

While the show was airing he got a lot of hate for not fitting the “idol image” and Mnet made it super obvious that they didn’t want him in the group either drastically cutting his screen time, even during this performance they keep cutting away to the audience during his vocals 🙄

Jay is so talented and sweet and all rumors from people trying bring him down were so empty . He is golden ticket for any group: insane voice, young , hardworking, can speak English and Korean. Has good humor sense. But how would star creators would knew about it if they show him only when there's no other choice? With all my respect towards beautiful ballad singers. I don't want him end up like good voice only . He is good enough to be an idol , especially since it something he wanted in a first place.

2024-02-28 01:24:56 +0000 UTCyour reaction to Jay's vocals were the exact same as me. i was absolutely high on his adlibs and had so many body chills from his performance. when they announced his placement and he said he expected it due to the lack of cheering from the crowd made me hurt so much for him. the Jay disrespect (especially in this performance) is DISGUSTING. he was 100% my bp bias and i was so pissed after watching this for the first time. even rewatching with you now is making me so fucking pissed, and i'm so glad to see you agree with everything i felt here. in case you are interested in more jay content, he is currently on a vocalist show where anyone, including idols can participate (with other familiar faces like Wumuti and Hwan Hee) and i was so happy to see him getting so much praise in the first episode. it's called build up.

(just a couple months ago he had the role of “angel” in the musical Rent) edit: nowhere has he ever said that he’s gay, btw (although we/the public can tell)

2024-02-27 23:33:45 +0000 UTCin terms of jay coming last, i think it was partly the fact that he wasn’t popular in korea but also partially because apparently it was pretty difficult for the people in the audience to hear the vocals on the site, so voting was more based on the visual aspects of the performance, i.e. dancing and stage presence matching the song concept, which despite his incredible vocals i do think jay struggled with quite a bit. honestly it was just a shitty situation all around because it also led to a lot of jay fans discrediting the efforts of the other members who worked hard on the performance, like jeonghyeon with his rap verse or zhang hao and chen kuan rui who actually choreographed the dance break together.
