While I like "Working Girl," I'm still not sure how such a lightweight flick got a Best Picture nomination. 🤷‍♂️ Ditto "Breaking Away" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral." I'll at least chalk up "The Cider House Rules" and "Chocolat" to Harvey Weinstein's manipulative campaigning. 🙄

Byrd N. Hand

As the saying goes, "Rocky" is about boxing; "Raging Bull" is about a guy who happens to be a boxer.

Byrd N. Hand

The Champ definitely, Rene. Raging Bull is a great film with great performances, but I agree with a critique I read about it way back when: "This is a fine movie about people you would not want to know."

Clarence Newman

The Champ (1979) and Million Dollar Baby (2004) would be nice additions to Cassie's boxing movie list. And no, I don't want her to watch Raging Bull (1980). :-)

René Ferland

Working Girl? I loved that one, and on Valentine's Day, what a great idea!

René Ferland

Yeah, I remember reading how she quit "A League of Their Own" once she learned Madonna had been cast in it. She seems to come off as a genuine bitch. 🤔 Of course, Geena Davis was undoubtedly way better in that role anyway.

Byrd N. Hand

I've heard that too, Byrd. Apparently, Debra Winger was difficult to work with (jn general), but so was Richard Gere back then so they would've sparked off each other a lot. In any case, it makes for a really good film with strong performances all around. It's not one of my cuddly suggestions, but I think Cassie will be happy she watched it.

Clarence Newman

Honestly, I'd say "Ghost Dad" would be more watchable than "Howard the Duck." Should've gone with "Leonard, Part 6." 🤨

Byrd N. Hand

The one thing I've always heard about "Officer" is that Gere and Winger absolutely hated each other, so maybe there's more to it than meets the eye...

Byrd N. Hand

Cannonball Run, however.....

Clarence Newman

No, The Great Race kind of percolated to the top last month because conversations lent themselves to it. Therefore, it was everyone else's fault not mine. It's an epic comedy and Cassie would love it, but The Champ is ahead of it on the list. Anyone who thinks I try to protect her from the extremities of emotion, wait till you get a load of this one!

Clarence Newman

@Clarence - I thought "The Great Race" was gonna be next! Although I haven't seen "The Champ" yet.

bgb1975

So much fun watching this. I almost felt like a little kid waiting for Christmas leading up to seeing Cassie open her gift.

bgb1975

@Clarence, I consider myself just a casual horror fan, I have never watched any really disturbing stuff. I can of course handle anything Cassie takes on...but SAW did make me want to take multiple showers, lol.

Joe

Saw was her husband's pick from 2022. It was the longest "coming next week" ever.

Mike Lemon

Joe. She's just trying to please the nutters among us in October (you and Richard definitely, and strangely even me when The Fly starts buzzing around), but then needs 11 months of tender Popcorn picks to recover. She needs to realise that Bodysnatchers and Horror of Dracula (which I haven't seen in years but have unearthed a strange nostalgia for because of the Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing combo - mostly Cushing, because of At The Earth's Core and the original Doctor Who movie) are eminently survivable and weirdly entertaining. And you know what I think of The Time Machine (1960).

Clarence Newman

@Clarence, can't think of PPOTM that have been a stretch for her. She has shocked me with a few of her Halloween picks (IT, IT2, Saw).

Joe

Joe. I'm not sure Cassie could handle Donald Sutherland's perm.

Clarence Newman

Guys, you've been here longer than me, so answer me this one. How many times has Cassie used her Popcorn Pick (that being her personal, "I want to watch this one" choice) on a movie you consider a vacation from her comfort zone? I'm curious, because it strikes me that she would only ever pick comfort zone movies for her once-a-month personal choice. The stuff that stretches her beyond that would surely come from polls.

Clarence Newman

Well, now that the AOAAG saga has finally been settled (haha), I must continue the good fight for "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1978). I'm gonna hold her to that promise she made to watch it.

