[YT Edit] The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" which will premiere shortly!

[YT Edit] The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Comments

I actually saw the Swedish movie first, for two reasons: 1. it was free on Amazon Prime, 2. I say check out the original first. The remake pretty much follows the original and the cast is stellar. Some of the scenes (in both) are disturbing. Like Cassie, I kinda want to check out the books too. I probably should have done that first as well.

Stephen Dias

Seen the original don't think I have seen this one. .Like the original Nikita was better the one with Briget Fonda although good to.

Welcome! I usually only watch on a desktop computer, with two windows side by side. YouTube player and Amazon Prime seem to work the fastest with less glitching.

Chris Thom

Hi all, I’m pretty new here. Can someone please explain how to full watch works. It says you need the movie and sync it up. So are you watching the movie on a main screen then the Full reaction in like a phone or tablet next to you kind of thing. I like the ease of the YT edits but I feeling like I want more. :) For those that do, any thoughts or suggestions. Thx in advance.

Dan

When she threw the leather jacket in the trash, I felt for her but couldn't help but think I wouldn't mind having that jacket.

Clay F

Was Peter Hoeg a famous author before the Millennium series came out?

Chris Thom

For the readers out there, Smilla Jaspersen from Peter Høeg's "Smilla's Sense of Snow" is the literary aunt, if not mother, of Lisbeth Salander. Similar nordic setting with even more similar corporate and state slithering behind the scenes , but this book pre-dated The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by about 12 years. Incredibly well written (even in translation, which is an art, not a science) and the plot flies along. Julia Ormond played the character in the movie, but she was supposed to be 1/2 Inuk/Inuit, which critics faulted her on the casting (which is not her problem - talk to the studio/producers on that one). It's a good movie on its own, but as with most, can't hold a candle to the book. The big limitation was that the plot and dialogue could not capture the inner dialogue and mystery-solving abilities of Smilla and the pace of the book's action all in 2 hours. I heard there was a TV series which I must see now, but if you liked/loved "The Girl" series, you will likely feel the same for Smilla, who is a character who will live in your mind long after you close the book. Also, Høeg's prose is a step above Larsson's, with a deft use of description and a real talent for dialogue and plot.

Where is the full watch along? I love this movie

Jonathan Martin

I say once a quarter

REWATCH REACTION = GWH I think a Cassie rewatch reaction of a movie once a year is just fine, if she doesn't remember the movie and/or if a first watch for Carly. Movies that were on in the house 20 years ago with her as a teen and distracted, not paying attention. Stellan Skarsgård = awesome actor. Great in Chernobyl and Good Will Hunting. Seems like Cassie would like to rewatch react to GOOD WILL HUNTING which she doesn't remember. That's my No. 1 request for Cassie rewatch reaction, especially if Carly hasn't seen it. I would also be happy with Forrest Gump, Moneyball, Bourne Identity, or the Nolan Batman trilogy (which she doesn't remember). She wants to rewatch react to Moneyball -- she included Moneyball rewatch as a poll candidate (finished 3rd out of 10 choices). I think she would also like to rewatch react to the Bourne Identity. Again, we are only talking once a year. Good for the channel.

Clay F

I remember that hilarious SNL skit.

LOL.

Chris Thom

sorry but had to post this snl skit lol

What short horror films do you recommend?

Grad

He’s fantastic in “In Order of Disappearance.”

Just Plain Bob

Thanks for the reaction! Just two quick notes: 1) Stellan Skarsgaard is not always the bad guy, fortunately; he is brilliant, charming and good in "Mamma Mia" (wonder if you have watched that movie?). 2) Plus do check out the film "Carol" where Rooney Mara shines alongside Cate Blanchett🤩

Signe Urdskilde

Indecent Proposal (1993) is an interesting one. But if the idea is to celebrate Redford specifically, The Way We Were might be the way to go. Ordinary People also a classic. But he just directed that. Don't remember if he made an appearance or not.

Chris Thom

Yes, the full reaction will be available later at the $10 watch-a-long tier, same as all movies. EB tier watch-a-longs allow before and after discussions. Some months it's a hangout only and some months a watch-a-long.

Joe J

Question about the Extra Butter watch-along for The Fly: Will it be available to watch as a regular full reaction later, or is the live the only opportunity to watch it?

