Boys Planet: EP.9 | REACTION

We are almost finished already! This was the most emotional episode so far.
But I loved it. I can't wait to see the next performances!

Boys Planet: EP.9 | REACTION

Comments

I saw through it immediately! I hate MNET for always doing this shady shit and causing the idols to go through real trauma.

Sir Austin

I'm so late. This drama was so stretched and will I ever forgive mnet for doing this? hell no. This moment became the chance of people to bring down matthew by creating false rumors about him. He and his family received d**th threats. He became public enemy number 1. I swear being a matthew stan during this era is so traumatic. They were trending tag to take matthew out of the competition. It was extremely bad that his sister and his company had to speak up and even MNH (a known not good company) had to resort to legal actions. And i know he's much more accepted now in the fandom but I must say he still is being one of the punching bag even up to this date. The hate lessened but it didn't disappear. There are still a lot of ZB1 fans who do not acknowledge him as a member and even hates on him for interacting with their biases. Matthew had to prove and prove and prove himself that he deserves to be in the group. It's really painful to see. But i am always grateful to all ZB1 members because the really surround matthew with so much love and affection and that's what counts to me. Matthew is such a lovely person. He sees the world with so much love. I hope people can be kinder to him now.

Keep forgetting to add about Seowon. He is a member of the group Nine.i and has been prior to appearing on Boys Planet along with Jang Jiho and Winnie (though Winnie has since left the group). The group did run in to some issues earlier in the year with 8/9 remaining members filing a lawsuit against their company but a few months ago it was said that their issues with the company has been resolved and they've resumed activities. But recently I think earlier this month, the company announced that the group was going to take a hiatus so Idk what their future is like. But Seowon is pretty active on instagram @wishyourseowon

Secretninja312

Finally finished! The drama really was not that bad. It was just poor communication that escalated a bit because of the added layer of Hanbin and Matthew being long time best friends. Matthew was always willing to give up parts. Remember when he gave Jiwoong the killing part before even if he was the best english speaker of the group. I definitely feel like he felt hurt and felt the they (Hanbin his bestfriend and Jiwoong a hyung he has grown fond of in the show) did not believe in him. At the same time he knows that Hanbin and Jiwoong are not doing it to hurt him but just wants what is best for the team. If you check out Matthew's commentary he was smiling and laughing. The only time that Matthew teared up was when he mentioned his mom. Speaking of, Matthew's mom can speak Korean. It's Matthew who can't speak Korean well. I did not realize the extent of this until ZB1 debuted and Matthew's korean is often called out. It almost feels like Hao's korean is better than Matthew at times. This is an added layer of stress for him to suddenly change parts 4 hours before presenting to the mentors. ALSO in terms of how Matthew views this experience. He looks back fondly of the Say My Name team and he even said it was his favorite performance in the whole show. This drama was just within a span of a few hours so the rest of the week of the rehearsals we're just them working hard and having a great time. It's the online hate that made the experience bad. So many people were bad mouthing Matthew during this time. I felt like people found an opening to bring him down since he was a really popular contestant and fans have different agendas so they really dog piled on him. It's sad cause you can feel in the next elimination that he's aware of how people are bashing him. :((( Matthew really looks up to Jiwoong and Hanbin. He has said multiple times especially after debut that he relies on them the most in ZB1. I feel like this just made their bond even stronger. BUT ofcourse during that time people were saying Hanbin and Matthew's friendship was over because they had their own agendas. It was so stressful. Even when ZB1 debuted it felt like Matthew had to prove himself to the fanbase but I'm so glad the fandom has grown to love Matthew so much now and even other fandoms are fond of Matthew. I feel like the biggest thing that helped was because how the rest of the members love Matthew so much so the fans learned to love him as well. I'm so glad we are way past this era of Matthew hate. This will definitely be dragged out again in the next episode and I'll hold back on commenting about what will happen next. Super excited for your next reaction! Sorry this was so long, As a Matthew biased ZeRose I had a LOT of emotions about this arc lol

Chan Chowder

It’s okay! It was a nice surprise 🤣

Chan Chowder

I'm sorry. For some reason people weren't notified for this one. 😭

Sir Austin

Omg didn’t know there was an upload 😭 excited to watch!

