Clint Eastwood Director Poll

Our director’s poll from last week was a runaway for Mr. Edgewood ;)

I had no idea he had directed SO many movies, I am very excited about this list, it was tough to narrow it down! I think I will watch the top 2!

Also to mention, I have already watched Sully, American Sniper and Changeling off channel. Unforgiven and Gran Torino on the channel! I am 98.6 percent sure I have not seen Million Dollar Baby so I included it on the poll

Comments

Love "Pale Rider".

Doug Fisher

Not on here but Trouble with a Curve. Later movie Baseball Scout and his Lawyer Daughter. Really Good Movie.

Tim C

I wish I had a Million Dollar Baby. I'd have to sell it though. I need dough and plenty of it.

V M

It's one his most decorated movies. But yeah you're probably right.

Chris Thom

Oh right that's the one that ends in Jackson Hole by the antlers.

Chris Thom

Top 5 1. MDB (2004) - 430 2. The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) - 361 3. Mystic River (2003) - 260 4. Heartbreak Ridge (1986) - 225 5. Pale Rider (1985) - 211 Would have been nice to see Pale Rider surge to 3rd, but I am ok with Mystic River (or Heartbreak Ridge). A lot of good choices and variety in this poll.

Clay F

'Breezy' is a very underrated May-December romance from the early 70s. It features an idyllic California before it became over-developed

Neighbourhood Watch Alliance

Kelley's Heros is a must. A fun movie. And easily rewatchable. "Woof, woof, woof - that's my other dog." Happy to see that Cassie has put up a director's poll. I'd like to see additional director's polls as a regular, say monthly, feature.

RandyCC

A lot of bad movies have won a lot of awards. Why do you think people think the Oscars get it wrong more than they get it right? Remember Driving Miss Daisy? American Beauty? How have those wins aged...? I'll give you a hint. Not Well.

Robert Baldino

I still contend that you stole your name from ExploreRegina😂

Cole Jennett

Yep, MDB definitely suceeded as "Oscar Bait". Won 4 Oscars: --Best Picture --Best Director (Eastwood) --Best Actress (Hillary Swank) --Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman) Bad. Very bad.

Clay F

My suspicion is that most people don't even know about it.

Stick Figure Studios

I think there must have been some election-meddling! A Perfect World should be running away with it!

bgb1975

Wow, I actually thought that a Clint Eastwood / Kevin Costner team up movie might do well here. Shocked and shook.

Uncle Phoenix

Yeah it’s definitely one of the most underrated films he’s been in or directed.

Dean Holt

Though Clint didn't direct it (but starred in it), I REALLY hope that Kelly's Heroes ends up on a future poll. It's one of my all time favorite films, and also an absolutely excellent film with one of the best, most satisfying endings in film history. Tell Cassie to make it so people.

Daniel Allen

Eeexxxactly!!!

Clarence Newman

"Pale Rider," the most underrated of all of Eastwood's several underrated directorial efforts. And Cassie, you should know it borrows heavily from "Shane," and is therefore tied to "Logan" in spirit. Not trying to sway you. Promise.

Dave Sees Movies

I would throw a flag for gross exaggeration, Gary, but.....I'd only have to pick it up again.

Clarence Newman

https://youtu.be/ZqZdfxc-fq0?t=87&feature=shared

rakesh

If you want Cassie to watch Kevin Costner as a bad guy, give her Mr. Brooks (2007) as a serial killer and 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001) with both Kevin and Kurt Russell as Elvis impersonators robbing a casino. And anyone that knows Kurt Russell's history - the man can play Elvis.

crazyivan

"Everybody everywheres 'll say that Clint Eastwood is the biggest yellow-belly in the west"

bgb1975

Yes! Tell 'em, Gary! APW blows MDB away! I keep pushing that it also stars Kevin Costner, whom she loves, in the hope that she'll watch it regardless of the election results!

bgb1975

How is a Perfect World so far behind? This movie was designed in a lab by scientists for Cassie!

Gary Giaimo

Yep, content of the film is irrelevant, Clay, What I meant was that Eddie finished outside the medals (the top 3 Olympic movies Cassie intended to watch anyway), but she ended up watching it because we persuaded her to do so. Given that she absolutely LOVED that movie, the Eddie the Eagle clause is now an officially sanctioned tactic.

Clarence Newman

Monkeys are a much-maligned species. No matter what kind of ape, gorilla, orang-utan or pygmy marmoset you're referring to, they all get upset if you call them a monkey.

Clarence Newman

OUTLAW JOSEY WALES will break up the darkness.

Stick Figure Studios

Thanks for ruining my dreams mike. Now off to watch planet of the apes.

rakesh

I chose my fav mystic river for me but then I chose invictus and Madison county for cassie

ExploreWinnipeg

Flags of our Fathers and Letters to Iwo Jima need a special watch

ExploreWinnipeg

Hopefully these are for after Christmas, because if it ends up being "Million Dollar Baby" and "Mystic River," it will break her.

Lawrance Bernabo

It's a great film.

Stick Figure Studios

In The Line of Fire is on the channel

David Freese

GUYS. WHY. Million Dollar Baby??? REALLY??? You guys are sadists.

Dan W

Not a monkey, but https://www.yahoo.com/news/charla-nash-whose-face-ripped-013200027.html

Mike Lemon

I know he didnt direct it , but i have A soft spot for any which way but loose. Growing up there was a spate of movies the tv shows that matched man with Monkey. BJ and the bear, Mr Smith and this. hell. even micheal jackson had bubbles. gutted i never got the chance to own a monkey

rakesh

But I’m full of regret. 😂

Lyle Morgan

But you did watch it once. Cassie deserves that opportunity as well.

Stick Figure Studios

I loved MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL.

Stick Figure Studios

SILVERADO is a tremendous amount of fun, but it's also aimed at a younger audience. PALE RIDER is a more "mature" western.

Stick Figure Studios

I enjoyed HEARTBREAK RIDGE well enough, but would definitely put it near the lower end of Eastwood's filmography (though it was kind of impressive how many cliches and old tropes he managed to fit into the flick).

Stick Figure Studios

He also sings in HONKYTONK MAN.

Stick Figure Studios

I love HONKYTONK MAN. One of Eastwood's "sweeter" and more tender films.

Stick Figure Studios

My favorite on this list I think is Letters to Iwo Jima.

YodatheHobbit

The third place Mystic River (2003) and fourth place Heartbreak Ridge (1986) are truly different in content and tenor than Eddie the Eagle. Though, I guess she could exercise the Eddie the Eagle clause for any movie for any reason? The last place Invictus (2009) is more like Eddie the Eagle. I think Cassie would like Invictus (2009) the most of the movies in the poll. I voted for Invictus (2009). I prefer the two westerns but I do like Invictus (2009). Invictus (2009) was one of Gábor's 5 picks as trivia winner earlier this year. Cassie went with his pick of "In the Heat of the Night (1967)," which I was ecstatic. Cassie indicated she was going to also react to Invictus (2009) as her second choice of his picks, but Invictus (2009) is now showing up in polls. I am glad that The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) will finish in 2nd place. I don't mind MDB (2004) winning.

