2024-02-05 18:53:56 +0000 UTCAs awful as the first Suicide Squad is, it’s important to see first, if for nothing else but to appreciate Rick Flagg’s arc here… He went from despising a team that he was forced to work with to embracing, caring for, and trusting this one deeply. The full stop of his apathy and disdain towards Harley Quinn in particular from the first movie compared to the smile and camaraderie he conveys to her as they walk into Jötunheim in this one is particularly sublime and palpable. I am so glad that DC put faith into James Gunn to make such an accurate adaptation to the source material compared to the first movie’s misfire, and I am supremely confident that the wider DCU is in the right hands with Gunn going forward…😌

It and this movie are really the only "DCEU" movies I've loved and rewatched a bunch. I think the rest are terrible, aside from WONDER WOMAN, which I liked alot, aside from the ending, which was sorta embarrassing.

Facts n such: Creator of the Suicide Squad, John Ostrander, is the scientist who puts a bomb in Savant's neck at the beginning of the film. It's ASSUMED that Weasel killed 27 children. They don't actually know, so I've heard. They promoted this movie with the cast that died at the beginning so the shock value would be stacked when you see them all die in the first 20min. And I gotta say outta all of the depictions of Amanda Waller that I've seen, Viola's performance is the most legit feeling. Duplicitous and grimy af in service of America, true to form all the way.

Some of the characters that appeared in the first movie also have a role here, but you didn’t really need to watch the first one because this movie is kind of its’ own thing. James Gunn has a habit of hiring the same actors across various projects that he works on. For example, you probably wouldn’t recognize him without the blue makeup but Michael Rooker portrayed Yondu in the Guardians movies before portraying Savant. Also, Weasel was portrayed by James’ brother Sean who was also Kraglin. Funny enough in a similar sense, some of the actors who had a role here would go on to appear in the Holiday Special and Volume 3. James also has a habit of making people laugh and pulling at their heartstrings as he has previously proven. With that said, my favorite funny moment was Bloodsport yelling “it’s your mom!!!” Overall, Bloodsport is my favorite character in this film. Why wouldn’t he be? It’s Idris Elba. He was also Heimdall. This movie paves the way to John Cena’s Peacemaker series. The first season is on HBO Max, and a second season is in the works. James plans to incorporate Peacemaker into the new generation of DC films along with the recent live-action Blue Beetle. And Shoshana, Viola Davis will also have her own Waller series in the future. Also, you win the bet. Sorry, Vince. Weasel survived.

She first appeared in 22nd episode, "Joker's Favor", on September 11, 1992 and originally was meant to be a one off character who was apart of Jokers gang but everyone loved her so much that she became Joker's partner in crime, an iconic couple was born. She became a returning character across the DCAU (DC Animated Universe) showing up in Superman: Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and even showing up in Justice League. All one big shared continuity like the MCU between animated shows and a few movies. This is the same continuity as Mask of the Phantasm the stand alone film you watched set in the DCAU or Earth 12. So you've already had a little taste of this shared Animated Universe DC had going on in the 1990s to 2000s predating the MCU and DCEU. Harley Quinn was then brought over into the comics in Batman: Harley Quinn #1 (October 1999) within DC's mainline canon pulling from the Animated Series origin story and slapping it into DCs Prime Earth, also known as Earth 0. Do recommend reading Batman: Harley Quinn #1 (1999) if you want a solid introduction to her character or just watch the amazing Batman Animated Series. The Suicide Squad themselves were introduced in The Brave and the Bold #25 (September 1959) the first rendition of the team. Then the second and modern version debuted in Legends #3 (January 1987). Harley herself wasn't a member until the New 52 reboot in September 2011 so it's an ever changing line up of villains and characters as naturally alot of them get killed off pretty fast.