Chan Chowder

I saw you struggle with all this Matthew drama, and I just want to calm you down by telling you something. Few months ago, YouTuber Jeff Avenue invited Matthew's big sister to his channel for an interview (btw she is the most amazing person, she has a tiktok channel with many followers, and you two should be friends). She talked there about Matthew and about Boys Planet and she said this episode with Matthew crying was so much more dramatic because of the editing than it really was in real life, so don’t worry. :) She also said that Hanbin was, is and will always be a very important person for her family for all the emotional support he gave Matthew in their trainee days. About the incident that happened, I will tell a bit from my experience. For all my life many times I was promoted at work from being an employee to be the manager, the "boss". It is always harder to become the boss of someone that is your friend\bestie (like Hanbin with Matthew) because suddenly instead of always taking your best friend's side you need to focus on what's good for the business\the task\ the whole team, and it is also very weird for your friend that suddenly instead of cheering them for everything, you're telling them what to do, what's wrong and right. These types of incidents are very normal, it happens 99% of the times that the other person kinda feels a bit hurt, but it HAS to happened in order to shift positions from friends to a "leader" and his "team member", and its totally fine. So when I saw what happened between them from the start I totally got it and I didn’t took it dramatically like many other viewers who watched and automatically took sides and got angry with Matthew\Hanbin. They were both in a complicated situation and it wasn't easy for any of them – it was more than the singing part in the song, it was about Hanbin needed to break the friend status by being strict and cold (sometimes you don't have a choice, sometimes the hard way is the best way), and Matthew getting used to the new status. It is always better to check positions and abilities from the start (like doing auditions) but it's also really ok to change positions later (after seeing each person's advantages and disadvantages) to fit things more to what's best for the team (and best for the member himself actually). It is also ok for Matthew to want this part, but it's best for him to take a part that fits him more because it will light him and the team much better. I mean I can be awesome, and I can take the best part in the song, but no matter how good I am, if it doesn't fit me and my abilities than it will make me look like I'm not good at all, and it's not true. Sometimes it hurts to acknowledge that what you want isn't the best thing for you, but thats life and at the end where you shine the best is where you feel the best. :)

LISA SA

En garde performance was my favorite in this program and definitely in my top 3 in the produceplanet series like it actually makes me so SAD that i wont see it again bc it was soooo good

Lloysi Garcia

Yes they only invited family that was already in Korea hence why some got either a friend or a coach/teacher)/trainer or some other person

B2023316

I thought one of my favorite moments was in this episode but it's next time and I cannot wait to see it with you and see if you notice it 😁 There's some joy coming up!

Evan Murray

It gets stuck for me and the weird rhythm of it does not help 😂

Evan Murray

Onepact <3 I'm glad you got to discover all the trainees!

Carolina G

We also have to understand a few things about Matthew. He had been practicing that part for a week, and they decided to change it right before the evaluation with the masters. I definitely think Mnet blew it out of proportion. But I also completely understand Hanbin and Jiwoong—it was just a difficult situation. I love Seungeonie; he seems like the sweetest person. I also understand someone feeling bad in this type of situations, all the pressure, being tired, receiving hate, competing with others, I think I wouldn't last a week in that type of environment. It really isn't easy. (Hate online during the show was crazzzyy) From what I've read, Matthew didn't have any family members with him at the presentation for the families. I think his uncle mentioned they would have gone if they had been informed. On a random note, when Kamden said he wanted to perform with Jay again before he dies—Jay and Kamden actually got to perform together again after the show. They did a couple of fan meetings and performed "Rush Hour" again. Love KamJay <3

Ah i only started to get into ZB1 this year around March. Ik about Boys planet and hear about Zb1 but didnt want to get into them cuz they are temporary group and getting attached : ( (which i always get when i dive into a new group)+ i already have my fav groups and others i stan casual and its hard to follow everyone(its a bit overwhelming at times being a multi, life would be easier if i liked only 1 group haha) and didnt want to add a new group. But i coudnt resist look into them in the end. Ended loving them. Boys planet had soo many gem trainees and im happy a lot of them got into groups and debut tho i dont follow any of them except ZB1 and Onepact(only music wise). Sorry for the long reply back!

Anja

En Garde was my most listened song from last year lol

Carolina G

I remember watching all those clips when it was airing and Mnet would promote the episodes with those bits, it was sad...

Carolina G

1:24:35 This is random but I love how boujee Hui's parents look.

Connor

As I posted before under previous episodes. So many of them have debuted in several groups.

B2023316

Ok. On to the performances: Supercharger: Man! These guys went through a lot. They were basically the leftovers put together. I think Zihao was the only one to actually pick SuperCharger over Switch. They only had like 3 days to learn it. Performance wise, I think they did great. But as a song, I think its because it's unconventional that it took time to grow on me. I feel like a group like NCT127 would release this type of song. It was my lease favorite of the songs from this round of competition. Also, on each person's fancam of this round's performance on youtube, they posted a message. On Haruto's he called Zihao his husband, Woongki and Seowon the "Unnies" and Ollie and Takuto the "Babies" Engarde: ok the camera work does NOT do this performance justice. The choreography is so good. This was also the performance where I think I finally noticed Gyuvin. Up until this point, I didn't really see the hype behind him and why he was so popular. But he was amazing here. Truthfully, he didn't win me over until the finale but I'm so glad he's part of the group now. And yes, all the songs are officially released and my year end top 5 most played songs of 2023 was the 5 songs from this round. Can't wait for you to see the next episode and the rest of the performances!

