Reacting to: An introduction to BTS discography

Please watch the full intro to understand this video.  This is being pre-recorded for YouTube and will be posted as part of my BTS DISCOGRAPHY WEEK series which I will post once I have my album reactions finished.  I will be posting them here on Patreon first as I go so that it's not stressful and then post them on YouTube once I have enough to do a full week series.

So I hope you enjoy the super early access to this and let me know your thoughts!

This was a great video by Boracity Magazine and was super informative!

Bit late, but so excited for this!!!

ooo "Picnic Live" had one of my favorite live versions of "Tomorrow" and "A Song for You" had one of my fav live version of "Let Me Know" too.

roguechevelle

Hi Sir Austin! You were asking about radio live performances near the beginning. They did do some. I spotted a few in a quick look thru my playlist. Just One Day on Kiss The Radio - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVunQzwGYNA and another time Let Me Know - https://youtu.be/gicHM4o6bwE A cover song (I'm blanking on the name) on Shindong's SimSimTaPa - https://youtu.be/hfzs8-MmArc (although this is very bad quality) and the rapline did Satoori Rap - https://youtu.be/45MgPc2bSIg There are others, I know they did Let Me Know several times, and they were also on "A Song for You" and "Picnic LIVE" that are these more intimate live performances.

OMG finally watching this as work kept me busy. Can't wait to see you do deep dive into their discography album reactions. And yes we don't talk about On feat Sia. It is the voldemort of our fandom...the song just does not work

Just a fyi about the solo songs in the WINGS album and the comeback trailers for the LY series (Serendipity, Singularity, Euphoria and Epiphany); for wings every solo song does have a video, but they are NOT music videos, they are SHORT FILMS that only have a very few lines/parts of the songs because it focuses more on the visuals since they are a part of the BU universe and related to the storyline of each member and Demian’s book (the inspiration the for wings album); and for the comeback trailers of the LY series (vocal line intro’s), there are music videos yes, BUT! especially Jk’s euphoria mv (that you asked about specifically) it is completely focused on the BU so you might not understand the context of anything in the mv at least you have watched all of the previous BU content (mv’s, the notes, the webtoon, etc.). Just wanted to let you know because I think you have seen the epiphany, serendipity and singularity mv’s that don’t have alot of relation to the BU (only Jin’s has a little bit), but for Euphoria and the short films for WINGS they are totally BU content, so, if you react to them you will probably be with a wtf face all the time lol, and in the case of the short films like I said they don’t have the full songs in it. 💜💜💜 Of course it’s your decision to chose if you react to them in this bts week or later on when you dive in the BU universe (which I would recommend so you have context while watching them and also don’t get spoiled, also for the solo’s in wings the lyric videos or doolset is better since they would have the full songs).

Some things on the video: I'm surprised she didn't mention that the song "2! 3!" on the Wings album was bts' first official fan song but it's a lot of info so things are bound to get left out. Boy with Luv is a response to Boy in Luv because BiL is young love with it's passions & angst but BwL was a matured love where they want to know all about your day and the little things that make u you. Boy With Luv's korean title translates to "A Poem of small things". The Map of the Soul: 7 is just a masterpiece honestly, the whole concept of using Jungian Psychology was just really cool. Also something very cool is each rapline song for the album used samples or remixes integrated into them of previous intros to their first 3 mini albums. RM's Persona used his portion of their intro to the 3rd album Skool Luv Affair originally performed by rapline. Suga's Shadow used the intro to their 2nd album O!RUL8,2? originally performed by RM. J-Hope's Ego used the intro to the first album or debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool originally mostly instrumental but featured RM saying "big hit exclusive" and was used for their debut trailer. Which was cool because as each mv was released it kinda felt like a countdown 3,2,1. Oh their commercial songs are bops! I love RM's coffee commercial song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmuoqNrOuCs&t=4s and the Lotte Duty free song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mHYHtJln1s&t=3s

