The Aviator (2004) - Full Reaction

I did not know this story at all and it was inspiring and crazy and heart breaking. Leo and Cate were unreal. I loved seeing old school Hollywood and old school aviation and the storytelling made it go by quickly. I wanted to take care of him.

The Aviator (2004) - Full Reaction

Will this eventually get a YouTube upload? I'm very interested in watching the full reaction but can't get Patreon's video player to work properly on my tablet sync setup.

I don't know how I missed this reaction last month. I have seen it before, but it's a good movie. Leonardo DiCaprio is a fantastic actor. This goes to show that you can have all the money you want and all the women, but if you're not mentally healthy, you're not going to be happy. But if you are fighting with health problems, I'm sure having beautiful women on your side and all the money you need makes things a little easier. Here's a video I came across of all the women Howard Hughes dated, and they were some of the biggest names and most beautiful women in Hollywood. I'm surprised he doesn't have any children. Something tells me that's not from being careful: https://youtu.be/eQmFAuTLgUE?si=Y-HsMyQ0AF5GmnGQ

You really need to watch “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. It was one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s earliest films. I remember watching it thinking “this DiCaprio guy is going to be a great actor!” Also stars Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis.

Scarface (1932) (a pre-code film?) was released while that stuff was still going one. I loved Scarface (1983) as a young adult (age 20) when released, but now consider Scarface (1983) primarily worth watching for the Al Pacino performance (and some history).

Not sure about 2004 (I was 41), but I would think that most people now (2025) in US/Canada under 40 don't know of Howard Hughes. Not the most literate of history. I've known in detail about Howard Hughes since the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Hughes story was very old by the early 2000s, so somewhat surprising the studio would greenlight a big A-list film in 2004. If you had asked most people on the street in 2004 who Howard Hughes was, most would probably have no clue.

Leo has been Scorsese’s favorite actor to work with since the turn of the century, they’ve done done 7 films together. He took that title from De Niro, who’s worked with Marty 10 times, although just twice since 1995. They do make a great duo. Just to clear up: The Scarface that they’re talking about is not the Pacino one from 1983. They’re talking about the 1932 version. The 83 version is a remake with some similarities but a lot of differences too. I do hope you watch the remake despite my issues with it. It is iconic and a central piece of cinema history.
