To Catch A Thief (1955) - Full Reaction

Classics did it first! I know this shouldnt be a surprise to me but I loved the romantic banter and longing all with a mystery unfolding. These are sure beautiful people and this was so fun to watch with Carly!

Wow, Cass, you and Carl missed it. When CG sat in the bus next to the lady with the birds, and they showed the guy sitting next to CG, the older guy? That was Hitchcock.

The term "cat burglar" comes from the agile, cat-like climbing ability of a specific burglar named Arthur Edward Young, who was nicknamed "the cat burglar" by the media in 1907. The term was first used in a London newspaper to describe his skill at climbing into upper-story windows.

This is a Hitchcock. Please put it in the Hitchcock collection.

Cary Grant was British-born and was asked to play James Bond, but he didn’t want a multi picture deal

Darren Harrison

She had to pay a dowry of $2 million (roughly $20 million today) and give up her film career to become Princess of Monaco

I don’t know if you know this Cassie but Grace Kelly ,like me, was born and raised in Philadelphia . She is what we call “Old Money” Her family the Kelly’s go back a long way in Philadelphia Old money refers to their sophistication Wealth is passed down from generation to generation they are not in the new money class your people to get rich from a business entire or other activities. She met and married Prince Rainier of the fairytale principality of Monaco . Her daughters Princess Stephanie and Caroline were equally Gorgeous. You have to watch. ” High Society” she is fantastic in that movie and it’s a lot more fun

Speaking of Cary Grant: "An Affair to Remember" (This has to be the greatest tearjerker in film history [well, if you don't include "Old Yeller"]), "The Philadelphia Story" (includes Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart), "Operation Petticoat" (in which Tony Curtis adds to the fun), "The Bishop's Wife" (great for Christmas time), "Houseboat", "That Touch of Mink" (with Doris Day)

I thought that was kind of cute. A cat burglar has a bird on one side of him and Alfred Hitchcock sitting on the other side of him. You need to start looking for Alfred Hitchcock in all of his movies; he always makes that cameo.

Fantastic reaction, ladies! Favorite sister moment: Thinking it's a rom-com, Carly learns it's a Hitchcock film and is suddenly very unsure of things. Cassie: "But it's in France, on the Rivera!" Carly, the look on your face @3:52! "Nothing bad happens in France?!?" Have you even seen a woman who combines such beauty, elegance, flirtatiousness, and intelligence as Francie? How could *any* (single) man resist that woman!?! And as you say, her wardrobe is absolutely *stunning*! Of course, that woman could make a old T-shirt and a pair of sweat pants look like a million dollars... Random observations: * Hitchcock did the quick cameo thing long before Stan Lee. That's him next to Cary Grant in the back seat of the bus! * When they're "casing" the first villa, Francie says, "Palaces are for royalty." How ironic for the future Princess Grace! * Carly getting nervous when someone drives too fast! * Probably my favorite line: "The Cat's got a new kitten." 😁 And the final line is the piece de resistance: "Oh, mother will love it up here!" 🤣

+1 for "His Girl Friday"

Cary Grant films to watch: "His Girl Friday", "Charade", "Father Goose". I think this list would all be Carly-friendly films.

James Melton

For another cool European crime caper/romance starring Cary Grant you can’t go past Charade. For another light hearted Alfred Hitchcock, The Trouble with Harry (starring Shirley MacLaine), is a thing of joy.

Such a fun romp and clever dialogue! I burst out laughing at Carly’s jaw dropping when Grace first kissed CG. She looked like a goddess in that blue gown. Notice he had her lipstick on his lips? Then he wiped it off as he walked away. Grant hated makeup which is why he kept himself tanned so he didn’t have to wear much. This is a nice break from heavier movies/shows.

Catherine LW

Of course this movie is the whole inspiration for The Pink Panther, the comedy about a bumbling French detective chasing a charming, suave ladies man cat burglar.

MikeLL

We would riot if High Society is watched before The Philadelphia Story.

MikeLL

'High Society' would be my next Grace Kelly recommendation - or 'High Noon'
