Comments

It's currently blocked in a lot of countries :(. We submitted a dispute and we're waiting for the result (could be up to 30 days).

Cassie

Why can't I find this on YouTube?

Michael Jennings

Indeed it is

V M

Must be one of the most adapted books in history.

Chris Thom

Those are very outstanding adaptations in my opinion very close to the book. I would recommend you start with the George C Scott. Version.

Doc Larry

Seems like I've read that the 1951 version and the George C. Scott version get the most positive comments.

Clay F

There are many more adaptations. These are just my favorites over the years and that’s the order that I would rank them

Doc Larry

Thanks for the list. The only one I have fully watched (from beginning to end) is A Christmas Carol (1999).

During the Star Trek TNG years, Patrick Stewart was the commercial spokesperson for our "local" (Alaska is huge) statewide telephone company, Alascom, so he was constantly on local television. However, he made an agreement with GCI and the Anchorage Concert Association to come up to Alaska and perform a one-person version of A Christmas Carol every year for several years! It was, of course, a delight for everyone. He even traveled out to off-road communities to perform as well. We felt so darn lucky. Even though Captain Picard spent his life in space, he spent his Christmases in Alaska. (Perhaps he visited Riker's ancestors, since he was born and raised in Willow, Alaska.)

Jack Dalton

Scrooge (1951), retitled A Christmas Carol in the US, starring Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge A Christmas Carol (1984), starring George C. My mother used to ask every year if I could find the Lionel Barrymore version. Every year I told her there wasn't one. I finally figured out that she was remembering the radio show version she heard as a child.

james sweeney

I agree, the Alistair Sim Scrooge is my favorite- his joy is infectious and giddy. I found Stewart’s Scrooge to be a bit odd, as Cassie put it, like coughing up a hairball. I like Stewart as an actor but that performance was not my favorite Scrooge.

Catherine LW

Wish there was a way to somehow mix and match every version of this story to make the perfect adaptation.

Chris Thom

Great reaction Cass, thanks for that Boxing Day present this morning. It’s set me up for the rest of the day😀

Mark White

The Alastair Sim one is the ultimate for me, too. Our family has a special fondness for the Reginald Owen version from about 1938. Owen was a substitute for Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter from "It's A Wonderful Life") when Barrymore's ailments grew too severe to take the role. Barrymore himself suggested Owen.

Very happy holidays to everyone! And here I go with my usual: I think the word you may be looking for is curmudgeonly. Which definitely describes Scrooge! I saw in the YT comments that someone explained the bandage so I'll leave that alone. The book is fairly short, worth the read, and so here are two versions, as a Christmas present, the Gutenberg upload, and a link to the full audiobook - hope you enjoy either or both! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PU-wRyfYaA https://www.gutenberg.org/files/46/46-h/46-h.htm

Except give Cassie her makeout scene with Beverly!

Clarence Newman

I'm up for that, Tim. I think that's the one where Henry's Scrooge starts out all "Humbugamundo!" but ends up calling Bob Cratchit's Mum "Mrs C".

Clarence Newman

Merry Christmas Cassie and PIB Family! For me, while I also love Patrick Stewart and I had high hopes for this version when it came out, it's not my favorite. I still feel the Alistar Sim version from the 1950's is the penultimate, though my second favorite is the Disney Mickey's Christmas Carol with Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer (what casting!). Finally, for a different spin, I also recommend "The Man Who Invented Christmas" for a future Holiday Watch. And, as always, my New Year's Wish for you to watch "The Best of Times"!

Chris Davis

Henry Winkler from Happy Days made for tv I believe. Was my favorite .

Tim C

So many great versions of A Christmas Carol. My favourite has always been the musical, Scrooge with Albert Finney. 🎶Thank you very much, thank you very much..🎶

Art Vandalaay

The word you are looking for is curmudgeon :-) Merry Christmas!

Joel Cagle

Merry Christmas Cassie and Carly and family and everyone!

Mark Daniels

curmudgeonly

Butterfingers Pollock

This version stays very close to the book.

james sweeney

I also recommend "A Christmas Carol" (2009) starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge. It's one of the creepiest things I watched as a child, but I love it. Out of all the adaptations, it's my favorite. A Christmas Carol (2009) is incredibly faithful, almost to a fault. None of the dialogue feels updated, even including the strange and dark elements from the original novel that these past films left out or altered. Tweaking things to appeal more to younger audiences or just trying to make the story more wholesome. A Christmas Carol (2009) doesn't hold back.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Yup, part of my collection.

Chrismyster

There's nothing Patrick Stewart can't do.🎄🎁✨️

Hope everyone has a great Christmas!
