macOS installation info post

These are the steps for installing the full game on macOS:

If you are installing Season 3 on macOS, I recommend that you either use "The Unarchiver", "Winrar" or "Keka". Place the .zip files in your Downloads folder and ensure that you unzip them into it. After unzipping, open a terminal and type the following and press enter after the commands:

cd ~/Downloads

cd ./BeingADIK-0.11.1-macOS

If you are installing Seasons 1/2 on macOS, unzip using these instructions:

1. Put the zip file in your Downloads folder.

2. Open a terminal and go to the downloads folder using:

cd ~/Downloads

3. Type “unzip” and a space, then drag/drop the zip file into the Terminal window.

4. Press Enter and the zip file will be unzipped, storing all files on your computer.

5. Wait until it's done. Type:

cd ./BeingADIK-0.8.3-mac

Seasons 1/2 and Season 3 instructions follow after completing the above steps.

Press enter and then type:

ls

Press enter and make sure that you see the app named BeingADIK.app

6. Change the permissions of all files in the app by typing:

chmod -R +x ./BeingADIK.app/*

Make sure that you are aware of spaces in the command.

7. Ctrl-click the app and choose "Open" from the context menu. The app should bounce and install for a while. Wait until it's done.

8. You may get an error saying that the app cannot be open because it's from an unidentified developer. Click cancel.

9. Ctrl-click the app again and choose "Open". This time the game should launch.

If that still doesn't work, try these steps:

1. Try to launch the app and receive an error message. (You may or may not have to keep the error open)

2. Click System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General

3. Click the "padlock" and ensure it is in the unlocked position

4. At the bottom of the tab, to the right of an error message, there's a button that says "Open Anyway". Click it.

5. Try to open the game again and there should be an additional button along with the error message that says "Open". Click it and the game should launch.

If you are experiencing long launch times and/or music and videos are not playing, try moving BeingADIK.app to the Apps directory.

Please note! Season 1/2 and Season 3 apps are both named BeingADIK.app. It is recommended to keep them in separate folders, as not to overwrite the games.

Comments

I have had success when I decided to try Unarchiver instead of Archiver Utility. This time I tried opening and got what Dr. PinkCake described with the app icon bouncing for quite a while a couple of minutes. Eventually it stopped, and about a minute or two later I got the window saying the file was kept from opening because could not be verified (which I've encountered before on other stuff). So, I dismissed that window and right-clicked, which by the way is control click on a Mac (Mac shortcut for Command click I believe) Success! The first time after downloading the update, it always does the "cannot be verified thing," but then right clicking on the 2nd attempt works. It bounces for a long time the 2nd time, but it eventually works. I hope this helps. On a separate issue, but possibly related, my game crashes...a lot. That could be related to my old Mac or the many different saves or both.

PJ Bond

Who actually uses their Mac this way...going into terminals? Nobody I know does this. We got a Mac because we don't want to mess with this stuff.

PJ Bond

Very frustrating. Managed to get the files to unzip compressed folders but control clicking the app keeps saying file is damaged or not complete after the "ls" command in the instructions. After spending the time to research the terminal commands I notice the instructions aren't even accurate. The command lines point to folders that doesn't even exist. It's even more frustrating when the developer responds by saying to follow the instructions when the terminal command structure to folders isn't even correct. Most non advanced users don't understand terminal lingo, I certainly don't but managed to do the research and understand a little more. Downloaded atleast 6 times and still get the damage or incomplete file error. Seems to me that the files are damaged on the server. Pricing is very very steep to think about it, 300$ a year membership for one early release episode that I can't even play on my Mac is absurd. Membership being cancelled.

John Ohara

just following the instructions only the last, the .zip will extract, even after re-download and multiple tries "bad zipfile offset" and only the zip extracts.

Joe H

I cant unzip the file can someone help

Samuel Carp

I'm also having the same issues.

