Tommy Lee Jones and William Devane (flight director Eugene Davis) starred together in Rolling Thunder. Jones and Sutherland starred together in JFK. Eastwood and Sutherland starred together in Kelly's Heroes. At this point, all but Sutherland had portrayed cowboys in film and/or tv. (Sutherland had portrayed a 19th century Canadian Mounted Police Officer.)

You mentioned some of James Garner's credits like The Notebook and Maverick, but have you ever seen The Rockford Files? James Garner played detective Jim Rockford. This show was HUGE back in the day, and it's held up very well and is very entertaining. It's worth checking out if you've never seen it. - Thomas