Secretninja312

LOL ok, I kinda do see the Mingyu/San resemblance in Park Hanbin now that you mention it. And I did think you were talking about Red House Mingyu before you specified Seventeen's Mingyu. And yes, both Red House and Blue House were eliminated the previous round. They're both pursuing acting now. I'm also not a fan of these "Hidden Camera" pranks because they do often put people in awkward/uncomfortable situations and you never know how they'd react. I feel like whenever they do it on a show like this, it becomes one more thing for viewer to use and rip apart trainees who don't act in a favorable way. I can only imagine what would've been said about Gunwook if he had been upset or angry about losing that center position. I remember in PD101 they did a prank where they made it seem like the trainees knocked over and broke a camera and it cause a lot of girls to panic and cry thinking they broke an expensive camera and would have to pay for it. Also on Mixnine, they did a prank where they had trainees do like a livestream, told them to keep going no matter what happens, then had a staff pass out and see if the trainee stops to help or keep going like they were told to. Those were just way out of hand and just added more stress to the trainees who were already in a stressful environment. Unfortunately, not everyone had family show up for their "fan meet/ concert" some did have friends or company representative come instead. Onewe's Dongmyeong was there likely in support of Hiroto who is also under RBW Entertainment. I remember seeing a post somewhere that Matthew's uncle said Matthew's mother never got an invite to come and that if she had, she would've made sure to find a way to get to korea for it. So it seems like MNET didn't reach out to everyone's family, especially the foreign trainees. Sidenote: Wumuti got way more screen time this episode, after he was eliminated than he did the entire series. Yujin's mom became such a hot topic after this episode because yes, she's gorgeous. Also looks very young, which reminds everyone how young Yujin actually is. It's wild that him and Takuto are the same age because Yujin definitely "looks" older. Also, Ollie is a year older than both Yujin and Takuto.

Secretninja312

If you're still wondering who in zb1 is a shawol, the biggest one is definitely Yujin in my opinion lol

Oh yes I agree it's complicated ! And I agree with you (100%) about the introverted trainees not making the cut despite their talent because of that. I just wanted to add the nuance about the individual competition, because as I said it's just has been a pretty big discussion in k-pop spaces recently and your comment made think of that. About Matthew who wanted the part for his mother. I get that it's cute, and the sentimental value for him but it shouldn't become the problem of the whole team... ^^' So like I said like you, I understand perfectly Matthew and his feelings, he's just human (and in a very very stressfull situation at that time) so it's normal that he's being upset. And what I meant with my first comment is like the difference for me is in how they come back from being upset and how long it takes them (like if the trainee is hurting the team by not putting much effort for days because of something like this I'm not going to have a very good image of them... something that I have seen in other surival shows) And yes, also agree with you about Ji-Woong handling the situation well. ^^ I'm sorry if I didn't express myself correctly, english is not my first language so I struggle a little to express exactly what I want often 😭

Lexy S

Yeah I am def getting more attached to some of the non ZB1 trainees here like Seo Won, Woong & Keita

Sir Austin

I feel like every elimination gets harder to sit through and go through because the we learn more of these guys as the show goes on and I'm sure a lot of them have grown closer and gotten to know each other better hence why this elimination was sadder than the previous. With the whole reshuffling of the groups after elimination, this is something that MNET has always done with this round of competition where they get original songs, start practicing, then elimination happens and there's groups who have to get more members and groups who have to kick members out. My guess is, it's obviously a way for MNET to create drama but it could also be like a way to force them in to a corner where they have to adapt to changes in a short amount of time, like how idol groups would sometimes have to change up formations and cover lines due to a member being absent. Still, it obviously adds a lot of stress to the trainees who are kicked out of their original songs and trainees who've had majority of their group eliminated.

Secretninja312

Its complicated. Because they each have to stand out individually as well as work well within a group. A lot of times super talented but more introverted idols don't make the cut because they are too nice and not fighting for their spots. That's all I meant by that comment. You have to both be good in a group but also try to put yourself on there as much as possible. In this specific case Matthew is already super popular and high up. So not having this part would not effect him as much. But his comments about wanting his Mom to be able to enjoy it made me 😭 I actually think Jiwoong did a decent job in handling the situation and I'm glad they gave him space to be upset on his own for a little bit. I just hope they don't drag it out more in the next episode. I love all of them and hate seeing them uncomfortable or upset.

