Upcoming...16 more sleeps :)

Hey guys, how are we holding up in December so far? We are all taking turns passing around sicknesses, but I am hoping that means we are getting it out of the way before we go to my parents ic Canada for Christmas. How is your shopping coming along? My little girl has changed her mind 7 times about the Disney princess doll she wants so I have them all in my garage and whatever the last one she says will go under the tree-there will be a lot of returns to do after Christmas!

This week we have The Holdovers, MI7 revisited (finally....in prep for a deep dive Mission Impossible podcast episode) and ST 2009! Next week will be A Christmas Carol with JLP, a Butter Watch Along to one of those old Claymation movies-I think Rudolph was the most popular in the comments last week and either one more christmas movie or the directors poll winner! Also wanted to let you know the week of Christmas there will just be one patreon release as we take some time off for the holiday.

Speaking of the Director's Poll, I put one up yesterday! I had a list of 65 directors, randomly drew 7 from a hat and Clint Eastwood is winning by a landslide! I cannot believe how many movies he has directed, looks like we might need an A and B poll for him!

I hope you saw the new fun thing we announced this week. National Lampoon Drumroll Please........Pib Pick a Flick !!! Check out the linked post, I am so excited about this and think it is going to be so fun, I know I will find some hidden gems!

We have our PIB CHRISTMAS LIVE this FRIDAY-Package opening and more!

Sorry I don't know why that picture goes SO giant! I know December is crazy but I hope to see you there for packages, games, giveaways and more!

Also the Extra Butter Watch-Along will be Thursday the 19th

Ok so many things!

Hope you have a great week ahead of you and you don't get sick and that you can watch your favorite Christmas movie!

Love your butter butts!

Cassie

Ps-Our Latest Popcorn to Go Podcast Episode is out today everywhere! It was a fun one about things and movies we love but everyone else seems to hate! Would love for you to check it out!

Pale Rider. Have seen it many times. Good.

V M

I agree with Pickup. The TOS and TNG casts were better. I connected with them. Her Star Trek journey shouldve ended after TNG. She shouldve watched more TNG episodes though.

V M

It has been released if you are at least subscribed to full reactions. I’d expect mid-next week for the YouTube edit.

Cole Jennett

Can’t argue with that.

Walter

No! Release Pine Trek asap! 😂

When is Star Trek with Chris Pine going to be released?

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Can't wait to see your reaction to Star Trek.

Scott Macaulay

I watched the new Mission Impossible movie when it was first released to streaming. I wasn’t impressed. It seemed as though the strategy was to simply dial everything up to 11 and then keep it there. It left me profoundly bored.

Just Plain Bob

I think Cassie would like to give Thelma and Louise a try and would have an engaging reaction like all of us. I am not going to speculate as to details.

Clay F

So curious what the sisters would think of Thelma and Louise.

Chris Thom

Oh I saw that a few years ago. Definitely the Fatal Attraction of it's time. Clint's a fairly versatile director. Also pretty sure he has a home near that filming location.

Chris Thom

She reacted to In the Line of Fire. +1 for Pale Rider

Clay F

You may be right. I’ll still advocate for it though when the topic of Star Trek comes up.

Walter

@Cassie, we need two polls for Eastwood, two many of his good films will lose out on just one poll.

Joe

I think there's a snowballs chance in hell that Cassie watches anymore long Trek series for the channel. I do think Picard S3 will be watched, probably sometimes next year. Just my two-cents.

Joe

Am curious to watch the MI7 reaction, have the ladies forgotten everything about the film at this point (haha).

Joe

Good film, sadly it won't finish high on an Eastwood poll.

Joe

You also need to watch Pickard Season 3 you will absolutely love it with your reactions to ST so far forget season 1 and 2!

Steven And Chloe Oddi

Play Misty for me Clint Eastwood

Steven And Chloe Oddi

Yep, the cast is fantastic in the new movies. The plots and movie logic, not so much. But they are a lot of fun, and all three are enjoyable.

Jamie

I watched The Holdovers with Wifey last night. I wasn't sure I was going to like it in the beginning, but it didn't take long to kick into stride. I'm now looking forward to Cassie's reaction because she's going to love it.

Clarence Newman

That's a good shout, Shawn, but I can't bring myself to make the change.

Clarence Newman

Oh, Finney's great too... and he does a good job both as the older Scrooge and as the younger Scrooge in the flashbacks (a part they usually get a second actor for).

Stick Figure Studios

I still like Albert Finney's portrayal the best.

Byrd N. Hand

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad Carly isn't joining in either. She might be asking too many questions and distracting her.

Shawn Kildal

10 Cloverfield Lane instead of Cannonball Run

Shawn Kildal

NOW you're talking! I like it. DS9 is also my favorite and I think Cassie would really like it too.

Walter

He's amazing. Karl Urban - he's in a ton of stuff. Really great actor.

Walter

Just start Carly with Deep Space Nine. It is the best Trek anyway.

TheSingulatarian

They just changed the title. It's now The Final Reckoning. Teaser released a few weeks ago.

Rick Rodriguez

Any idea if the studio cancelled Dead Reckoning Part 2? Heard that somewhere but not sure if it's fake news.