Aaron Ritchie

I recently posted a suggestion that Cassie add scary short films and spooky themed music videos to her repertoire for October. These would constitute extra reaction(s) each week (only one or two each week at 5-7 minutes each). This was, in part, a reaction to the fact that fans of scary movies will be losing four of 12 or 13 possible reactions this spooky season to GoT. But I was more motivated by a desire to see the season made FUN again. The last couple of years it’s seemed as though Cassie has regarded the October reactions as something to be endured. I’ve also seen several suggestions for a limited number of reactions to the Twilight Zone tv series. I think this is a terrific idea. Not only is it one of the greatest tv series of all time, but it’s mild enough to warrant a sisters’ reaction.  I’ve already seen a half dozen suggestions for episodes worthy of a reaction as well as posting a couple of suggested episodes myself. At only 25 minutes per episode, Cassie could easily react to four or five episodes and bundle them as a single reaction. The bottom line is, how can we as a community help to make this more fun for Cassie and ourselves?  Some suggestions/ideas: *React to a limited number short films and/or spooky music videos *React to Twilight Zone or other limited spooky tv shows (Tales from the Crypt and Tales from the Darkside spring to mind) *Have one or two location reactions (such as watching Blair Witch Project in the backyard or woods) *A ghost hunt video reaction (or, better, the sisters could record themselves on a ghost tour or hunt) Please, if you’re interested in any of these ideas or have some of your own, respond to this post and let Cassie know what you think. If you think it’s a terrible idea and I’ve lost my remaining marbles, say that, too (but be nice, I’m fragile). PS: I may post this message, or something similar, to more than one reaction. I don’t intend this as a spamming exercise but just in the hopes that Cassie sees it. If she likes these ideas or any other ideas that y’all put toward, GREAT! If not, no harm done - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I leave you with this Carly-safe short video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ-Ac_8SEh8

Time for everybody to think of ones for a Robert Redford poll, I nominate 3 Days of the Condor, Brubaker, Ordinary People( as director).

John

It's also just the first in the series. So it was always bound to be anticlimactic. I wish Fincher did all three. With an animated intro for each.

Chris Thom

Such a bummer to not have somewhere to converse. Sometimes you don't appreciate something adequately until it's gone.

Chris Thom

my favorite remark when you recognize actors: "I'm getting good guys."

James Melton

Her reaction has me rereading the books

Cole Jennett

Her polls rarely include more than 8 films, so I do expect some to be left off. I think Three Days of the Condor and Brubaker are the heavy favorites.

Joe J

I don't think I saw whatever it was that sparked the disabling of the comments. I can't help but wonder what it was. Good comment, Mark. Seconded here.

bgb1975 (Brian)

I never saw this one - I think I saw the foreign version. And I actually did read the books. I don't read a lot. The books were really good!

bgb1975 (Brian)

The RR poll may already be created but just in case not: "Our Souls at Night" (2017) (romance) [RT=91%]. Think you would like. "Brubaker" (1980). Liked this movie as young adult in the early 80s. "The Horse Whisperer" (1998) w/13-year-old Scarlett Johansson. "An Unfinished Life" (2005) w/Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Lopez.

Cassie, thanks for this YT edit (which I will watch this evening) I bet this was a tricky watch for you! Regarding the weekly Update, you have said or done nothing wrong! People just need to learn restraint and have empathy and understanding how close to home this is for you. Being the person you are, sensitive, kind, compassionate and fiercely protective over your family, of course you would feel like talking about this. Your openness is one of the things which make you so watchable. You should be able to mention this without it turning political. But, I guess this is where we are now! Thank you for the update and I can’t wait for Duel!!! So Excited!!! Take care of yourself my dear. You are the best ❤️

Mark White

Frustrated to see Cassie was forced to disable comments on the upcoming post. Follow the rules people. It’s not rocket science. 😠

Luke Godfrey

I’m guessing the coming up post, the comments got a bit too political and out of hand as it’s been turned off. If you’re still feeling a bit sad, I’d still recommend swapping In the Name of the Father with something a bit lighter like a comedy. I think it’s a incredible film but it’s a tough watch and not really something I’d suggest to someone who feels a bit down. I’m sure everyone would understand.

Dean Holt

It’s not a bad idea, but I personally think it might be better for her to watch a couple of Twilight Zone episodes of just split up a Tales from to crypt movie. There’s also some great Fan made films that are quite short, like never hike alone. But she would need to watch the Jason movies first before going into them.

Dean Holt

I don’t mean to pry but what happened? Is everything ok?