Joe

A very little bit. Baby steps I guess.

Richard Maurer

A little bit, Richard - Officer is not exactly a cuddlefest. In my opinion, it is a clear step in the direction of Horror of Dracula.

Clarence Newman

Cassie’s really going out of her comfort zone with these Popcorn Picks /s

Richard Maurer

It appeared she was about to, but then lost her train of thought upon realizing she didn't prepare the DVD's for the next poll. 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

"Ghost Dad" is considerably more watchable than "Howard the Duck," if you ask me.

Byrd N. Hand

Back from a weekend at my brother's and I've just finished watching the YT Live. 1:08.54 - Hold on, I need a minute, because I barely have the words. Cassie just announced she'll be watching An Officer and a Gentleman as her Popcorn Pick of the Month in January - a movie I have asked her to watch on five or eighty occasions over the past few months. I better not go outside right now, because I feel like Dan Aykroyd after he got doused with the happy slime in Ghostbusters 2. I'd be walking up to complete strangers and saying, "Hey man. I love you." - and then giving them a big hug whether they wanted one or not. Thank you Cassie. You have made a happy man very old. Or something like that. In return, I promise never to pester you with another of my favourites ever again. You have granted every wish I could possibly have on this channel and I will henceforth just sit here in the corner, grinning like an idiot. ...... OK, that's done. Now......let's talk about "The Champ". 😁

Clarence Newman

My knickers were indeed twisted, Joe. But thanks to Cassie confirming Officer and a Gentleman as her Popcorn Pick for January, they have now been straightened out and perfectly ironed. In fact, they're currently on my head as I run around the garden letting the entire neighbourhood know about it!

Clarence Newman

Dont worry, you can watch the VOD.

Sean

Oh man, I was looking forward to Hawkeye. Especially at Xmas.

Sean

David

Now I’m hearing this was a joke. So which was it?

Richard Maurer

Don’t be playing with me, Joe. It’s been so long, I was thinking of having her Bentley repossessed. If you speak the truth, I’m buying her a puppy as well.

Clarence Newman

I was working and couldn’t watch but heard Ghost Dad won the poll. What movies lost to it so I can get annoyed.

Richard Maurer

The whole Howard the Duck thing on the channel has been quite entertaining. Everyone getting their knickers in a twist. 😆

Joe

@Clarence, Cassie mentioned you by name in the LIVE last night, she said An Officer and a Gentlemen will be her January PPOTM. Hey, remind me, what kind of car was that you bought her, she's gonna love it.😆

Joe

"Ghost Dad" (1990) is the inside pick to win the next vote. Starring Bill Cosby, and currently sitting at 6% approval rating on rotten tomatoes.

Bill

Totally agree. It would break my heart a little to know she’s watched it and I can’t witness it.

Cole Jennett

Oh no, sad to hear in the live that you will be watching Hawkeye but not reacting to it. There are a few scenes in the show which pack an emotional wallop for me. Some good call backs. You're one of about 3 reactors on Patreon who I'm hoping might react to it this Christmas. I know @AwkwardAshleigh(cool to hear you'll be doing a collab sometime with her!) has watched it, but not posted the reactions quite yet since she's watching Buffy. Even if Marvel doesn't perform well for you on YouTube, I hope you might reconsider making it a patreon exclusive. 🙏

YodatheHobbit

Or people who like original movies or wanna relive their childhood films with someone online because watching alone is boring.

YodatheHobbit

Cassie, thank you for the gift membership! I’m so excited and so appreciative! Merry Christmas & Happiest of Birthdays! 🩵 Crossing fingers for Working Girl with Harrison Ford one of these days. Maybe for Valentines Day. 🤷🏼‍♀️😉

Angel Lulu Blu

It's processing and should be up shortly on the channel!

Cassie

Was the VoD not saved?

Have to pass on this. My mom just came home a couple of days ago from rehab. Taking care of her is more important to me.
