I actually go far more basic than that, since I don't really know how to mask effectively. For the club image example, I placed the second image over the first, then selected everything to the left of the couple walking in from the back. I removed that section from the top layer to show the people at the bar. I then used a soft eraser brush on the new seam between the two images to blend them together. I do stage scenes so the lighting won't be too different, and often any differences are so subtle no one will notice except me. There are exceptions where sometimes the lighting is so wildly different, I have to do small spot renders and composite them in. I go more into detail on this method in this BTS post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/behind-scenes-5-93453233 I have done the method you described of rendering an overlay with a transparent background, but only a couple times. I have the same problem with it as you - the lighting differences makes it look completely off. The CG from the game that immediately comes to mind is Alex & Raven's presentation at the club. The audience was rendered with a transparent background. I can see the noticeable edges it caused, but I'm not sure how obvious it is to anyone else. So I default to the above - multiple renders, either full scenes or spot renders of a specific section, then use an eraser. I have no idea how something like that could be automated, unfortunately. I do it all by hand.

The compositing has been an absolute pain of mine recently. I've managed to get a lot of other production components automated or at least streamlined, but the compositing is easily the most time consuming part of the process. A lot of my shots contain some element of depth between models so I'm forced to hand mask individual renders in PS. I've heard of others doing isolated renders with the transparent background and layering in PS or GIMP, but then you lose all the light detailing from the set like refraction, diffusion and shadows. Do you find yourself deliberately framing shots that can be crop stitched like the example you provided or do you hand mask as well?

If only you could join them and make it a foursome!

I don't really have a preference, actually. I take 'em as they come 😊 I'm more of an ass guy, probably because growing up I watched a lot of late night softcore porn and looked up a lot of celeb nude scenes. Most of those focused on guy's asses when the camera deigned to look away from the ladies, so I became an aficionado, haha.

i love this thank you for taking the time to post and possibly grow the world of visual novels... i may have missed it, what is your preference for male genitalia?

For this CG, you need to leave via the back exit. When you hear people while walking down the hall, peek into the room. For the continuation of the scene, you have to know the back exit exists & later leave via the back exit by yourself. I think fastest way may be arrive solo and stay solo the whole night. When you're given the option to explore downstairs, make sure to look for the alley. After the Skinema show, choose to go home when the option pops up.

I just wanna know how to get that scene with Alex and the band

Thats cool to see how you make scenes and characters.

You should definitely do a collaboration with the creator of Bound by Night with Mayhem as a Patron of 21CA teaching the students- especially Uriel about Elders and were-creatures!

Thank you! I love these behind the scenes :)
