I NEVER saw Carol and daryl as a romantic pair. When I saw some fans hoping for it I was shocked and thought they were out of their damn minds! lol

I kept expecting Carol and Daryl to get together and was dreading it, not because I hate it but because they FEEL like family. Both come from such toxic, abusive environments, they feel like the idea of romantic love is just too overwhelming. They're learning how to give and take platonic/family love and feel safe in it, because remember both of them have lost EVERYONE. IDK what's in the future because I never finished the show, and I won't spoil anything but I was really glad to see they hadn't coupled either of these two up at this point, with each other or anyone else. It's nice to see a non-romantic representation of a man and woman who love each other and have it feel this genuine and tender ❤️‍🩹

An important theme to keep in mind during this season is what Rick and Hershel talked about towards the end of this ep and what Rick and Clara (the creepy zombie lady) talked about; whether you get to, or if it's even possible to "come back" and about losing who you are as a person. Definitely an ongoing theme of the whole show but this season in particular! Also a few things that are easy to miss this episode: It is never verbally mentioned but Hershel now has a prosthetic leg, shown when he's gardening and when he's talking with Rick towards the end of the ep. And the 3 questions Rick asks Clara are the same questions he was asked on his hallucinated phone call with jim, Jacqui, amy, and Lori. These 3 questions end up sticking with our group through like the entirety of the show.

Seeing you both this excited brings me back to watching this for the first time! Not sure if you guys noticed, but Hershel has a prosthetic leg now! Excellent premiere. I honestly felt really bad for the woman Rick found (played by Kerry Condon, excellent actress). As he told Hershel, that could've been him after losing Lori. I feel like that's a huge theme this season and with the series as a whole.

YESSS! okay so there's been a major time skip, as y'all can tell, and I know y'all are gonna bring up Hershel's leg. According to Scott Wilson, Hershel's actor, during the.. I think year or so between the end of s3 and the start of this season, they likely found a prosthetic leg for him to use while they were scavenging, but it's never really brought up in the show itself Edit: actually I just noticed you can see it when he's gardening with Rick at the start! I never even noticed that and I've watched this show several times