Clay F

For Donald Sutherland, it was The Eagle Has Landed, then Eye Of The Needle, the Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. I didn’t recognize him in Animal House the first time I saw it.

2-Can

Oh, sorry for yet another Clint Eastwood flick, but this one he DID direct...: "Honkytonk Man" - from the early 80s - Clint and real-life son Kyle acts in this, and it's a very lowkey and softer portrayal from Clint Eastwood ... a really moving film experience - even with Clint doing the music and singing...

Jens Kristensen

Found out that Kelly's Hero was base on a loosely base true story

JarHead0351

Well, you know, different strokes for different folks. Frankly, I'm not too big on HEARTBREAK RIDGE myself, but other people here seem to love it. To each his own.

Stick Figure Studios

Kelly's Heroes made me a Donald Sutherland fan, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot made me a Jeff Bridges fan.

Clarence Newman

Redneck cinema at its finest.

Stick Figure Studios

Eastwood Ravine

Stick Figure Studios

If you didn't point it out, Clarence, I was going to.

Stick Figure Studios

Sometimes, Ivan, "tender" is what you get from an ass-whupping. This great film has both kinds.

Clarence Newman

Looks like Heartbreak Ridge is going to finish out of the medals. Therefore, I think Cassie needs to invoke the Eddie the Eagle clause.

Clarence Newman

Sorry Jeff, my OCD has been triggered. Every Which Way was the first one, Any Which Way was the second.

Clarence Newman

Cassie's tough enough. In the Star Trek 2009 reaction, she told Kirk to kick someone in the nuts.

Clarence Newman

I think he was tapping into the kind of stuff Burt Reynolds was suddenly hitting home runs with. Every Which Way came out the year after Smokey and the Bandit and had the same overall vibe - good ole country boys having not-too-serious adventures that would send the audience home smiling. Easy money for the likes of Burt and Clint.

Clarence Newman

You can vote for more than one

Robert Nelson

I do enjoy the “Any which ways” and the Dirty Harry movies. Cassie has seen “In the line fire” she really enjoyed it and it was a great reaction.

Mark White

Sooooooo many good Eastwood directorial efforts to choose from. This list could keep you busy for a while! I think I have Pale Rider on my list to get to sometime this coming year.

Rick Moreno

Good movies, but he didn't direct those.

Rick Moreno

"What kind of stupid name is that?"

V M

Yep….ok…..that does make sense. Once again the master schools the apprentice! 😉😂

Mark White

Chris Isaak on the soundtrack is a perfect reason for anyone to watch a film!

Above Average Dave

Some of it is indeed quite sad and brutal (although not nearly as much as the other two movies currently in the lead: MILLION DOLLAR BABY and MYSTIC RIVER), but some of it is quite funny and I would argue that *SPOILERS AHEAD* the development of Josey finding a surrogate family is very heartwarming given his tragic history. At the end of the movie, he gets his revenge and rides off not into the stereotypical sunset but rather into the sunrise indicating a positive and hopeful future for him. So, yeah, like THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, there's some darkness in it, but I would still characterize it as ultimately heartwarming (if one is paying attention). It's like the reverse JEREMIAH JOHNSON. Frank Darabont said in an interview that it's as if Frank Capra directed a Western and I agree with that. What I was responding to was the suggestion that it being too old would be problematic for Cassie. I don't think that at all and I highlighted the other aspects of it that I thought would appeal to her.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh, it makes sense in retrospect why it was successful, but at the time everybody in the industry was absolutely shocked that it did so well. Eastwood was told he was crazy for doing the movie, but he laughed all the way to the bank.

Stick Figure Studios

I second Mark's suggestion, Cassie. Watch the top three and make it a theme week. Then you can do SPACE COWBOYS as a PPOTM later. You won't regret it.

Stick Figure Studios

I've always had a soft spot for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot - picks up on the cynicism of Korean War veterans (and has a young Dude for Cassie). I'm a little surprised nobody has tried a remake.

2-Can

I suspect most people haven't even heard of it let alone seen it.

Stick Figure Studios

Me too, but this list is no slouch.

Stick Figure Studios

Whoops it's right there in the post. My bad.

Chris Thom

In the Line of Fire....Any Which Way but Loose / You Can. The Dirty Harry series...so many to list

Jeff Vargas

Another reason I want Cassie to watch either Space Cowboys or one of the other more light hearted movies is because million dollar and Josey Wales can be abit…..🤔 ummmm heavy, dark, tough for want of better words! I wouldn’t like Cassie thinking all Clint’s movies are like this. I don’t want her to be put off watching more in the future. There really is some fun, enjoyable Eastwood movies Cassie would love.

Mark White

Gotta love Kelly’s hero’s! Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, the irrepressible Don Rickles and of course Donald Sutherland. Woof woof woof!! 😂

Mark White

You already did my favorite Clint Eastwood movie: Back to the Future Part 3!!

Alan Kobb

Oh my God please give me a break.......... Watch 'Kelly's heroes" and have some real fun for a change . It's a fantastic movie with a fantastic cast

(Nolo)finwe

I am so sad that Clint Eastwood’s movie “Absolute Power” wasn’t on the list.

Uncle Phoenix

I mean by talking about “endings” and how they would make her feel.

Cole Jennett

"Paint Your Wagon" Heck yeah!!!

BRT

I love that film. "Wandrin' Star" was a number one single in the UK.

Clarence Newman

Space Cowboys! You two would love it.

Nick Thousan

A singing Clint Eastwood, Cassie be like, "Stop it...that's gonna haunt my nightmares", lol.

Joe

I voted for "The Outlaw Josey Wales", looks like it might get 2nd.

Joe

LOL - I was looking for the 1969 musical starring him and Lee Marvin, before I realized that it was only films he DIRECTED. Ah well - I feel like Cassie would love that one. "Got a dream, boys, Got a song..."

Story Archer

Honestly you can't go wrong here. Personally I voted for Mystic River, but I'll be happy with the outcome whatever it turns out to be.

Ian Tonge

Can’t say without spoilers

Neil Varma

Invictus is in last place?!? That's unpossible!

Hutch

It's a really good film and I think an important historical incident that's important to know about.

BRT

I used to watch that show with my Grandpaw every Saturday morning and I learned several leadership traits watching Mr. Favor and the gang.

Jeb Ledbetter

"Through rain and wind and weather, Hell-bent for leather, Wishing my gal was by my side, All the things I'm missin', Good vittles, love and kissin' Are waitin' at the end of my ride!" What's not to love?!?!

