At the time it was made the acting, imo, was spot on for the kind of film they were creating and for what they were trying to accomplish. This film revitalized the horror genre in the late 1990s. It merged the traditional slasher film with humor, intertwined with a clever plot. The characters were aware of horror film cliches & used them to survive. Wes Craven is the director and he is the creator of Nightmare On Elm Street. There are several easter eggs or throwbacks to previous horror films in this movie. I was a teenager in the 90's & this movie was fantastic. It had been a long time since a really great scary movie had been released. Scream ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 1996 & became the highest-grossing slasher film in the world for 22 years!!! It was finally surpassed by 2018's Halloween. And the sequel Scream 2 broke box-office records at the time and some people believe part 2 is even better than one. The Scream franchise is pretty great. I guess you just would've had to have been there to completely get it and appreciate it. I did thoroughly enjoy your reaction though. :)

Also the reason the horror works is because the director is Wes Craven one of the masters of horror. He did nightmare on elm street and a lot of other cult horror films. This revived his career as well as the slasher genre in general
