Crocodile Dundee II (1988) - Full Reaction

G’day mates! Why is Mick just the most lovable guy?! I love that again. We got time in New York and Australia in this one. It was fun, so easy to watch. The bad guys were a bit cartoonish but I think that kind of went with the tone!

If you're looking for great Australian movies, try "The Man From Snowy River". Amazing movie, old school, and without question some of the greatest horsemanship ever represented in a movie! It got drama, action and a sweeping love story!

At least try to be original once in a while. SMH No, no it wouldn't be less Clay. They fact that you think it would shows you do not have a clue! You are just butthurt because your lover boy Abrams got called out for the hack he is. The Kelvin films are terrible, I have pointed out why, but I have also said people are free to like terrible films. I do.
Really?! Calling me "brainwashed" and "unobjective"?! Coming from the guy who parrots whatever the mainstream tell him to is rich!
No, of course I will not be watching her reaction to "STID". I watched it once, which was one too many times as it is, so why would I support a film I do not like?! Besides, it is "STB" this week. Don't worry I won't be watching that either as it is even worse that "STID".

You woud be less of a dink/pompous ass if you posed sarcastic comments about the Kelvin films to make a point, than in the way you express such utter contempt for the Kelvin films, especially in the close-minded brainwashed way that you do without any sense of objectivity. You shit on people who love the Kelvin films. Are you watching her reaction to ST Into Darkness this week?

2025-01-17 23:03:10 +0000 UTC
WOW... you really do have mental issues don't you Clay! Cass and Carly are not "typical audience" you dunce. Reactors talking to each other can easily miss things. You yourself picked up on it. Which says more than I ever could because the average viewer is miles ahead of you. You were absolutely attempting to use Cass and Carly as a shield.
Yes, the vast majority of people knew the clothes and places were switched. Mick was in complete control, he then told Rico to take off his pants. So, let me get this straight... your hypothesis is that Rico turned the tables on Mick and yet didn't kill him on the spot? But wait, they also never showed that on screen and by your grade school logic it couldn't have happened then. I never said it was too complicated for Cass and Carly, I said it was understandably missed by them; I inferred that it was too complicated for YOU. Still creating strawman arguments eh Clay?!
It was overly sarcastic and in parts inaccurate. Using that tone and linguistic style is provocative and what makes you a pompous-ass and a "dink". Nobody would have had an issue if you would have said, "I dislike (or even hate) this film for such and such reasons". You might have had push back on points made but your character and tone wouldn't have come into question.
That is the difference between your OP and my "crapping on the Kelvin films". I say I don't like a film and give the reasons why. How is this so hard for you to grasp?! Disagreeing on a film and mocking a film are vastly different.
I see you keep ignoring questions you have no rebuttal to... weak!
AGAIN with the echo responses. Have you ever had an original thought... like EVER Clay?! You might as well say, "I am rubber, you are glue..."!
You were and are being a "dink" Clay. It is not my problem you have no desire for self reflection or the humility to act upon it.

You have no support for your statements: "The vast, vast majority of people picked up on that scene" or that "99.9% of the audience" knew. So you are saying that Cass/Carly are the 1 in a 1000 who were unsure.
I was not using Cass/Carly as a shield but merely as an example of the typical audience unsure of what occured. Was not "they might miss the odd thing here and there" but instead what the typical audience experienced. You are truly "pathetic." Your "underserved yet overinflated ego" can't admit that you are wrong. No one knew that clothes had been switched -- never shown or 100% implied. So you do think "the prior scene where Mick got the drop on Rico and then told him to take off his pants [was] too complicated" for Carly/Cassie. I feel sad for you.
My comments in my original post were sarcastic. The movie is bad/ridiculous. That is my opinion. I was not commenting on those who like the movie. I was not being a "dink."
Based on your rationale, when you degrade the Kelvin films (with such emphasis and utter contempt/disrespect), you are being a "dink" and a "pompous-ass," and denigrate people who love those movies, and people who believe the Kelvin movies are a great progression in the ST franchise and reinvigorated the franchise -- are true to ST -- and honor ST -- you shit on those people.
You made many comments in Patreon on this channel crapping on the Kelvin films. "You must not have many people who talk to you IRL, if you are so desperate for conversation that you aim to provoke others in a comment section."
Clay F
2025-01-17 18:06:18 +0000 UTC
Clay, while it might be under your OP, it was a reply to Mike and addressed to Mike.
Your mental gymnastics and avoidance is almost as impressive as your backpedaling. I am not surprised that you need things spelled out for you. I would imagine you needed both characters to wear a sign with their names on it to figure it out. SMH The vast, vast majority of people picked up on that scene Clay. You know it, I know it. Using Cass and Carly as a shield is just pathetic. They are reacting and talking to us and to each other. Not a stretch to figure out they might miss the odd thing here and there. What is your excuse?! We both know that it was just a poor attempt to add another "shortcoming" of the film and it was a bad example. The fact your undeserved yet overinflated ego can't admit that is, again, not surprising. What is really going on is you are just being a dick for dicks sake, as your heavily sarcastic comment, "I got teary eyed thinking that Mick had been killed..." proves that you knew they had switched clothes, like 99.9% of the audience did. Time to grow up son.
I am still waiting for the quote of where I was addressing "this post" in my original comment! -crickets-
The fact that you don't think you are/were being a dink and denigrating those who like/enjoy this film speaks volumes! There is a reason people are calling you out for being a pompous-ass and a "dink". If you were a real man you would own up to it instead of regressing to 3rd grade "I know you are but what am I" comebacks. Then again Clay, you do have trouble thinking for yourself so echoing a reply is par for the course for you.
You must not have many people who talk to you IRL, if you are so desperate for conversation that you aim to provoke others in a comment section. I feel sad for you. Otherwise, you would/should have replied to Mike with, "Yeah, you're right, I was being a dink, my bad." Which would have ended the conversation at 2 reply comments. Or better yet, don't be such a "dink" in the first place.

