Get a physical copy of Book 1 NOW!
Added 2023-02-28 23:43:34 +0000 UTCHoly shit, what a weird, wild week it has been. So, there won't be a story post today, and for that I'm sorry, but I am pleased to announce that the physical edition of Quaranteam: Book One is now available on Amazon, in print format or as a Kindle book!
It clocks in at a whopping 753 pages, because not only does it include all of Quaranteam: Book One, but it also includes the Cast of Characters, all of Quaranteam: Piper's Prelude, a foreword/afterword from me and the first chapter of Quaranteam: Book Two, which won't appear on public sites for at least a few months. According to Amazon, the thing weighs nearly three pounds. It's a monster.
For those of you who aren't Patrons, you should also know that this version includes a ton of revisions, updates, tweaks and improvements to many of the chapters, especially the first 20 or so, as I went back and hammered a real timeline onto everything. All the chapters now have dates marking where they start, and a number of inconsistencies and irregularities have been ironed out. All said and done, I think it turned out to be about 10-20k worth of words that were revised, added, removed or altered, so we're talking sizable chunks. There are no plans to go back and update all the existing publicly available versions of these chapters, and the print version will stand as the Final Cut.
I ordered the first copy a couple of hours ago and will have it in my grubby hands this Friday. (There's a typo in the foreword, I just saw in glancing through my Kindle copy, but fuck it, I'm just gonna let it be, I think.)
For those interested in getting autographed copies (UPDATE 2: We're going to try this Shopify thing for the time being.)
It's been months and months working on this, and one final special thanks to people who are also thanked in the full book - patient1, RickShaw and Breakthebar, all of whom have done an immense amount of work in helping me get everything worked out and pushed together. BTB especially helped by drafting up a master timeline using every date I'd used in everything QT I'd published, which led to edits in the main QT, in Phil's Tale, in Piper's Prelude and prevented me from needing to make any major changes to McCallister's Madness.
All of this is a million miles away from where I was when I started writing the first chapter of Quaranteam back in late April of 2020, when I was going out of my mind, having been confined to the condo for nearly two months, not even knowing how much stranger things were going to get. Thank you all for making this possible. I'm having a blast. I hope you are too... If you'd like to have a physical copy, or an official copy in your Kindle, consider picking one up, either from my Etsy shop or through Amazon. Give copies to friends, pick up a copy for your local library or have one on your bookshelf at home for when the inevitably apocalypse comes and there's no power left.
Cheers everyone!

2023-03-05 12:19:57 +0000 UTCSure, I understand there are a number of advantages to the Amazon way. Options are not great for a newly published author (without the market clout of a Brandon Sanderson or the name recognition to go the way of Cory Doctrow). I know FortySixtyFour ended up regretting the attempt to avoid the exclusivity clauses.

2023-03-04 04:01:47 +0000 UTCIt's what I'm doing for this book. Their small/self-publishing tools (which they acquired from another company called CreateSpace) are very powerful and allow people like me who aren't large enough to secure publisher deals to still have physical copies of their work out without having unreasonable expectations in terms of upfront costs. When I was looking into self-publishing about 20 years ago, you needed to buy a few hundred copies of your own book in the initial print run, and then hope to accrue enough sales to make your money back. Print-on-demand is so much easier and allows more agile print development.

2023-03-02 21:52:38 +0000 UTCOrdered a signed copy. Looks like you went the Amazon exclusive way (based on seeing Kindle Unlimited). Totally makes financial sense in today's market, but really don't like the anti-competitive nature of the contract.

2023-03-02 20:52:39 +0000 UTCI only did paperback. I looked into the cost of doing hardbacks, but the added cost was quite sizable. And if the first wave sells out before I even ship them, I'll order a second batch immediately.

2023-03-02 09:04:34 +0000 UTCI know that I will want a signed copy, but will have to wait about a week or two before I can order it. Are they hardback or paperback?

2023-03-02 01:51:16 +0000 UTCFirst batch I ordered was 20 copies. If more people than that want signed copies, I'll order a second batch.

2023-02-28 23:57:00 +0000 UTCI would love to order a physical, autographed copy...but it will have to wait, as my first day of my new job is tomorrow, and payday is a few weeks from that. But I will definitely get there...if only to say "Hey here's proof I knew him when he was just starting out!"
