Breaking Bad (Season 3 - Episode 10)

Comments

This is the best episode, anyone who says bad shit about "Fly" fight me!

Charlie Martin

Headphone users hate this episode

MinkOff 119

vince ate in his final remarks no cap

Idan Diaz

This is one of my favorite episodes it's very funny I'm surprised people don't like it it's nice to have one refreshing episode to laugh to

Kencool Coooloo

It’s the definition of it lol.

Aaron Boone

Love this episode it’s not a filler it’s a bottle but it’s still an integral part of the whole story really also a lot of emotions and character revelations

Terry

The complaints about this episode are so dramatic and overblown. It's just because most episodes are literally diesel fuel in a volcano

Justin M Borowski

Does this qualify as a bottled episode?

Aldo Gonzales

Life's a funny thing isn't it.

Mark

I think their reaction is refreshing. I do think they are a bit naive on perspectives of people who do end up comitting crime and breaking laws. I agree with much of their stances, but I think their positions often come from a place of a better, more entitled existance than many (something they admit they are aware of) But in terms of the characters on the show, the people they hold accountable to their actions, are mostly pretty legit ___ (I strongly disagree with the Jane blame though. She was fully aware of her capabilities and while I think her and Jesse's life woul have been reckless and likely ruined moving forward without intervention, I truly believe she would not have died from overdose midsleep, because she was aware as fuck about the dangers of it. At worst, I'll blame her for sleeping in a place that was obviously no longer secure, having been broken in) ___ They also seem to fall into the trap of liking Walt because he's smart to the point where when Walt does something stupid, they are genuinely perplexed (Walt is not a god, people. He is prone to mistakes and stupid decisions, especially when it relates to his pride, OR relates to Jesse, because that shit blinds him to objectivity) But at least they hate the hell outta Walt, as a person. First time watchers are not beholden to giving everyone a chance. And people who watch a second time mostly forget their own first watches, and forget some of the initial opinions they had of the characters at specific points. I DO think if Jesse had actually gone through with selling to those rehab people, I would have judged him far more in the series, even if everything else happend the same way it did from there. (They also judge jesse for incapability far more than I think the average person does. Also a fair judgement when the thing they are doing is crime and they are at risk of death or imprisonment, but I personally am just much more likely to forgive incompetence than straight up immorality.

DKThunder

you have watches thousands of shows? I’m not sure you crunched those numbers right

Jacob

even years later to see how this episode is so polarizing is so fascinating to me..in my opinion this is an incredible episode w excellent writing (shoutout MOIRA and sam) amazing direction by rian johnson and of course masterful performances as usual

micah

One of my favorite lines in the whole series is when Jesse tells Walt "Lets be honest. We make poison for people who dont care." Which shows how hes able to be realistic on what they do while Walt can only see it as beautiful chemistry.

Daniel

Lmaoo if you wanna google it and look up what it means you’ll see you’ll prove yourself wrong. I’ve watched thousands of shows with actual fillers, this is not that

Simon

Exactly my point tho it’s not a filler 😂 a filler is a flashback that has to do with the main story just so the writes can work on the main story/ editing exc. for a bit or a random episode that has nothing to do with the story. This was none of those

Simon

It doesn’t really progress the plot. It’s a great reflection into Walt’s guilt but it doesn’t really move the story forward. It’s not really a “filler”, it’s a “bottle episode” because the show was low on their budget they needed an episode that was in one single location.

Aaron Boone

Yea I know a lot of people really really reach and try to say it’s a great episode but compared to the meat of the show it definitely is a filler. The creator of the show has even admitted that they had to have an episode take place in one location because they were low on their season budget. Still a good episode of tv but compared to what you are use to it’s easily the worst episode of the show.

Aaron Boone

agreed.. imagine people getting the bad karma equivalent to what they intentionally fucked others with to help themselves. phewee would be beautiful

Michael Nelson

One of my favorite episodes of the whole series!