BRT

Yep, but she reads the comments so this stuff will be going in. The day will come when she'll Popcorn pick it.

Clarence Newman

And Ivan....Mario Van Peebles is loud enough in that movie to make up for Clint's "I'm Batman" impression.

Clarence Newman

"With all due respect, sir, you're beginning to bore the hell out of me."

Clarence Newman

You do know what this movie is about, right? The two characters may have formed a bond, but tender? I think you're stretching it a bit. It's an escaped convict that kidnaps a child in the middle of a manhunt.

crazyivan

I had little doubt MDB would win if it's included in the poll. I personally am not really fond of that movie, but I know how popular it is. I'm just disappointed to see how far behind some of these great movies are, especially on a multi-choice poll. It means a reaction to these is highly unlikely to happen, unless they end up being PPotM or someone's monthly pick, if that becomes a regular thing.

Gábor Árki

You might want to turn the volume way up - Clint's performance as a gunnery sergeant is a little low-key...Never knew sergeants were so quite...No Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil on the poll?

crazyivan

This is a relatively stressless poll for me, as I love four of the movies, like most of the others and trust the quality of the ones I haven't seen. I don't love Million Dollar Baby, but Cassie needs to watch a movie like that once in a while. It's quality is undeniable.

Clarence Newman

The Outlaw Josey Wales and Pale Rider are great. My favorite Clint Eastwood role however is in the 1959 western series Rawhide in which he played Rowdy Yates, Gil Favor’s (Eric Fleming) second in command. Rawhide might be considered formulaic and cheesy by today’s standards but it harkens back to a time of morals and values and virtues which unfortunately seems to be a product of a bygone era. If you are able to find it, do yourself a favor and watch Rawhide!

Jeb Ledbetter

High quality! I like them both very much...

Jens Kristensen

No, that's true... Just wanted to mention them for inspiration... he has done some fantastic movies over the years...

Jens Kristensen

And some other stuff, which no one enjoys. MDB is a bad, manipulative movie. It's what's known as "Oscar Bait."

Robert Baldino

Not enough people have seen it. MDB, the Best Picture winner (which is now regarded as one of the times the Academy blew it) is of course winning.

Robert Baldino

Dirty harry should be your next Eastwood movie as a police detective

harvard

I do like Invictus. MDB is the clear winner.

Clay F

I think she should throw in Invictus with the top two. She would love it. She already alluded to reacting to Invictus in the past.

Clay F

CASSIE, do your self a favour and make it a trio, Clint week! And stick Space Cowboys in with the top two. I’m not a fan, but many people are and you definitely will be.

Mark White

I’m with you Tommy! Not directed by him, but, a watch that Cassie would enjoy along with the sequel.

Mark White

I agree and it’s got Kevin Costner in it, so hopefully Cassie will pick this to watch anyway at some point in the near future.

Mark White

Yes, and they watched Legends of the Fall. And LOVED it. As did I. And I’ve watched it numerous times since then. Idk why they keep saying oh don’t watch this one. ? I know you’re as frustrated & confused as I am. lol

Carol Rocha

Me too

Carol Rocha

Me either, Mike, as far as the war/military ones.

Carol Rocha

Your prerogative.

Carol Rocha

100%

Carol Rocha

Again , thank you Dan!!

Carol Rocha

Hello!!!!! Thank you, Dan!

Carol Rocha

Absolutely. That’s a lame reason for her not to watch. She’s watched many films, with every possible outcome. Don’t sell her short

Carol Rocha

Absolutely

Carol Rocha

??

Carol Rocha

Well said, well said.

Carol Rocha

Again, I say “suffer”?? She just had to choke down Bad Santa & Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Carol Rocha

I thought Silverado was great. And Cassie had a blast watching Kevin Costner! Lol.

Carol Rocha

I could stand the odd Cary Grant amongst the Clints, Mike. He was a borderline decent thespian of the old school and I myself have a couple of his movies on my list. Plus Cassie needs more Grace Kelly.

Clarence Newman

I just think to myself, let’s see something else besides war/military right now.

Carol Rocha

I love heartbreak ridge too. It's quintessential Clint Eastwood.

Nim

ABSOLUTELY!! There’s not one reason why she shouldn’t watch this.

Carol Rocha

Now you've gone too far. If we have a Clint Eastwood year before a Cary Grant year, I riot!

Mike LL

Huh?? NO ONE?? And in MDB you get a sports movie & Morgan Freeman.

Carol Rocha

You are so right. I voted for Mystic River.

Mike LL

Don’t think it should win. It’s long and kinda slow IMO. But I think at some point, C & C would both enjoy it

Carol Rocha

That film's been discussed before, including by Cassie, so I'm thinking the only reason it's not on the poll (why wouldn't it be otherwise?) is because she's planning to watch it anyway. Fingers crossed.

Clarence Newman

Absolutely

Carol Rocha

This has bugged me for years. I watched Gladiator in theatres upon release but I'm absolutely adamant that buffalo soldiers was the first time I saw Joaquin phoenix. His performance was so good that I knew he was one to watch for the future. I check his filmography and buffalo soldiers "officially" came out after gladiator. This was of course a time when I watched a lot of movies through less conventional methods if you know what I mean.

Nim

Seriously! I’m not sure why no one wants her to see MDB. She most certainly can handle it. . I’m not sure who voted BAD SANTA & KISS KISS BANG BANG for CHRISTMAS movies, but I think it was Patreon. 😵‍💫 R rated and horrible Christmas movies for young women like Cassie and/or Carly IMO. Bad Santa is one of the most disgusting movies I’ve ever tried to watch. Comedy is one thing, but… trash is another. Just a little venting.

Carol Rocha

Again, ??

Carol Rocha

Absolute Power is great. The Mule is a good movie. Not a great movie.

Carol Rocha

?

Carol Rocha

Why not Mystic River? It’s a great movie.

Carol Rocha

Agreed.

Nim

Firefox is great

Carol Rocha

Sports, Morgan Freeman + Clint Eastwood IN the movie as well—Million Dollar Baby😊

Carol Rocha

Not always a bad thing, Nim. Though my heart is currently being wrenched by the lack of love for Heartbreak Ridge.

Clarence Newman

Every little bit helps.

Clarence Newman

Great list. A couple of classic westerns, a few war movies, a sports drama, a beautiful love story. I chose none of those of course and instead voted for the most soul destroying, heart-wrenching tragedies on the list.

Nim

I'm considering a hunger strike! Or standing outside the Utah post office with a Perfect World sign for the next 8 months! I think I'm getting my first character-building PiB poll exercise with this one.

bgb1975

Occasionally this is true, bgb, but more often than not, I could paraphrase Dom DeLuise in The End (1978)...."Out of the mouth of Clarence always comes ka-ka!" And you're clearly biased about A Perfect World, on the grounds that it is absolutely the best Clint Eastwood-directed film our Popcorn poppet could watch, and depriving her of it is just an affront to the spirit of Christmas.

