I think John Walker is the perfect example of what Erskine meant when he told Steve not to be the perfect soldier, but a good man. Walker is not and was never a "bad person". He was a perfect soldier. He served his country by following orders and he did it well. He's just a man who tried to do the right thing and sadly he made major mistakes along the way "This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows compassion" -Erskine

Isaiah’s story is heartbreaking, and very realistic of how a black super soldier would be treated in those days. And Sam’s hesitance to take up the mantle of Captain America as a black man just feels very real, even in present-day America. I just personally love the added racial aspect to this story, I think it makes it even more powerful when Sam finally takes up the shield and title as Captain America.

2023-09-05 22:57:10 +0000 UTCI really like John Walker because even with his fits of rage and clearly being an unstable person, you also feel for him from time to time. I believe for his charcter, he's a guy trying to do the right thing overall, but being Captain America was never in the cards for him

2023-09-05 21:09:04 +0000 UTCIdk if u guys realized or not. but Isaiah did the same expect thing Steve did in his first movie. Breaking out those soldiers and bringing them home. But Steve was welcomed back as a hero and Isaiah got locked up.

2023-09-05 17:12:26 +0000 UTCThe next episode is great! I cannot wait to see your reaction to it. Very satisfying. Of all the Disney shows, this one, to me, has the most layered message. What does it mean to be Captain America? John Walker, who seems to be a good man, was not fit to be Captain America. Isaiah Bradley because of his experience wouldn't want to take up the mantle. Bucky, while physically capable, has been tainted by his years as a weapon of Hydra. You even see in this episode, Sam, stepping forward to heal/advise/inspire Bucky and others. (There's a better example of this next episode.) It's fun to rewatch these through the lens of your experience. You guys are crushing it on turning out this content.

2023-09-05 15:31:26 +0000 UTCIsaiah's story is based on the Tuskegee syphilis experiment. Shit went on from 1932-1972 which is fucking insane: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_Syphilis_Study
