Hey there, folks! A quickie update for you today.
Today's cover image is a fitting one as I approach the finish line—the end screen for the Morning After Update, which was the final piece of art that was needed before the art side of things was officially complete.
As is obvious, I wasn't able to meet my self-imposed deadline of yesterday. There are a few reasons, one being that I've basically been in crunch mode and at certain points my body forced me to catch up on sleep, which I guess is something I should try to fit in 😉 There's also some personal stuff I won't go into.
That being said, mostly it's code and testing stuff that's holding things up. A big part of this update revolved around cleaning up code and creating new systems that will make the rest of the game easier to create. There are still remnants of old systems I tried out that need to be adapted to the current ones, otherwise they will cause issues both in this update and down the line.
And just in general, there is a ton of content that needs combed through to make sure that by fixing one problem I'm not creating another. After making everyone wait so long, I want to avoid playthroughs being marred by bugs and error screens as much as I can.
The great news is that since I'm near to the end, a lot of the pieces are firmly in place, which means I can actually play through many story paths beginning to end. Seeing the final product pulled together is a relief, and I'm pretty happy with what I made.
I'll also say that now having seen certain scenes in the full context of a playthrough, fans of a few characters in particular are going to simultaneously love me and hate me 😇
Timeline wise for the release, at this point I can't really say anything definitive, but maybe by this weekend? I'll make sure to do another status update when I feel more confident in a finish date.
There's more I'd like to discuss, but I think you all would rather I spend my time on the game instead of a way-too-long essay 😉 Back to it I go!