Clarence Newman

MDB is overrated. I voted for Invictus.

John Cranberry

I've said this before, Cassie...in the words of Ted Theodore Logan...listen to this guy Clarence, he knows what he's talking about!

bgb1975

You tell her, Kuskesh!

bgb1975

YES! YESYESYESYESYES!

bgb1975

APW is so so good! Also with Kevin Costner, whom Cassie likes! I need to see Invictus.

bgb1975

Cassie needs to stop messing about and just have a Clint Eastwood year.

Clarence Newman

It really makes me sad that I know A Perfect World isn't going to win. It's such an underrated movie that deserves to be seen, and I know Cassie would love it. I also just noticed that she has it labeled as being from 1983, but it's from 1993

Holly

Cassie, you'd love "A perfect World" its the most TENDER of this list. Please select that as a runner up for your own satisfaction!

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Letters to Iwo Jiwa is incredible

Tyler

It's a poll of movies directed by Clint Eastwood.

Stephen Last

Ummm…stick…now I’m not criticising in any way! And I have great respect for your encyclopaedic knowledge of movies, But, saying Josey wales is “heartwarming”?! 🤔 I’m not so sure I would use that word to describe this fantastic movie. Are you getting a little carried away there? 😆 it is many great things, but heartwarming is arguable. Especially if you are a female character in this movie! I would say some of it, is quite brutal, but it’s been along time since I last watched it. I guess we all look at things slightly differently😄

Mark White

Why no "Every which way but loose"? A true funny classic!

Tommy Bessinger

This was post-Vietnam America, Stick, so moviegoers wanted some light fun stuff to watch. Remember, Smokey and the Bandit was second only to Star Wars at the box office in 1977.

Clarence Newman

We would be arguing flavours of ice cream, Clay. Both are winners (and should therefore be watched regardless of where they finish in this poll.) This is Clint, after all. Watching just two of his films is like putting just one or two Jessicas on your celebrity list.

Clarence Newman

It would be fun to see Cassie watch The Gauntlet, if only to hear her repeat her iconic line from Predator, when Arnie and the guys were strafing the forest with everything they had.... "Maybe save some!"

Clarence Newman

It's a great point, Cole, but it's real hard to do that sometimes - especially if your reaction to a certain movie's presence on the poll is either "YYYYESSSSSSS!!!!" or "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Good rule of thumb, though.

Clarence Newman

I like Heartbreak Ridge, but I would keep Pale Rider over Heartbreak Ridge.

Clay F

Invictus (2009) (one of my favorites in the poll) is in last place.

Clay F

Oh, typical. The two I would have liked the most, INVICTUS and A PERFECT WORLD, are among the last.

Gábor Árki

And Cassie loves her some Costner.

Clarence Newman

I've just checked the voting and I need to request she watches the top 9! That's the only way she's going to snag all of my faves.

Clarence Newman

See the text: "I have already watched Sully, American Sniper and Changeling off channel"

Gábor Árki

Overall, there's nothing particularly new about the Pale Rider story. But then you add Clint in iconic form, plus a strong performance from Michael Moriarty, and all of a sudden, it's hard not to care.

Clarence Newman

Yes I hope somewhere down the road it comes up for her and Carly to sit and enjoy.

Keith Brown

Polls be crazy sometimes.

Clarence Newman

Sorry, Stick. It's the other way around for me.

Clarence Newman

I'd swap Heartbreak Ridge for Pale Rider, but I wouldn't be sad to see any of those. Academic, of course, because they're all lagging.

Clarence Newman

I'd love her to see Heartbreak Ridge. Iconic Eastwood.

Clarence Newman

I can't complain because I'm getting one of my top picks next month, but neither of mine are going to win here. I voted for Heartbreak Ridge and A Perfect World.

Clarence Newman

Why's that, Craig? The only reason she's mentioned those is to inform people of what she's watched already (so they don't have to ask why it's not on the poll, which happens every time) and to point out that she may or may not have seen Million Dollar Baby. What problem does it cause?

Clarence Newman

I wish you would have included Changeling (2008) on the list of Eastwood directed movies. Even though it is not that old, it has become a forgotten, underrated gem.

Strangelove50

Actually, as much as I love SPACE COWBOYS, I don't know that I would put it in my top 10 of movies he's directed (though I would almost certainly put it in my top 20). That's not a dig against it so much as it's just an indicator of how truly excellent his films typically are.

Stick Figure Studios

Yes, bad movies have won Best Picture before, but I don't think MDB is one of them. If you personally don't care for it, if you personally find it manipulative and punishing, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion obviously and I'm sure there are people that agree with you, but believe it or not, maybe there are also others who feel differently from you. Maybe some other people actually think it's good, actually find it impeccably crafted, well-acted and emotional (like most of Eastwood's films). So, as long as you're making assumptions about other people's motivations, try taking into consideration the possibility that the reason why it could be winning the poll might not be because people who saw it really don't want to see it again and just want to see Cassie suffer. It might -- just might -- actually be because people think it's worth seeing and want Cassie to see it. I mean, it's certainly possible, right?

Stick Figure Studios

In the text above, she says "I have already watched Sully, American Sniper and Changeling off channel."

Clay F

no sully?

pat on

THE GAUNTLET is fun.

Stick Figure Studios

Love BRONCO BILLY and Cassie would love it too, but it's one of his earlier films and not as well known as most of his others.

Stick Figure Studios

There is an aspect of MDB that I don't like in my old age (and with me being arguably irrational). However, MDB is an incredible movie. Won 4 Oscars: --Best Picture --Best Director (Eastwood) --Best Actress (Hillary Swank) --Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman) Nominated for 7 Oscars including Eastwood for Best Actor.

Clay F

Plus, I love the title song. Eddie Rabbit I think.

Shawn Kildal

Escape from Alcatraz is exceptional! Hopefully, one day.

Shawn Kildal

They would love Invictus I think.

Clay F

Oh damn, an hour ago it was winning.

Zane From Canada

I voted for it. She would probably like it the best of all of them.

bknsty14

That’s a fantastic movie and the acting is off the charts. It’s a shame that’s not to 2. That is a movie she would really like.

bknsty14

While the actors are older, it is a stacked cast of actors that I like, and Space Cowboys (a good movie) has its moments. Yet, I am not a big fan. If Space Cowboys were in the poll, I would not vote for it. I think Cassie would like (love) Invictus. Users at IMDb give a higher average rating for movies in the poll. IMDb 6.5, RT 78% -- Space Cowboys (2000) IMDb 7.3, RT 76% -- Invictus (2009) IMDb 7.3, RT 93% -- Pale Rider (1985) IMDb 7.5, RT 78% -- A Perfect World (awesome performance by Costner)

Clay F

SLIGHT SPOILERS FOLLOW: MDB is a very manipulative film, and has no real cultural footprint, beyond being a movie widely regarded as an incredible bummer that basically punishes you for watching it. Also, a lot of bad movies have won Best Picture...

