Hey, guess what I just finished?
After two long months, and just under the wire for April, the new dev build for the Club Update is now ready to play!
You can download the build here:
PC: Google Drive
Mac: Google Drive
I did some last minute rewrites and art creation that extended development a bit, but I made sure to power through so everyone at Senior & Graduate level for April could get the download. Thank you all so much for your patience!
This new in-development version of the game adds story content for Isaiah and a solo path to the night at the club.
The Isaiah story is complete as of this build, as is the solo path, although some parts may be adjusted in the final release as I create the rest of the update.
Along with this story content comes 16 new CGs to unlock. Included among them are a few images that are a bit more explicit than the ones in the previous build...
Speaking of the previous build...
If you haven't played the prior dev build for the Club Update, you'll also find new story content for Alex and a new main character, Griffin, who is a bartender at Atelier 54.
Even if you have already played through their storylines, there are some additional interactions and scenes accessed via the alternate story paths. Sprites for many of the side characters have been added as well, which makes the scenes featuring them much more dynamic - in particular, a certain influencer's very enthusiastic admirer...
Still to come for the the Club Update release:
As discussed in the most recent game status update, I will most likely beeline straight towards the final release, but I may instead do a third dev build to bridge the gap. I'll keep you posted!
Although I have added a number of new backgrounds and a lot of new sprites, there are still placeholder images in this build. The background/CG placeholders are obvious and labeled. For the sprites, while a few characters aren't super emotive personality-wise, if a sprite doesn't change expression at all, it just means the character's sprites are still to come.
At this point there are a number of different ways to enter the club sequence. Here's what I recommend if you want to follow one storyline beginning to end.
For Isaiah, hang out with Isaiah after Will's class on Day 2. At the end of hanging out, you'll be invited to go along with him to the club.
For the solo path, choose to go to the club after spending the afternoon with any character who is not featured in the club update: Matt, Owen, Riley, Marco, or Dominic.
For Alex, the steps are essentially the same as Isaiah - hang out with Alex after Will's class and agree to go to the club with him.
For Griffin, choose to hang out with Asher after Will's class. You'll briefly meet Griffin during the hangout with Asher, and then you can continue interacting with Griffin after Asher goes to prepare for his show.
You'll also find several instances throughout the evening to swap between storylines if you so desire. Depending on your choices, this could negatively impact your relationship with the person you swapped from later down the line...
A few tips for seeing the most content:
With how down-to-the-wire this became, it's very possible - likely even - that I missed some things during my testing. This could include:
None of these are necessarily game-breaking outside of scenes not linking together correctly. If you happen across something like the above and would like to let me know, feel free to leave a comment or DM me!
Important: A common error can happen when loading a saved game that mentions a variable cannot be found. Although saves usually carry over between builds, sometimes they become incompatible.
The only way I know to fix this is to start a new game, then use the skip feature to fast forward through. It's a bit of a pain, but as someone who has to skip through from the beginning a lot, it really only takes a few minutes or so.
You are showing a lot of faith in me and this project, especially in light of the many delays this particular update has faced. I truly appreciate you guys supporting me as I tackle this project as a freshman solo developer.
I hope you find the new story content fun and engaging. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
