Team Beef Future Game Ports Suggestions / Discord

From checking the patron list, we've noticed that only a small percent of you are on our Discord Channel. If you do fancy a more active and social community, there is a good place to catch up and discuss the in-development (and released) ports with fellow Team Beef VR gamers. The discord also features Patreon-only channels for mid-tier and up.

Future Game Suggestions

We've been asked a lot what are the possibilities for the future and what are the prerequisites for a suggestion to be considered. Here are the general guidelines

Native Quest 2 / Pico 4 Games:

Any game suggestion should have released (not illegally dumped) and licensed Open Source code of that port's engine (ideally also ported to Android). If a game doesn't have the source released, even if an Android version exists on Google Play store (I.e. HL2 / GTA:SA) a port is not possible. If it's not ported the Android, but the source exists, it is still a possibility either to convert ourselves, or instead focus on a PCVR version. When suggesting, ideally include a link to the released source code. This allows us to quickly evaluate and let you know the possibility of porting.

A good example of this is Star Trek: Elite Force. We've heard numerous times that the code has been made Open Source but the only versions we have seen are just the code for MP without the Single Player portions. If you have a different source, we may not be aware of it.

PCVR Unity Games:

Pretty much any Unity game can be modded for VR, giving enough effort. However multi-player games are usually out of the question due to anti-cheat measures, which would detect such a mod on public servers (although private servers are still a possibility). Some games contain a Unity process known as IL2CPP, where the code is converted to C++ functions during compilation, which makes it harder to decompile these games. However it is still possible.

We therefore accept any suggestions of PCVR games which are made in Unity. Here's a good list compiled by the Flat2VR community for inspiration:
https://www.notion.so/beastsaber/Unity-Games-That-Would-Be-Good-For-VR-a947c6c85ff342bcbb5a24e9ab49e564

PCVR Native Games:

Much like Native Quest 2 games if an Open Source engine exists (or engine rewrite such as OpenMW) it is possible to create PCVR versions of those games. We've previously focused on Quest 2 development for quite a few reasons but are considering looking into PCVR (even for our own ports - WrathQuest / JKQuest / RTCWQuest where an equivalent PCVR mod does not already exist). So much like the Quest 2 section, as long as the game has source available and that source is properly licensed (not illegally dumped) please do suggest these.

PCVR Unreal Engine (UE4) Games:

Much like many people we are eagerly awaiting the release of PreyDog's Universal Unreal Engine VR Injector Mod, which in theory should make any UE4 game playable in VR. It may well be the case that individual games need specific tweaking or enhancements on top of that mod. If this is the case it is likely that Team Beef could be doing this work. However nothing is known at this time and therefore we are currently not taking UE4 suggestions.

We look forward to your suggestions either here on this post or via Discord. The future of VR has never been brighter!

Current Suggestions

We've created a Trello Board with all the game suggestions thus far. It also contains quite a bit of other general information. Please do check it out. In the future we will hold Patreon votes on what game should be tackled next.

Comments

Is this actually released yet? If so please send a link to the released version. If its still in development is something we wouldn't look at yet as it would likely change in the future.

The mod is this and today is working only for PC GZDoom VR! 😢

Alessandro D'Amico

I tried the latest version of Cheello's Mod Voxel for QuestZDoom, it crash! Need a update for working! Did you try it? Is good in VR! I try it only on GZDoom VR for PC and is spectacular!

Alessandro D'Amico

This one has already been suggested and is on the Trello page as a potential prospect. Looks amazing but slightly harder to mod as IL2CPP

I think I commented on this one before. This is one that does have the potential to already actually run on QuestZDoom or might with some minor changes. However we expect the performance to be restrictive (based on the way GZDoom works). I've made a new list on the trello page of GZDoom games to test and added it there.

I think this one would be great in VR : sea of solitude , unit engine

Tomo

SELACO VR mod!

Alessandro D'Amico

Metro series uses their own custom engine: 4A Engine. So not really any route at all at the moment to mod that (other than something like a Luke Ross Reshade type thing - which is not something we are doing at the moment). Same for God of War: Its a Proprietary Engine.

What's petition?

Would you guys take on board a project like METRO EXODUS Enhanced? or GOD OF WAR ?

Tomo

petition + Original Unreal in VR

I was reading through this and it jogged my memory of some things that were going on during the heyday of JK2 and JA and one of those things was a mod that was being worked on that basically redid Dark Forces 1 in Jedi Academy as a mod. I remember playing it when it was just the first level (if I remember correctly it started out as a JK2 mod and was switched to a JA mod when JA was released) but it looks like they made it far enough to get 6 levels done. Looks like one of the creators died of a heart attack and the project was abandoned but I wonder if this VR version that will get released of Jedi Academy might support this mod. Link is below: https://jkhub.org/files/file/1540-dark-forces-mod/

Yeah it is very old but soooo good. :) Would love a vr treat.

Yeah agreed. A lot of people asking for UT, but getting a 3DOF networking code working with 6dof from the players point of view was very tricky. I really loved the UT SP campaign. I hope someday, be it a remaster or similar its playable in VR. I heard NightDive might do an official version (the company working on System Shock 2 currently). Unfortunately no source for us to work with as things stand. In terms of Abzu I'd agree PreyDogs injector is the best hope for that at the moment. For this type of game I'd expect minimal tweaking required for it to be a good experience out of the box.