Yes, it’s worth it Chris. It was incredible, but really tough! It is a dangerous place to visit on your own! Some of my time in the outback was on guided tours but if you want to experience the real outback don’t go with the touristy ones. I went on a tour for adventure/thrill seekers. They run between 1-2 weeks at a time. With me we’re a couple of jungle trekkers and a couple who run a fitness centre and two guides. It was so tough one of the guys was throwing up on fourth morning! Climbing and trekking everyday in that heat Is brutal! But you get to see things and go places very thew people do. But I was 21 then. Couldn’t imagine being able to do that now.😅

Doug, while you addressed Mike, you replied to my post. Your reply is in the thread under my post: "Clay can't think for himself and only likes movies that the oh so trustworthy IMDB tells him to like. He is as deep as a puddle of piss."
I never denigrated those who like/enjoy the movie but merely gave a take on the movie. In regard to projection, for "pompous ass" and "not nearly clever ... as he thinks he is," you may want to look in the mirror.
Telling Rico to take off his pants is not enough to draw hard conclusions. Did you see Cassie/Carly's reaction? Cassie suspected something with taking the pants off but was unsure. Carly: "Did they shoot Mick?" There was definitely a moment of relief by the two when confirmed not Mick.
Are you asking if "the prior scene where Mick got the drop on Rico and then told him to take off his pants too complicated" for Carly/Cassie? At least you address something substantive, but there was no scene showing any exchange of clothes and not enough information to 100% deduce such.
Clay F
2025-01-17 05:22:28 +0000 UTC
It is not about that DJ, it is the fact that RT, IMDB, etc. are review sites with manipulated data. Hence useless. Either way it is irrelevant. If you didn't like the first one you will not like the 2nd one, so I wouldn't recommend watching it. It is OK, there are a ton of movies Cass reacts to that I don't watch. You do not have to watch/like everything.

Clay... talk about your confession through projection in regards to poor reading comprehension skills. Please, quote where in my comment I specified "this post". You can't because I didn't. Further, you couldn't even comprehend your own name as I addressed my comment to Mike, not you. I never replied to you as you claim, which you know full well, since when I address someone their name leads my comment.
Well, I guess while we are addressing comments not intended for us... Mike asked you a legitimate question, (which you never answered by the way). You just replied with pretentious drivel. Instead of your OP saying "I don't like this movie for these reasons." without denigrating those who do like/enjoy it; you had to be a pompous ass about it, who is not nearly as clever and definitely not as funny as he thinks he is.
By the way... the audience never thought, nor was supposed to think that Mick was shot and fell off the cliff; only Sue and Walter and they reasonably thought that. Was the prior scene where Mick got the drop on Rico and then told him to take off his pants too complicated for you?!

The effort I obviously put into editing whatever I originally said??
The only main text I added to my original post:
"This movie is awesome. A movie for the ages. Better than Gladiator."
My original post did not have that. I added that to the beginning and them moved to end. No other signficant edit. Not much effort. I commonly edit/tweak my posts. That is the way I write. I write in my job. Any passage I write is typically a first draft. Nothing "wonky" about it. Glad you enjoyed the movie.