Jacob Cho

Is anyone having an issue with animated scenes blacked out? I'm currently in version 0.8.3, playing through episode 1 and 2

David Francisco

After entering the first command i get message no such file found

Orsmis

in order for the game to open correctly, you have to wait until the whole file is unzip. Otherwise, it won't work. I had the same issue but I realized the the files were not done as I was attempting to move on to the next step.

Marcos Martinez

is the game compatible with Sonoma 14.0?

Matthew Galyon

when I download for mac it simply says "The application 'BeingADIK' can't be opened"

Matthew Galyon

does not work

Kubasino13

does not work

Kubasino13

read your instruction. It is hard to understand. maybe capture some screenshot to learn

Chris Chow

Guys... terminal window. Right click on the folder after unzipping the file. Select 'new terminal at folder', then type step one and step two and you're good

Speed Kills

I got it to work and run perfectly, just no sound, good thing I have it on my PC

Jack Brightman

I typed it in word for word with my own user name on terminal and it just keeps saying that that doesn't exist

Stav Diamandis

i did every way and the security one but nothing seems to be working

ViciousDragon7

can someone post a video on how to do this i dont know whats going on

timmy

If anyone else has trouble, I think there is a stray period in the steps above on step 5. After cd then a space continue with /BeingADIK-0.xxx and it should work for you

Emissary Heralds

How do I transfer PC-steam Save into this Mac season3 Launcher? I have Steam on the Mac but dont see the Save (because I obviously dont have season1-2 launcher on Mac)?.. Thank you!

Ключников Валерий

Followed all these steps, followed the updated instructions, too. Nothing works. giving up. Good game, but waaaaaay too complicated to get it working for Mac. Time to cancel the Patreon membership.

lookinaround

That's good. Nothing should happen when you type in the permissions, that's how chmod works.

DrPinkCake

So everything is perfect until step 6. I did "ls" and see BeingADIK.app amongst the results and when I type in step 6 to change permissions, nothing happens when I press enter

redrockluvr

The game starts working perfectly but its suddenly crash when start playin it for a while. any help please?

hansen harkim

Followed the directions exactly, it does not work. I am able to unzip in terminal but starting with step 5 it doesn't do what you say it is supposed to do. It keeps saying: replace BeingADIK-0.9.1-mac/BeingADIK.app/Contents/MacOS/python? [y]es, [n]o, [A]ll, [N]one, [r]ename:

Network1111

I use a MAC and I'm having issues redownloading the updated version. I'm stuck in between Steps 5 and 6. For Step 5, I Typed: cd ./BeingADIK-0.9.1-mac/BeingADIK_Season3 and I only changed the middle numbers to reflect "0.9.1". Once I press enter I follow on to step 6 and I enter "ls" as instructed but after that I get an error stating "Operation not permitted". Can someone please help with this issue?

RustyLuv

Nevermind! Just restarted my Mac and it worked, I appreciate the step by step guide, was really helpful!! <3

Good Vibes

So I did all the steps but now it says the file cant be found afterwards, any tips?

Good Vibes

This: 6. Try to launch the app and receive an error message. (You may or may not have to keep the error open) 7. Click System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General 8. Click the "padlock" and ensure it is in the unlocked position 9. At the bottom of the tab, to the right of an error message, there's a button that says "Open Anyway". Click it. 10. Try to open the game again and there should be an additional button along with the error message that says "Open". Click it and the game should launch. Worked for me perfectly when I downloaded the full Seasons 1-2 aka version 0.8.3, but now that I'm trying to open the Interlude+Episode 9 = 0.9.0 it says every time "can't be opened" and the "Open anyway" button doesn't appear where it did the first time. With this season 0.9.0 version I tried that other way by typing on the terminus etc but it always said something like "couldn't find, couldn't open". This gotta be annoying and frustrating for you to have to deal with man. I gotta take some classes to learn about these terminals and commands etc lol

And

This works with all mac systems.

Does this method work with Mac OS Montery?

Caron Butler

DrPrinkcake. I've followed all terminal instructions and extracted the app. When I go to open it, it bounces in my dock like it's trying to open and then just never opens. I have adjusted to allow apps from anywhere in mac security and preferences but the application will not open. Please advise.

