Full Metal Jacket - Vietnam era is portrayed. The opening 30 minutes or so are an in edible acting job / especially by R. Lee Ermey - who was actually a Marine Corp D.I. and served in Vietnam before he got into acting

When they aimed at him and pulled the trigger, the gun jammed, allowing time for Desmond to get to cover. The whole story is truly amazing and I bet most people wouldn't believe a lot of it because of how unbelievable it is.