Chris Thom

Sweeeeede!

Chris Thom

And In The Line of Fire!

Shawn Kildal

I think the guy they chose for Bones in the Pine movies was spot on.

Andrew Rose

Yes!! Def check out my reactions to Unforgiven and Gran Torino, I also reacted to Good, bad the ugly

Cassie

I believe that in the over 60 years that Star Trek has been around, they've only destroyed the Enterprise three times.

Stick Figure Studios

Nope. Not seen HEARTBREAK RIDGE yet, but I have seen 35 of the 40 films he's directed.

Stick Figure Studios

Carly didn't put the work in.

Rick Williams

I did. Great acting and really likable characters. I think this one is destined to become a Xmas classic.

Michael Siegel

The Descendants is good.

Clay F

Well, Carly did say she wanted to see the Chris Pine Star Trek, but I like your plan more. Let's do that.

Walter

He's older, so he's probably of the mindset of producers that were well aware of how expensive film itself was, as well as everything else. Contrast that with Kubrick who took like three months filming an eight minute scene. Lol. I do love Kubrick, but I think he may've just been f***ing with Cruise on Eyes Wide Shut.

Chris Thom

Since Carly has now shown an interest in Trek, I think Cassie should put the Pine Treks on hold while she rewatches all the Treks she's watched so far, but with Carly. Then Carly will be all caught up for the Pine Treks. I think it's a plan.

Clarence Newman

Did you enjoy it?

Chris Thom

I think she would like The Descendants. Maybe more than any of his other movies.

Chris Thom

Now that’s how it’s done!😂

Cole Jennett

Good for you, Cole! Well done! Keep it up, we're all so proud of you! Who's a good boy, you are! 😂😂😂

Happy Hanukkah

She put the work in but Carly didn't. Lol. Ironically this could be the perfect movie for Carly to start with, though.

Chris Thom

PutP76 is right! No, Walter is right! Upon reflection, Clay is right! Final answer: Cole is right! :-P

Happy Hanukkah

It's not my fault, Mark. Cannonball Run was the only one that fit the tenth day motif.

Clarence Newman

I think she will be torn who she likes best, but she has always been susceptible to recency bias.

Cole Jennett

@Joe - 12 days of Christmas not 52.

Mike Lemon

You haven't seen Heartbreak Ridge, Stick? And you're a Clint fan? Boy, do I envy you.

Clarence Newman

Oh yeah, she has a definite connection w/TOS cast and maybe even more so with TNG cast (e.g., Picard). However, the Kelvin cast has a lot of heart, and she has 3 movies to connect. My guess is she will like aspects right away of ST (2009) over TOS. I understand what you are saying -- the Kelvin films are an afterthought to many -- but I don't think will be an afterthought for her but more of a revelaton of how good the Kelvin cast is and how ST (2009) honors the Trek franchise.

Clay F

I know, lol, but it can read as “what you said made sense (this time)”😂

Cole Jennett

I just meant that I was rethinking my own initial opinion on the subject.

Stick Figure Studios

Great list, The Dirty Dozen doesn’t get enough love. It’s a great WW2 movie.

Mark White

It’s Captain Chaos! 😂😂😂DA DA, DAAA! Cannonball Run, every time Clarence! 😂

Mark White

That's fair. I think she will like the actors well enough and enjoy the movies for what they are. Maybe it's more accurate to say that the feeling before the journey began that these movies will be the culmination and best of Trek will not be vindicated. I think at the end of all the movies her conclusion will be that she had fun with these new movies, but her heart lies with the OG crew.

Pickupthepieces76

lol, would have preferred that without the “actually”😂.

Cole Jennett

I disagree. I think she will definitely like the actors, probably more than the stories. The cast is the best thing about these movies, in my opinion

Walter

Agreed.

Luke Godfrey

DISCOVERY started out good (I liked first couple seasons), but lost me somewhere in the third season. I love SNW though.

Stick Figure Studios

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Stick Figure Studios

I still need to see HEARTBREAK RIDGE myself, but I second the other two.

Stick Figure Studios

Yes ST 2009 is designed to introduce newbies and I'm sure Carly will certainly enjoy and maybe get involved with the Trek universe. However, I think Cassie will enjoy this more solo and give stronger reaction to us. Based on her Trek movie reactions so far, her emotional intensity was on full display. She is really IN to TOS and TNG families. No time to explain stuff to Carly or have nice sister chats during the movie!

Tech Citizen

Because referring to a Star Trek series by its initials is common practice? 🤔

Luke Godfrey

I agree it’s a great starting off point, but that her coming in with no prior knowledge will effect Cassie’s reaction and not in a good way. I think it will take her out of it somewhat. I was very happy not to see the “with Carly” tag on it. It’s nothing against Carly either, she enhances a reaction (when they both are going in blind).

Cole Jennett

Ruthless Vulcan Logic. 🤣

rakesh

Most of these films will get watched over the next few years...but almost everything will be chosen by polls. Cassie only picks on average just one movie a month that she wants.

Joe

I doubt Cassie could find time to do even one additional reaction each week, what with all she has going on. If she only does 1 or 2 reactions the odd week here and there, I think I can manage to survive, lol.

