I am ready to learn more about ZB1 and all of the contestants.
This 1st episode was so good!
Since these episodes are so long I will probably only be able to watch 1 episode per week and will be doing them on Sundays since I never work Sundays.
I loved this and can't wait for the next episode.

2024-10-11 09:48:40 +0000 UTCFun fact: Yuehua G-group practiced a different song, but at the last week they changed it and gave the same song that K-group already started practicing and gave them too many colourful dresses too (said by Ollie), so Mnet basically wanted K-group to come off as more talented and cool-looking. So from the very start, it was an unfair fight against Global Group. Also, it's an obvious fact that G-group trainees have to struggle more with language barriers, yet MNET gave them less time to practice as the group that failed the confidence test, which is very unfair, but we already know it from the MNET survival show history, and that's why we call it zhang hao took the revenge for the unfairness and mistreatment all the MNET survival shows' foreign trainees had to endure.

2024-07-11 00:18:47 +0000 UTCSo while the show is mostly geared towards trainees who are training to be idols, these types of survival shows have always brought in a handful of "outliers" like actors, models, already debuted idols, etc. I think its a way to bring something different in to the mix. In the case of idols currently in an active group, this show had quite a few, aside from Pentagon's Hui, there was also Up10tion's Hwanhee and Dongyeol, Ciipher's Keita and TAG (though he pulled out of the show before it aired), Nine.i's Seowon, Winnie, Jiho. If any of these idols make the final group, they'll be pulled from their original group for the duration of this group's contract (2 1/2 years). Btw, groups from these types of survival shows have shorter contract periods. An example of this would be Hwang Minhyun (The guy that was introducing the show in the beginning). He is part of the group Nu'est at the time him and 3 other members went to compete on Produce 101 S2, he ended up making it in to Wanna One the group that came out of the show. So for 1 1/2 years (Wanna One's contract period), he promoted exclusively with Wanna One and didn't participate in any of Nu'est promotions. After Wanna One disbanded, he returned to Nu'est and continued promoting with them until they disbanded.

Just be prepared to fall in love with not just ZB1 members but like 50 other guys along with them. Some of the groups that have debuted with multiple Boys Planet guys include: EVNNE, One Pact, TIOT, TOZ, Ampers&One Just a sidenote: The whole K-Group vs G-Group is so unnecessary and totally MNET's way of trying to stir up drama. They really tried to push this rivalry between Koreans and Foreginers when in reality, a lot of the guys are friends with each other and many had trained together. But don't worry, the whole K vs G concept does go away after the first elimination.

The guy with the blue hair is Park Hanbin, another phenomenal dancer & perfectionist. We call him Phanbin. Speaking of colors, what did you think of the Red & Blue Houses? (that's also a big storyline/meme.) They are actors/models with no training at all in singing or dancing.

Trust me, after few episodes you won't be able to stop in one episode. The tension is KILLING. When boys planet only released, my whole life were thinking-breathing boys planet all week, watching the moment the episode released than again thinking-breathing only boys planet (and voting as well haha). It was horrible I just couldnt live my life because how stressful it was. I can really divide my life for two parts: before boys planet and after boys planet. Also because SO MANY NEW GROUPS debuted from boys planet.

Of course it can be unfair when someone famous starts with non famous , it depends on their popularity and how well the fans accept their participation. I think for idols or former idols should be a seperate show where they build a group. It would be a good chance to promote their group (if it exists) and be a second chance for members of disbanded goups.

Like other people have said in the comments there is some evil editing but overall the vibe is pretty good, because of the contestants. Majority of them are really fun and wholesome and they were all very supportive of each other, a lot of friendships were born on this show ^^ And the talent is there, especially after the first elimination almost all the performances are amazing, so I think you're going to enjoy watching it a lot ! Also, yes it was Dionysus from BTS (and it was their iconic performance from MMA 2019) that you saw Hanbin in. ^^ And I completely agree with you, I never understood why Hanbin didn't get 4 stars. And I think it's possible that it was the producers of the show that said to put him in 3 stars to be with Matthew and to create that arc of "the two friends that don't start at the top but work their way up together" as you could see they were pushing the Matthew/Hanbin friendship very strongly in the first episodes so... because there is no other reasons to not give him the 4 stars, his tsage was just one of the best auditions vocal wise and probably the best dancing wise so... The charisma excuse doesn't work when he was really expressive and clearly enjoying himself during his audition x) Anyways, sorry for the long comment, I'm going to stop here, but thank you for taking the time to watch it and react to it, I always crave good reactions on this show and ZB1 and when it's already from one of my favorite reactors it's even better ! 2024-07-01 12:14:58 +0000 UTCMatthew is not from Quebec, however there's a lot of schools elsewhere in Canada with bilingual programs, and since those are considered more elite academically, Asian parents would put their kids in those programs, even if French is, indeed, not super useful on a global scale. His French probably got rusty while he was training in Korea, since he lacked opportunities to practice.

