Great movie.... another good cyclist movie is American Flyers.

McShades

Breaking Away 1979. I've been trying to get reactors to watch this movie but no one has. Can you get it in the voting rotation?

James

I’m looking forward to it as well, I think Cassie may throw in a few surprises. I’ve got a feeling for Dirty Harry maybe?!!

Mark White

Looking forward to Cassie's Picks Poll. Glad won by 42 votes. The +42 votes is more than 10% of the votes that 90s Action received.

Clay F

The app has changed?

Chris Thom

Just went on Popcorn Requests and got a message saying it’s in beta and to report any bugs. Looks like we’re finally getting that update.

Richard Maurer

Youtube was sending me random clips of that this summer. Was wondering what the hell it was from. Had no idea Ringo was an actor. Lol

I just started watching Caveman (1981) in my gym tonight. It stars the one and only Ringo Starr (drummer in some obscure Scouse band), John Matuszak of the Oakland Raiders (mad bastid), Barbara Bach from The Spy Who Loved Me (Ringo took her home afterwards), but also Dennis Quaid and a very cute Shelley Long! I'm about 30 minutes in and I believe it to be ka-ka.

As a layman, Richard, monster movies to me would be King Kong, Godzilla, and other HUGE beasties. I wouldn’t even include The Creature From The Black Lagoon.

No matter what choices in a Pollception, 80s/90s action (if included) will always win. A voting plurality (not majority) force feed more 80s/90s action down our throats. Other genres don't stand a chance. No reason to do a Pollception if 80s/90s action is included -- instead just simply have an 80s/90s action poll and skip the Pollception. Here, 90s action wins b/c it a close 2nd and thus surely gets a poll? No way to escape, except if not included in the Pollception. Why have a Pollception if the outcome is in effect pre-determined? We all know that 80s/90s action will receive the winning plurality (not majority) of votes. Thus, the winning minority determines for the majority of patrons -- each and every time for 80s/90s action.

Some of the poll choices need to be better defined also. Jon Johns (a Mod!) asked for the monster poll to be better defined. If a mod isn’t sure what the poll is about how are the regular patrons supposed to know? The Apocalyptic poll was confusing quite a few people too. A brief description after the poll title would have helped. While being better defined probably wouldn’t have saved these polls, being confusing certainly didn’t help them either.

Although it is no longer leading, there are plenty of action movies already mentioned with the likes of "Ronin" which is bit classier than most in the 90s, or "The Last Boy scout" or "Long kiss goodnight" from Shane Black, among many others of the more obvious ones. However, there are a few that may not get the love but wirth a mention: * "Blown Away" - Tommy Lee Jones and Jeff Bridges. * "Point of No Return" aka "The Assassin" - Bridget Fonda, Gabriel Byrne, remake of "Nikita" which was also from the 90s. * "Passenger 57" - early, if not the first, star vehicle for Wesley Snipes. * "Assassins" - Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Julian's Moore and Richard Donner ("Lethal Waapon", "Superman") and written by the Wachowskis ("The Matrix"). * "The Hard Way" - Michael J. Fox, James Woods, and directed by John Badham ("Wargames"). * "Toy Soldiers" - stars a hobbit, (Sean Astin), Wil Wheaton ("Wesley Crusher") and Louis Gossett Jr. * "The Rocketeer" - technically an action movies from the 90s, according to Google, just aimed at a younger audience. Got a look of interest after "The Aviator" due to the Howard Hughes link. It surprised me that I didn't see "Bad Boys" in any of the comments I read, thought it would have been mentioned a fair bit. Not really advocating for it, but it is surprising. Not really an action movie, more suspense/thriller, but I will suggest it when I get the opportunity... "Arlington Road" with Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins.

Monster movies! I have high hopes for "The Monster Squad"...

I don't suppose we could get Kpop demon hunters on a poll? I want to see Cassie and Carly react to the boys...

Maisie

This poll seems to have divided the patrons. The best way to bring us all together would be to watch Horror of Dracula, obviously. Haven’t done one of those in a while - feels good.

Richard Maurer

I went with Cassie's Picks because it's still going to be a poll and there should be something good there. Also I'd like to see what will be on the list... and hopefully I'll be familiar with maybe half of the titles? That'd be the game 🙂

Mannygogou

It kind of sums up my general track record in Cassie’s polls that the ones I voted for are the bottom three.

I'd love to see Cassie react to the entire DC Animated Universe. It wouldn't even take her that long to get through it—most episodes are just 20–30 minutes, and it's nowhere near as massive as the Star Trek universe, lol. I'm not sure how she feels about animated content, though. I know I've mentioned this universe in the chats recently, and from what I've seen, she's only reacted to a handful of animated stuff. I do know she's already reacted to one entry to it—Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993). This universe might have been aimed at a younger audience, but it's surprisingly mature and packed with incredible storytelling—especially when it comes to two of my favorite heroes, Superman and Batman. It dives deep into their worlds, along with the Justice League and so many great supporting characters, giving me backstories I never knew from the comics, the Richard Donner Superman movies with Christopher Reeve, the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman films with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney, or even Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman before Superman: The Animated Series came along. I grew up absolutely loving this universe—it's one of the best I've ever experienced, right up there with my lifelong love for the Star Trek universe. Lol. The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) is a series of animated television shows and movies sharing a single continuity, starting with Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 and concluding with Justice League Unlimited in 2006. Here's a list of the main DCAU shows and movies in approximate chronological order: Shows: Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995) Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000) The New Batman Adventures (1997-1999) - A continuation of Batman: The Animated Series. Batman Beyond (1999-2001) Static Shock (2000-2004) Justice League (2001-2004) Justice League Unlimited (2004-2006) Movies: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero (1998) Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (2003) Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) One DCAU series I left off the main list is The Zeta Project (2001–2002). Sadly, it's pretty much vanished—no streaming anywhere, not even on HBO Max, which is weird considering every other DCAU series is there. There's not even a complete series box set I can find. Honestly, I don't think it's essential viewing anyway. Its only real tie to the DCAU is that it's a Batman Beyond spin-off—the main character, Zeta, appeared in just one Batman Beyond episode, which was basically a backdoor pilot for the show. As far as I know, no other DCAU characters show up in The Zeta Project. It's actually the only DCAU series I've never seen, even when it first aired. I didn't even realize it was part of the DCAU at the time, and apparently I forgot Zeta ever showed up in Batman Beyond, even though I've watched that whole series.