Robert Baldino

Ok, Cassie, you need to stop mentioning movie titles when you are introducing a poll.

Craig Russell

White Hunter, Black Heart is quite interesting.

Robert Baldino

For me it is The Outlaw Josey Wales. Funny thing about Heartbreak Ridge is they used my old teaching range in the Marines in the movie and the barracks (were the real Recon Plt barracks) were up the road from my barracks.

JarHead0351

“Escape from Alcatraz” is a big favorite of mine. Danny Glover's (minor role) first movie.

Clay F

A kind of forgotten one that I liked he directed in 1980 was "Bronco Billy". Eastwood refers to it as his salute to director Frank("It's a Wonderful Life") Capra's kind of picture.

Keith Brown

Stick, I am curious with you going through Clint Eastwood catalog, is Space Cowboys in your top 5 or top 10? I’ve noticed much clamoring for Pale Rider in the comments.

Clay F

Or do a follow up Clint Eastwood poll with Space Cowboys in the poll. The poll could additionally include movies in which Eastwood is an actor without requirement that he be the director?

Clay F

Gosh I wish "Play Misty for Me" was on the list. "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" are my pics.

BRT

Oh Iowa interesting. Was going to guess Missouri. Not too far off.

Chris Thom

Mystic River is one of those films where there's not a weak performance from anyone.

Zane From Canada

Hey everyone. You can vote and have discussions without setting expectations for movies she has not seen.

Cole Jennett

Probably going to have to use a PPotM on Bridges of Madison County someday. It's a sappy chick flick so it won't get any traction here. :D

David Collins

Lotta good movies here but I’m only voting for “Invictus.” That’s the best movie for you…sports, true story, Morgan Freeman… Please get to it eventually.

Mark Daniels

No mention of “The Gauntlet” I always kinda liked that one. Plus “Escape from Alcatraz” he didn’t direct it, but thats a big Eastwood favourite of mine.

Mark White

Heartbreak Ridge & Josey Wales are my picks, Richard Jewell is very good as well. I thought Million Dollar Baby was I bit dull tbh, so obviously that looks like winning 😂😂. Shame Firefox & Space Cowboy isn’t on the list as SC is a really fun film with a great cast. Might be wrong but Flags & Letters (the last two on the list) are connected. They are two films I’ve not watched yet but have been on my watch list for ages.

Dean Holt

Pale rider!!!!!!!!

V M

There's one film I'd love to have seen on this called WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART since it's about the making of a film you've already seen, THE AFRICAN QUEEN and because it's such a.brilliant as well as underrated film, but that's okay since I picked ones I think YOU would like the most. Like I really like BRONCO BILLY, a Clint film provably nobody remembers, but it has themes Eastwood is best at. ❤️ and Best Wishes ☝️

Robert Jewell

Someone online ruined the end of Million Dollar Baby for me so I’ve never seen it, but I probably would have voted for Outlaw Josey Wales and Pale Rider anyway.

Richard Maurer

A lot of mentions for “SPACE COWBOYS” I know this is going to be a unpopular opinion but I’m not a fan. It just never did anything for me. BUT, if it was on the list I would defiantly vote for it. I think it would be a favourite of Cassie’s and thus you would get a great reaction.

Mark White

Pale Rider . . . my favorite western. But I haven't seen many.

Rob

She has said that she might pick it as a PPOTM.

Stick Figure Studios

Perfect scenario. One classic western and one top notch academy drama.

Shawn Kildal

Would have loved Space Cowboys to be on the poll too as others have said, but my second choice The Outlaw Josey Wales has a chance.

Gray

My apologies. :-/

Stick Figure Studios

"Clock's ticking, Bob, and I'm only getting older."

Stick Figure Studios

Stick, stop making downright excellent points in front of my wife (you’re right) . 😄

Ike

Space Cowboys (2000) is an at least once a year watch for me. Just sayin. I’m ready to make it twice this time. I’ll ride this bandwagon into next year. ;-)

Larry Darrell

Oh, she's already seen several of the movies he's directed: UNFORGIVEN and GRAN TORINO on the channel and AMERICAN SNIPER, SULLY and CHANGELING off the channel.

Stick Figure Studios

Space Cowboys Popcorn Pick! Space Cowboys Popcorn Pick! Space Cowboys Popcorn Pick!

Larry Darrell

I agree - I just don’t want Cassie to see it. Especially as an introduction to Eastwood directorial films.

Ike

It’s going to have to be “Perfect World” and “Pale Rider” for me

Mark White

Well… gotta go with HEARTBREAK RIDGE (a Me & Dad classic) and BRIDGES OVER MADISON COUNTY. … but man, there are some big ones missing. Especially without the “Director” caveat. I mean, we’re talking Clint Eastwood here, so good ahead, make my day and vote for Million Dollar… and ask yourself if you feel lucky. Well, do ya, punk? 😑😑😑

Ike

I still need to see J. EDGAR. As for HOWARD THE DUCK, that was the YT members that voted for that one, not the Patreon community (which has a better taste in movies). Unlike HOWARD THE DUCK, which is just a lousy film, MILLION DOLLAR BABY is excellent.

Stick Figure Studios

100% spoiler here! Please don’t discuss parts of a movie before she’s seen it.

Dan M

Yeah I know, but it’s worth a mention, it’s a Fun movie.

Mark White

I'm not sure if the whole movie was filmed in Madison County but the scene at Roseman Bridge was filmed at the actual bridge in Winterset, Iowa.

psu01414

Buffalo Soldiers (2001) is another great movie about the American Army in the 80s.

Jacob King

EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE is fun and was shockingly successful at the box office that year... but Eastwood didn't direct it.

Stick Figure Studios

A Perfect World (1993) would be such a good movie for Cassie to watch.

Larry Darrell

If you’re looking for a Carly episode it has to be Invictus otherwise Mystic River.

Jacob King

Three thumbs up for that idea, Cassie!

Dan M

And I just did…thanks Sick!

Dan M

Impossible choice! So many great movies! And so many not even on the list. Cassie, I’m more of a Pale rider or outlaw Josey wales fan. But I believe you would love “Space Cowboys” and enjoy “Absolute Power” also “Every which way but loose” is fun.

Mark White

Stick nailed it. I would also like to add: J. EDGAR (DiCaprio). please, oh please… don’t watch Million Dollar Baby (is this the Howard the Duck crew voting?)

Ike

Oh, she'll love JOSEY WALES. '76 is nothing at this point. Plus, it's just a marvelous, often funny and heartwarming film.