Joe

wow, is Cassie actually not letting Carly watch Star Trek with her? She mentioned in Popcorn To Go that she didn't think she earned the right...

Walter

I know Cassie started the whole Star Trek journey to eventually watch these new movies. And now it's posted like the big final to this journey. But for me and I presume all ST fans the Original Series, TNG and all those movies were the highlights. These new movies are just an afterthought. I'm sure it will still be enjoyable, but I think Cassie will also find that she won't get a connection with the new actors like she did with the originals.

Pickupthepieces76

No!

Richard Maurer

I actually like Scott's portrayal because I don't find it to be as broad and cartoony as so many other actors.

Stick Figure Studios

And cut back on the sugary drinks! Go with the ice water!

bgb1975

We are gradually stretching her tolerance for the oldies. I'll be happy to stop when she reaches 1902.

Clarence Newman

Tabasco sauce...it'll kill anything, lol.

Joe

I thought pre-1970 is the "new" old around this popcorn stand, for Cassie probably pre-90.

Joe

That and Cannonball Run.

Clarence Newman

Police Story 1985 would trounce everything if we said that it's Jackie Chan's GREATEST EVER movie (not just the Hong Kong ones)!

Clarence Newman

Oh balls, Seven Year Itch is in there. But it's Marilyn, therefore exempt.

Clarence Newman

I'll watch the YT edits with Cassie for the reaction, I'm no fan of the films. I'm sure she will love them.

Joe

You could not be more wrong, Joe. You could try, but you would not be successful. Old on this channel is pre-1960, therefore these movies are all puplings.

Clarence Newman

You potty mouth, bgb!

Clarence Newman

#@%$#&%^$ !!

bgb1975

@Clarence, your mixing old and modern, that's a no-no. Yes to "Dirty Harry" since everyone wants it.

Joe

She's already reacted to the first two, but I fully support 3 & 4.

Clarence Newman

Jar Jar Abrams, the destroyer of franchises -- Star Trek, Star Wars, and, due to putting in a very good word for its showrunners to Amazon, Tolkien's Middle-Earth, thanks to the crap that is Rings of Power. 🤮

Byrd N. Hand

I hate how the "Santa Clause" movies apparently impeded people's ability to spell 'Claus.' 🤦‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

I agree with Stick's Western submissions. For his non-Western submissions, I'd go with "Play 'Misty' for Me," "Breezy," and "Hereafter." I'd include "Sudden Impact" (at the expense of "Breezy"), but, of course, she needs to see the first 3 Harry Callahan movies first.

Byrd N. Hand

Recommended Clint Eastwood directed films: Gran Torino, Unforgiven, Pale Rider, Heartbreak Ridge, Absolute Power.

To Wa

There's a reason most Trekkies refer to Discovery as 'STD.' 🤐

Byrd N. Hand

After her sequel week last month, I'd love to see a 'threequel' week at some point: "Godfather III," "Terminator 3," "The Matrix Revolutions," and since I'm sure many people will be clamoring for it, "Austin Powers: Goldmember."

Byrd N. Hand

Enter the Dragon is a good film and would win any Asian martial arts poll it’s on now that Cassie has seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. So Cassie could either watch Enter the Dragon and not waste time with a poll or do a poll without it. There are plenty of great recent martial arts films to choose from, without going to older ones that wouldn’t win against the newer stuff anyway.

Richard Maurer

To answer Carly's question from the podcast: yes, she could absolutely watch the 3 new Star Trek movies. She will miss all the nods, references, and homages to the original, but these films were designed to be accessible and enjoyable to newcomers without any prior knowledge of the franchise. So, if she’s okay with exploring just one very specific flavor of the Trek universe, she could jump directly into them. I had a friend in university who wasn’t into Star Trek at all. He used to call it the "men in pajamas" show whenever I watched it in our dorm room. And even he ended up joining in and really liking the 2009 movie when I watched it after purchasing the Blu-ray.

Gábor Árki

Yes, that was incorrect. I changed BNW to SNW.

Clay F

A big +1 for "Sideways" (2004) (Paul Giamatti)

Clay F

First full-on re-watch for the channel where both Cassie *and* Carly had previously seen the movie in question.

Byrd N. Hand

Given that most Trekkies feel that Abrams largely 'Star Wars-ized' the franchise, I'm not sure how... 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

*Stop-motion, not Claymation. There's nothing clay in any of those TV specials -- only Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration.

Byrd N. Hand

"Thelma & Louise" (1991) [Ridley Scott] is awesome. Groundbreaking. Changed society. Callie Khouri won Oscar for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) -- one of few women to win that Oscar. The movie nominated for 6 Oscars.

Clay F

Yes, given Cassie's apparently botched first-time reaction of that movie, a re-watch with Carly for the channel would definitely make up for it.

Byrd N. Hand

Unfortunately, I feel most people under 40 these days don't really care about a movie's director, despite film long being regarded as the director's medium (whereas TV is the producer's medium, stage is the actor's medium, and literature is the writer's medium). 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

While I appreciate the 1984 version's grittier approach to the story (it's still one of the only adaptations to include the 'Ignorace and Want' scene), I still take issue with Scott's portrayal of Scrooge. He doesn't feel so much like a miserable, aging miser as just a snarky, sarcastic asshole (and proud of it) -- not unlike his portayal of General Patton. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Hope you watch Bad Santa since it was such a close poll.

