[YT Edit] Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Hey guys! Here is the YT for "Star Trek Into Darkness" which will premiere shortly!
@Chris- This movie didn't make money. I would be surprised if the whole Kurtzman Trek made any money, but who knows how streaming makes money.

there is a character in Star Trek Picard season 3 named Anton. It was meant to honor him.

Truth. A lot of these decisions feel like Wallstreet guys put figures into a computer and ran with the results.

Very common practice. Just re-cycle a previous story, it's just easier and the suits could care less as long as the movie makes money.

That absolutly is the in universe lore reason they gave... it still doesn't explain the rediculously inefficient use of space! No logical design reason for any of it. (except to look more like StarWars ) lol
Just wait for the turbolift cavern nonsence in the 3rd movie! WTF?! lol ;)

Yeah they go a little far with the retread thing. A lot of 'member berries at random intervals. And the whole thing gets confusing because it's a new cast, with the same names, remixed original stories, in a separate timeline, with sudden appearances by the original cast. It gets strange. No a bad movie at all, but a bit more originality would be nice.

I believe David Freese told me that the reason the Enterprise is bigger is because of the Kelvin being destroyed so easily by Nero in the first movie. It changed how Star Fleet built their ships in size and weaponry.

I'm glad she liked it..for me, especially at the time, my reaction was (and still is) "couldn't they have done something original?" they had a great setup and then just re-hashed another movie, in some cases word for word even. It just felt like they missed a great opportunity do something new and instead fell back on troupes to try to appease the fan base. A huge let down for me when I was really looking forward to it when it was released.

Also, Leonard Nimoy was in Transformers: The Movie (1986), Marvel published the Transformers comics, and there was a crossover series with the Avengers.

See the blood thing never bothered me, and I know its been a real issue with other people. Like yes, it wasn't established in previous Trek...but in terms of the plot of this film...its literally established in the first act and carries over the rest of the film. It doesn't just pop up out of nowhere. Honestly, I think its as much of a deus ex machina as the Genesis torpedo in TWOK.
My biggest gripes in the film is the usage of Khan and some of the logic gaps in the second act. I think the idea of Starfleet becoming more militarized cause of the Narada incident in the first film makes sense. Marcus finding the Botany Bay and using the Augments intellect works for me. I just wish it BC was playing one of Khan's followers and not Khan himself. There would be more to explore there instead of just just doing a Khan rehash (that being said BC chews the scenery in the film, i have no issue with his acting as Khan).
Secondly, the logic of going to Kronos and then warping back to Earth. I would have much preferred it to be some Klingon outpost near the neutral zone. The idea that the Enterprise could sneak into the heart of the Klingon empire, fire at the planet and leave stretches credibility to me. Plus, it being some backwater portion of space helps later when the Enterprise gets knocked out of warp behind earths moon and seemly no one notices a battle happening there (I guess you could argue that Marcus being the head of Starfleet could have made sure that the area was clear of any prying eyes, but still).
Like I really love the overall concept, tone and style of the film. But I wish it had gotten another polish in terms of the plot structure.

Agree. Excellent movie. The new "true Trek". Most old-timers are on board. To be sure, both the TOS Kirk and Picard violated the Prime Directive. The so-called "problems" with the story are way overblown. If you want massive plot holes, see the TOS movies. For instance, consider ST II: The Wrath of Kahn:
1. Kahn recognizes Chekov during the first act scene in Ceti Alpha V. Khan specifically says that he "never forgets a face," and remembers Chekov's name. In the TOS episode "Space Seed," Chekov was nowhere to be found, nor was his character even on board the Enterprise at that particular time.
2. Another example, which I always cringe at when rewatching The Wrath of Kahn, is when Scotty carries Preston to the bridge. Suddenly, Scotty emerges from the turbolift carrying young cadet Preston in his arms, which makes no sense. Why would Scotty not immediately rush Preston to sickbay, especially because Preston is still alive? Had Scotty not deviated to the bridge, Preston might have stood a chance of surviving.
The list goes on.

Funny enough, with all the Doctor Strange talk, Marvel used to publish Star Trek comics. They covered everything from the Original Series to The Next Generation and Voyager. There was even an original series called Starfleet Academy (1996–1998), set during Deep Space Nine, following "Omega Squad" through their time at Starfleet Academy.
In 1996, Marvel did a crossover with The X-Men, where the Original Series Enterprise crew teamed up with the X-Men to take on Gary Mitchell, who was possessed by Proteus. There’s even a crossover novel with the Next Generation crew that hilariously points out how much Professor X looks like Captain Picard, years before Patrick Stewart played the role in the movies.
Why the crossover? Well, you wouldn’t know this from the X-Men films, but the comics are full of cosmic stuff like alien empires, intergalactic politics, etc. Cyclops’ dad is a star-faring outlaw, and Professor X even had a relationship with an alien queen, making him king of an intergalactic empire for a bit. Plus, in the 80s and 90s, the X-Men were Marvel’s biggest intellectual property, so a crossover with Star Trek was... well, only logical.

My other main complaint is that nothing in the movie makes sense. It's built around twists and homages to a better movie. Roboadmiral's plan makes no sense. Euro-Khan's plan makes no sense. The opening sequences makes no sense. It's ... an Abrams film. Lots of flash and mystery boxes and no actual substance.

This movie's biggest issues are that it violated a lot of what Trekkies consider to be "true Trek", with stuff like Kirk not caring at all about the Prime Directive and Starfleet being headed by someone who is doing everything he can to start a war with the Klingons, etc.
The other main complaint is that it's way too derivative of Wrath of Khan, replicating exact story beats from that movie. Also that Khan's "super blood" is a deus ex machina which basically ruins the entire universe if you think about it (a liquid that brings the dead back to life?), and that is naturally never mentioned again in any other Trek properties because of this.
If none of those things bother you as a viewer though, then it's a perfectly serviceable action movie in space.

Just FYI, that was not Michael Dorn, but instead was an actor named Beau Billingslea. So no, the guy who played Worf wasn't in this movie.

Don't care what anyone says, Star Trek Into Darkness is great ST cinema, seeing Spock go on a foot chase with Khan was worth every penny in the theater.

Cassie, you have no idea what a thrill it has been to watch along with you through all the generations of Star Trek. I grew up with the original series and have relived the lot with you. Thank you for reliving them with me and for the wonderful memories. ❤️

Glad you liked it. It's always fun to see a movie through your eyes even one I personally dislike. Star Trek Beyond is a bit better, IMHO. But I'm hoping, at some point, you'll get some time to go back to the small screen, where ST is always at its best.

Into Darkness has some issues, but in no way is it the bad film many people make it out to be. When its firing on all cylinders it's a really enjoyable movie. It's probably the best looking Trek has ever been and the score is a 100/100.

I've always thought it was funny the way Benedict Cumberbatch introduces himself in such a dramatic way, when only the audience knows who Khan is. It would be like meeting a stranger and them saying "My name... is FRANK!" Like, "um, okay, nice to meet you, Frank?"

Most of the complaints are unjustified, but my personal complaint on the JJ Trek movies is the rediculous size increase of the Enterprise. It's stupidly caverness inside. It's basically larger then Picards Enterprise D.
Anyways, Love you Love it!
FYI: Who was Kirk's Son's Mother again in the original movies??? ;)