Stick Figure Studios

Richard Jewel and Flags/letters please ! DO NOT watch Mystic River

Neil Varma

Heartbreak Ridge is one of the best movies about the rebuilding of the American military in the 1980's ever made IMO. The morass of Vietnam gutted our military ethics and methods so thoroughly we would have suffered severe losses in a stand up fight with a professional military. In 1979-80 US military bases from several branches were organizing buses to carry the dependent wives to the welfare office en masse so they could collect food stamps because pay for enlisted personnel was so bad the married ones all qualified for assistance. The simple fact is the US military had become dependent on the draft to fill its ranks and when the draft ended the switch to an all volunteer force did not go well because the lousy pay and benefits were not attractive at all to the average young American. By 1986 when Heartbreak Ridge is set we had turned the corner and the military was actually tightening standards to turn away volunteers they could not take.

Allen W. McDonnell

You can vote for more than one.

Stick Figure Studios

How about we don’t talk about parts of the movie, and setting expectations.🤷‍♂️ Like why?

Cole Jennett

Geeze didn't realize he was that prolific.

Chris Thom

WARNING!! DO NOT WATCH MILLION DOLLAR BABY CASSIE!!

orc_daddy

I second that Cassie/Carly watch, Madison County, together. However, even though I voted for, Million Dollar Baby, Cassie is going to be absolutely crushed as I was. She may need to visit Costco to get a pallet of tissue paper for this one

Anjolie Lanel

Feel like Mystic River is more of a questionable vote for some reason.

Chris Thom

Oh dang. That kind of surprises me.

Chris Thom

Oh good one. Keep forgetting about that. Probably would've voted for that too.

Chris Thom

It's a lot of fun.

Stick Figure Studios

so many comments for space cowboy, might need to popcorn pick that one

Cassie

Wow, no Silverado until just recently? Bummer. I was still underage in 1985 and Silverado was a fun flick that my dad took me and my brother to see. I didn't see Pale Rider until much later. Pale Rider and Unforgiven are a pair of my favorites of the genre.

Javier Hernandez

No FIREFOX. No SPACE COWBOYS. NO ABSOLUTE POWER. No TRUE CRIME. No BRONCO BILLY. No HONKYTONK MAN. No MULE. No CRY MACHO. Lot of good Eastwood movies missing. The man has directed 40 films after all.

Stick Figure Studios

I don't understand why people feel the need to spoil movies on here. It's ridiculous how many people will say spoiler-ish stuff just because they want to complain and whine.

Johnny

The Outlaw Joey Wales (watched many times and thus nostalgia) is my favorite Eastwood western, even more than his spaghetti westerns, though I recognize that Unforgiven is his masterpiece. The Outlaw Joey Wales might be a little old for Cassie — I don’t know.

Clay F

Firefox wasn't on the list so I vote under protest

Ryan Geiger

I hope you get to check out Space Cowboys at some point, with Clint and other great actors. Very funny, very tender movie!

DSM The Editor

I always thought A Perfect World was underrated too, still remember that one from like 1994. (Pretty sure it was released in '93, not '83.)

Ian Hunter (NewbieInOttawa)

Recently watched "Play Misty For Me" for the first time (I don't do reactions). I'm so sorry, but total 70s horrible joke! If watching solely for directing, it had it's moments. Love the long shots in nature and you realize, she's watching. As soon as you realize, you start looking and there she is. But the violent scenes were 100% destroyed by the red paint, thick and viscous, reflecting the light. It looks like paint! Just ruined everything. The way Jar Jar Binx destroyed the whole Star Wars franchise for some, the red paint destroyed Misty for me. Go Flags and Letters!

Jack Dalton

What state was the movie filmed in?

Chris Thom

I agree. I this this is as good as almost anything Eastwood has directed….and this may be Costner’s best performance IMO.

BD Williams

Bridges of Madison County would be a good cassie/carly watch. I am also voting million dollar baby.

Adam Doyle

Both Pale Rider and Silverado released in 1985. Pale Rider had the bigger box office than Silverado and to this day has the better reviews. Pale Rider took in over $41 million at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Western of the 1980s. I was 22 in 1985 and have watched Pale Rider many times over the years. I never heard of Silverado until earlier this year when I did a first watch (maybe I had vaguely heard of Silverado but never watched it), and while it not the typical western style I go for, I liked Silverado (entertaining). But I have a lot of nostalgia for Pale Rider and The Outlaw Josey Wales -- two of my favorite westerns.

Clay F

It was the original FATAL ATTRACTION.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, I know what the group will likely pick but Cassie and Carly will love-love-love THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. Personally, I think LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA is one of the best war movies made in the last 30 years.

Above Average Dave

Outlaw Josey Wales is a good movie. But I agree with Pale Rider. Captures the essence of the mythic West.

Tomt39

It's a great film.

Stick Figure Studios

I am glad she has seen Sully, even if we won't get to see her reaction.

Stephen Last

+1 for Pale Rider

Clay F

Wow. Y’all trying to get her depressed for Christmas. I’m going with Pale Rider. Masterpiece.

Brian Lowery

I've seen MILLION DOLLAR BABY and want to see it again. It's an excellent film. The second Eastwood-directed movie to win Best Picture.

Stick Figure Studios

I voted for Outlaw Josey Wales thinking there was no way it would win especially as it's older, but it's in the running. Who knew?

Jennifer Medicus

I do hope she watches the complete "Dirty Harry" series someday. But of this list, it's easily "The Outlaw Josey Wales". This and "Shane" are the two best Westerns after ....drumroll please ..."The Searchers" !!!!! "Play Misty for Me" was his directorial debut and a great thriller. It was Basic Instinct before Basic Instinct came out

Bill Maurer

Little bit of a spoiler here. Might want to reconsider your comments.

Dan M

I remember that one, kind of ancester of an other one with Michael Douglas. :-)

René Ferland

All are great movies. Outlaw Josey Wales, Heartbreak Ridge and the historic true story Flags of Our Father. But Million Dollar Baby is going to be my first choice.

Randy Schuh

Agree, Dan. A lot of that going around in these comments.

2-Can

Bridges of Madison County the movie was longer than it took me to read the book. I was not thrilled with the casting when I first heard about the movie, but after I saw it, they were 100% perfect for the roles. I've visited the bridge that is featured in the movie and it was such a thrill. Even if it doesn't win the poll, you should watch the movie.

psu01414

Definitely need to be seen together.

Robert Baldino

I agree! I commented that as well. Please add Space Cowboys!

Tracey Mendenhall Porreca

Easily one of the best movies on this list. I'm surprised Million Dollar Baby is currently winning. No one who's seen that really wants to see it again. I suspect the subscribers who like to see Cassie suffer are propping that one up.

Robert Baldino

I’m on board with this idea.

Dan M

"Preacher!"

Stick Figure Studios

It's also more or less a remake of SHANE.

