Hugo would be Cassie's favorite among the list.

Bert Towle

It sat in that same bay for years. Then moved to Oregon. Not sure where it ended up. May still be in Oregon?

Chris Thom

The Spruce Goose only flew once and now sits in a Museum Smithsonian I believe. It kinda says it all a Plane Larger then Life and his Life Story and Dreams. Plane is so huge it's ridiculous why it couldn't achieve what he intended. Worth checking out.

Tim C

Some solid Scorsese films left to see on the channel: Casino, Hugo, Public Speaking, Kundun, The Wolf of Wallstreet. Hugo could be a fun one for the channel, considering its a story that is essentially about the love of film itself. Probably his most family-friendly movie. And highest budget.

Chris Thom

My personal favorite scene in this film is Hughes telling the wealthy family that they don't think about money because they have always had it. It's a frustrating situation to be in and I can't help but fantasize about being able to deliver such a confident retort.

James Melton

Hughes suffered from serious mental health issues which today we would call OCD. This is not the casual use of the term that someone might use to explain why they like to keep their shoes neatly aligned. This is the medical term, where the person experiences a degraded quality of life as a result of their compulsions. The film makes this a big part of his character. He can't pass a towel to a man in the bathroom because he is afraid of contamination from touching it. He can't finish his meal when someone (rudely) touches his plate. Eventually he can't leave a single room for months at a time. This disability is considered the tragedy of Hughes life story by many people.

James Melton

Fascinated with her. Did you get to spend any time with her growing up?

Chris Thom

DiCaprio should have won an Oscar for his performance as Howard Hughes

Bill Maurer

And The Philadelphia Story!

Daniel Karlsson

You really should watch a couple more Katherine Hepburn movies. If you haven’t. Should watch “Guess who’s coming to dinner” several great performances in that.

A Cate Blanchett movie I suggest is ELIZABETH: "Elizabeth" (1998). Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actress (Cate Blanchett). Cate Blanchett is stunning. Oscar Best Picture nominees that year: --"Elizabeth" (1998). --"The Thin Red Line" (1998) (awesome WWII movie). --"Shakespeare in Love" (1998) (won). Like this movie + your reaction. --"Saving Private Ryan" (1998). My Best Picture that year. Profound. --"Life is Beautiful" (1998).

Clay F

Good one. Good score by Thomas Newman.

Chris Thom

A Leonardo DiCaprio film I suggest is REVOLUTIONARY ROAD: “Revolutionary Road” (2008) (romantic drama). Setting: mid-1950s suburban America. Based on 1961 novel. Powerful movie. Nom 3 Oscars. Kate Winslet won Golden Globe for Best Actress. Golden Globe nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Director. Directed by Sam Mendes who also directed 1917 (2019), American Beauty (1999), Skyfall (2012), Road to Perdition (2002).

Wow. Lots of criticism for Leo and the Hughes story. Having had a lifetime career in aviation, I choose to honor and respect the research and advancements he brought to aviation. It seems like some of the greatest advancements in technology always involve controversial figures.

Michael McErlain

Speaking of Katherine Hepburn... On Golden Pond.. you'd love it.

Jeff Rogers

The youngest one looks really familiar.

Chris Thom

I do always see Leo DeCaprio the movie star in his parts, but I always accept what he's trying to portray. I tend to enjoy whatever he's doing onscreen. The Beach might make for a good reaction here.

Chris Thom

"and a fascist ..." The real definition or the modern delusional one? Also, do you have a source? I don't see anything even hinting at fascism. All I see is some racism.

Mike Lemon

The singers in the club scenes as they go through time are all from the same family. You have Rufus Wainwright Martha Wainwright and Loudon Wainwright.

Tinker

Hughes was a POS, and a fascist psycho.

Trevor Rotan

I know Cassie will hate me for this, but I don't get the love for DeCaprio--never have. Compared to actors like Johnny Depp or Val Kilmer, he just strikes me as average. I've never seen DeCaprio do any movie where I wasn't painfully clear it was Leonardo DeCaprio trying to act. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Always good to see a story about another Nutmegger. Katherine Hepburn's father was a Dr. at Hartford Hospital. She and the family spent a lot of time on the coast in Old Saybrook. She barely escaped with her life in the 1938 hurricane. It came upon New England as a bit of a surprise. No weather satellites in 1938. She said she escaped out the back window of the house before the storm swept the house away. Today there is a performing arts space in Old Saybrook in her honor. https://www.thekate.org/

TheSingulatarian

I just choose to believe her. Lol. It's nice.

Chris Thom

Great reaction. Thank you for doing this one. Perfect vid to leave us on before vacation. Lots to chew on.

Chris Thom

"pseudo" yes. It's quite different.

Hooray for Everything

Al Pacino Scarface is a pseudo remake of the 1932 film Scarface.

Robert Jewell

One thing about the Hughes legacy that gets missed sometimes is that he created the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It might have been a tax avoidance scheme at the time but has become one of if not the leading medical research charities in the world. They have multiple noble laureates in their catalog and today donate hundreds of millions of dollars to medical research every year.

Jim Sarbinoff

Dear Cassie, you should also now DEFINITELY WATCH - MELVIN AND HOWARD (1980) also based on a true story regarding Hughes. It won I think 3 Oscars and was directed by Jonathan Femme.

Robert Jewell

"You guys look great tonight!" Me in my pajamas pants and an old stained tshirt while waiting for laundry to finish and eating nachos. "Um...Thanks." 😆

There is absolutely nothing that Blanchett can't! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Agree that Cate Blanchett did excellent portraying Katharine Hepburn. A highlight of the movie.

Clay F

Is this like Air (2023), with channel favorite Tom Cruise in the Michael Jordan role? :-P

Happy Hanukkah

I've said this before: PiB should be exempt of all copyright inquiries

Hooray for Everything

Cate did a fantastic job portraying my cousin Kate.

Robert Jewell

It is so silly the copyright situation with YouTube reactors because you only increase interest in old movies and new movies. Movie Studios should be sponsoring you. Even Tom Cruise enjoyed your channel.

Doc Larry

Fun movie! Thanks for all you do and have a great weekend! 🛩👨‍✈️🎥🧝‍♀️🍿👏🫶