2024-07-01 11:50:32 +0000 UTCI'm so happy you decided to watch this even though you already know who the zb1 members are. just a heads up there is a lot of evil editing (as per usual with mnet) and sometimes the masters say some things that are rude later one when evaluating performance and during practices but honestly most of the time these judges are told to act out this cold and scary mentor for entertainment purposes. you'll see some of the zb1 members on baek koo young's show talking about some moments and they laugh about it now. anyways can't wait for sundays now and as always thanks for the reaction!!

2024-07-01 01:09:49 +0000 UTCOh I agree--I made my comment to give context on why an established idol like Hui may have decided to go on this show, not to say it was a good/bad or fair/unfair decision. I think it's a fine line; I don't think it's always unfair for established artists to appear on survival shows, but I think the more popular the idol, the less "fair" it is. Take, for example, the NINE.i boys. Their group was pretty unknown, and very few people watched Boys Planet just for them. For a group which has low sales and isn't well-known, coming on a survival show is a way to promote to a new audience, not an unfair advantage, and I don't have a problem with it. I think with a contestant like Hui, who is relatively famous, it becomes less fair because they have a large fanbase coming in which, as you mentioned, kind of goes against the spirit of the show.

2024-07-01 00:04:53 +0000 UTCI understand that but have mixed opinions on that. The thing is you get people watching a show for one person and then they only vote for taht person. It didn’t happen on this show but it happened on other shows. Like I’ll use Build up as an example. People didn’t want Jay on the show since he had already debuted in one pact. Now I have nothing against Jay I follow him and oneoact and I will stan BDU also. But many people watched build up only for Jay and only vote for him and no one else. That’s not within the spirit of these shows. To do that tells the others their hard work doesn’t matter. Like also on build up their were times in which jays team wasn’t scored very highly by the judges by were saved every time by the votes. Not saying it was rigged but it was completely unfair.

2024-06-30 23:51:33 +0000 UTCAnd something I’ll add to shed some context on the Hui situation—Boys Planet is the most recent in a string of MNET survival shows of similar format, and throughout the genre it has become common for debuted idols to join survival shows in order to bring more attention to their groups; the groups formed on survival shows like Boys Planet are temporary, and so it’s a valuable trade off to promote with a new group for ~two years and in doing so drum up support for your original group, and original groups can benefit from a member’s exposure on a show like this even if they don’t win or debut with the project group. This started in PRODUCE 101, with girls from the group DIA, and became more common after Produce 101 season 2, largely because Hwang Minhyun (the host of this show who did the intro section) and his members from NU’EST completely revitalized their group to newfound popularity following their appearance and Minhyun’s debut in WannaOne. In the iteration of the survival show immediately preceding Boys Planet, Hui’s label mate and CLC member Choi Yujin debuted with Kep1er following the unofficial disbandment of CLC. I would guess the combination of seeing other idols successfully bring attention to their original groups and seeing his own label mate succeed motivated Hui to join in an effort to revitalize Pentagon.

Park Hanbin, Keita ,seungeon, junghyun, Jihoo and yunseo who all debuted in evnne. Kum junhyeon, woojin, minseong and keonhee who debuted in tiot. Haruto, Anthonny , tokuto and yuto who debuted in toz. Kamdan, jiho and Brian debuted in Ampers&one. Jongwoo, sungmin, taegyum, yedam and Jay who debuted in onepact. Also Jay who’s also in BDU. Wumuti who debuted in waterfire. Ollie who debuted in loong9. Then several others who have made solo debuts.

There are several other groups that have debuted with boys planet contestants, so maybe you can also check them out once you get to know the boys (EVNNE, TIOT, ONEPACT, to name a few). If you fall in love with some boys who didn’t debut with ZB1, there’s good odds they debuted elsewhere!