Stanely Staemer

Walt was THIS close to admitting to Jesse that he LET Jane die. My heart was beating so fast during that scene. And finally seeing some raw emotions from Walt about Jane was very satisfying to me. It’s a fantastic moment that gets overshadowed by everyone’s complaints about the episode.

imperial

I love how everyone been calling this filler😂 do yall know what filler is?💀 can’t give that excuse for a slow, not so great episode let’s just call it what it is

Simon

Had to take the dog to the vet but I’m back and bout to grind these 2 episodes 🔥

Simon

You can still enjoy a show while hating the main characters though the show really hasn’t given me a reason to root for Walt or Jesse though so I see where Vince is coming from when it comes to Jesse because I can’t root for someone who continues to make terrible decisions and fuckups

Theo Sebuliba

“Series creator Vince Gilligan remarked: "We were hopelessly over budget ... And we needed to come up with what is called a bottle episode, set in one location." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_(Breaking_Bad)

Mack M

he’s been wrong on a lot of things and most guesses he gets right i feel like most people have guessed first listen including myself

Alex

Filler episodes are those that do not affect the plot in any way, this episode falls under the category of filler in that regard

Sean Carroll

So after saying it’s not a filler, you now agree it’s a filler?

Sean Carroll

ig i shouldn’t say root for but not like absolutely hate them like another show sopranos it’s all about criminals but it’s considered an amazing show you don’t see people hating on the main character tony soprano for being a bad person but everyone has their opinion and perspective

Alex

Maybe they just see the show differently than other people who watched it, remember it’s their first time watching this show as well as mine, so it’s just totally different perspectives I can’t really root for Walt and Jesse either tbh, they’re both criminals

Theo Sebuliba

yea i get it he’s done horrible things but that’s the point of the show is about criminals and the horrible things they do and the consequences they face i just find it surprising bc most people ik that have watched this and usually everyone roots for walt and jesse even tho they aren’t good people

Alex

Jesse's at his worst here. I was also like 'whoa, he deserves to break his neck?' Until I remembered that He is literally selling drugs to people trying to rehabilitate at this point in the story. I think Vince is justified, as much as it hurt my soul hearing him say those words.

DKThunder

I agree with this specifically. I was also thinking it was a filler until he almost confessed to Jesse. I forgot how important that scene is (in terms of defining who Walt is).

DKThunder

Aw thanks for the double drop! I really appreciate it!

jammybombs

Those fly strips Jessie bought are A1!! If yall ever have flies or any annoying ass flying bug in the house get those they work so damn good

Simon

What guesses?

Jamie

Definitely the loudest episode easily. Walt broke everything

All See’er

They both haven’t seen it all, very first time for both of them

Theo Sebuliba

Dan Sopranos

Im surprised yall have never heard of that tape they hung for the fly. Its very common in some countries

Tentomushi

Fun fact: that fly auditioned for the role of Walter White originally

Michael Pearce

Bros a D1 Jesse hater 😭

Alex

Yes it does it pushes the idea that Walt’s moment has passed and is crucial to his story

Mack M

Bottle episode too

Mack M

I wouldn’t call this a filler episode it’s called a BOTTLE episode because they saved money on other episodes by filmingg this in the lab with just Jesse and Walt. Filler episode is a skippable episode and this is not that

Mack M

Yes but that doesent mean its not good.

Mark

Thank you to everyone who said this was a filler episode and tricking them into reacting to two episodes :P Honestly, I think this is a really, really good episode. I get why people hate it but man, I have never once disliked a single minute of it out of the numerous times I've seen it.

Brian McG

In other words filler. This episode doesn’t affect the plot in any way

Sean Carroll

I can

Sean Carroll

Gus does not have a camera in Walt’s bedroom. The flashing light is just the fire alarm, most constantly flash to signify they are still functioning. They beep when low battery. The point of the ending was to say that the fly is in his head. What he did to Jane has been “bugging” him for a long time and still is because of the additional tragedies that followed. So difficult to interpret the symbolism in this show sometimes so I get the confusion.

