Hey butter cups!
I hope you had a wonderful Easter. Ours was actually very low key and relaxing, which isn't usually the case for a holiday but we just did it with friends-everyone brought a couple things for dinner and a game or two and it was a beautiful outside luncheon. I was grateful for the chance to reflect on peace in my beliefs and be with my family.
This week we have The Last of Us Season 2: Episode 1 and finishing up our Movie Madness Final Four with Blazing Saddles and Leon! Next week we will have 12 Monkeys (our wildcard poll winner) and more!
This Saturday is also our YT LIVE!! I'm so excited to hang with you and open packages, play games etc. (haha sounds like were going to a child's birthday party together) Hope to see you there (3 of the kids are gluten free so be mindful) haha jk!

2025-04-30 00:43:20 +0000 UTCActually the theatrical cut was released worldwide in 1994. There was just one version. The extended cut was released in 1996, two years later. It included scenes that Luc Besson wanted to add. Actually Jean Reno (the actor playing Leon) resisted the direction Luc Besson wanted to take the film from the start. He didn't like how Luc Besson wanted to portray Leon, and he only agreed into doing the film, if the original script was changed. The original script had a very inappropriate sex scene, that Jean Reno demanded to be removed, or he would have no part in the movie. Later Luc Besson added scenes that pulled it more into the direction he originally wanted. You should look into the private life of Luc Besson to understand, he's a creep IRL. Jean Reno is not, and Jean Reno saved the movie by objecting to Besson's horrible ideas about how the story should be. This is what IMDb says: "An extended cut, retitled 'Leon: version integrale' was released in French cinemas on June 26, 1996. This version is 26 minutes longer than the previously released version and includes, amongst others, one sequence that was removed from the film after the disastrous tests with L.A. preview audiences. This version of the film is available on various DVDs, and is usually called the 'International Cut'." Natalie Portman has also some negative feelings about Leon, in general: “It’s a movie that’s still beloved, and people come up to me about it more than almost anything I’ve ever made,” Portman told The Hollywood Reporter, “and it gave me my career, but it is definitely, when you watch it now, it definitely has some cringey, to say the least, aspects to it. So, yes, it’s complicated for me.” “I was definitely aware of the fact that I was being portrayed as this ‘Lolita’ figure,” Portman said in 2020. “Being sexualized as a child, I think took away from my own sexuality because it made me afraid, and it made me feel like the way I could be safe was to be like, ‘I’m conservative,’ and ‘I’m serious and you should respect me,’ and ‘I’m smart,’ and ‘don’t look at me that way.'” She added, “So many people had this impression of me that I was super serious and conservative and I realized I consciously cultivated that because it was always to make me feel safe. Like, ‘Oh, if someone respects you, they’re not going to objectify you.’ When I was in my teens I was like, ‘I don’t want to have any love scenes or make-out scenes.’ I would start choosing parts that were less sexy because it made me worried about the way I was perceived and how safe I felt.”

I have no strong preference. Theatrical: This is the version that was originally released in the US. It's shorter than the international version. Some scenes removed for American audiences. International (Extended): The director prefers this version. Contains 25 minutes of additional footage that was cut for the theatrical release. As mentioned, this International (Extended) version is available to stream on Amazon Prime. I would be happy with either version. I have watched the theatrical but don't remember that well. I have never watched the International (Extended). I've noticed a couple of comments that say to stay away from International (Extended). But Stick Figure recommends the International (Extended) version, which he called the European cut. In a comment below, Stick Figure said "I do hope you are watching the longer European cut."