Stick Figure Studios

No one should watch Million Dollar Baby. Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima really need to be watched together. Invictus is fantastic. You get Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, and a sports movie. And Pale Rider is easily one of the better movies on this list.

Robert Baldino

I have no doubt she will understand, but it's still going to upset her

Edward Robson

You forgot Space Cowboys! That's my favorite Clint Eastwood directed movie. The theme song was sung by NSYNC! It is a feel good movie

Tracey Mendenhall Porreca

Mystic River is sooo good!

John H

So many good ones! My vote personally is for "Heartbreak Ridge"! I love that movie, so underrated 😁

Wesley White

She'll understand.

Aaron Mann

Pale Rider should be on your watch list at some point. It is a combination of his "man with no name" series and the conflicts of Open Range (except in this one it is miners instead of cattlemen). It reenergized the idea of westerns which had slowed during the 1970s.

Javier Hernandez

Yeah, the Vietnam ones were tough, but she seems to respond somewhat positively to WWII films. Maybe that could entice her to watch Eastwood's two war movies.

Stick Figure Studios

"Action."

Stick Figure Studios

If it was on the list, it would have gotten my vote. Easily the most Cassie friendly movie from Mr. Eastwood. Maybe as a PPOTM?

Dan M

I agree.

Rick Williams

I'm noticing a lot of comments are doing that.

Stick Figure Studios

BRONCO BILLY is great. The orangutan movies not so much.

Stick Figure Studios

It'll never win, but Pale Rider is such a good film. Great comfort food.

SpiffMan

I flip flopped between Million Dollar Baby and Mystic River. I’ll be happy with either one.

Dan M

He didn't direct those though.

Stick Figure Studios

Excellent performance by Hillary Swank

Clay F

Love to see support for A Perfect World. I knew when this poll was coming up that it probably wouldn't have a hope. Costner is so good in it and it's a film I feel not a lot of people give a chance to. Cassie would adore it, but it'll not happen this time.

Archronos

Little bit of a spoiler here. Might want to reconsider your comments.

Dan M

"You know you did everything you could, don't you?" "I don't know nuthin'. Not one damn thing."

bgb1975

I don't think I would count on it -- just my thought. She seemed bigger on the war genre earlier in the channel than now. I think some of the Vietnam War movies might have "cured" her.

Clay F

Yikes! So many good choices! If Space Cowboys was on the list I definitely would have voted for it. I think it’s the movie you would have enjoyed the most. Older, macho men trying to out macho each other, a space mission, and romance. It would have been a win, win, win for you, and Carly if she joins you. But it’s not on the list. HOWEVER, Million Dollar Baby IS! So that’s where my vote goes. One of Hillary Swank’s best performances IMO.

Dan M

A Perfect World (should be 1993, not 1983) is really underrated. Also stars Costner who you obviously love. But sadly I just don't think a lot of people have seen it, and it shows since it's already losing bad. And no point in hitching my horse to a loser, so I just went with Million Dollar Baby, another solid choice.

Aaron Mann

Unforgiven is his best movie. But Mystic River is my favorite of his.

Brian Harris

Some fun older Eastwood as well... . The 'Dirty Harry' movies and a double feature night containing "Any Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can"?? ... that's some fun stuf...

Jens Kristensen

Good point. I copied/pasted.

Clay F

I feel like Cassie would greatly dislike the ending of million dollar baby.

Edward Robson

100%. It’s my favorite Eastwood movie, my favorite western, and a top 5 movie from the 90’s.

Joel Baumgartner

Preposition trouble in the poll. Letters TO Iwo Jima would effectively be letters from home (kind of the opposite of the point).

2-Can

I second that!

JT

With Sully not included, this poll becomes somewhat meh for me. I voted for Million Dollar Baby as that’s the only movie on this poll I recognised, but to be honest I’m not fussed if it wins or not.

Luke Godfrey

Surprised she's seen that and not some of the ones on the list.

Brent Petty

UNFORGIVEN is his masterpiece.

Stick Figure Studios

Great movie! But kinda sleazy? .. .

Jens Kristensen

“I just want what’s best for you, Manushka.”

Cole Jennett

Yep, agree, while I am not good at predicting, I definitely think Cassie would love INVICTUS -- likely the most of any movie in the poll.

Clay F

Well, she was doing it for a while. Don't think she's still doing it, but she could start it up again if she wanted.

Stick Figure Studios

This is quite a task... My number one is "Heartbreak Ridge", - lots of colorful metaphors in this too.... "Pale Rider", "The Outlaw Josey Wales" follows - and then "Million Dollar Baby", but I reckon that all are essential viewing...

Jens Kristensen

Very moving. One the rare movies Where's it's far better than the book.

Rick Rodriguez

If had to choose one, I would choose Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

Clay F

Heartbreak Ridge is OUTSTANDING.

Joel Baumgartner

Those that see it always well regard it.

Rick Rodriguez

@stick figure Studios, Yes, it doesn't belong on this poll which is for his directed works. But, it's such and important film in his career, I think it deserves a slot at some point.

Ron

at some point you need to watch clint in three Comedys. 1. Every Which way but loose 2. Any which way you can. as well as Bronco Billy! you heard it here first.

Sean Redmond

I like Hang'em High but as you indicate, Clint is actor not director.

Clay F

That ending..

Rick Rodriguez

I know. She'd love that one... even though it probably wouldn't win a poll.

Stick Figure Studios

No no no to million dollar baby. Acting and directing was great of course. But if i want to bawl my eyes out and be depressed for a week… i’ll just “my girl” again.

Audrey

While it was not the best movie, I would have voted for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

kevin

That's what I said.

Stick Figure Studios

She really can't go wrong with most of these.

Rick Rodriguez

For Eastwood as an actor, absolutely. DIRTY HARRY is probably his most iconic role. It literally made him a global movie star.

Stick Figure Studios

i voted pale rider and heartbreak ridge both are excellent films people forget just how good they are and they are very enjoyable and lovable 2 perfect films for you Cassie or for both you and Carly

scott osborne

Facts

Rick Rodriguez

How certain is that "War Movie Wednesday" thing? That would be awesome.

Clay F

Yeah, some of these films are tougher than others, but all are worth watching.

Stick Figure Studios

I hope Dirty Harry can make it on a follow-on poll.

Ron

Only one of these movies do I remember well because I have watched it multiple times. Million Dollar Baby

Eric Haefele

you would be 100% sure if you’d seen Million Dollar Baby… not the kind of movie you forget.

djKENTO

Eastwood has more hits than misses in his filmography.

Stick Figure Studios

And still going strong. His latest film JUROR #2 drops on Max later this month.

Stick Figure Studios

Paul Walter Hauser is an amazing actor.

Nathan Swapp

I think Mystic River or M$B would give us the better reactions. With that said these are all incredible films.