What do we do if it says no such files or directory in the terminal?

teramuff

Linux commands in terminal should be something people learn in highschool tbh... Thanks Dr.PinkCake for the mac support, really appreciated !

I have been trying to open this application for hours. I do not understand the terminal commands we have to do. Help please.

everything looked like it should but the some of the files weren't unzipped to the correct filetype.... so when I go to open then BeingADIK,app file it says its unable to open the app.

BrainDed

Did you download the correct version? Do you get an actual BeingADIK.app file after extracting? If not, you downloaded PC/Lin version.

i tried doing exactly what JoyBoy described with a several times with a few differences eachtime, but i still get an error saying the app cant be opened

Sean B

I deleted the files as you suggested and repeated the process, now after I paste chmod -R +x ./BeingADIK.app/* I got a "the file can't be found" error. You've done a great job with this game, but if it's this hard to update on Mac, I should probably just wait for it on Steam.

lookinaround

ok, thanks! will try that. i guess I was afraid if I deleted the previous version of Being a DIK, that I would lose my saves.

lookinaround

"BeingADIK\ copy.app" This doesn't look right. After you unzip, you should end up with "BeingADIK.app". Make sure you don't have extra files. I would delete and extract again.

DrPinkCake

I downloaded and unzipped fine, and followed the instructions for both options above, but still get the same "You do not have permission to open the application “BeingADIK” error. Not sure what else to do. MacBook-Pro-2:~ username$ chmod -R +x >/Users/username/Downloads/BeingADIK\ copy.app -bash: /Users/username/Downloads/BeingADIK copy.app: Is a directory

lookinaround

So I downloaded the new version of Being a DIK from the Patreon Page for Mac (MacOS Monterey 12.0.1) but when trying to unzip it using Unarchiver, I get error messages reading the following: "Could not extract "BeingADIK.app/contents/Resources/autorun/game/movies_ep5.rp" from the "BeingADIK-0.8.1-macOS.zip" archive: Failed to write file" (This error message also appears for several other files like movies_ep5.rp, etc.) I have enough space to properly extract, but I'm still having no luck. I don't have any coding experience, so I don't know how to use terminal. If anyone has any experience or tips to extract the file properly, please let me know! I have downloaded and re-downloaded the zip file multiple times now and I'm desperate lol.

Kevin Gesell

Hey there! I think my problems are coming from the unzipping of the zip file - I'm currently getting a lot of 'failed to write file' error messages

Kevin Gesell

Hi! Can you tell me what step is causing errors? For faster help, join my discord server.

DrPinkCake

Hi! I've not had any problems downloading the app and followed every step you mentioned in the beginning. But after all those steps it still won't launch, the icon shows in the bottom but nothing happens. What can I do?

Isak Garpdal

Are you using the unzip command from the terminal? If it still throws errors, the download is corrupt.

DrPinkCake

having issues with the MAC install - downloaded the ZIP file from all locations (no screensaver issues) and everytime I am noting when I Unzip the package I get issues with ep6 and ep7.rpa files ep6_images.rpa bad CRC 00745d10 (should be 099e02ce) movies_ep7.rpa bad CRC ff3db860 (should be 34ce75ed)

dave

I can't drag the app into terminal. What am I doing wrong?

Seth

Read what JoyBoy did 2 comments up. If you still get an error, your download may be corrupted and needs to be re-downloaded.

DrPinkCake

Read the instructions from JoyBoy, 1 comment above you. That's the easiest way to get it running.

DrPinkCake

Thanks for the update, really expecting to play it! However, I hit an issue with the launch: I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. I'm not very computer savvy. I downloaded the mac zip file a half dozen times from DropMe and Mediafile. It downloads fine, but every time when unzipping, it crashes halfway through. So I erase the old zip file and start over. I did this about a half dozen times. Only unzips about 8 GB of the game. Is there an easy solution to what is happening? I am downloading full 19+GB zip files from the servers, but the unzip always crashes at this 8 GB mark. It just says "Winzip quit unexpectedly." Thanks.

