Shakespeare In Love (1998) - Full Reaction

This totally swept me away. I could feel the love and pain in them! Made history come to life and the sets/costumes and period of it all was so beautiful!

*Also, to clarify, I didn't formally 'act' in the sense that I was a actress haha. I should have use better wording but in Canada we called it speech and it was mostly solo-poetry, storytelling, monologues etc. I won some competitions and got some grants but I went to school for marketing, not acting!

I always like this movie, but I would say "Saving Private Ryan" should have won that year.

I watched this today and really loved revisiting it after so many years. Such a beautifully written film, full of wit and passion. Such reverence for Shakespeare's words and the transformative power of poetry and art. I wish we had more romantic dramas of this calibre today. It's a significantly better film than people give it credit for, and mostly for reasons beyond anything to do with the film. (Anyway, as everyone knows, The Thin Red Line should have won all the Oscars that year...) Cassie, if you're ever in London you should visit the Globe Theatre on the Southbank. It's a theatre reconstructed in the Elizabethan style that you see in the film, with wooden seats (pillows for rent!) and a standing area around the stage for 'groundlings' where tickets are just £5. It's a unique and memorable way to experience a Shakespeare production, as long as the British weather doesn't let you down!

Queen Elizabeth I was beautifully played by Judi Dench. She was also a Tudor Queen. Anne Boleyn's Daughter if you look at portraits of her she does not look like the way she was portrayed in the movie Second The Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy. So my gf Eva and I get swooned by this one. Although we thought Materialists was better, and The Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes Romeo ✝️ Juliet is the best. At least in our minds because we consider it a lot more modern. Kind of a updated Romeo ✝️ Juliet.

Everything I hoped it would be. My only wish is that Carly had been there too.

This had Cassie written all over it. How did it take so long... It's a mystery!
