I particularly like the scene where the guy was literally "ran out on a rail". I bet it shocked a lot of people to learn that wasn't just a saying from back then, it was done to people the townsfolk didn't like. :)

I'm begging you guys to check out 'Promising Young Woman'

Patrick Munley

As a southerner, I appreciate how respectful the Coen Brothers were of the unique culture of the Depression-era South, particularly the music. This film played a big part in introducing many young people (myself included) to the "old, weird America" of pre-war blues, folk, country and gospel music that makes up the majority of the soundtrack. The soundtrack winning a Grammy also kickstarted, for better or worse, the "Americana Revival" roots music trend that has arguably reached its saturation point at this late date, but nonetheless produced many great artists in its wake. Obviously, there was a lot of ugliness on display in the region during the Depression, but the Coen Brothers decided instead to focus on the beauty always prevalent among the ugliness, and you walk away feeling grace instead of shame. One of many reasons the Coen Brothers remain among my favorite filmmakers.

you kinda have to know the Odyssey by Homer to get some of the people in the movie.....The bible salesman is the Cyclopes, the three women were the sirens that made sailors wreck their ships as they sang, and calling himself the Polyphemus, was the cave they escaped from. And as Odysseus rerured home he had to fight off the "suitors" that were trying to wed his wife.

Iโ€™m very proud to share my home commonwealth of kentucky with George Clooney.