Seth

I'm not very mac literate this is what I did: Opened zip, >opened terminal, dragged the being a dik app to terminal, >clicked enter >then pasted chmod -R +x >clicked enter>right-clicked the Being a Dik app and chose Open> took a few minutes to load(Beach ball) and now I am seeing it says 8.0

JoyBoy

Can anyone pls help me with a video.. I just started using a Mac and I don’t know what to do…pls help

Ashley Massey

Hi - I've been periodically trying the above steps since november of last year and no luck. Game was running fine on the same computer until that update. I've maintained by membership but if I can't get the game to run seems pointless. Any chance anyone can help please. Thanks.

d bhatt

Hello, the author. I've come across a very serious problem. When I was playing the seventh chapter, Maya was caught by her father. When I talked with Josy, she said so... Where do l go, the game would disappear. Do you know how to solve this problem?

lsabella,yyds

What does it say when you do the chmod command? Does it give you an error message or exit without any message (this is normal).

DrPinkCake

Everything up until the chmod part works, but then when I try to open it, it always crashes and says application not responding.

Shane Tuiviasa

Hi! Did you extract the game without any errors? To me, this looks like a botched download and I would recommend downloading the full game again.

Patching wasn't successful. You didn't overwrite some files, check so that it didn't create copies of the files you tried to replace. The fact that the presplash image showed, tells me that the new files where added properly, but the duplicates weren't. Try to patch it again.

DrPinkCake

Hi Doc! Stoked to play the new Ep, thanks again. Catalina user here. I downloaded the patch, unzipped it, and descended down to the 'game' folder within the patch folder. I then opened up another tab in my finder, to the BeingADIK app, and descended down there, similarly, to the 'game' folder. I copied and pasted the entirety of the 'game' folder contents from the patch folder to the 'game' folder of the existing 6.1 version, and hit 'Replace' whenever prompted. When I open the game, it shows the new presplash page for a bit (although it doesn't autofit quite properly to my screen resolution, so I can't see all of the 'Loading...' text, for example), I get the spinning beach ball for a bit, then an error message of a non-responsive app for a second (which looks like it auto closes BAD, without my pressing anything). But then the game starts (no Dr. PinkCake splash page), but still as ver 6.1. In playing through a bit, it doesn't look like the update/patch took. Any suggestions? Thanks!

KrazyCooter52

Hi! Yes, there are instructions within the zipped patch. From what I've seen, the easiest way is to descend into the patch directories and copy-paste the content to your base game, as merging apps have mixed results on macOS. But that's what patching is in a nutshell. You copy .rpa files and more from one folder to another. You shouldn't have to set new permissions for the patch either as it's no executable file you're patching.

DrPinkCake

Hi doc, thanks for the brilliant game! It has been my life saver. I’m wondering if there’s any instructions for how to patch ep7 on Mac? Thank you in advance.

Benjamin bai

I saw that it helped you to look in the bug-reports room. That's great. If anyone else is having a similar issue, join the discord server for an example where I've helped users with this. Search for "shamtherock" in bug-reports room, and you'll get an example with similar issues.

DrPinkCake

I unzipped the file on my desktop and moved BeingADIK out of the file and did every instruction I could find many times over. I have moved the app into terminal and did the commands yet it still says The file /Users/myname/Desktop/BeingADIK.app/BeingADIK does not exist. When I do not drag the app into terminal and I follow the steps it still says "no such file or directory". Please help, I have put in around 6 hours trying to get this to work.

Jordan

It would help if you could say which step you get stuck on and describe your problem. The guide, as written, is correct. Following it precisely will make the game run on your macOS. If you need further assistance, join my discord server to see how I've helped others before you. Search for "mac" in the bug-report room for many examples.

DrPinkCake

I REALLY wanted to play this game after being obsessed with the demo. Now I am stuck being unable to play a game I paid for on BigSur11.2. Please help!

