Also Mufaseh

Tahirah Shabazz

Definitely the innovator of this type of comedy. Love his stand up. Golden Child my favorite underrated movie of his. Also his music. And a star in Michael Jackson’s video with an all black cast.

Tahirah Shabazz

Beverly Hills cop too

Dylan Brooks

Boomerang another classic Eddie Murphy movie.

You guys have to watch coming 2 America now(sequel). Some people didn’t like it (you know old people and their nostalgia), but I enjoyed it.

Carmello

Do you guys have CAPTIONS on? If so, why?

Mr. Reggie

Coming to America: a romantic comedy with an almost exclusively Black cast which enjoyed great mainstream success. Crazy Rich Asians (2018): ditto, but with East-Asians. (Slightly more romance and drama instead of comedy.) If you haven't seen the second, you could give it a shot.

Speaking of James Earl Jones, I am reminded of "Cry, the Beloved Country" (1995), a drama based on a classic novel set in apartheid South Africa. It is not a fun popcorn movie, but Jones and the great Richard Harris on their own make it worthwhile watching. (It is very easily available, hint hint. :-) )

Happy Hanukkah

The great James Earl Jones. Even more amusing is that Madge Sinclair, the queen in this movie, plays Sarabi in The Lion King. The royal couple re-united. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Fun fact. The King James Earl Jones was actually the original Darth Vader voice actor in Star Wars.

SavageDiplomat

The father is the actor who voices Mufasa in lion King his voice is so distinctive lol . I really love this movie great reaction .

If you're interested in an earlier movie with an actor playing multiple roles, you can try the truly classic Dr. Strangelove from 1964. It's a black (not Black! :-) ) comedy with the talented Peter Sellers. (Several reaction channels have done it already.) [Written before I saw Mitchell's comment.]

Eddie Murphy gets a lot of justified praise for this movie, but let's put in a word for James Earl Jones. I love his gleefully lecherous delivery of "I know I do" (21:08), and his take on tying shoelaces (9:50) is subtly hilarious. It is as if he had long been led to believe that tying one's shoelaces is an enjoyable experience, and is still deeply disappointed by the experience and offended at having been deceived. (And a shout-out to the telegraph woman (Elaine Kagan) who makes the most of her short scene. (1:18:55))

Peter Sellers played multiple roles in Dr. Strangelove (1964), and I know Richard Pryor (a big influence on Eddie and just about every comedian that followed him) played multiple roles in his 1977 film, Which Way is Up? It was done cleverly in this movie, but it became a crutch that Eddie would fall back on too often (my opinion) once his film choices started to dip in quality in the early 90s. When Eddie broke out in the early 80s, he was a comedy wunderkind. From 82 to 92, as a comedian and an actor, he was among the biggest names in Hollywood. For whatever reason, his projects from that point forward became more low brow (again, just my opinion) and he lost a lot of the charm and edge that made him a star. That said, the two 48s Hrs. films are worth a watch, Trading Places, Harlem Nights (wasn't a huge success, but Richard Pryor, Eddie and Redd Foxx all starring in the same film is definitely worth a watch) and the first two Beverly Hill Cop films. Those two films showed that Eddie could be an action star while retaining his comedy chops. No idea why he didn't pursue more projects like that.

Mitchell Smilie

Great movie. Eddie was a pioneer in comedy films and stand up. We gotta get you guys to watch beverly hills cop.

Mark

It won’t hit the same as you didn’t grow up with the original but Eddie did a sequel to this called Coming 2 America. It’s decent and worth a watch. But as others have said if you liked Eddie Murphy then check out the Beverly Hills Cop movies.

I have a fun fact!!! Almost 30 minutes in, right when Akeem and Semmi get to Queens...billed as "kid getting haircut" is a young Cuba Gooding Jr. I used to watch this one over and over again in High School because the censored version was constantly on somewhere. It wasn't until college that I ever saw the uncensored version. Loved it!

Jessi

omg you guys should start watching Beverly Hills cop it has Eddie Murphy as the main character :)

Reece 🍉

you beat me to it! NICE

Mark W

The old white Jewish guy in the barber shop was Eddie Murphy in heavy makeup.

MotoDork

🔥🔥Eddie Murphy in the 80’s to 90’s was undefeated…& the fact that the royal family made the Waldorf put up their nations flag in front of the hotel while they stay there is hilarious to me

TC24

FYI those two homeless guys that said "we're back" are from another movie called trading places with eddie murphy. in that movie they were the bad guys
