2024-06-18 23:20:31 +0000 UTCYes I agree it’s not “real” in the sense that it is based on a true story and not an exact retelling. When I say real history I mean it’s something you can research and learn more about and the watch concert videos and music videos etc. compared to something like fast movies which are great for what they are but are obviously created for the film. You can’t do background research. Doesn’t make it better or worse but just gives you an opportunity to learn more about history especially if you want to know more about American black culture seeing as you are dating someone who is part of that.

The movie, while an entertaining distraction, was also a movie in which Cube, Dre and Eazy's widow developed and produced it so it's far from unbiased. Unfortunately, that era of music is still woefully underwritten about, but Gerrick Kennedy's book "Parental Discretion Is Advised: The Rise of N.W.A. and the Dawn of Gangsta Rap" isn't a bad place to start. People have also requested Jerry Heller's memoir to me, but I yet to read it. Again, expecting Heller to be unbiased in his recollections would take an amount of faith that I simply don't possess.