Jay

IMO, Unforgiven is the only Eastwood directed movie that’s better.

Joel Baumgartner

Mystic River!!! So good!! Acting by everyone was amazing!

Audrey

That's a good one. I actually have a poster of that film autographed by Eastwood himself.

Stick Figure Studios

I went with Heartbreak Ridge and A Perfect World. Those are my favorites from the list.

David Kent

It's top three for me (acting). I love Hang 'em High, and Josey Wales would be almost perfect without the one person in a lot of his movies around that time (vague to avoid spoilers), but right behind that is Pale Rider.

Mike Lemon

Wish we could add his directorial debut with Play Misty For Me 1971. A awesome thriller. But c'mon Josey Wales. Iol

Brian Wood

I will never, ever watch Million Dollar Baby again.

Lyle Morgan

I figured Mr Edgewood would have the east in that poll.

2-Can

NNOOO! C'mon folks - there's no way "Million Dollar Baby" can hold a candle to "A Perfect World"!

bgb1975

It's far and away the best movie on this list, but I feel like not enough people have seen it. Funny story, years ago a place I worked at was briefly short-staffed because one of our best and hardest working coworkers was out on maternity leave, and we were all struggling to keep up without her. One day we started jokingly calling her "The Swede" and saying stuff like "things will get better when The Swede is back!" When she came back we started chanting "Swede, Swede, Swede!" and of course she had absolutely no idea what we were talking about 😂

Stranger2Reality

Cmon letters to Iwo Jima and Flags of our fathers.

Alex Gorell

I voted these 4: --The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) --Pale Rider (1985) --Invictus (2009) --Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) I won't mind if MDB wins.

Clay F

It's the only way to have Mystic River seen, so I must agree. Clint Week!!

Mike LL

This idea has my support as well. Make it a theme week.

Stick Figure Studios

What… no Space Cowboys?

Daniel Turbyfill

Out of these, I haven’t seen Heartbreak Ridge nor A Perfect World.

Jonathan Caro

I love PALE RIDER. It was my first Clint Eastwood movie and the first R-rated film I ever watched on television. A very underrated film.

Stick Figure Studios

Ok - Favors for sale. "A Perfect World" must win! (Also it came out in 1993, not 1983)

bgb1975

Both excellent movies.

Stick Figure Studios

Not in the mood for a western or a war movie, so voted for Mystic River and Richard Jewell. Mystic River is one of Edgewood's finest movies, and won it's Oscars for acting, and Clint narrowly missed on three Oscars for that movie.

Mike LL

Even if they don't win this poll, I'm hopeful that they will get seen as part of her "War Movie Wednesday" thing.

Stick Figure Studios

Voted for TOJW,I'll watch any of these,MDB for the 20th time. :)

Celeste McAllister

Personally, I think every movie on here is a must-see.

Stick Figure Studios

Same here. I didn't know anything about either one of them when I watched them, and holy crap those were some powerful movies.

Johnny

She says in her message that she's already watched it off channel.

Stick Figure Studios

She's already seen it.

Stranger2Reality

I just watched that one a couple weeks ago for the first time and loved it.

Stick Figure Studios

Never saw Invictus. I like every other movie. Lol. I really like this list.

nick bell

WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART is a severely underrated film in his catalog.

Matt Rose

Good list. But kind of bummed Changeling isn't on there.

Chris Thom

Eastwood is one of my favorite filmmakers and I've recently been going through his entire filmography myself filling in the gaps of his movies that I haven't seen (and really enjoying it). I have now watched 34 of the 40 films he's directed. I'm overjoyed that he won the poll and am very pleased that you are going to be watching the top two titles because every movie on this list is worth seeing (I'd love it even more if you did three; make it a theme week). I don't know that I care what wins... but I voted for JOSEY WALES and MILLION DOLLAR BABY.

Stick Figure Studios

Million Dollar Baby AND The Bridges of Madison County are MUST WATCHES.

Jonathan Caro

I don’t know if they’ll win any polls, but the two companion movies: Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima are very interesting in the fact that they tell about the Battle of Iwo Jima from both the American and Japanese perspective The two films were meant to be seen together.

Robert da Spruce

nothing like a nice piece of hickory!

Matt Rose

Pale Rider is a good one.

Clay F

I was thinking the same exact thing

Loki Incredible

I've seen that movie so many times. I practically never hear anyone talking about it. But the people who have seen it, especially the guys who have seen it, know how hard it hits. It's probably my favorite Kevin Costner movie.

John Neiberger

cassie, no matter how this poll turns out, the one of these you have to see is the bridges of madison county (1995)

diego kontarovsky

Voted for baby but Richard Jewel is severely underrated

Philip G.

Play Misty For Me was Eastwood’s directorial debut would be a good choice to add if it’s not too late

Thomas Thompson

I wish I had more choices but The Outlaw Josey Wales is a good one.. I hope Mystic River shows up in another poll because that's another essential film too.

Michael Enos

Million Dollar Baby broke me. But Mystic River broke me in a completely different way.

Blake Evans

100,000% Flags of Our Fathers. Powerful, based on a true story and hits on every level.

Terdell Ferguson

Glad you added “Directors Poll” because when I first saw this, I thought it was in memorium!

Matthew Periolat

It’s not a popular opinion but pale rider is my fav Clint western film

Anthony Harris

There are some great choices on here pal, but one isn't there; his first movie as a director, Play Misty For Me. An absolute masterpiece. You must find a way to see it even if you never review it for the site.

James Forrest

Oh, Cassie. The top three, pleased.

R Harper

Flags of our fathers and letters from Iwo are twin movies showing the two different perspectives. They should be watched together. For more context, they're WWII war movies about the US invasion of the island of Iwo Jima. Flags of our Fathers is the US Perspective and Letters from Iwo Jima is the Japanese perspective.

Nathan Swapp

What a shame A Perfect World is not leading. One of Kevin's best performances.

Brian McGovern

Gonna go INVICTUS simply because I know she'd love it. THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES is probably my favorite in that batch of films, though.

Matt Rose

Josey Wales is THE Eastwood classic

buzz tp

Dang he's 94 now

Zeroarmor7

I said Heartbreak Ridge, even though I’m 98.6% certain it won’t win.

Joel Baumgartner

Million Dollar Baby is a good movie but I can't watch it again. IYKYK 🖖

Mark McKeever

The bridges of Madison county is a classic love story and honestly one of his best made movies. It’s not an action film which sets it apart from his filmography

Jackie McDonalds

So many good ones!

Wes

And awaaaayy we go! Man. I wish I could vote for all. I f Mystic River wins. Warning, Cassie. It's a tough watch. Well they all are but that one especially.

Rick Rodriguez

Mystic river is a must

Andrew Heller

You know you love to make her cry. Do the right/evil thing. Million Dollar Baby.