Daniel Karlsson

@Witchfinder. I have to agree that most Bruce Lee films are dated, clunky, poorly produced and poorly acted. But the one impressive constant in all of them is Bruce Lee. The man was a force of nature.

Clarence Newman

If she apparently couldn't differentiate George Lucas' Star Wars from Di$ney Star Wars, I doubt she'll be able to do the same for Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek vs. Jar Jar Abrams'/Bad Robot's Star Trek. #thecurseofthenormie 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

I just eagerly scanned Cassie's latest Upcoming post, only to find that OAAG has been cynically shunned again, ignored and passed over as if I'm not the only subscriber she's trying to keep happy. It's the "40 Year Old Virgin" waxing scene all over again! Tis but a scratch, however. I must respect our Popcorn poppet's Christmas logjam and hush my mouth (for now). Instead, I am going to suggest a Crimbo poll for one of the final slots of the year. THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS POLL First day - Cool Hand Luke (1967, Paul Newman) Second - Thelma & Louise (1992, Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon) Third - The Godfather III (1990, Al Pacino) Fourth - A Hard Day's Night (1964, The Beatles)) Fifth - Creepshow (1982, Ted Danson, Stephen King) Sixth - Dirty Harry (1971, Clint Eastwood) Seventh - Seven Year Itch (1955, Marilyn Monroe) Eighth - Eight Below (2006, Paul Walker) Ninth - The Great Race (1965, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) Tenth - The Cannonball Run (1981, Burt Reynolds) Eleventh - The Cincinnati Kid (1965, Steve McQueen) Twelfth - The Dirty Dozen (1967, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson) They pretty much pick themselves, don't they?

Clarence Newman

Even when they did it the first time it was the studio who demanded it for some spectacle

Witchfinder General

I feel "Election" and "The Descendants" are kind of overrated, but I won't not watch Cassie's reaction to them. Along with "Sideways" and "The Holdovers," "About Schmidt" and "Nebraska" are my favorite Payne films.

Byrd N. Hand

*Clint in Rain 😢

Rick Rodriguez

Cassie should definitely have Carly watch the movie with her. Because no one else will. I joke, I joke! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Upon reflection, mike, I might have phrased that differently... So, shall we start advocating for Last Tango in Paris?

Happy Hanukkah

As we approach Chris-mas, we will get an answer to the question: What's better than one Chris? (Respuesta: mas Cris.)

Happy Hanukkah

19 films that are on my list, plus some other obviously great stuff that isn't my cup of tea. This could be a poll on its own.

Clarence Newman

When they first announced Paul Giamatti as Spock I wasn't really sold on the idea, but he really managed to capture the essence of the character.

Ian Tonge

But I have to say, Michael, that is a CAPITAL idea. CAPITAL, I say.

Clarence Newman

Frankly, I could do with the break. Sick of her I am, with her friendly face and her funny comments and her snuggly little demeanour. Bleh.

Clarence Newman

Enter The Dragon, Police Story, Ong Bak. Butts have never been so uniquely kicked.

Clarence Newman

Then she can watch Kentucky Fired Movie.

TheSingulatarian

Could they stop blowing up the Enterprise. They do it in every film.

TheSingulatarian

I have said this before, I was always interested to see the ST2009 reaction to get Cassie's thoughts on the casting and characterisations, and one in particular. There is one actor/character combination that is an intersection of both actor and character where Cassie has enjoyed them separately and expressed as much in different reactions... and the actor happens to be in more than one of the movies this week.

Mojo One Thousand

That's a moment that's really only rewarding for someone who's watched STAR TREK before seeing the reboot.

Stick Figure Studios

Yup. He only does one or two takes and he always comes in on schedule and under budget. He also likes to keep a very relaxed atmosphere on his set. He never says, "action" or "cut," just "Whenever you're ready" and "Okay, that's enough of that."

Stick Figure Studios

That's actually a great list, not entirely saw about dick Tracy though! I think I've also pitched the man whonwould be king, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago. I've also pitched JFK before the president elect releases the hounds so to speak. Just thinking she might like the brothers karazamov, if only to see shatner in his prime.

rakesh

Yes, I concur we need a reserve for emergencies, when life happens. I've been pitching it as well.

rakesh

Do we need a new poll? That last poll was rather good. I really wanted her to go through the ones we had already.

rakesh

Bone broth does wonders.

rakesh

I think all are good, 2 below standard and they do get better as they go along which is very rare for a franchise. Start at the beginning is my humble opinion.

rakesh

You're thinking Brave New World instead of Strange New Worlds.. That keeps popping into my head all the time. Personally I enjoy SNW. Pike and Spock in DISCO, made that seaosn the best. Some great episodes in SNW I would say my rankings are probably the same as yours.

rakesh

Hey Cass, sorry to hear you're sick and passing it around lol, hope you get better soon and everyone else! My buddy did catch a little bug a while back, but he's slowly getting better, I'm counting my blessings that I haven't caught anything lol! "Butter Butts" that's a new one LOL🤣🤣🤣 I hope things are going good for you and the family in December so far! I recently recieved my Christmas Bonus from work and don't worry, it's not a one year membership of the Jelly of the Month club, sorry had to do it LOL😂😂😂 But all seriousness, it's a fat one! Just want to also say thank you so much for your kind words you said to me in the comments of your "Christmas Vacation" reaction, that really meant a lot to me! Don't get me wrong I did for the most part enjoy you and Carly reacting to that movie, but the whole time I couldn't stop thinking of my father and knowing how much he loved that movie, I'll rewatch it again and have a better mood next time, I promise😁👌 Plus I wanted to once again inform you great news, as fate would have it, my Christmas gift for you and Carly arrived a bit early, so I immediately had it shipped out today and I had it put Priority Express so it will be delivered to you PO Box by tomorrow (12/11/24)! Without spoiling the surprise, lets just say it's a matching set for you and Carly to wear "if" my Pick-A-Flick ever wins, plus some print copies of the pics I took at the recent Autism Walk I did for your little sister and recent adventures at conventions like Anime Pasadena and Monsterpalooza, plus a Christmas card with a little surprise inside, and another Werther's sweet treat😋 Anyway, can't wait to see you open it up on Friday, hope you and the family are having a wonderful December so far, safe travels to your parents place in Canada for Christmas, love and support, you & Carly are the best, and God bless you and the family🎄🎁🥰😇🙏🤗😉✌👍🌹

Wesley White

Great, great list. Just watched Chinatown over the weekend. Love a good noir.

Chris Thom

Supposedly he doesn't do a ton of takes when he directs. Maybe that helps him crank them out faster than other filmmakers.

Chris Thom

Better than 'fat asses' I suppose.

Chris Thom

It's time. Hopefully Election and Sideways will happen eventually.

Chris Thom

Oh Cassie is NOT going to make past the cold opening scene of ST 2009 without crying! I hope this is not considered a spoiler. My eyes weren't dry even after the 5th viewing, and I'm a fan of TOS, TNG and everything pre-2009.

Tech Citizen

Glad there’s only three new movies. Needs to end there.

Richard Maurer

I am really looking forward to Star Trek (2009). I predict Cassie will love this movie. I hope you all stay healthy. Do the Vitamin D3 and vitamin C, of course but make it a point to wash your hands a lot and try your best to not touch your face. Merry Christmas everyone!

Thomas P Hamilton

Same deal on Jen Murray's channel. I like a bit of Star Trek but it's aggravating by this point

Witchfinder General

One of the the best directors of his generation

Witchfinder General

@ Joe Bruce Lee films are totally overrated. Jackie Chan & Sonny Chiba movies are both vastly superior

Witchfinder General

Vitamins I take for immunity during winter months: Daily: Vitamin D3 + K2 + Magnesium Citrate As required: Vitamin C + Zinc Picolinate Also try to cut out caffeine and see how you feel after a week

Witchfinder General

Carly asked Cassie if she could join in and watch, Cassie said "no, you don't deserve it." Carly is going to have to carve out her own ST path.

Shawn Kildal

Ugh, JarJar Trek...

Witchfinder General

I think Cassie went WAY above and beyond on the TNG series

Shawn Kildal

Haven't seen it either. Plan on doing a watch along when it drops.

Shawn Kildal

So happy Cassie will be discovering Alexander Payne.

Carol_White

Disregard. Those weren't directed by Clint. I'll see myself out.

Rick Rodriguez

What about Joe Kidd and Hang em High? :(

Rick Rodriguez

Get better soon Alex! Hate to see you down and out for the holidays.

Dan M

If The Bridges of Madison County wins a poll, Cassie should 100 percent watch with Carly.

Rick Rodriguez

What a person does in the privacy of their own home is no one else’s business!!!!!!!!!

Richard Maurer

I'm super excited as well for Star Trek 2009! I just wish Cassie would have seen the TOS episodes the Menagerie 1 & 2 to have some background on Pike though. I think Cassie going to be blown away by it. I liked how Cassie told Carly she wasn't allowed to watch it with her because she didn't deserve the opportunity. Guess Carly is going to have to carve her own path in the Trek universe

Shawn Kildal

Yay glad you're doing The Holdovers. I think that has the potential to be a future Christmas classic. Especially for those with mixed feelings about the holidays. Also really enjoying the podcast. Carly is doing great. As far as Hook goes, it is, and will continue to be, a classic for kids. Hopefully adults and parents won't be so cynical as to not show it to their kids/families. Might have to reconnect with your inner child a bit, for a certain age, it's a magical film. And the score is great.

Chris Thom

Cole! Say it ain’t so, Cole! 😫

Dan M

BNW? Do you mean SNW (Strange New Worlds)? If so I definitely recommend you give it another try. It’s my favourite Star Trek series. It’s super connected to TOS. In one episode they use actual footage from TOS as the episode is a direct continuation from a TOS episode. Though I recommend watching the first two seasons of Discovery first, if you haven’t already. SNW actually starts in season 2 of Discovery.

Luke Godfrey

I loved the Holdovers, anything Giamatti other than Billions 🤮 is a good bet.

Trevor Rotan

I still prefer the first one, but I did like the third one quite a bit. The second one is by far the weakest of the three.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh no Dan! We are on a disagreement streak. I’d much prefer Rudolph, that’s my childhood!

Cole Jennett

I am not a big fan of the new Trek movies, I actually like the third one out of the three the best. But I think watching Cassie react to this first movie will be very very interesting.

Mike LL

Mi2 was really the only hiccup imo. I still prefer Rogue Nation

Cole Jennett

That would be great, I would love a rewatch of What's Up Doc, and it could be a first watch for Carly!

Mike LL

Ugh, now I’m going to have to watch Popcorn’s reaction to Deadpool and Wolverine every night until ST 2009 comes out.

Uncle Phoenix

I think this current run of Christopher McQuarrie films is the best part of the Mission Impossible franchise.

Mike LL

Same, but mainly just for the first one

Cole Jennett

I agree that it could get Carly more interested in the Star Trek world, it worked for me. I “disagree” that Carly should join Cassie this time. If they were both going in with the same knowledge I might agree, but Cassie would have to spend time explaining to Carly why she reacted to a scene and end up missing other fun stuff. It’s not the time imo for Carly to join in after Cassie has been at it for a year on her own. I’m fully onboard for a rewatch down the road.

Cole Jennett

Agree, I am a fan of ST (2009). I've attempted SNW and want to give SNW another try. I never could get into Discovery or Enterprise. While I think DS9 is arguably the best Trek series, I am partial to TNG. My personal ranking: 1. TNG 2. TOS 3. DS9 4. Voyager 5. Picard S3

Clay F

The best MISSION IMPOSSIBLE movie is still the original 1996 one directed by Brian DePalma IMO.

Stick Figure Studios

Add Ester C to that dynamic duo and we’re talking a 1,2,3 punch to upper respiratory issues. All 3 are excellent antioxidants.

Dan M

I used to get sick multiple times a year before I started using a Neti-pot just a few years ago. Hope you guys get all get clear sinuses for Christmas soon and plenty of vitamin C and D!

YodatheHobbit

I sooooo can’t wait for Star Trek (2009). Cassie’s going to love it! I can’t wait to see her reaction to the graphics. It’s a big step up from the Star Trek stuff she’s watched so far. I know it’s a long shot but here’s hoping this leads to Cassie watching ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ and more importantly, ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ (after the first two seasons of Discovery of course as that’s when SNW starts). I absolutely love these new Star Trek series and it would be amazing if Cassie watched them too, in sequence and without skipping any! 🙏🏻

Luke Godfrey

If you think Bruce Greenwood did a good turn as Christopher Pike, wait till you see Anson Mount in ST Discovery Season 2 and ST Strange New Worlds.

Robert N Douglass

We had Santa Clause is Coming to Town on this morning as we ate breakfast. I was singing “Put One Foot in Front of the Other” in the car driving to work. So catchy…so good.

Dan M

I’m sick for the first time since 2019 so I get it. I hope you all get better soon. Looking forward to this week and the livestreams.

Alex Gorell

Oh my god, thank you for posting this link. I had never seen that. I love four weddings...and I absolutely adored that short sequel. Thank you again for sharing that

Susan Stork

Yay ST (2009). Never seen Holdovers but been wanting to and thus looking forward to it -- comes highly recommended. Excellent week. I've never seen any of the MI franchise. I have thought about starting with Ghost Protocol and going forward chronologically based on release -- along with watching your reactions.

Clay F

As a kid in the late 1960s/early 1970s, these were annual movies for me: Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer (1964) Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (1970)

Clay F

If she wants her tng happy ending she was to watch Picard season 3

Justin Minor

I'm pretty sure i know the part you're referring to. Lol

JohnnyUtah

Patrons submit a movie (one movie), and a winner is randomly selected each month.

Clay F

Awesome list. I like Bonnie and Clyde (AFI Top 100), Taxi Driver (AFI Top 100), The Deer Hunter (AFI Top 100), The Blues Brothers, and Lost in Translation. The Exorcist is a no-go for her. JFK is great filmmaking with stellar performance by Costner but has the dubious history.

Clay F

There is one moment in particular that I'm really looking forward to seeing her reaction to. I remember the audience that I saw it in the theater with went nuts when it happened.

Stick Figure Studios

I didn't grow up with the original show, but I did with the original movies and for me, the reboot reignited my love of Star Trek. Like most, I was disappointed in NEMESIS and was suffering from "Trek fatigue" (I was just sort of "Trekked out" for a while; I watched some VOYAGER but never bothered with ENTERPRISE). The 2009 film reminded me how much fun ST could be and I've been enjoying the new movies and shows (particularly STRANGE NEW WORLDS) ever since. I would actually argue we're in a bit of a Star Trek Renaissance (or "Trek-aissance" If you will) right now.

Stick Figure Studios

Coming from the classic Trek era, the re-boots were just not films I ever needed, but Cassie will like them I predict.

Joe

Random drawing for a member's pick.

Mike Lemon

I've been suggesting a rewatch of that film with Carly for a long time.

Stick Figure Studios

If we're dealing with respiratory ailments, I've been reasonably happy with zinc supplements (alongside quercetin).

Happy Hanukkah

Oh that's right, probably. Just Cassie and the goshes

JohnnyUtah

I keep getting this image of an annual Christmas flu bug disguising itself as an Uber driver, or the mail lady, or the pizza delivery kid, maybe Amazon Prime boxes, or frozen foods, etc., … all of this subterfuge as an Herculean effort to get inside the Cassie household. You guys should move and NOT tell common cold or influenza where you live. 😁 I mean, this is “every year,” right? : ) Plus, you guys are Canadian! I’d just assumed you Maple Leaf folk were immune to everything Winter Season-related (Either way, Feel Better!, lol).

Ike

Same Dan, Santa Claus is Coming To Town is my favorite. 🧑🏻‍🎄 Maury Laws composed all the songs from both Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Year Without a Santa Claus and they are very catchy. 🎶 Hopefully Cassie will see all three at some point as the Johnny Marks songs in the 1964 Rudolph are pretty good too. Maybe not Miser Brothers good (One might say "Too Much" good) or a "Put One Foot in Front of the Other" banger, but enjoyable. 😊

Steve Holton

I understand that. I was just hoping someone could summarize what it is about, so we know what we're missing out on. :)

Petr Melechin (ElonX)

Quality over quantity! :-) Then there's the matter that there seems to be a definite favorite.

Happy Hanukkah

If Carly joins her, absolutely.

Dan M

Need to be $10 tier and up.

Joe

What's the Pick-a-Flick thing? The post is locked for me.

Petr Melechin (ElonX)

That’s a really good point.

Dan M

It took a minute, but yes, i remember it!

Dan M

Next to Wrath of Kahn, it's my fave.

Above Average Dave

And 5-10 oh fetches

JohnnyUtah

Cassie! You’re sick again?!?! Someone get this woman a super immune booster for Xmas! Look into Oregano extract, Olive Leaf extract, or Mushroom extract supplements. Hope you and the family are feeling better soon!

Dan M

The western poll would be very short... only three films: HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, OUTLAW JOSEY WALES and PALE RIDER.

Stick Figure Studios

I just watched the Holdovers last night and thought "Cassie would like this". Can't wait to see your reaction!

Michael Siegel

"looks like we might need an A and B poll" Suggestion: Westerns / non-Westerns.

Happy Hanukkah

I predict at least a dozen “Oh My goshes!”

Dan M

I suppose this is one of those instances when butter is better than lard...

Happy Hanukkah

To quote SOME LIKE IT HOT, "nobody's perfect." People make mistakes. Either you didn't read it, you read it and didn't comprehend it or you read it and comprehended it but just forgot. Whichever it is, it's no big deal (from the many comments on the director's poll thread asking "Why was so-and-so left off?" it was apparently a mistake made by a lot of people). You are at least right that the condescending sarcasm probably was uncalled for (I was just venting my annoyance with these unnecessary questions). I also probably should have just let it go and moved on instead of trying to diffuse the tension with even more humor (I thought the winky face might help in that regard) so that was also a bad move on my part (as I said, nobody's perfect). Still, at least I didn't get outright nasty and call you a name like "idiot" or something. That would have been really uncalled for.

Stick Figure Studios

A while back, I bought the "Clint Eastwood - 35 Films 35 Years" box set. The then 80 years old Clint has since proceeded to direct an additional 10 movies.

Happy Hanukkah

I think you would enjoy either Santa Clause is Coming to Town (my personal favorite) or The Year Without a Santa Clause (the Miser Brothers steal the show!) more than Rudolph for the watch along. Rudolph is fine and cute, but the music and the stories of the other two are so much better. Guaranteed you’ll be humming or singing some of those songs for the rest of the holidays.

Dan M

You’re going to like The Holdovers!! And Carly will like Christmas Vacation 🎄 ✨

Lewis Creech

Ditto

Clay F

The scene of Uncle Buck making giant pancakes is just the best

Jakob Rygh

Tis the week to be jolly! Cannot wait to see your reaction to Star Trek 2009, and how you compare it to the OG series and movies! This should a blast! I’ve never seen The Holdovers, but everyone so far is singing its praises, so I’m looking forward to hopefully another Christmas fave to added to my list.

Dan M

It took me a second, but I've been considering recommending she watch that version this year since she's in love with Patrick Stewart now, so I was already very open to the idea.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh, that's who JLP is. That one stumped me.

Mike Lemon

"If you don’t, First Contact will never occur. The Borg will take over your planet. And Data will be lost forever. " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnyBJJI2eqs

Happy Hanukkah

Being an asshole is bad

Rosario Cicero

@Mark- Nice attempted manipulative reply. Be happy "rule one" exists or I would tell you exactly what to do with it.

Mike Lemon

Remembering is also good. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

I’d definitely prefer that one or Santa Claus is Coming to Town over Rudolph.

Dan M

Glad to hear you are watching the CHRISTMAS CAROL that stars Patrick Stewart. This decision is in keeping with your tradition of watching one version of that story each year (previous versions being SCROOGED, A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL and the 1970 musical SCROOGE starring Albert Finney). Next year you should consider either the 1951 Alistair Sim film (generally considered the definitive cinematic interpretation), the CGI adaptation with Jim Carrey (directed by Robert Zemeckis) or the 1984 TV movie with George C. Scott.

Stick Figure Studios

Haha, if she just watches "Enter the Dragon" already, please!

Joe

I have a buttery butt? .....not quite sure how to take that...

mikethemotormouth

Although it is very different from classic Trek, I enjoyed the 2009 Abrams STAR TREK reboot (and I think you will too).

Stick Figure Studios

Insulting sarcasm is uncalled for. I read it I just didn’t remember it

Rosario Cicero

Reading is good. Reading is your friend.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, Eastwood is quite the prolific filmmaker. He directed 40 films over the course of his career, is 94 years old and still going (his latest film just came out a couple months ago). Definitely going to need two polls for him.

Stick Figure Studios

I thought Cassie was supposed to be making her patrons and YT subscribers happy. Isn’t that how these reaction channels work? I’m not saying she shouldn’t enjoy it too but she does get paid for doing this.

Richard Maurer

Also in 2014, Hugh Grant and Graham Norton re-enacted the famous ending to Four Weddings on The Graham Norton show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc_9NJgVOX4

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

JJs Star Trek started strong. Then crashed. Imo.

nick bell

Hi Cassie, I really enjoyed yours and Carly's reaction to Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). You might not know this but, in 2019, the entire surviving cast reunited and made a 15 minute sequel to the film, One Red Nose Day and a Wedding (2019), a short special for the British charity, Comic Relief. It's available on Dailymotion. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x74e7w4

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

This is going to be a wild ride. Star trek is going to blow her mind!!!

JohnnyUtah

It'll be interesting to see if Cassie, after watch the best of Kirk & Picard in TV & film, finds Abrams Trek a bit of an anti-climax

John Drake

Get well all 🤞🙏❤️

Neil Varma

I can't wait for Star Trek! 💙🖖🏽

Future_Boy85

Oh, for ****'s sake. There have been about 30 Trek reactions, going on for over a year. Enough already.

Mike Lemon

Thanks

Rosario Cicero

How about Asian.martial arts poll 2 for January? Things have been a little two nice around here since November and we have romance February coming up. Classic monster poll 2 wouldn’t hurt either.

Richard Maurer

OH YESSS YESITY YES!! The Holdovers is absolutely superb. An absolute Christmas classic from the moment of release.

Ria Grix

"I had a list of 65 directors, randomly drew 7 from a hat..."

Mike Lemon

Hope u and ur family have a great and safe holiday season. With it being the National Finals Rodeo week, this would be the perfect timing for u ladies to react to "8 Seconds" . Merry Christmas 🎁🎄

Patrick Crippen

Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick were glaringly omitted from your directors poll. Is it because you already sampled them?

Rosario Cicero

Absolutely

Rick Rodriguez

"Christmas there will just be one patreon release" I'll throw out the idea I commented last year- watch one extra movie every month (Christmas movie?) and keep it in reserve, then during the 12 days of Christmas release one every day. Two weeks off, but still plenty of content.

Mike Lemon

I hope you'll do a rewatch of What's Up Doc?

To Wa

Can't wait to see reaction for Trek 09, Which I defend as a Trek fan, And the MI episode for PTG.

Rick Rodriguez

Mark

Upcoming looks spectacular...I think I might be most excited for The Holdovers; but Star Trek and MI:DR are pretty @#$%ing cool too.

Steve Mercier

It's kinda a reboot it's described as a narrative continuation in an alternate timeline a what if there timeline was altered what would happen differently kind of storyline.

baz0348

Holdovers is an under the radar feel good gem!

Wes

The Year Without a Santa Claus is by far the best old claymation. You'll be humming the songs all day

Philip G.

Agreed on this. The 2009 Trek movie opened up Star Trek to an entire mainstream audience that previously had little to no interest in anything having to do with Star Trek. You really don't need to know virtually anything about Trek to appreciate that movie, although I guess if Carly has any questions, Cassie would be able to answer them for her.

Stranger2Reality

December already has a Christmas vibe,so much to be appreciative of and looking forward to '25 :)

Celeste McAllister

Awesome, I've been anticipating your thoughts on the newest Star Trek series. Thank you for taking the whole journey. Also here's wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!! 🎄🎅🎁🦌🌨🥧🎆

GomezAddams

You guys remember this teaser for Star Trek 2009? This got me pumped for this one! https://youtu.be/TkZFWr0vR8Q?si=B0E9jeRShmOWV1DI

Looking forward to the Patrick Stewart Christmas Carol. My favorite is the George C. Scott one, but this one is super solid. May have to wipe the dust off my old dvd for the full reaction.

Shad Kanyak

Hey Cassie! I listened to your last Podcast with Carly. FYI Carly can watch the 2009 Star Trek with you cause it’s a reboot of sorts. I remember I saw it with my girlfriend at the time and she never saw any Star Trek and loved it. She went back and watched the original series and loved it even more !

Walter Crockett

Can't wait for Uncle Buck, KKBB and The Holdovers! Also very curious to see what you think of the new Trek.

Stranger2Reality

Finally MI 7 or is it 8? It will be fun to watch with the sisters!

Mike LL

I’m so excited for new trek. You have no idea.
