Bob Hopkins Matt Lucas in the wind in the willows

David

Chris, thanks for that - as long as she's seen it. :-)

Jason Scott

Damn I thought that was a Rolling Stones song. 70's songs especially I can mix up the bands and titles. Oh wait that's AC/DC isn't it. Either that or an Aimee Winehouse. Lol

Chris Thom

Forgot about Singles. Think that might be the last Linklater movie I have left to see.

Chris Thom

Both Buicks are great picks!

Frank Edwards

Though not in any movie I know of, my choice would be either a 1970 Buick GSX Stage 2 (Beauty, power and luxury. Who could ask for anything more) or the Darth Vade of Muscle cars the 1987 Buick GNX for all the same reasons!

Sam Wilson

The car is often the star. To this day, if I could choose any car to own, it would be Bullitt's Mustang, closely followed by The Bandit's Trans-Am.

Clarence Newman

Oh yes, alright , alright , alright!

David Bockly

Speaking as an old gearhead, I really think the Chevelle SS 454 LS5 and the GTO should have gotten billing on the credits as they were certainly stars of the show also!!

Sam Wilson

I would also recommend Richard Linklater's underrated companion piece to this film he made about 20 years later: "Everybody Wants Some!!" It focuses on the members of a college baseball team as they prepare for the season a few days before the academic year starts. However, Glen Powell is still pretty much the only actor from it who's become a star now (Zoey Deutch remains a 'semi-star').

Byrd N. Hand

I'm surprised nobody has recommended Linklater's spiritual sequel to this film, Everybody Wants Some!! That movie is a similar slice of life hang out movie that takes place during roughly a 24 hour period, only it takes place in college in the 80s. That movie hasn't produced nearly as many future stars as Dazed and Confused did, but it is an early movie for both Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell. That movie wasn't as successful as D&C, and hasn't had nearly the cultural footprint, but if you like this movie and found yourself wanting something similar from the same writer/director, give Everybody Wants Some!! a look.

The director of this film tried to get Zeppelin's permission to use the song in this movie but Zeppelin refused, as they typically did back then. Ironically it later came out that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin heard Jake Holmes performing this song back in 1967 (as it was Holmes' song), and Page then basically stole it and reworked it first for the Yardbirds and then again for Led Zeppelin. Holmes tried to contact Page for decades to get credit and royalties for Zeppelin having stolen his song, but it took him until 2010 when Page finally settled a lawsuit giving Holmes money and credit for this song. This was not unusual for Page and Zeppelin either, as the majority of their early work was just songs they stole from other artists who were then forced to hound them for decades to try to get money and credit for Zeppelin stealing their work. Zeppelin's entire first album is basically the best cover album ever.

Stranger2Reality

My favourite Led Zeppelin song is Back in Black. :-P

Happy Hanukkah

You can describe it like that yes. 🙂 https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/show-me-love-2000

Björn Karlsson

Oh, I would love to see her reaction to that! It's such a great movie.

Michael Siegel

This is a movie that never resonated with me probably because I was never with any crowd in high school. I can appreciate it's well-made and written and acted and enjoy your reaction to it. I like Linklater's other movies. Just not this one.

Michael Siegel

I just say 'one for the Cumberb***hes.' Weirdly no one gets offended by that. It's what his lady fans call themselves.

Chris Thom

What an iconic movie to work on. And such a cool young cast. Sounds super fun. The Before Sunrise trilogy I'm pretty sure she's seen already. She mentioned seeing them all when she was pregnant or a new mom or something.

Chris Thom

Oh so it is love they discover...and not just doin' it?

Chris Thom

LET'S GET CASSIE - and hopefully Carly - to watch BEFORE SUNRISE, which is one of THE most romantic movies EVER, and is very much in the vein of D+C except that it only focuses on two characters.

Jason Scott

I'm so sorry I couldn't watch this "live" - but I was so excited to see the YT cut last night. As mentioned before, I WORKED ON THIS MOVIE all during production as the unit publicist, and it was a real high point of my life (pun intended/not intended). I was SO THRILLED as it dawned on Cassie that there was no major plot, it was just a slice of life, and how much she related to these amazing, complex, and thoughtful characters.

Jason Scott

For some reason, I'd never actually seen this movie before, although I was aware of it's existence. Everyone is in this movie! I was familiar with almost everyone in this cast.

Stephen Dias

Hello Cassie, great reaction. I have the soundtrack on CD.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Please do a swedish movie about high school kids, when they discovers love. We all know which movie I'm talking about 😁😆🥰

Björn Karlsson

I graduated in 81 in rural east Texas. We had hippies and the pot culture. We also had rednecks who hated hippies.

Clay F

Yes Ma'am that was school in the 70's in Texas. Not sure if other states were the same. The teachers were all from the 60's so mostly hippies with a degree lol.