Not sure if you noticed but the black girl on the playground was Ashley from, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. José was in The Count of Monte Cristo and Anger Management. Alec Wilson, the cowboy that you said, looks like Chris Pratt, is also in the third Crocodile film. Even though it was filmed much later and is very cheesy, I think the two of you would enjoy the third film, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles.

If you genuinely think RT is useless then you’re using it wrong. You have to take all the information into account. It’s a tool. If you’re not going to use the entire tool, then yeah I guess maybe it is useless.
Hence why I also included the average score for more context. That’s like saying a news aggregator is useless because it’s only headlines… you gotta look deeper. If you’re not, then that’s on you, not RT.

Yeah because even if the review is slightly negative it counts as rotten. And a film like this would suffer as it's bound to have unfair criticism because it's dumb fun and being compared to the first film, which critics likely praised for it's novelty. It's a fun, stupid, movie.

Mike, you need to stop being an ass. You disagree. I get it. Now move on. You don't have to be a big time ass about it. Not everyone is going to agree with you.
My opinion, as implied in my comments in this original post above, is that this movie is shit with no redeemable qualities, except for an occasional attractive shot of Linda Kozlowski. Thank you so much Cassie/Carly for that reaction. It brought back at lot of memories for me. Not just the movie, but my time in Australia. I spent a year there in 98 and traveled around a lot. I spent several months in the Northern Territory and traveled into the wilderness of Kakadu where they filmed a lot of the location shoots. When Mick makes his “phone call” in the bush, he is using a Bullroarer, I stood in that exact spot where he did that. Just the most harsh but beautiful country.
Those bats are flying fox’s or fruit bats. I remember one night I had a load of them roosting over my tent! They were noisy and worst of all when I came out of my tent in the morning it was weighted down with their droppings! Smelly!! I didn’t see many snakes but lots of Huntsman spiders the size of dinner plates and of course plenty of Croc’s. I went snorkelling in twin falls gorge and came across a croc resting in the river bed! Yeah that was scary!! And not too clever on my part, but I was young and stupid back then! Now I’m just stupid! 😂
Anyways, thanks for the reaction, glad you enjoyed. I know it’s not quite as good as the first, but it’s still good fun! My favourite part, is at the end when Charlie (Ernie Dingo) the aboriginal actor, said “corse not, there’s mick over there” and just has the best smile! 😀

I’d bet that almost every country has one. In Hungary, for instance, it’s August 20. The State Foundation Day, commemorating the establishment of the Kingdom of Hungary in the year 1000 AD.
That said, dedicating a poll to celebrate each of the nearly 200 countries probably isn’t practical. 😄
Seems there are some Luxembourgish movies, and the first one was shot by the Lumière brothers in 1899: https://luxembourg.public.lu/en/society-and-culture/artistic-creation/luxembourg-must-see-films.html

Viewed from that perspective, aren't most anniversaries just "made up"? Europe Day marks the Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950, which proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which became the foundation toward the creation of the European Union. So, in essence, it marks the starting point of the EU and this year marks it 75th anniversary.
The reason I keep proposing this, albeit unsuccessfully so far, is that out of 596 reactions, I believe only 3 have been for European movies: Amélie, Das Boot, and The Intouchables. Four, if you include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, which was an Italian production but is distributed as an English speaking movie. But even then, that’s just 0.67% of all reactions.
Having a dedicated event for European movies would at least ensure one reaction per year. And yes, Europe has many countries, but I’d focus on continental Europe, as UK cinema (being English-speaking) has a much better chance of doing well in other polls.

Surprising Harrison Ford wasn't near the top of mind for the silver fox list... with "Shrinking" being mention a bunch of late and just the general love for him.
It's been a while since I have seen this to be honest, and although it has it charms, I don't think it is as endearing as the first, and has a bit of run-on-the-mill 80's action plot with the Aussie-isms making it a bit more of the beaten path.
Completely forgot a much younger Stephen Root was in this. Glad "Office Space" got a name check... I guess there is an argument to be made that "Milton" is the DEA agent from "Crocodile Dundee II" under an assumed name after his law enforcement career and that the stapler he cares so much about is one he got from "Leroy Brown" when they met from this case, and is why it means so much to him, it was a reminder of his former life.
There are bunch of great Aussie movie out there, and plenty would make good reactions, I have suggested these before in various places:
* The Dish
* The Castle
* Chopper
* Strictly Ballroom
* Muriel's Wedding
* Animal Kingdom
* The Lighthorseman
* Ned Kelly
Some Aussie movies for October:
*Wolf Creek
* Rogue
*Razorback
Lots of familiar faces in lots of these, and not as recommend as much as some of the more well known movies, such as "Australia", "The Man from Snowy River", or "Gallipoli".
Also, if the Youtube edit is trying to hit when Australia day is actually happening in Australia, the evening of Jan 25th would make it lunch time on Australia Day in Australia. The 26th in North America will make it fall on the 27th in Australia, which is when the public holiday will be occurring, as it is the infrequent occasion when the actual day falls on a weekend which moves the public holiday.