Sir Austin

Mnet did their Mnet bs with the Matthew drama as usual. This clearly didn't needed 3 episodes of dragging it like everyone else already said it x) The only thing I want to add is about the "individual competition" especially because it was also in the middle of another drama from another survival show recently. I never understood this point of view, tbh. Like yes it's an individual competition but the end goal is to be part of a group. So yes singing/dancing/rapping skills are important, but attitude and in particular teamwork is as important to decide the winners, at least for me. This is not an individual competition of who is the best singer like The Voice, we're creating a group here. I'm not mad at someone being upset they lost the part they wanted, they are human, but I need them to get over it at some point, and pretty fast (you never have much time in kpop even outside of survival shows...). Because that kind of things will happen everyday as an idol in a group.

Lexy S

I'm so glad nobody gave up on him and that he made it in the end, the group wouldn't be the same without him 🥲

el

Exactly, even jiwoong and hanbin were concerned that it was too late to switch because they'd already been learning those lines for a bit. It would be way different if they were switched very quickly!

el

This episode came faster then i thought!! Ah yes it was roller coaster of emotions. Aw Matthew and the editing : ( i saw a few of this shows already(produce x 101, produce 101, Road to kingdom, Kingdom, Queendom...) and im aware of the evil editing but it still suprise me at times. How they like create drama. Its ridiculous and hurtful to the trainees, members of groups. I still listen to En garde on Spotify to this day. Its my fav song from this misson. The song is soo good. Super charger team was proud of them, they pullled it off. I am same about time and being everywhere early. Rather waiting 1h then being late. Thank you for this episode, excited for the next one!

Anja

I remember Matthew fans were fighting for our lives starting from last episode. Mnet blew the whole situation out of proportion and people were grasping at anything to hate on. People online said some really horrible things about him and I remember the hate got so bad at one point that his company had to make an official statement in regards to the slander. Mnet also had to make a statement because they were being accused of rigging Matthew’s view count/rank. People didn't want to believe that he was actually popular To kinda answer your question if this whole thing is a sore spot for him today, he obviously has no bad blood with the people involved, but his sister answered in a live that he was aware of the stuff that was being said about him and that caused a huge hit to his confidence and mental health. I think he can laugh off the situation itself but I can’t imagine he thinks very fondly of the aftermath that came from it after the episode aired

Alli

They decided to switch the parts like a whole day after they decided to give it to Matthew which hurt and confused him even more. Mnet and their evil editing make it seem like they switched it right after they gave it to him.

Yaska

dongmyung from onewe was there to support hiroto who is from the same agency! a couple of people had their labelmates/friends/instructors in the audience if their family members couldn't come.

CB

the guy in the audience that you said looks like seungkwan is ji yunseo. he's in evnne now and he's actually the cousin of nayeon from twice lol which he never brought up on the show so everyone was kind of shocked to figure it out.

CB

People jump on any crumbs of controversy or drama in these shows to drag down successful trainees that are threats to their favorites. Most people were sane and saw both sides, its just the loud minority were trying to convince everyone that Matthew was the worst person ever just based on that. And then if you looked at their profile, they were usually rooting for someone in a similar competitive position to Matthew, i.e, someone who would rise if Matthew's rank fell. It's unfortunate, but thats where a lot of that type of hate comes from.

feli

One cool thing they did was they had a livestream from each practice room one day. Now it was only video no audio and it disappeared after 24 hours.

B2023316

Ahhh I didn't expect an episode and didn't see a notif, but yay!!! I'm excited to watch, thank you ❤️

el

That makes sense too. And I'm sure all of the trainees talked about the hidden camera prank with each other 😭 like I said in my reaction I understand all sides of the situation and dont think mnet needed to make it such a big deal.

Sir Austin

oh i am soooo sure the prank with gunwook happened a day before the matthew thing and that's why he thought they were pranking him. bc the gunwook thing seems like it happened on the same day that they reorganized parts, and we know matthew got switched a day after, mnet was so evil for the order they showed these in, i feel like it makes matthew seem more immature about it when in reality he probably heard of the same thing happening to gunwook the day before and reasonably thought they were pranking him, the say my name team literally were pranking each other the moment they entered the room to join the team

Sulky Ghost

Super. Charger. Super. Super charger. Its stuck in my head 😅

Sir Austin

didn't expected a episode today!! thanks ☺️