Tori

Dey got what they deserve! : vince. Lol

Mark

massive L you can’t skip it

Alex

when vince said is it gonna be a whole episode of him trying to catch the fly😭😭 i was like just wait

Alex

Bruh y’all are mf goats 2 in a day?!

Simon

Just FYI, that's not a camera at the end, and Gus isn't recording/watching them that closely outside the lab. It's simply the blinking red light that most smoke detectors have. They're just showing that even though the physical fly in the lab is dead, the more metaphorical things it represents still haunt Walt (his guilt/fear/worry), which is why you see it flash on top of the red light for a moment (in Walt's imagination).

Jeff I.

Yall Season 4-5 just takes it to a whole other level

Insert Opinion

I totally agree with you Vince with your summation at the end of the episode. Another great reaction to an underrated episode by the both of you.

Chris Perry

Just finished getting caught up, thanks for the double upload

BeavZ

Not a filler episode at all. I love this episode. They had to save some cash so they did this episode. In TV Show industry they call this type of episode a day in the life episode. Tends to deal with smaller scale issues but still important.

Mark

they had to save enough of their budget for the finale so they had to shoot an episode in one spot the whole episode so this episode saved them money

Alex

the only reaction im gonna skip haha, hate this episode

Sean Carroll

Skyler's lullaby to Holly over the fly in the cold open is from Phoenix when Walt is watching the nature show about an elephant and her calf. A reminder of the innocent lives Walt's destroyed to get to where he's at now and the fly is representation for the guilt and skeletons that are following Walt's conscience. There are references to the fly throughout the whole series in the shots & in the music. One of the writers said he wanted the fly to have a "menacing presence". I believe Vince & Rian Johnson were paying homage to the 1986 Jeff Goldblum remake: 'The Fly'. You can't help but think of this episode while watching it. The fly is the reason for Seth's (the protagonist) downfall hence why Walt treats it as if it's so deadly to them. The fly is representation for the morally wrong decisions Walt's made that he can't shake free from. It wakes him up at night in the closing scene. It's to say he was or still partially is a "good man" at least enough to feel remorse. He came from a place of morals before the criminal lifestyle to a certain degree. The metal reaction vessels in the lab resemble the Telepods from the movie, the lab itself and it's high ceilings resemble it's industrial warehouse–esque set. Walt even says the fly is not Particularly dangerous to them. And "This fly is a major problem for us it will ruin our batch- we need to destroy it and every trace of it. Failing that... We're Dead". So much emphasis on the fly- as if the fly itself is deadly to them and not Gus. Seth is careless about the telepod machine's safety precautions after awhile, I like to think that's reflected when Walt finally says: "it's all contaminated" aside from accepting his fate. Jesse on top of the ladder could be an analogy for some kind of moral high ground while Walt holds onto it from down below, propping it up while struggling with Jane guilt. Walt asks Jesse what are the odds that he runs into Jane's father at the bar, which was part of the catalyst for Jane's tragedy sorta like what are the odds of a fly flying into the telepod with Seth? The fly was out of it's element like Walter is in this business. It reminds me of 0210 when after Walt gets done installing the new water heater Jr burns his hand from the hot water as if even when Walt tries to do good, bad things happen. Literally the theme. Walt says: "You want them to miss you, you want their memories of you to be..." good, is what he was thinking. Seth wasn't proud of his work and didn't necessarily want his lover to see what he had turned into... Seth had a genius brain with such a bright future ahead of him and good intentions but by mostly circumstance he turned into an unlovable, deplorable monster that would rather be dead then carry on- a lot like Walter- "Oh, if I had just lived right up to that moment... and not one second more". Jesse's opossum rant is referencing the two-sidedness of the characters and his story about the cancer spreading to his aunt's brain and changing her could also be a nod to the movie. Not to mention BB is all about Change, Metamorphosis and Assimilation.

Justin

“Fly” is actually a metaphorical episode about addiction a lot of hidden meanings. It’s directed as a one off from a third party director.