Stan the Man

Three Days of the Condor 1975 Robert Redford

I was just watching Rob Zombie’s music video for his song “Dragula” and had an idea for Cassie’s Halloween viewing. Since horror movie fans are losing four reactions this October to GoT, what if she provided a couple of extra reactions each week - to spooky short films and horror themed music videos? Since they only average about five minutes apiece, it wouldn’t require much time at all. To avoid issues with editing, I’d recommend reacting to short films and music videos that are routinely reacted to in their entirety by other reactors. For starters, I’d suggest Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video. It’s soft enough that even Carly could easily stand it. I’d move on to “Dragula” and other Rob Zombie fare and start the short films with “The Facts in the Case of Mr. Hollow” for the short films. The Mr. Hollow short film is a particular favorite of mine because it’s quite different. The entire story is told thru the shifting perspective of a still photo, set to some of the most atmospheric music I’ve ever heard. ROFL.... Cassie is so much like me, an eternal optimist hopeless romantic. She hates the end because they didn't end up together and she had already shipped them in her mind. (as had I) They were really good together too. He trusted her implicitly (not that he had much of a choice as she knew him better than he knew himself) but he was honest & upfront with her, never taking advantage of her and respecting her abilities.

Mark Schamber

Here’s something completely different for Halloween viewing. Twenty-four years ago, a limited run tv series called “Hellsing” was released on dvd. It’s an anime series based on the manga of the same name. They hadn’t concluded the story in the books, so the tv producers had to come up with their own ending. A decade later, “Hellsing Ultimate” was released. It’s my understanding that it’s much closer to the source material (not reading Japanese, I have to take their word for it). Regardless, I love the original and wanted to (futilely) recommend it for a reaction. Someone posted the entire series in a single 4.5 hr video on YouTube, making it easy to see. Here’s the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NNt8FeJcEJQ&t=4901s

Honestly, this place has been a sanctuary when the horribleness of the world has been too much.

Cassie -The original Swedish version has two sequels

Richard Maurer

Yes she did. I thought skipping to the new one meant she was passing on them, but I think she was saying that the timing was just better for the channel and views to do it sooner than later.

Chris Thom

Thanks, Cassie. It’s been a tough several days for many of us. I just wanted to say that you being there and offering these reactions have offered an escape when I, and I’m sure many others here, needed it. Thank you for that and your smiles. Prayers and hugs.

Above Average Dave

Thank you I had no clue and I love this movie. Definitely checking that out.s

Timminson

Yes , this was only the first book. If you want to continue the series, try the Swedish versions for the rest of the journey.

David Nesbit

+1

Uncle Phoenix

Cassie confirmed on the YT premiere she will be watching both Justice League (Snyder cut), and Woman Woman.

Joe J

I’m reading the book now for the first time in awhile and Michael is easily the main character for the first half of the book

Cole Jennett

Insane movie. Have to be ready for this one 🫣

Louis Chapman

I slightly prefer this 2011 remake over the 2009 original.

Clay F

planning on still doing it on the channel

Cassie

God what a movie. Every time I see it. So good

Timminson

good call! on it!

Cassie

Watching Dragon Tattoo Girl with the guys!!

Celeste McAllister🍓

Sad you only watch this version. It's lousy. Watch the swedish original you will get the cooperation you asked for. And you will get the full story. If you see the full swedish trillogy. The story is about Lisbeth and the first film is just to introduce all the characters. Hollywood filmcompanys screwed up the negotiations so they didn't get the rights to do the full story. Therefore there will në be any sequels to this film.

Mattias Ljungberg

I favor the Swedish version. Mikael and Lisbeth start working together a lot soon, and spend a lot more time together.

David Ulrich

I think the Letterbox collection is REALLY overdue for an update... I see a lot of films missing just from among those that you have reacted to in the past, much less movies that you've referenced seeing in your reactions that aren't called out. Normally it wouldn't really matter, but a lot of people rely on that list being up to date when making their monthly picks!

Story Archer

Didn't get a chance to mention... "Duel" is fantastic. Hope you guys love it!

James Melton

Joe J

The opening animation with the music is so cool. Trent Reznor and his compositions have been pretty solid in movies. The sound of the new Tron trailer is neat too.

Chris Thom

That was such a crazy movie; I hope they add a Trauma Disclaimer to the reaction of the movie.

Uncle Phoenix

"I forgot to ask you.... you like **** ***?" Maybe we're just callous, but my brother and I have laughed so hard at that before. Remember people it's just a movie