Two of my favorite movies from the 80s that Cassie & Carly haven't watched yet are:
WarGames (1983) starring Matthew Broderick & Ally Sheedy. After Return of the Jedi, this was THE MOVIE to see that summer, not only because it was a great movie, but it also woke a lot of people up & got them thinking about computers & cyber security. A lot of the security technology we have nowadays didn't even exist back in 1983, and a lot of what we have today came about mainly because of this movie. In fact, after screening this movie, President Ronald Reagan got with his advisors & asked them if any of what happened in the movie was possible. They came back & told him that not only was it possible, but it was a lot worse than they could have imagined. Only a few months later, Reagan signed the very first Presidential Directive regarding cyber security. That's how much of an impact WarGames had on the world.
SpaceCamp (1986) starring Kate Capshaw, Tom Skerrit, Lea Thompson, Tate Donovan, Larry B. Scott, Kelly Preston & (a very young) Joaquin Phoenix (billed as Lead Phoenix) in his very first movie. Soundtrack by John Williams. Movie was great, but did poorly at the box offices because what became known as a 'marketing nightmare' because it was released less than 5 months after the Challenger disaster & a lot of people felt they were trying to capitalize on the disaster, even though filming was completed the previous year.

@Clay- First, you constantly mention IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes and have said you tend to only like movies those sites say are "good", that is what Doug was getting at. In fact, here is your comment on the Dundee 1 reaction-
"The sequel Crocodile Dundee II is 9% on Rotten Tomatoes."
I'm pretty sure there are more in the F.A.Q. post and some other posts, you tend to mention it whenever someone talks about Dundee 2, but I don't feel like looking.
Now to your reply to me- Yes, here is my substantive comment- stop being an ass-hat. People like movies you don't, people don't like movies you do like, disagree with them and move on. You don't need to be a twat-waffle and denigrate them or their opinion. And that brings up another point- if you can't help but be a dink, know what their opinion is first, not what you think their opinion is, before you say something. To keep it on topic, nobody has said Crocodile Dundee 2 was some incredible movie with a life changing, in-depth story. They have just said it's fun and they like it.

This was rather an unexpected surprise lol! A good way to end my overtime week with one day off from work just before I head out on my vacation to Las Vegas lol! This is an enjoyable sequel to watch, though like you, I prefer the first one as well! The only other movie that I know Paul Hogan (Dundee) from is "Flipper (96)" also starring Elijah Wood! Even in that movie he still portrays his layed back, swav, Dundee persona lol! The third Crocodile Dundee movie isn't exactly the best, but it's still an enjoyable popcorn flick, it has plenty of funny moments if you ever decide to finish off the franchise! Thanks for a good laugh and a good way to end the week for me! Love and support always, you & Carly are the best, Happy Australia Day, and God bless y'all and the family 🦘🥰😇🙏🤗😁😉✌👍🌹

I like them both but they fell prey to the dreaded sequel trap of thinking they had to be bigger... so more action, bad guys, etc. Though, I give props for not rehashing the first and keeping while deepening Mick and Sue's relationship. Besides... who doesn't love a Donk! ;)

Ah... good, clean 80's fun. I like 1 a little more but this is also an enjoyable fun movie. Rat's gang as well as the Antagonist is just how gangs and bad guys in most 80's PG movies were depicted.
As for Aus flavoured movies... I would recommend in Cass & Carly friendly order:
1) "The Man From Snowy River" 1 & 2 (1982 & 1988 - you'll both love of them)
2) "Quigley Down Under" (1990 - Tom Selleck & Allen Rickman, Western)
3) "Phar Lap" (1983 - Tom Burlinson, from Snowy River and Canadian Born)
4) "The Water Diviner" (2014 - Russell Crowe, War aspects, hard parts, but a great love story)
5) "Mad Max" (1979 - Mel Gibson)
6) "Gallipoli" (1981 - War, Mel Gibson).
There are more but that is a good start.

