Walt enjoyed working with another chemist, but he had to stop Jesse from going after his brother-in-law & potentially getting himself killed, so he faked the mistake with Gale so he had an excuse to kick him out and take Jesse in. I mean use your head here man, Walt has an ego & pride, but he's not a stupid guy.

He doesn't show it often cause he enjoys how easily he can manipulate him, but he does care. If he really didn't give a shit about Jesse, he would have made one phone call to Gus and have him killed after he threatened to tell the DEA, but instead, he faked the mistake with Gale so he had an excuse to kick him out, and then took Jesse in so he could keep an eye on him and make sure he didn't do anything more stupid. And to all the people who think he actually got mad at Gale clearly has a short attention span. Walt liked the idea of working with another chemist, which is clearly shown the first time they cook together, but cause Jesse was about to go after his brother-in-law & eventually get himself killed, he has to kick Gale out.

This show often displays that Walt and Jesse—for all their differences—actually make a good team when it come to cooking.
