Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for "Sin City" which will premiere shortly!

[YT Edit] Sin City (2005)

Comments

A belated thank you for watching the original theatrical version.

Happy Hanukkah

Cassie is right its a bananas film. Lol. But I enjoyed the visual style of it. Not in my top 10 though, but great genuine reaction. Well done for watching it.

Kevin O'Donnell

Should be in the 75k range in say 3 days, like Thunderbolts. This is excellent engagement now in 2025.

Joe J

Sin City is at 58k views on YouTube in a little over a day. Glad it’s doing well for her.

Richard Maurer

"..it's pretty damn weird to eat people." Leading to a line I never thought I'd hear from Cassie: "I'm with Marv!" :-) That religiously-cadenced "last rites" is inspired. ... Sorry. I meant it is deplorable. Don't it make you want to shoot whoever wrote it?? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401792/characters/nm0588340/

Happy Hanukkah

I love the visual style. Carla Gugino is stunningly beautiful. I like how the movie visualizes Alexis Bledel, etc. I love the dialogue and narration. Marv = my favorite character. "I want to reach over and taste Goldie's sweat one more time." "..it's pretty damn weird to eat people." Priest: ...ask yourself if that corpse of a slut is worth dying for. Marv: Worth dying for. [shoots priest] Marv: Worth killing for. [shoots priest again] Marv: Worth going to hell for. [shoots priest again] Marv: Amen. I am glad I voted for this movie in the poll and it won.

Clay F

Nah, she should skip straight to Sin City 3! (Directed by Sofia Coppola.)

Happy Hanukkah

Cassie you should watch Sin City 2 now!

Richard Maurer

Yeah I feel like people sometimes forget her tastes... I could have told her this just isn't her taste at all

Ella Phillips

Indeed it does. I can understand people suggesting great but difficult films like "Chinatown" or "Blue Velvet" but why people persist in pushing this sort of stuff I don't know. There's nothing here except shocking levels of fetishistic violence shown with stylized comic-book visuals.

James Melton

"Sin City" is an adaptation of a comic by Frank Miller. He was the man behind "The Dark Knight Returns" Batman comic and "300" the graphic novel inspired by the Battle of Thermopylae (though not really close to the historical events in any way). All of those were adapted into movies but this one captures quite accurately the comic work of Miller. IMO: Miller's comics are extremely violent and graphic and lack any sense of redemption. They are horror works where the victims are as vicious as the attackers and no one is saved or even really survives. They border on sadistic voyeurism as a form of entertainment. "Sin City" the movie is basically the same thing.

James Melton

I'd like to see more comic book adaptations made this way. Especially Frank Miller's Batman.

Kiss the Librarian

I just heard your guess as to what this is about... and I feel for you and what you are about to have to deal with, honestly I do. I think maybe there should be a whole category of "I like this movie and you can watch it, but I sort of think you may not enjoy it."

James Melton

When she said that my first thought was “Jackpot!”. And I was right, because I really enjoy Cassie’s out of her comfort zone reactions. Most people seem to enjoy Cassie’s LotR reaction, what they forget was that LotR was outside her comfort zone back then, at least for most of Fellowship anyway.

Richard Maurer

Putting it another way, the movie doesn't seek to tell one big multi-threaded story; think of it rather as "Tales of Sin City."

Happy Hanukkah

"I can honestly say I've never seen anything like this." Mission accomplished! :-) But the good news :-) is that now that you've seen it, you don't need to watch the sequel. (IMO: more of the same, but not nearly as good. (And no, it doesn't continue the characters' stories.))

Happy Hanukkah

My old Favorite PIB moment was Cassie cheering, “Mexico, Mexico,…” at the end of Shawshank. My New Favorite PIB moment is Cassie mumbling, “That’s what she said.” near the end of “Sin City”.

Uncle Phoenix

Agreed. Eps 3-4 of GoT also had a much better edit length for each episode. Ben is listening to our feedback. Looking at many past reactions, I see the optimal reaction times mostly fell in the 38-43 minute range (actual reaction times). Actual reaction times with Carly tend to be even longer, which is a bonus for sure.

Joe J

After all the complaints about truncated edits recently (me included), it's important to say that this was a great edit. Perfect length, story flowed very well, no complaints at all. Thank you Matt.

Clarence Newman

Had a feeling Cassie may not favor this one. It's a cousin of PULP FICTION in its DNA, which was not among her faves, only much more visceral.

Above Average Dave

You got a touch of the Morbids don'tcha?

Chris Thom

You’re correct. Like a waste basket it’s a indispensable part of life.

Richard Maurer

An Absolute 🗑️ movie.

Alex Gorell

Josh Hartnett as a contract serial killer is quite the conundrum.

Chris Thom

Didn't watch the full reaction, so I'm looking forward to this. Don't know much about the film, but I've heard there's a little yellow character in some of the scenes. Having seen how adorable the yellow folk are in The Simpsons, Minions, Tweety Pie and Spongebob, Cassie should be in for a treat. I may get her a little doll of him to help her through the October reactions.

Clarence Newman

Your analysis jibes with my sentiments on the film.

Chris Tucker

It’s also very strongly hinted at that the blonde woman that Hartnett killed at the beginning hired him to do so. In his voice over he says he’ll cash her check in the morning, implying she hired him to commit her own murder.

Just Plain Bob

Sin City was sort of a "universe" that Frank Miller created for DC comics Darkhorse imprint. This movie was an amalgamation of (I think) 3 of those stories. The fact that they all took place in the same universe is really the only thing that joins the 3 stories. Frank Miller pretty much created the "dark knight" Batman that we all know. 300 was also another Frank Miler story.

Code Monkey

Good one.

Chris Thom

This one is a real gem. Another neo noir I highly recommend is Dark city (1998).

Kawaii Leonard

Glad you get a win with this one Richard. Sometimes our wins are few and far between, lol.

Joe J

Full reaction was posted August 19th.

Chris Thom

Great Film. A lot better than many of the films that get watched here.

Richard Maurer

Kudos to you for slogging through this tripe, Cassie! This movie makes Howard the Duck look like an oscar winner!

bgb1975 (Brian)

Marv: "I love hitmen. No matter what you do to them, you don't feel bad."

Clay F

At the beginning and end, Josh Hartnett is an assassin for hire. The opening scene establishes it; the final scene is that he's been hired to take out the girl who betrayed the Girls of Old Town. Also, you HAVE seen this style before, in 300! Both movies are adaptations of Frank Miller's comics, and both films drew very heavily on his artistic style, so much that both movies just used the comics as story boards, and both are considered as their respective comic made into a live action film.

J.D. Montgomery

Where is A.i?

Stan the Man

For September, we could have had Lost in Translation and Wonder Woman, but instead will be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Accountant. We have the dark BvS possible on Sep 1 or 2.

Clay F

Let us pick a few nice wholesome movies for Cassie for September. She needs a little beak before October.

TheSingulatarian

Not even Josh Hartnett could save this movie for Cassie.