Well this was a Real Nice Surprise!
I remember seeing these films as a kid, but never latched onto them and they never became favorites. I don’t think I ever even watched them all the way through in one sitting. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I finally sat down and decided to watch the First one, respectably, for the first time, and I Loved it. Mick Dundee is now one of my most favorite characters of all time. Up there with Cliff Booth. Mick Dundee’s chillness is something I aspire to achieve one day. (The skills would be nice too ;-)
I loved the first film so much. The fish out of water aspect, Dundee’s coolness about it and his outlook on life, and of course the natural romance. Watching Sue little by little, fall in love with Mick (which happened in real life as well), because he was the coolest guy in the room, and he wasn’t even trying, and he didn’t even care. If he cared about anything, it was making everyone else around him feel calm and easy. But he’s not trying to do that. His natural demeanor just makes everyone feel calm and easy.
Sue’s line from the first film, “I’m always alright when I’m with you, Dundee. God, that sounds Corny.”
But so True ;-)
It didn’t take me long to get around to watching the sequel and when I did (the next day)… I was disappointed. I was hoping it was going to be more of the first film. More Romance, a Slice of Life, Very Chill kind of movie. More relaxed like the first.
I kept wondering why we needed “Bad Guys.” The tone of the film was oddly different, and it felt like they were trying to turn Mick Dundee into an action hero. I haven’t had the want to watch this sequel again in these past 5 years, and was hardly looking forward to the film appearing on this channel.
Cut to Tonight.
Whoa!! I really liked this film. This was so much Fun. Still not as good as the first, but Sue still loves Mick, Mick still loves Sue and would do anything for her, and…
Mick Dundee was Still the Most Chill.
That made the film for me this time. I guess I just needed some time away, and to go into it knowing that I’m getting something a little different.
(I think it’s true, that Expectations before a film, can affect your perception of the film. I think we all learned this with An Officer and a Gentleman. ;-)
I’ve watched the first film a number of times over the past 5 years. It’s of one my All-Time favorites, and Mick Dundee is a character that I will never get tired of watching. Seeing Mick still be true to his established character in the second film, even with a tonal shift, was a very enjoyable experience. (Hey, it’s kind of like Life. Who ever said that the Movie of Life has to stick to only one genre ;-)
I’m really happy to now have 2 Crocodile Dundee films and I will continue to believe that it is possible to be as Cool and Chill as Mick Dundee in real life, especially for my real life Sue.
(-: God, that sounds Corny ;-)
Like I said… A Real Nice Surprise.

Night of the Comet (1984) is one of my All-Time favorites. Quirky and Creepy are great describers. And also definitely Fun.
I love the opening credits, where you see Catherine Mary Stewart’s Regina character introduction playing the arcade game. The music was perfect.
“You ever been hit with Dots, Mel?… Milk-Duds? Those things hurt.”
Between this, The Last Starfighter (1984) and Weekend at Bernie’s (1989), I developed a bit of a crush on Catherine Mary Stewart.
+1 on Night of the Comet (1984)

Great List Dave!
Just watched Real Genius (1985) last weekend, for first time in a long time. Really fun movie.
The Big Chill (1983)
Moonstruck (1987)
Broadcast News (1987)
The Secret of My Success (1987)
Some of my faves. Lots of fun.
All would be great reactions. I’ve always thought it crazy how each decade in the 20th Century was so differently unique in the films they produced. The 80s was definitely the most Fun for films.

The opening scene of Mick illegally fishing with dynamite in the water off Manhattan, and with the police guy doing an aw-shucks and laughing letting Mick go -- that was priceless true humor. Then, the postman Ralph doing a perfect imitation of Nixon without any recognition by Mick -- that was hilarious.
But the movie got scary -- Rat (the guy wearing the cap sideways) was truly menacing -- I am glad he ended up being helpful. Mick getting into the house (while the gang howled), and out of the house (freeing the captured Sue) -- was amazing -- so slick. Exiting into the parade of the gang was a nice touch.
In Australia, the drug lord saying: "The girl's got to die. But no one touches Dundee. He's for me." -- that was truly ominous. The bra trap by Mick was genius. The suspense wondering if the captured Wally (Walter) would be ok was killing me. Some say the movie is like a Saturday morning cartoon, but I disagree -- the movie is just too real, too intense.
Mick should have worn his crocodile camouflage costume outside of the water just walking about. He looked great in it. At the end, the movie leading the audience to believe that it was Mick who fell off the cliff was so convincing. I got teary eyed thinking that Mick had been killed -- but then joy/jubilation realizing that it wasn't Mick. The final scene (image) of Mick and Sue facing the camera -- was stunning. There was so much romance in this sequel -- from beginning to end. This movie is awesome. A movie for the ages. Better than Gladiator.

I was 25, married, and working as a chemical engineer when watched this movie in 1988. I've always disliked this movie. Not funny. The action is ridiculous. Almost no romance. Zero enjoyment for me, except for the occasional attractive shot of Linda Kozlowski.