I'd give anything to play the original Unreal in VR. I still remember the first time I played it back in '98 and it was absolutely gorgeous. I loved your VR port for Quake 2 as I played a ton of it back then as well and it brought it all back to me for that game and I think the same could be done for Unreal 1. I don't know if there are challenges to overcome with that engine but I'd love to play that one in VR even if it's in PCVR. Also, I second the suggestions for JKDF2 and DF1 as both were games I played a ton back in the day. I'd like to add the Star Wars game Shadows of the Empire to that list. It was amazing back in the day and might make a good VR port even with mostly 3rd person perspective gameplay and it sells on Steam for like $6 (on sale right now for $2). All the Star Wars games in those days were the best. I just thought of another one I'd love to play in VR, Abzû. I have bouts with anxiety and this game is my zen place that calms me down. I think it's UE4 so it may work itself out when the UE4 VR mod releases but I just wanted to throw this one out there. The fact that this one doesn't have official VR support should be a crime lol.

AG4VR

Nice... I'll check those out. Dark Forces 1 has been fun so far.... just looks very dated

For me Dark Force 1 was always better than DF2. With the 2nd one you feel that 3D was something new to Lucas Arts. The level design was terrible and I stopped half way through where DF1 I love, except the damn sewer level. Civvie 11 made two videos about both games and they are worth a watch.

Alicher: I don't think the engine is actually open to adding motion controls. We'd have to do it via CheatEngine (trying to directly manipulate memory addresses), which wouldn't be so successful. Since this is such a heavily lauded game, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an official VR port at some point. I agree there it could be better with those, but not something really in our usual work method. Nicky: I suspect if the World Scale was an easy fix, Nibre would have done it by now. Again possibly something that could be done via cheat engine.

I'm playing Dark Forces one on my Steam Deck at the moment, and honesty I think it would make for a terrible VR experience. However I've heard Dark Forces 2 is a much better game / engine. This one makes the list for sure.

Only thing wrong with alien isolation is world scale imo appart from that i wouldnt touch it as the mod is good as it is as you say

Nicky Butler

Since you guys are already doing Star Wars; Why not do TheForceEngine or OpenJKDF2? Would be awesome to play the complete saga in VR! https://github.com/luciusDXL/TheForceEngine https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/OpenJKDF2

Yes, that looks quite possible. Maybe as a PCVR app. Luke Ross has already got a PCVR version of NOLF2.

Yes i agree on Darq and orpheus etc. at least we have 2-3 fairly good candidates from that list

Tomo

What about NOLF? It’s an early version of LithTech iirc, so I assume it could work!

the game has fully working vr but no motion controllers support.....i know it is nearly impossible...just interesting if it is possible to run separated module for the controllers support only? it is how d2 remastered was made....there is an old version running in background .... AI is superb game.........

Alicher Rakhimov

Alien Isolation is an odd one, as I don't think VR support would exist without the devs already adding it behind the scenes. I've played through the whole thing in VR and I didn't find too much I would want to improve on. What did you have in mind specifically?

As long as its just a small Pandora's box, I don't want to exit VR testing with pinhead behind me ;-) I had a look through the list: DARQ - looks like an awesome game. I was a big fan of Little Nightmares. I'm not sure how suited it is to VR, that something like GEO3D couldn't already accomodate. The big question being, what do you actually see when you rotate your head? I don't think its ready for the voting list as yet. Everreach Project Eden is UE4, not Unity In Sound Mind, looks like a perfect VR game. Its unfortunately IL2CPP, which makes things quite a bit harder, but not impossible, I've added to the Trello board Sea of Solitude... wow wow a great looking game. IL2CPP again, which is a shame. I've added to the board. The Slater.... Mono, devs said they aren't interested. Added to the board. Narcosis... as said already, an official VR mod exists Little Orpheus - Similar to Darq, I am not sure what will happen when rotating the camera. Also IL2CPP. I suspect GEO3D is probably the best way to experience this in VR. Disco Elysium - I would kind of love it if you could have an Isometric type view in VR and easily look over the whole landscape. However I don't think it's going to work as the other views won't have been created. Also Il2CPP.

I'll check these out tomorrow. The one that was familiar to me, Narcosis, already has official VR support.

Now you opened a small Pandora box :) There are quite a few really cool UNITY games which would be great in VR: DARQ Everreach Project Eden In Sound mind Sea of solitude The Slater Narcosis Little Orpheus Disco Elysium

Tomo

hi guys.....alien isolation needs a proper vr treatment....

Alicher Rakhimov

And there's way too many Baldi's Basics things for me to link them all, All of them are Mono games tho.. I think, I'd have to double check

MalaBG

10:35 in video for what Dev said https://youtu.be/GUNA7YiOXWc But he said it might not even happen because he has 0 clue how VR works

MalaBG

You got a link for this? Also a link to what the developer said? These ports take us over 100 hours in some cases so very unlikely we would do anything if the dev themselves was working on a version.

Baldi's Basics in VR (even though the dev is making their own version) would be pretty dope im ngl
