He and Foggy tried to bring Fisk down the legal way, and Ray paid a price for trying to be the hero. He didn’t get to be with his family again, but he didn’t wanna go out as a cowardly accomplice for Kingpin. Honestly Matt and Foggy were far realer friends with Ray than Dex ended up being. Dex only cared about his reputation whereas Ray still had his family in mind.