I'm excited for your discography journey. BE was really cool the members were in charge of every aspect of it's creation from top to bottom. Each member had a role for what they were in charge of. What's really cool was this was during the pandemic so they kept army up to date with progress on the album, they kept going live on youtube doing logs with them having discussions about the album etc. It felt like army was apart of the process too just by being able to watch the formation of the album. I especially enjoyed the log where the members were discussing what songs they should put on the album. I'm sure they probably had a rough idea already and they spoke a bit vaguely to not give away many details but it was still really fun, it felt like being in the room with them while they were brainstorming

roguechevelle

Those are partly wrong, you can read up in the Album Credits it says who did what and the Unboxing Live Stream, all of them explain it there in detail.Jimin is credited as “A&R” (Artists and Repertoire),V is “Visual Creative”,RM is credited with “Album Design'' Namjoon Designed the Album, and it's his handwriting on it. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, and Jungkook are all credited with “Production and Coordination”. And JK Co Directed the MV. The Music got composed and written by each member, Dis-Ease and Blue and Grey, were actually for Hobis and Taes solos projects, they submitted the songs for BE tho, and chose who sings what by vote, like they always do. Dis-Ease is also produced by the person wrote produced More, since Hobi wrote them at the same time. Blue and Grey is produced by Tae and his friend and re-written by Rapline and Hiss Noise, the rest is produced by the Bighit in-house producers like Hiss Noise, El Capitxn and Pdogg, with gang vocals and instruments of the bighit team, and co writing as well.

AstronautInTHEboX

They do write most of their Japanese songs but they also work with Japanese songwriters/producers so there’s probably a translation assistance there! They could just come up w melodies & Korean lyrics & then have them translated

Sarah F

Can't wait for you to get to the album reactions . Oh wow I actually haven't watch this video before but it's a very good breakdown on bts albums. Yes I would love for you to see the radio interviews/ performances they did in the past.

JoY

Yeah I remember Namjoon saying he wrote pretty much all the lyrics for the MOTS: Persona album excluding Hobi and Yoongi's parts. And that he writes so much of the lyrics for their music that he can't think of what to say for his own parts!

K E

I love your hair! Looks good on you!

Abigail

Bestie! Ur hair looks sooo pretty😊 take your time with the albums, thank u for the video🫶🏻💜

Jimin and Jhope are usually the ones who are noted by Japanese speakers as being the most fluent

kookmineve

Maybe you can skip the Japanese songs that are just the Korean ones re-released, however do not skip the new Japanese songs, because those songs are some of the best songs in their entire discography, For you, Lights, Stay Gold, Crystal Snow, Your Eyes Tell, Film Out are literally in my top 15 BTS Songs and they are all Japanese songs, they are usually very vocal heavy and usually Jimin, Jin and Jungkooks vocals are really stand out due to the Belting and high notes that usually the Japanese songs have

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LEkq5p3RWGL9cBqVcQgdgPmI0hLdoO5uohVsHoLQ8ds/edit?usp=sharing This Google Doc I made might help you :) Doesn't include solo projects tho! Just their official BTS albums

Sarah F

About the hidden tracks you need to be careful. Usually “Sea”’s reactions are blocked (like Anitra) so perhaps the hidden tracks not on YT but here only

Ailaudy93

You’re mostly right but the part about Rapline not writing parts for vocal line is not true at all. RM wrote vocal line’s tracks like 00:00 lost & truth untold, & several solo vocal line tracks (with no raps). He wrote serendipity himself, he wrote the melody for spring day, he wrote Begin, etc. Hobi wrote the “wide awake wide awake don’t cry” melody for Jin’s Awake & the melody for Whalien 52’s chorus. These are just a few examples bc they write a ton of stuff for vocal line on top of their own raps!

Sarah F

Austin, It is so much fun to go with you the journey of BTS Discography. I don't think I could do it by myself. And, about BTS's Japanese level, they can have small talk with the audiences in concerts in Japanese. As I know, It's essential for Korean idols to learn Japanese. Cause Japan is the biggest market of Korean entertainment.

KIRANG PARK

I believe V was made the visual director (responsible for their photo shoots, styling etc), J-Hope was in charge of choreography, Jimin was indeed the overall project manager for the album, Suga and Jin were in charge of the album jacket (what the album would look like, what it would include (like posters, photobook etc), Jungkook was the director for the Life Goes On music video, and I believe RM was the music director.

