BTS ON SNL! Performances + Behind Scenes!

Comments

The SNL performances definitely brought in more people to the fandom. I remember seeing very positive comments on the SNL YT videos.💜 Also fun fact about Emma Stone-- she is actually a pretty big fan of kpop in general. I saw an interview where she talked about loving 2nd gen girl groups lol.

These two performances were I think the first BTS stuff I ever saw after Chicken Noodle Soup sent me down the rabbit hole in 2019. I was really impressed with their skills and range. I remember some comments at the time from BTS newbies on the Mic Drop video talking about the guy with the orange vest and the guy in black XD.

I grew up on Michael...I was obsessed w/ smooth criminal. U gotta watch it cause I c so many references in the choreography. And just overall my first watch of SNTY was a jaw drop, if there is anyone who can carry the Michael mantle it would b JK...BTS overall feels like an evolution of what Michael did. The genre bending, vocals, dance. I probably connect more w/ the 80s stuff, Michael was at his peak then...the 90s stuff is a mixed bag for me but I would suggest taking at look at Michael's Off the Wall, Thriller, and the Smooth Criminal video...I would say Dynamite, Butter and SNTY r their babies.

Great reaction. It was a really big deal, their first ever live performance of Boy With Luv was on SNL. I had to wait til they uploaded it online cuz I don't have cable but I was really excited. I think it was a good choice to do Mic Drop because they could show their range. It's interesting you asking about our thoughts on Mic Drop mentioning it's not really kpop, I was just having a discussion with someone on how many reactors I see get confused because they think BTS=KPOP so even the people reacting to songs like Mic Drop or J-Hope's More & Arson or Agust D Daechwita & Haeguem are like "this is Kpop?" and no it really isn't. It gets confusing because kpop is not a genre of music but now it get's classified as such. I've got very complicated feelings about the label "kpop", I know the guys don't care after years of going thru so much they wear it like a badge of honor. But personally speaking I see what's currently happening with the BBMA's, streaming services, & American award shows in general. After years of BTS winning several main category awards at BBMA & AMA, now BBMA creates new kpop categories this year while BTS is on a group break and refuses to put any of the members in main category nominations despite them more then qualifying by Billboards own point system standard. I think Jimin did get a nomination in Top Selling Song but that was the only exception while the other members only got "kpop" categories. The fact they put Agust D in Top Kpop Tour nominations instead of Top Rap Tour when even Billboard themselves wrote several articles about D-Day getting a number 1 on Top Rap Album chart & in the top ten of Top Rap Song, how is Agust D now called kpop? Seven a song written, produced by Americans featuring an American Rapper sung in all English from an all English Album only qualifies for "kpop" because the singer is of Korean ethnicity. I think the guys have been fighting for a while now to be seen as World Artists & don't want to be boxed in but the western industry is trying to shove them back in the box by using the kpop label to do it with and using it to other them, they don't want their profitable western mostly American artists having to compete with BTS or it's members any longer. Most of us had the notion things were probably going this direction because they are afraid of BTS, but we still had a small hope that things wouldn't happen like that. Anyways, this was a fun performance & it was lovely the guys got to meet Emma she seems like a sweetheart I've seen her in quite a few movies like Crazy Stupid Love which I thought she was great in.

PS If you want to see Jin rose throw, Jin always throws a rose after RM's verse (when he and others go down and then Jin is the only one standing and throwing)

SNL did catch alot of locals and sent them into the army tangent. As for the album Emma got, its the Map of the Soul Persona album (which has Boy with Luv in it). It was also their comeback stage so they were rightfully nervous

I’ve listened to boy with luv so many times and this is the first time i’ve noticed how many adlibs jungkook does in the background at the end of the song. he does such a great job as a main vocalist blending in, making the sound fuller/more interesting while not being noticed (for the vocal in the foreground to have the attention.) Loved both of these performances, they did amazingly. I remember bts talking about la la land at some point so i’m sure they mutually were excited to meet each other!

If I remember right this was like the second live performance i was able to catch in real time. I think it was a good idea for them to perform these two different style of songs. I remember it was a big deal they were the first to perform there. A very small stage but they did so amazing.

Okay, that Mic Drop fit on Hobi is in my top 5 j-hope looks of all time. And he just killed that performance. I watched it a dozen times before i was able to even look up long enough to see what everyone else was wearing. haha. And they all did so great, obviously. But his energy in that performance was so sexy and swaggy and he just looked so fcking cool. Iconic.

This SNL Boy with Luv performance was actually what sent me down the BTS rabbit hole so it has a special place in my heart. I had seen other performances but this one was so adorable that it got me into watching ALL of their content lol.

I was admittedly one of those people who had Mic Drop on my Spotify playlists before I even knew it was/got in to BTS (I did know it wasn't in English tho LOL unlike that reacter) so I think it was a great choice for them to show their range on SNL, especially since they performed Boy With Luv too <3