Jordan

Step1 : If you don't know how to use the terminal to do basic "ls" and "cd". Just look it up on YouTube. Like what drpinkcake said, its no rocket science. how to open terminal on Mac : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw7Nd67_aFw how to use ls and cd : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPeC-GacLNA&t=1s Step2: follow the instruction that was posted. If you can't get it to work. Let them know what methods you have try and what the error messages you are getting. No-one can help you if all you just say is "Not Working" I hope this helps

tinyrock12

could you post a link to the video help page please I don't have a clue what's going on I don't even know how to open terminal don't know what that is iv payed to play this game and been trying to open it on my Mac for about 4 hours please help

letsgetitt

Sounds like you're not in the directory containing the game. Make sure that you do step 1 properly.

DrPinkCake

I'm getting an error that says "The file can't be found" when I try to open the application after following all of the above steps. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

nothing is working :/

Bob

yup i actually waited a few hours after the chmod in terminal and it fired up after i went through the padlock process

Jdog

Confirmed to be working on macOS Big Sur

DrPinkCake

it’s unzipped correct?

Glenn

Hey everyone! I've read all the comments, placed the app on my desktop and entered the commands into the terminal, but when I type "ls", it still won't show the app. Anyone have this happen to them?? I'm positive I'm doing everything correctly according to the instructions.

D C

yeah this worked for me also so get beingADIK app onto desk top then follow glenn instructions do not use " " on end of commands though just for us morons

Omajack

Check Glenn's comment above. If you want visual aid, there's a conversation in the bug-report room on my discord server where I helped a user get his game started. If you join, you could see the exchange with a few pictures.

DrPinkCake

Tried everything, can't get it to work.

Patrick LaPorte

This worked for me ty!!

S L

Personally I just opened it and dragged the app into the desktop. Then open terminal "cd Desktop" then "ls" then put in the "chmod -R +x ./BeingADIK.app/". worked for me

Glenn

Because Apple decided that apps have to be signed and developed on macOS. They don't trust cross-compiled apps and make it harder both for developers and users. It's not me who made these changes. These changes, made by Apple, even stopped my game from launching on Steam because of this unsigned issue. The steps are simple, take it one step at a time. If you own a mac, you really should be able to use the terminal window, it's a UNIX based machine.

DrPinkCake

Isn't their a simpler way to do this because I tried all the steps and even read what you said in the comments but I don't know how to make this thing work I am not very good with computers. Like why can't their be a direct link to the game?

Ddog10

You need to change the directory to the folder where your app is. If you put the app on your desktop you type: cd /Users/YOUR USER NAME/Desktop If you then type: ls You should see either the app or the folder. If you see the app, do step 2. If you see the folder do: cd ./BeingADIK-v0.6.0-macOS Then step 2. Make sure you unzipped the game first.

DrPinkCake

I get a no such file or directory error. I've tried it a ton of different ways

S L

If you don't have permission you need to be administrator and do the sudo command. sudo chmod -R +x ./BeingADIK.app/*

DrPinkCake

Great!

DrPinkCake

tried all steps, still getting message saying I don't have permission. Problem with Sur update? I don't even get option of open anyway in security and privacy. When I open the get info page, it says I have read and write access.

tommy wrongway

This worked for me! Thank you very much!

Highlander2020

First, check where you put the game. To make it easy, put it on the desktop and unzip it there. Then type cd /Users/YOUR USER NAME/Desktop/BeingADIK-v0.6.1-macOS Now you can continue from step 2.

DrPinkCake

I’m new to using terminal so I do the cd and then the BeingADik app but it immediately says no such file or directory. But I don’t know how to find the right directory. When I try step 2 nothing happens

Where did it go wrong?, take a screenshot or just use your phone and snap a clear photo and post it here so DPC can see and double-check

Yeahhhhh I tried following the instructions but it still wont open. I'm not as technologically advanced as some lol

you can also drag and drop the file from Finder into Terminal and it will put the correct location into the "where the fuck are you" command address