SH

I love euphoria festa version soooooo much

Shreya

About BE album: it was album they all had distinct roles in producing (there is series of vlogs discussing process) and Jimin had a "project lead" role, ypu can say a director of a project, so he would be responsible for the overall schedule and components coming together, jk directed mv, rapline was obviously in the music production, o think V and Jin were responsible for visual style (i kight not remember each role precisely, maybe someone will correct me in comments)

Oleksandra Yakubenko

24:43 jungkook is actually credited as a writer on “no more dream” and “we are bulletproof” from the first album.. not just rapline. It makes sense though bc the reason the rapline hVe more writing creds is bc they each write their own rap parts… bc as rappers.. if you are rapping someone else’s words.. it loses a bit of that authenticity.. you can just tell the difference between someone rapping their own lyrics.. and someone rapping someone else’s. The rap line doesn’t often write the vocalists parts for songs… which is an advantage for the rappers to have more opportunities to write their own stuff. A lot of the vocal parts get sung twice by two separate members… so it’s tricky to someone write the words for someone else to sing…. Bc of how they rotate parts… it is always going to happen lol but bc jungkook is a sub rapper and had raps on this album… makes sense that he’s credited… he probably just wrote his own rap

First time watching this discography here with you! I enjoyed it a lot and it was really well made from Boracity. Take your time with the album listening and do when the time feels right to you to do it. Really excited for The Rise of Bangtan too!! :)

Daydream⁷

Yes please watch the Rise of Bangtan. It's so well made and it provides a lot of information!

Jackie

not boracity confusing u with some of the timeline and u confusing me with the album reaction relase schedule😂 I mean i am watching this at 4 am so now im gonna go, but do go at ur own pace with the album reactions😊

Branka VMin

Sea is one of my favorite songs tho I don't listen to it often cuz it makes me emotional, beautiful song. Yeah that's the only one I've seen reactors have trouble with I think Anitra had to post it on patreon tho she did so for free.

roguechevelle

I agree that u should take ur time so u can truly enjoy and digest the music and themes. And to ur comment about their MVs needing to b watched to get the full experience i say YES. Im very excited for u to start. I really enjoy Boracity's videos, she's a great resource of information. Happy listening!😊

Bea

Yay! I just got done watching and I am excited for you to start the full album reactions. But I did want to say first if you haven't ready their book yet you should. It was so good. Second I think the reason you haven't seen the MVs for the solo songs on the Wings album and the MV for Euphoria is because is has to do with the BU. The Wings solo MVs are short film and don't contain the full songs just clips of the songs. It is more focused on the storyline the same for the Euphoria MV. I tried to remember all the questions you had but I don't remember now...haha can't wait for the first album reaction!

Venita Morse

So much info in that book too. I loved that they put that book together.

Venita Morse

Love that for you. Their albums/songs have so much thought behind them. You should enjoy them at the speed that works best for you. That's what our guys would want! The pre-recording is the perfect idea. Borahae!

SuchALittleMonster

I think so! And pre-recording will make is so I don't have to stress out as much. Even though I want to listen to everything right now. It's less stressful for me to do it at my own pace.

Sir Austin

I love this idea! It's exciting to get to watch your journey. Thank you for sharing!

SuchALittleMonster

You can react to the hidden tracks on youtube - the only one you might have trouble with is Sea - I've seen that one get blocked by Hybe. Army/BTS don't mind reactors reacting to it.

Alix Drifty

boracity makes great content! omg i’m sooo excited for your album journey!!

mel

Just a point of correction for the video: Up until their recent memoir came out basically last week, the popular belief was that RM was first to sign - but it's actually that RM was the first member of BTS (the group), Hobi was actually the first person signed with BigHit, but they signed him and left him in his home town to continue to study dance (at the time they didn't have dorms in Seoul yet, so they had nowhere for him to stay if they brought him to Seoul) it was only after they signed RM and Suga that they called Hobi and told him to come to Seoul.

Alix Drifty

Oo! I like this idea! I'm looking forward to the album videos. I hope you enjoy the journey! :)

Alix Drifty

Ahhhhhh I thought you were going to start Swuchita but the Albums ahhhhhh im so excited.

Misle Castillo

Haven't watched yet. Going to right now, but you are the first reactor I have seen react to this. Thank you!

Venita Morse
