Commercial Use Policy

The following policy is in regards to the use of our maps and assets in various commercial formats. The below General Terms apply to all elements of this policy.

General Terms

• "Commercial Use" is where use of our content is being used in way that has the ability to generate revenue, whether directly or indirectly
• For the purpose of our Commercial Use Policy, "assets" refer to the digital token assets used to create our maps. "Media" will be used to represent other content such as music, illustrations, adventures, etc.
• Commercial Use of content only includes maps and assets and does not include the use of any other media unless stated otherwise
• Our Commercial Use extends to all Patreon supporters, and map and asset products purchased through our web shops
• Our Commercial License extends to supporters at the All The Things™ tier
• Our content is always free to use for personal use and you do not need to seek permission to use it in your home games
• The following information does not include the rights to use collaborative content provided by other creators, only content made by The MAD Cartographer, unless stated otherwise
• Use of content provided under this policy does not, and should not, suggest sponsorship or affiliation by The MAD Cartographer for either the products made with it nor the creator themselves
• Maps, assets and media listed in the "Restricted Content" cannot be used as part of our Commercial Use or Commercial License

All of our maps and assets are free to be used on your streams or video channels if you are  a Patreon supporter, regardless of your Patreon tier. We appreciate shout-outs and attribution in credits and comments, but it is not a stipulation for use and simply a curtesy to us if you use our content.

Adventures: As The MAD Cartographer is not responsible for writing the adventures we release, if you wish to run one of our adventures then you must give attribution to the adventure writer, which can be found in the adventure details.

All of our maps and assets are free to be used in your paid DMing games (charging players to run a game for them) if you are  a Patreon supporter, regardless of your Patreon tier. We appreciate mentions at the table, but it is not a stipulation for use and simply a curtesy to us if you use our content.

The following license is in respect to the maps and assets provided by The MAD Cartographer Patreon, available to supporters of the All The Things™ tier, it does not extend to other media available through the The MAD Cartographer Patreon.

Release: You must have an active All The Things™ Patreon subscription at the time of release on your products.

Our Maps: Maps created by The MAD Cartographer can only be used in your product as a watermarked (see below) reference map within the text, maps themselves are not for redistribution and must not be provided separately. All used maps must come with accompanying content where the map is not the main part of the product. Minor alterations to a map with additional assets are still considered one of our maps. .

Your Maps: Maps created by you using our assets or blank map variants require written accreditation near the map, but do not require a watermark on the map

Accreditation: All content released under the Commercial License must credit The MAD Cartographer and their contributing works in the following ways

• Our name in the credits with some itteration of "Cartography by The MAD Cartographer", "Maps by The MAD Cartographer", etc. with a link to www.patreon.com/themadcartographer
• A link to www.patreon.com/themadcartographer in some prominent position near the battlemap
• The above information must be written in any website description text if being posted online

Watermarks: Use of one of the maps we have made must contain our Patreon watermark on the map itself in your adventure, supplement, module or other published material. The watermark placed must be at least one quarter the width of the map and be legible (various watermarks are enclosed as an attachment). Logo watermarks can be used in credits pages if you require them.

Redistribution: You may not distribute any maps or assets as standalone artwork or products without our permission. This policy does not constitute as permission.

Foundry VTT: This Commercial License does not extend to creating commercial content (maps, map packs, adventures or supplements that include maps) that are released for the Foundry Virtual Tabletop platform. The MAD Cartographer holds exclusive rights to distributing our content through Foundry VTT. If you have a module or product you wish to release on Foundry that uses our maps, contact us first.

Crowd Funding Projects: If you are looking to create a larger product for a Crowd Funding project (e.g. Kickstarter) then contact us directly for permission. Use of our work in this way is on a case by case basis and falls under different terms of use and fees.

In Perpetuity: Use of our Commercial License for any content released whilst you are a Patreon All The Things™ supporter will remain in perpetuity even if your Patreon subscription ends (you won't need to stop selling old products if you stop your subscription, but you cannot publish new content until you start your subscription again)

Harmful Content: Maps and assets provided by The MAD Cartographer are not to be used in any project or product that could be harmful, derogatory or profane and seem to damage the reputation of The MAD Cartographer. We retain the right to have such projects and products removed at any time and such actions will be made in writing.

Fair Use: If you are intending to release a single product using more than three of our maps, you must discuss this with us.

If you do use our content in your products, projects or streams, let us know! We're always excited to see our content being used and may even be able to give you a shout out!

The following maps and media are excluded from the Commercial Use and Commercial License as they are either derivative works, created as part of a collaboration, or we do not have permission to redistribute under the terms of this policy.

There are certain map names ("Titles") that we have used to identify our maps that we also recommend you do not use (though the maps they are related to are fine to use unless listed in "Maps").