Jayson Phillips

It could be worse. Consider poor Bandit Cucumberpatch! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Seconded! Great period piece.

REDR58

Do check out “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” from 1982 and then for something a little different, “Singles” from 1992 which features Bridget Fonda from “It Could Happen to You.” It’s a nice romantic comedy set right around when Grunge Music was a thing.

REDR58

I know I don't even try any more. Lol. I just call him Matthew M.

Chris Thom

Oh that’s right. Why mchaunahay was in it. Sorry don’t know how to spell his name lol.

JULIE

It was Austin Texas which had/has some similarities to Cali. Even now with the tech companies moving in.

Chris Thom

This was my era but never had this at my school. Seems like more a California vibe. I think this movie didn’t do great when released but more popular later when the actors became known.

JULIE

YES Ramble On. That's the one. I had a mix CD of thirteen of their songs and I don't think I ever learned the titles. But I know them by heart.

Chris Thom

You’re probably thinking of “Ramble On”, although they make references to Tolkien’s literature in several songs (the song title “Misty Mountain Hop” is a reference to Bilbo’s adventures, for example). But I think “Ramble On” probably has the most, and most direct, references to Tolkien’s work. PS: I’m right there with you on their song titles - or, at least, I was in my youth. I remember, as a senior in high school, telling some friends at work that I’d never even heard Led Zeppelin. That night we all went to Pizza Hut and one of them put tons of quarters in the juke box and selected one Led Zeppelin song after another. I belatedly realized I’d heard every one of their songs on the juke box and been a fan for years. I just didn’t realize it until that moment. I spent my next couple of paychecks on their albums and immediately became a big fan of the songs I hadn’t heard before.

Just Plain Bob

Need to listen to it again. I know Led Zeppelin fairly well but I've always gotten the titles mixed up, so not totally sure which song it is this moment. I like the one with the Lord of the Rings references. Whichever that is. lol

Chris Thom

American Graffiti is a must watch. Thanks for another great reaction and have a great week! 🍿💛👏

GomezAddams

Led Zeppelin’s live performance of “Dazed and Confused” at Madison Square Garden in 1973, as captured in the fantastic concert film/documentary “The Song Remains the Same”, is my favorite performance of any song. Not to sound too much like the old metal head that I am, but LED ZEPPELIN RULES!

Just Plain Bob

This was like American Graffiti but in the 70's. At my high school, there was a small pot head crowd which I was not a part of. I was known, but I wasn't very popular, besides, I had no earthly idea what to do with women. They were way too complicated for my small brain to handle. As it turns out, the women didn't really know what to do either. Ah, the innocence, ignorance and bliss of youth.

Thomas P Hamilton

I know. Those shorts! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

I was a freshman in the late 70’s and graduated in 81. We did not have the pot culture but there was definitely house parties, cruising town and drinking. This feels so familiar. It was a wonderful time pre-smart phone and even Internet. There was an innocence and feeling of Americana. We mastered the art of hanging out. Girls, cars, music and that first high school job.

Dan Johnson

As a high school grad from 1975, I really don’t think Cassie would have liked living in the seventies.

Stephen Malloy

Huh? I don't see either Jessica Pare or Piper Perabo! (I'm OK with not seeing Mischa Barton.) 6:05 And now I'm role-reversing 5:46 6:16 Nope, it's your beloved Jack Nicholson. 8:10 So it is. Parker Posey, "Queen of Indies." 19:53 Plural? Nice reaction. Needed more boron. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

There’s that moment near the end where Floyd stands up on the football field and it’s just a shot of him staring off into the distance. I think it’s the most powerful moment in the film. All day he’s been told to think about his future, but here in this moment, he’s surrounded by his friends? enjoying the moment. He stares down an ocean of uncertainty ahead of him, but in that moment he is just there and he’s okay. Just livin’ life.

Jose Deleon

Randall "Pink" knew he could be ballsy because he is starting quarterback and they really need him to play. They would have cut him already if they did not need him.

Matt O'Keefe

The thumbnail needs to be next to dazed and confused in the dictionary. 😂

Joe Mallard

This movie was THE movie with one of my groups of friends. I was the drinker in a group of stoners and my best buddy was 100% Slater. lol Such good times.

Murph3194

Yes, the drinking age was 18 in 1976.

Matt O'Keefe

Cassie, this movie is about just what was shown-teenagers on their last day of school in 1976 in the US. It is also just a good hang out movie.

Matt O'Keefe

A big +1 for Led Zeppelin

Clay F

My friend on the baseball always wore this t-shirt to practice and I never knew what it was referring to. Lol. Until like seven years later when I discovered Led Zeppelin at the same time as this movie.

Chris Thom

That's where the title comes from.

Kevin Charley

"Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packing here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some fu*kin' muscle."

NSG MMA

Alright Alright Alright

T.K.

Whenever I see the title Dazed and Confused, I think of Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused from their debut album!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS
