Up {on the Housetop} Coming

We are here! Its officially December. The kids got lego advent calendars and I am thinking I deserve a chocolate one to count down until Christmas. I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving. I hosted most of Ben's family and it turned out great, despite one tiny cry in my pantry and being too full to enjoy the pie as always.

This week starts the Christmas movies....and Uncle Buck! HA! I feel like in my head because of Home Alone and Planes, Trains and Automobiles and maybe his last name-John Candy feels like the holidays! We also have a Christmas Season Poll going on and it is very close. The two leads are very much surprising me, but I think it will be a photo finish! This December we will have Christmas movies sprinkled in on the channel, but some regular ones as well! I'm thinking a directors poll is up next! Should I draw one from a hat?

Our Christmas YT Live is next weekend! A Friday night! This one is always really fun and I hope to see you there!

I also think for the Butter Live this month I might do a watch-along to a Christmas classic, maybe one of the losers on the Christmas poll haha or maybe one of those vintage claymation ones I keep hearing about. It will be earlier in the month as we are heading to Canada for Christmas (might be the evening of the 18th)

Ok I think that is all the news for now, have the best week, spread Christmas cheer to one and all!

Cassie

Love John Hughes movies. Some of his greats, The Great Outdoors, Ferris Bueller's Day off, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful, Mr. Mom, Weird Science, etc..

Clay F

Where can I find the Christmas Poll

Steven And Chloe Oddi

Crazyivan I agree, I’m just trying to get a Eastwood poll anyway I can! Both the Any which ways and a Kelly’s hero’s would be awesome Clint week!

Mark White

I prefer Clint as an actor than as a director. And decades of more movies to watch. How about a double feature of Every Which Way But Loose (1978) and Any Which Way You Can (1980)? You can't get enough of Clint and Clyde the orangutan. Then you can always come back and watch Kelly's Heroes (1970).

crazyivan

I haven't seen any of them

Scott Pearcy

This may shock and amaze you, but I agree with every word. This is why I push the film so hard. It's not just that I love it, I know without a doubt that Cassie (and Carly) would love it just as much.

Clarence Newman

Can't wait

Matthew Gibson

@Clay F - I really wonder how the super overt racism in 48 Hrs would play today for someone who's never seen it before. I grew up loving that movie in the 80s, but man, I could see that seriously rubbing people today the wrong way.

Stranger2Reality

I'll tell you why An Officer and a Gentleman is one of my all time favorite romance movies: because it shows a real character arc where we go through a serious internal struggle with someone who isn't capable of love at the beginning but is at the end. Most romances or Rom Coms don't have much in the way of a serious conflict, or if they do, then you don't buy the way it's nearly wrapped up at the end. In An Officer and a Gentleman, I fully believe what Mayo goes through and how he is changed by the end. That's what makes that last scene so iconic: because it's so incredibly well earned. There's a bunch of famous romance movies where I simply do not have faith that it will work out with the two main characters (I'm looking at you, Jerry Maguire), but I do not question at all where things are headed after the credits roll for An Officer and a Gentleman.

Stranger2Reality

Clint Eastwood is such a strange director, so many great movies and so many awful ones. I think that's because he churns out so many films (or used to), so sometimes his output really suffers. I think Ridley Scott has the same issue.

Stranger2Reality

I'd like to also voice support for Wind River, as that movie is fantastic. "Luck don't live out here."

Stranger2Reality

After much umming and ahhing, I'll nominate Wes Anderson for a director's poll. Grand Budapest Hotel was well received and I suspect most of his other movies would get the same reception. He's probably not for everyone, there's certainly no denying he's become increasingly arty farty over time, but personally I love the smell of his farts. Also: can't wait for Uncle Buck.

Ian Tonge

Yes that’s the one. But she’s seen worse on the channel.

Aaron Mann

Umm… Wind River, is that the Elizabeth Olsen, Renner movie? Because I’ve seen that once, when it came out and if I remember correctly there are some scenes in that which maybe to brutal for Cassie!

Mark White

I’m only for rewatches if it’s for movies one has “not” seen, or they both have seen, but barely remember. Like I’m talking movies that they watched once, ten years or longer ago.

Cole Jennett

They are never going to lie. If she says she hasn’t, you can trust that.

Cole Jennett

Terry Gilliam poll would be fun.

Jake McNulty

I 3rd a 'Clint Eastwood' poll,'The Bridges of Madison County' 'Dirty Harry' 'Escape From Alcatraz'...can you guy's give the cheesy 80's bubblegum movies a time out!

Celeste McAllister

The 'Revenant' had me rooting for the bear,it's a re-make of the much better, wider scoped 1970 'Man in the Wilderness' with Richard Harris...

Celeste McAllister

IMO, re-watches should be kept to a bare minimum on the channel, at least until Cassie gets through most of her top 200. Perhaps she should query her patrons to see if re-watches would be supported by the majority.

Joe

General Witchfinder. I think they mean a reaction to great movies Cassie and/or Carly have already seen OFF-channel, not re-reactions to things that are already on the channel. It's the only way we're going to get One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Unstoppable.

Clarence Newman

The Kid (1921) The Gold Rush (1925) City Lights (1931) Modern Times (1936) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) Dr Zhivago (1965) Ryan's Daughter (1970) A Passage to India (1984)

Clarence Newman

Lord no. It's bad enough reactors generally feature most of the same movies, the last thing we need is for reactors start uploading multiple reactions of the same film - There's 100 years of cinema to get though including thousands of unwatched titles on Cassie's app

Witchfinder General

Have I said Horror of Dracula recently? I haven’t? Well then Horror of Dracula, there, now I said it

Richard Maurer

At least you’re over that awful Officer and a Gentleman phase you were going through.

Richard Maurer

David Lean / Charlie Chaplin poll pls 🙏 John Candy never fails to make me smile and laugh. Looking forward to Uncle Buck!

Rose

Also wondering if she’s seen them - esp the original RudoIph - my favorite! I recommended the complete Rankin/Bass Christmas Collection for her kids on one of the earlier posts when she was asking for Christmas movie suggestions for the current poll.

Rose

True, I rewatch ones I've already seen.

JohnnyUtah

Wind River is incredible but I think it would be too much, maybe not.

JohnnyUtah

I second Wind River.

John P Tucker

Also One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, which Cassie may or may not have seen but if she has, it was way back in school and she wouldn't have been paying attention to it anyway. "Put the ball in the basket, Chief!!"

Clarence Newman

Can we sneak the World's Fastest Indian on there?

Clarence Newman

Clay. I'm not sure Cassie wouldn't snag A Perfect World as a Popcorn Pick. She likes Clint Eastwood, she LOVES Kevin Costner, so why not? Other stuff has clearly got in the way up to now, but I'm more of the opinion that she'll watch it if it gets suggested at the right time.

Clarence Newman

THE BOY WHO COULD FLY, starring Jay Underwood from UNCLE BUCK.

Stick Figure Studios

She'd also like BRONCO BILLY.

Stick Figure Studios

I'm a Spielberg completist myself (he's my favorite director) so as far as his "remakes" go, I can recommend WEST SIDE STORY as it contains some of his most impeccable staging and camerawork. ALWAYS, like HOOK, is definitely schmaltzy, so if you don't like HOOK, you probably won't like it either although it has some charming moments and some truly spectacular aerial photography. Cassie would love it.

Stick Figure Studios

I have mixed feelings about HOOK. It was definitely a disappointment given the talent involved, but there are also some wonderful moments right alongside the embarrassing ones. Here's my review of it if you're curious: https://boxd.it/5CApDV

Stick Figure Studios

It is, actually, Chris.

Byrd N. Hand

My fear is people would vote for "Dune" (i.e. his weakest film) just because of the more recent version(s). Otherwise, it'll probably be between "Mulholland Drive" (still the best film of the 21st century, as far as I'm concerned) and "The Elephant Man" (his second most 'normal' film after "The Straight Story").

Byrd N. Hand

I guarantee films like "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Red Shoes," "M*A*S*H," "The Fly," "Mulholland Drive," "The Royal Tenenbaums," "Boogie Nights," and "Black Swan" *will* get a good amount of views. They may not do total gangbusters, but they'll likely fare better than things like "Sabrina" or "Four Weddings and a Funeral." For the record, "Hook" is my least favorite Spielberg film. It always came off as bit juvenile and cloying for me. Of course, I've never seen his 2 remakes, "Always" (seemingly often cited as his schmaltziest film) and "West Side Story" (well, I guess it's technically an 'alternate adaptation;' either way, I was never a fan of the musical).

Byrd N. Hand

Eh, even if they've both seen it, its a good watch along movie. I wouldn't mind at all if they started watching some of the bigger movies they've already seen but don't have reactions for.

Earthen

People sleep on Changeling, but I think it's one of his better films that he directed. Fascinating true life story about a serial killer, and police corruption in the cover up. But I think most of you were talking about Eastwood as actor?

Chris Thom

There is NO way Carly has never seen Christmas vacation!!! I guess we'll all be able to tell by the authentic/or non-authentic reactions 😅 I also love Uncle Buck to me a very underrated John Candy film.

JohnnyUtah

Yep, she’s seen that too.

Aaron Mann

Yes to more Clint Eastwood. I like his non-spaghetti westerns -- my favorite being THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES (1976). One of my non-western favorites starring Eastwood is ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ (1979) [RT = 97%] (Danny Glover's first movie -- a minor role). I like INVICTUS (2009) starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman (as Mandella) in which Eastwood directs but does not appear in the movie.

Clay F

+1 for Eastwood poll *THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES (1976) [RT=91%] Nom for Best Music Oscar *ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ (1979) [RT = 97%] Danny Glover's first movie --Pale Rider (1985) [RT = 93%] --High Plains Drifter (1973) [RT = 94%] [there is questionable scene] --Invictus (2009) [M. Damon. M. Freeman is Mandella] [nom 2 Oscars]

Clay F

A Perfect World (1993) ("Clint Eastwood's haunting, ambiguous crime drama is smart and gritty, and features a bravura performance from KEVIN COSTNER"). Cassie has liked this comment more than once. Yet, I don't think would be a popcorn pick. Would have to win a poll.

Clay F

I doubt she’d recognize Roger Moore… even considering the role he’s playing.

Larry Darrell

You missed the mark completely.

Richard Maurer

Does The Revenant count as a native movie?

Chris Thom

Wow.

Richard Maurer

What agenda are you talking about exactly? You say you have no issue yet had the compulsion to post on the only (so far as i could see) post highlighting the hope that female directors would make the poll. Your own words betray you. Are the two i listed not good enough for you? Two highly celebrated directors, with critically acclaimed movies? Perhaps choose to not post or chose your words more carefully.

Michael G

Well, I really think you'd enjoy Wind River. So perhaps a Native American movie poll? You've already done Dances with Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, and Prey (off the top of my head, possibly more). And I don't think you've done a Native American poll before, so I figure that might be a way to get you to react to Wind River.

Aaron Mann

Might be unpopular opinion but I really don’t rate Costner as an actor. I just find him a bit boring as he kinda acts the same for everything he does lol. But regarding Eastwoods movies I’d like her to react to some of his 70s/80 films like Dirty Harry, Firefox, Heartbreak Ridge and Outlaw Josey Wales.

Dean Holt

Also, Bronco Billy. She'd love it.

Stick Figure Studios

Spielberg is my favorite director and I love most of his films, but 1941 Is the one movie of his that I would call outright bad.

Stick Figure Studios

I second a Clint Eastwood poll. One of my favorite directors. I'm currently going through all his films myself.

Stick Figure Studios

She'd recognise Burt ("Hey! It's the guy from Three Men and a Baby!"), definitely Jackie Chan and Roger Moore, possibly Valerie Perrine from "Superman" and Rick Aviles from "Ghost". She probably knows Dean Martin, and if she doesn't know who Farrah Fawcett is, I'm happy to send her a few hundred pictures I've got.

Clarence Newman

I wasn’t necessarily suggesting Heavy Metal but just pointing out that John Candy did voices. There are a lot of animated breasts. I liked Heavy Metal back in the day but was a little much on a recent rewatch. Cassie has liked real (not animated) content having IMDb parents guide “severe” rating for “sex and nudity”: True Detective S1 and Deadpool. BS Dracula also has “severe” rating.

Clay F

Well, I think she should see every film Spielberg directed (except for maybe 1941, the one movie of his that I would call outright bad). Many of the directors you mentioned are great (a couple of them I even thought about including in my list), but ultimately probably not mainstream enough for this channel/community. I also considered Terry Gilliam, Francois Truffaut, Werner Herzog, Federico Fellini, Jacques Tati, Albert Brooks, Andre Tarkovsky, Agnes varta, Elaine May, Jean-Luc Godard and Terrance Malick, but figured that they weren't "popular" enough for a poll.

Stick Figure Studios

Jungle Burger? It's got Bill Murray and John Belushi in it.

Clarence Newman

What are the odds Cassie would recognize more than one celebrity in Cannonball Run? I’m not even sure she’d recognize Burt Reynolds.

Richard Maurer

Clarence😂😂😂

Mark White

Tell me “friend” when did you abandon reason for madness?

Richard Maurer

Cannonball Run

Clarence Newman

Since she's already done "Unforgiven", I gotta go with "A Perfect World" for the Clint Eastwood pick. Also has another she likes (I think) - Kevin Costner.

bgb1975

If she doesn't, I'm doing a Brooks from Shawshank!

Clarence Newman

I am a fan of subliminal advertising, Mark. I will write a book about it once I manage to get Cassie to watch any of the films I suggest.

Clarence Newman

"A Perfect World"!

bgb1975

Delusional. To prove my point, I just liked my own post instead of yours.

Clarence Newman

Where does she get off watching movies without us?? The betrayal.

Chris Thom

Cassie, another good selection of movies. In my humble opinion a Clint Eastwood Poll would be great. So many awesome movies to choose from there. Oh, and another shout out for “The Searchers” please. I know I’ve said this before, but, Thank you for this channel, it’s a go to place for me, to switch off and talk movies and watch you and Carly. Which always cheers me up. Thank you. 😊

Mark White

@Mark, I think we'll get it this month, but I'm assuming she wants Carly for it also.

Joe

Blasphemy. No movie is better than LotR, period, end of sentence.

Richard Maurer

First - chill, I have no issue with female directors or any directors as long as their movies are good. What I’m talking is the fact that most people here have one main priority - to get Cassie to watch their favorite movies. Any other agendas are a lesser priority. That’s why people are listing movies here.

Richard Maurer

“The Searchers” It’s probably my Favourite Wayne Western. In the UK it’s a guarantee to be on over Christmas time. I really hope Cassie watches this soon.

Mark White

Happy Birthday🎂

Mark White

How a random pick poll from the top 2000?

Richard Maurer

I’ve got a horrible feeling Joe, that one has been put aside for now. Doesn’t look like it’s coming anytime soon. Which is a shame, we know Cassie would enjoy that one.

Mark White

Has Carly?

Byrd N. Hand

That awesome, really jealous never seen it on the big screen.

Dean Holt

Love The Last Starfighter. One of our theaters gives it a screening every couple of years and I try and go.

Liz Painter

Clarence, I do love how you manage to randomly squeeze in “Cannonball run” into lists! One of my Favourites as a kid.

Mark White

She's already seen way more Spielberg films than any other director on the channel. I submit the likes of David Lean, Powell & Pressburger, John Cassavetes, Robert Altman, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Darren Aronofsky. And who's Marion Scorsese? 😏

Byrd N. Hand

Clay, I’ve got to ask? Outlaw Josey Wales? or Palerider? If you had to choose?! I think I’m in the minority, I just, by a slim margin, go for Palerider. I would explain why, but I don’t think I can without Spoilers!

Mark White

Frankly, I feel a lot of romantic 'costume dramas' start feeling the same after a while. Nonetheless, I'll submit my 2 favorites: Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" and Polanski's "Tess."

Byrd N. Hand

How many R-rated films has Cassie viewed thus far? Alien, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, et al., -- one might think that she'd grown desensitised to this sort of thing by now, yes?

Robert N Douglass

"The Boys in the Band," "The Brink's Job," "Sorcerer," "To Live and Die in L.A.," and "Killer Joe" also deserve mention.

Byrd N. Hand

Clint Eastwood Poll please!!! But…..for me, it’s difficult to suggest which Clint movies to watch?! I personally like Outlaw Josey Wales, Palerider and so many more classic westerns plus the Dirty Harry movies. BUT, if I was to pick Clint Eastwood movies for Cassie, I would pick something like Space Cowboys Which I’m not really a big fan of. I mean it’s ok, but nothing I would get excited about. “Every which way but Loose”and it’s sequel would be a good call for Cassie as well.

Mark White

Yes, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson first met on "Volunteers." I personally think it's one of Hanks' lesser '80s movies, though.

Byrd N. Hand

Wow I’d forgotten all about The Boy Who could Fly. I think I definitely need to rewatch it as it’s been so long. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻

Dean Holt

I've never seen the "Which Way" duology, but, even though Eastwood didn't direct them, they appear to have their fans. Not mentioned yet is his directorial debut, "Play 'Misty' for Me"... and even though he only directed one outing, the Harry Callahan pentalogy.

Byrd N. Hand

I have seen the original Vacation movie. Good stuff. I have no idea why I haven't watched Christmas Vacation. I will correct that this year.

Walter

Brewsters millions, I’ll second that! Richard Pryor, John Candy. Another Good choice for Cassie.

Mark White

As the saying goes, there are 2 good "Vacation" movies (original and Christmas) and 2 bad ones (European and Vegas). From what I've heard, the 2015 sequel/remake hybrid isn't that great, either.

Byrd N. Hand

The Boy Who Could Fly (1986) written and directed by Nick Castle is one of my favorites… As is The Last Starfighter (1984).

Larry Darrell

I feel Cassie might get "Dazed and Confused" more if she saw "American Graffiti" first. Then you could tell her it's basically a '70s "American Graffiti."

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, Zemeckis had only done "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" at that point... and was still a year away from "Used Cars"... and 5 years away from "Romancing the Stone." He didn't have the 'cred' yet to direct a larger-scale film like this at that time. In spite of its shortcomings, I still think the subplots concerning Slim Pickens and John Belushi are legitimately hilarious.

Byrd N. Hand

Concerning “Messes”; my favorite “Mess” is Ron Howard’s “The Paper”(1994). Such a great “Mess”.

Uncle Phoenix

Uh huh, what result are you speaking to? They are directors, who as a result meet the qualifications for being placed on a Directors poll. No one is talking about who should win said poll only a submission of names to include. So what exactly are you taking issue with?

Michael G

Its popcornrequst. com or if you're on PIB discord there are links.

David Freese

It’s unfortunate that 1941 gets so much hate, I’ve always enjoyed it and think it’s a good comedy especially the bits with John Belushi as the crazy Fighter pilot. Another good comedy war movie is Kelly’s Heroes I’ve been hoping for Cassie to watch this for years lol.

Dean Holt

I think she should do an Eddie Murphy week in January. 48hrs, first two BHC or the 1st BHC and The Golden Child, Harlem Nights or Life. Also how do you look at the most requested movies.

Dean Holt

It’s on the poll and unfortunately loosing, but yes I agree it’s an excellent Christmas film.

Dean Holt

Great pick, I’ll throw in Brewsters Millions as well.

Dean Holt

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you finally my favourite John Candy movie. Regards to director poll I’d love to see more Clint Eastwood movies on here or Tony Scott or Nick Castle just because I what Cassie to watch The Last Starfighter lol

Dean Holt

Yes, obviously her 3 kids were immaculately conceived. 😏

Byrd N. Hand

Cassie mentioned in the Live chat that she has seen that one

Darren Harrison

It comforts me, Richard, to know I'm not the only one obsessed with a particular film. Mine's better, of course. The women have better hair and, for the fight scenes, I'd put Mayo v Foley up against the Battle of Helm's Deep any day.

Clarence Newman

One Ring to rule your stomach.

Richard Maurer

One ring?

Richard Maurer

Because Cassie doesn’t know about S-E-X yet? /s

Richard Maurer

@Michael - l appreciate the sentiment but here it’s always about the result.

Richard Maurer

Thank you, gents! 😁 3 + 6 = 9. I still feel young. 😄

Zane From Canada

Hmmm. Robert Zemeckis was one of the writers for “1941”. A Robert Zemeckis version would definitely be different; but you have to remember that “1941” came out in the 1970’s. People were still rolling around listening to KISS on 8-Tracks; and Robert Zemeckis was still in his Twenties. So,…Therefore, maybe it would have been better. 🤷‍♂️

Uncle Phoenix

I thought I'd remind Cassie's "fans" - as much a I loved Heavy Metal (1981) when it came out (16 yo heavy metal music fan)...it is an R rated cartoon with a fantastic soundtrack (if you like that genre), but the animated t&a and sex scenes might be beyond her limit of what she wants to watch. Can we all remember who we're recommending movies for???

crazyivan

You're better off watching the OG Vacation...John Candy is in that one, too...and Christie Brinkley.

crazyivan

Ip Man, The Raid; Redemption, Hero, Kung Fu Hustle, House of Flying Daggers…..there are so many great ASIAN martial arts movies. No need to put sub par American ones on the poll. But if we have to have an American one it should be Bloodsport.

Richard Maurer

This was about inclusion on the poll, not the final result.

Michael G

It is a poll about directors. They are directors, no reason to not include them.

Michael G

Nope. I'm checking into a motel and swallowing a ring.

Clarence Newman

🤣

David Freese

Cassie wants your DOR. You can’t give in. We got nowhere else to go.

bknsty14

You list some excellent directors. With Linklater, i would be going for Dazed and Confused. School of Rock would be a consolation. With S Coppola. I would be going for Lost in Translation. I added Ridley Scott as a last choice as an afterthought -- would be going for "Kingdom of Heaven" (director's cut) and maybe "American Gangster." My guess is Gladiator 2 would win. In all, my No. 1 desire of these is Lost in Translalation. My No. 2 is Dazed and Confused (which Cassie may not get but that's fine).

Clay F

(In true Darth Vader voice) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

shireknight

Are you going to bring "The Shop Around the Corner" to YT this year as you did with "White Christmas" last year?

Byrd N. Hand

"Gremlins" remains one of my top choices for her to re-watch with Carly (assuming she hasn't also seen it), along with "What's Up, Doc?;" 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest;" and "Whiplash." Given that Cassie is now re-watching "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" with her, who knows?

Byrd N. Hand

I love Linklater, but he might be too 'indie' for many viewers, outside of "Dazed and Confused" and his more blatantly commercial cash grabs of "The School of Rock" and his "Bad News Bears" remake. I also enjoy Coppola, but sometimes gets a little too 'girly' for my tastes. I still refuse to see "Marie Antoinette" and "The Bling Ring" (the latter perhaps more for its awful title 🤐). I'd rather Cassie look more into her dad's films, particularly "The Conversation" and "Godfather III." Outside of "Prometheus" and "The Martian," I feel Ridley Scott has largely lost his way over the last 15 years... but I would certainly go for reactions to "The Duellists," "Legend," the Director's Cut of "Kingdom of Heaven," and "American Gangster." Other directors I'd nominate for this hypothetical poll: John Cassavetes, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Darren Aronofsky.

Byrd N. Hand

Did the "Santa Clause" movies really mess up people's ability to spell 'Claus' *that* much??? 🤦‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

"1941" is a mess, but, like many of Robert Altman's, Terry Gilliam's, and Richard Kelly's films, it's an amusing mess, at least. I still wonder if it would've been any better if Robert Zemeckis himself had directed it instead. 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

I honestly feel that "The Great Outdoors" hasn't particularly aged well. As far as Candy's supporting roles, I feel Cassie's next ventures should be "The Blues Brothers," "Stripes," and "Little Shop of Horrors." As far as his *leading* roles go, "Summer Rental" (to which anyone has yet to react) is his best outside of his John Hughes collaborations, IMO.

Byrd N. Hand

Also, I was going through Clint Eastwood's IMDB page a few years ago because I was convinced I'd watched everything he ever made. Turned out the one and only film I hadn't was.....Trouble With The Curve.

Clarence Newman

Clay wants 48 Hours, I want Beverly Hills Cop. Therefore Cassie should cop both over a 48 hour period.

Clarence Newman

Stripes!

Clarence Newman

Brace yourself. As with many other great movies, she has disgracefully watched that one off-channel.

Clarence Newman

It's nothing, Clay. I'm having a moment. I feel like Fiona in Four Weddings, gazing at the boy I love as he pours his attention on another, knowing that he will never......nope, that's a bad analogy. I'll try again. I feel like Ben Hanscom in "It", gazing at the girl I love, knowing she will never look my way because she consistently loves another. First it was Son-In-Law, then it was Howard the Duck, now my dreams are being Chevy Chased out the door to make way for Uncle Buck. I must accept an undeniable fact. No matter how much I want Cassie to see Ensign Seegar get over that wall, there is clearly too much sugar in the britches and she isn't going to make it. Maybe if I switch my allegiance to GI Jane!? Or Stripes! That's got John Candy in it. Anyway. To therefore sum up............sigh.

Clarence Newman

John Candy does voices for characters in "Heavy Metal" (1981) (a Canadian movie, by the way)

Clay F

I have nostalgia for Uncle Buck. I like Planes, Trains. I liked Heavy Metal back in the day but was little much on a recent rewatch.

Clay F

What's up Clarence. A sigh of relief? An introspective sigh?

Clay F

Just please no Cynthia Rothrock.

Clarence Newman

And Ong-Bak is epic (Tony Jaa, 2003)

Clarence Newman

Hong Kong Jackie Chan at his best - Police Story (1985), Drunken Master (1978), Project A (1983) - in that order. Although I think she could have a fun introduction to the early Jackie with either Cannonball Run or Battle Creek Brawl (his first American films.)

Clarence Newman

Every Which Way But Loose

Clarence Newman

Sofia Coppola > Lost In Translation, which Cassie, astonishingly, hasn't seen yet.

Clarence Newman

Sigh.

Clarence Newman

I agree 🙂🙂 Having a "Popcorn request week" now and then. Nr. 1 - The highest ranked on popcorn request. Nr. 2 - Cassie picks what ever she wants from top 50 (or 100) Nr. 3 - This is so totally crazy. Cassie does a reaction off the highest ranked non-english movie on popcorn request 🙂🙂🙂

Björn Karlsson

I realised yesterday that you haven't done Gremlins yet, that's one of the greatest Christmas movies ever. (Sorry I was half asleep and accidentally sent this as a reply to your email instead of posting it here lol)

shireknight

It's a smash!

BRT

@ cole Those are old network TV shows though, so a lot of people haven't seen them!

BRT

Yay to Christmas Vacation!

BRT

I just think Cassie would like Beverly Hills Cop more than 48 Hrs. Not saying I'd be unhappy with it I believe its more a Cassie movie with the music and lighter tones on the picture. But just an opinion.

David Freese

I know it's #1 on app, but other than that, why not start with the first = 48 Hrs

Clay F

Sofia Coppola & her aunt Talia Shire...

Celeste McAllister

'A Charlie Brown Christmas' i sent Cassie a copy 3yrs back,! 😀

Celeste McAllister

Uncle Buck yay!

Nicole

I’ve been pushing for rewatches for a very long time. I’m positive that Cassie barely remembers the events of Forrest Gump or Good Will Hunting, but I know she’s seen them. I’d also love to get The Imitation Game on to the channel!

Cole Jennett

My country is Texas,it's not a state,iit's a Republic! :)

Celeste McAllister

Potential for a fun LIVE chat.

Chris Thom

Happy Birthday!

Chris Thom

Might be time for some rewatches. One that Cassie or Carly hasn't seen but the other has.

Chris Thom

LOL

Chris Thom

John Williams is from Boston and conducted for the Boston Pops Orchestra. Everyone knows all about 1941, Star Wars,…etc. Because we had to hear it every single year growing up.

Uncle Phoenix

My mom loves Bridges. Curious what Cassie would think.

Chris Thom

Never really heard that much praise for it. But John Williams is always incredible. And Spielberg almost always is.

Chris Thom

Sofia Coppola and Kathryn Bigelow

Chris Thom

Agreed. She could show that to her kids, too.

Chris Thom

Enter the Dragon is boring……no, no that’s not right. If she does Jackie Chan movies they’d end up being the American ones - no thanks. And I doubt if 99% of the people here know who Sonny Chiba is.

Richard Maurer

No, but I enjoy the looks of bewilderment and dismay that Cassie puts on during a movie like this :-)

Richard Maurer

I say let the best director win based purely on the quality of their work.

My_Cousin_Mose

It’s mind boggling that she wouldn’t have seen Rudolph!!

Cole Jennett

Have you seen any of the old claymation Christmas specials? Surely you've seen the original Rudolph? I just checked popcorn requests and if its correct you definitely need to! Like next week! If you had seen that one I'd also suggest Rudolph's Shiny New Year or The Little Drummer Boy but if you haven't seen the original thats the one to watch.

My_Cousin_Mose

Another superb choice.

Zane From Canada

A Jim Hensen gem

Dan M

Thanks Cole.

Clay F

I’m all in for another baseball movie.

Dan M

@ Joe Enter the Dragon is boring. Better to have a Jackie Chan or Sonny Chiba poll

Witchfinder General

Disagree, it should be Canadian Bacon.

Mike Lemon

If you're good enough you're the right gender

Witchfinder General

Claymation hey? Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit is really fun. This looks like a great week of movies too.

Gray

Tae kwon january

My_Cousin_Mose

The next John Candy movie has to be The Great Outdoors. 😄

Zane From Canada

Cassie, you weren't being ducked, you were being goosed, or turkey'd.

Mark Vaderr

Charles Bronson

Brian Wood

Really looking forward to Uncle Buck!

Robert da Spruce

You can cross Million Dollar Baby off your list, she saw it pre-channel

Cole Jennett

It feels like it’s time, yeah

Cole Jennett

If Carly hasn't seen the newer Miracle on 34th Street, that would be a top candidate to me.

Shawn Kildal

Need to do Meet Me in St. Louis at some point. Kind of does a few holidays, but its where "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is from.

Jakob Rygh

Oh it's a gorgeous name. Up there with Katherine, Miranda, and Kimberly.

William Bryan

I've always loved that name,Right out of Homer, Cassandra of Troy,Princess and high priestess of Apollo.

Celeste McAllister

I'm all in for a Clint Eastwood director poll. I like your movie list. Some of my top choices: --THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES (1976) --Pale Rider (1985) --High Plains Drifter (1973) --Invictus (2009) --A Perfect World (1993)

Clay F

This isn't for Christmas but we need Beverly Hills cop soon #1 on app for a long time now

David Freese

I mentioned Emmet Otter in the last update.....glad to see it mentioned again

Joel Wayne

It has someone else from another movie shed seen. Just not sure she'll recognize the actor/actress

David Freese

He definitely stars in it. Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake as well. Baseball movie.

Cole Jennett

Cassie, the rebellious daughter in Uncle Buck also played Rowena in Mr. HoHolland's Opus

Shawn Kildal

Oh a directors poll!!! Might I suggest including female directors, as such conversation tends to be male dominated. Two I will put for Agnes Varda and Kelly Reichardt.

Michael G

I have actually never watched Christmas Vacation.

Walter

I'm looking forward to this overdue Western poll being won by Rango! :-P :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Yes, I really like that one too

Katie Jackson

I love the Rankin Christmas special! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAflgMiwm-g :-) And if Cassie prefers a Canadian family closer to her neck of the woods (though alternately solituded): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilkk03y_j9s&t=1620s

Happy Hanukkah

I don’t see it on the list of movies he’s directed. I’m not familiar with that movie.

Dan M

Nope, haven't heard of that one. I'll have to look it up

Katie Jackson

You should all subscribe to the podcast. There’s been a ton of movies suggested in these comments that she’s mentioned seeing in just the last couple episodes alone.

Cole Jennett

She’s definitely seen that.

Cole Jennett

“Get my country’s name out of your … mouth!”

Cole Jennett

Did he do Trouble with the Curve? I’d like her to see that one.

Cole Jennett

+1 for 1941 (1979)… does Not make it 1942. ;-)

Larry Darrell

You've inspired me to nominate another great Christmas movie: A Night at the Opera (1935). With a Queen soundtrack, no less! /joke

Happy Hanukkah

I have to open another Xtra butter membership,my original is payed up till August 25,idk if I can do a roll over to the new account 😅

Celeste McAllister

I don't need a reason to watch John Candy and Christmas Vacation just a suggestion and I there

DreBone1986

I thought of another Christmas movie, “1941”. Steven Speilberg’s FIRST WW2 movie. No Spoilers; but it is a great light-hearted Steven Spielberg movie. It has a first rate cast, including John Candy. Edit: Also, it has one of the greatest score’s ever, written by The John Williams. #2 Edit: BTW the film is set in Southern California on December 13, 1941. So, next week would be perfect.

Uncle Phoenix

Nice to have you back! We’ve been asking about you over there. “Googly mess” 🤣

Dan M

Have you ever seen Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas? If not, check it out. It’s up there with the Rankin and Bass Christmas Specials on my must see list every year.

Dan M

She could put us out of our misery and just watch "Enter the Dragon" for freaking sakes, lol!

Joe

Yes!! “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is my favorite holiday movie!

Darren Harrison

For the director’s poll, I’d like to suggest Clint Eastwood and the following movies: - Jersey Boys - Mystic River - Space Cowboys - Heartbreak Ridge - The Bridges of Madison County - Sully

Dan M

Happy Birthday, Zane! 🍻 🎂 🎉

Dan M

“Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face.”

Dan M

My old 3k tablet suffered a CPU meltdown and it's been a Googly mess,I'll be back soon...good news is I have a new 4k tablet. 😀

Celeste McAllister

I thought of another Christmas movie that I am not sure has been seen or reacted to. Yes Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus

Joel Wayne

I’m thinking maybe Celeste meant as a re-watch? And that’s what I was suggesting with You’ve Got Mail. Maybe once a month or every couple of months she can do a re-watch of a hit movie that she saw prior to the channel. Like Love Actually, Grease, or Big.

Dan M

Uncle Buck & Christmas Vacation!! It's gonna be a great week. I'm unfortunately not interested in the two movies leading the poll. I think you'd love every other movie on the poll except for the two in the lead😆although you might like The Long Kiss Goodnight. I love the Rankin & Bass Christmas Specials. I'm actually really surprised you haven't seen them. Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer & Santa Claus Is Coming To Town are the most well known and personal favorites of mine but there are several good one's to choose from. Also, if you've managed to somehow miss A Charlie Brown Christmas all these years than that one would be great to add too and is only about 20 minutes long. Another one that tends to get overlooked is A Garfield Christmas Special that originally aired in the 80's. It's also only 20 minutes long and you can find the whole thing on YouTube for free.

Katie Jackson

New years poll Plan B,'My Fair Lady' 1963...call it payback for 'Howard the Duck' 😀

Celeste McAllister

Where’ve you been, cowgirl? We missed you over in the Extra Butter chat.

Dan M

Yes! Haven’t seen that one in a long time. “Tom Tuttle from Tacoma, Washington”.

Dan M

And John Hughes.....he has plenty more to be watched. 🤣

Joel Wayne

*Royally* ducked. I *demand* a poll of Alexandro Jodorowsky films! ... Alternately, a poll of movies directed by Charles Laughton.

Happy Hanukkah

I don't know. The Honey story is pretty heart-warming in Canadian Bacon. (jk)

Mike Lemon

100%

Dan M

Love it! Or maybe You’ve Got Mail.

Dan M

I'm pretty sure she's seen it😔

Katie Jackson

It’s neck and neck with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for me.

Dan M

It’s funny that Cassie mentioned Home Alone in her post, because Uncle Buck’s got Mac in it pre-Home Alone.

Dan M

Dang it! I was really hoping for Lego Space. They might have had different Lego "kids".

Mike Lemon

My outlook for this week’s line up just got a whole lot better! I am so disappointed that my pick in the Christmas poll is doing so poorly, and that the two movies in the lead, well…one is not a Christmas movie IMO, and the other, it says it all in the title…its bad! But now we have Uncle Buck AND Christmas Vacation?!?! YES!!! Uncle Buck was my 2nd choice to win way back when you did the March Madness tournament, right behind Mr. Holland’s Opus. I always liked a little Candy in my holiday stocking. And you and Carly just did a podcast on Holiday Faux Pas. Christmas Vacation is an entire movie of holiday faux pas! Plus…we get Carly in on the fun! Two thumbs up for a watch along of one of the Rankin and Bass Christmas specials during the live this Friday. I’d be happy with either Santa Clause is Coming to Town or The Year Without a Santa Clause. Can’t go wrong with either one 😁.

Dan M

You like to torture yourself, do you? 😄

Brian McGovern

You're right, its knock off Lego

Brandon

IMHO, Uncle Buck is the John Candy led film with the 'most heart-warming' story and characters by far!

Terry Yelmene

Wait... Lego? Or Lego compatible? I didn't see any Lego space advents this year.

Mike Lemon

We had Tender November, December will have a bunch of Christmas movies, and February will be rom-coms and romance. How about for January we get another Asian martial arts poll or Classic monster poll - or better yet both. I feel like I’ m going to drown in corn syrup otherwise.

Richard Maurer

Awesome. Get the John Candy charm. And time for a rewatch of Christmas Vacation -- been a few years. Yes, to director's poll. Draw from the hat or arbitrarily choose. I nominate: *RICHARD LINKLATER. This year, my son saw him in an Austin grocery store (and no one else recognized him), and I went to his super-cool Austin indie movie theater (only 2 screens). *SOFIA COPPOLA. I like her style. *QUENTIN TARANTINO. If there are enough of his movies remaining you haven't seen. *RIDLEY SCOTT. Any way to try to get THELMA & LOUISE (1991) (groundbreaking). Also "Kingdom of Heaven" (director's cut) and "American Gangster" (Denzel, Russell Crowe, Josh Brolin).

Clay F

I freaking love Uncle Buck. My favorite John Candy flick.

Godzilla Jones

"Going to Canada in winter" is a cry for help.

Mike Connaghan

My mind went to John Carpenter and George Romero, but to each their own.

Richard Maurer

Looking forward to it in an odd sort of way.

Richard Maurer

I've got a space shuttle Lego Advent calendar myself, it's going to go in the nursery, we are doing a space theme.

Brandon

What's up for New Years? 'When Harry met Sally' I'm hoping Cassie, you'll put it on a poll. 😀

Celeste McAllister

She's seen them, I'm guessing. (off the channel)

Philip Alan

We're long overdue for another western poll!

Celeste McAllister

She hasn't done Home Alone 1 and 2 yet

Redrum Ritual

How about a 2 for 1...a young Tom Hanks and John Candy (and Tom's wife)? Volunteers (1985).

crazyivan

Hi Cassie, can we expect "An Officer and a Gentlemen" this month? You did say it was coming very soon in the "First Contact" premiere.

Joe

One of his darker movies more in the vein of The Exorcist.

Chris Thom

I always watch the vintage stop motion ones every year, have since I was a kid. I just watched Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with my daughter for the first time. So fun! Those two are my favorite. I would love to watch them with you!

Lesley and Zack

Missed that one. Will have to seek it out!

Chris

Instead of more polls how about just selecting top rated movies from your app?

Witchfinder General

I thought so. But I think they did The Lion King instead.

Chris Thom

EVERYONE NEEDS JOHN CANDY ALL THE TIME! (I just shouted that in my office and figured I might as well shout it here as well.) Needless to say, I'm excited for UB!❤️

Liz Painter

Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, and Harry Connick Junior. Friedkin movie from 2006. It's essentially about drug-induced paranoia.

Chris Thom

Director's poll might include Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemekis, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher and Alfred Hitchcock.

Bill McTague

Wasn't there supposed to be a WALL-E reaction for Carly's first time seeing it??

SeanATX

I don't know. She did mention that her in laws were divorced, with both staying at the house. But who knows. There's always something with stress and hosting.

Chris Thom

Uncle Buck!!! I'm so glad to see this is upcoming. Cassie will love it for sure.

Johnny

Great movie!

Chris

Best schedule in a while

Witchfinder General

???

Chris

Why'd she cry though?

V M

Never really thought she'd take the David Lynch journey. But I'd personally like to see it. Mulholland Drive at least.

Chris Thom

I used to think the Home Alone house was the same one from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Chris Thom

You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

Chris Thom

For some reason I thought the same that first year of Cassie watching Night of Living Dead but it was just me watching it after watching Psycho with Cassie 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

David Freese

That movie BUG is such a freaking trip. The kind of thing only he could get away with.

Chris Thom

We're all winners this week.

Brian's Dog

What's a holiday without a 'tiny cry'. Hey even maybe kind of a big one. Agree that John Candy IS Christmas. RIP.

Chris Thom

In regards to your Director's poll, William Friedkin was a very good film-maker. He probably won't get many votes because he is extremely underrated, but he did make 2 classics from the 70's. One is "The French Connection", a classic cop thriller based on a true story. The other I won't mention because I know how nervous it makes you to just think about. But give "The French Connection" a chance!

Chris

Another movie Candy was in that Cassie might enjoy (if she's never seen it) is Canadian Bacon. It's about an American president who is dealing with poor polling numbers who decides to try to drum up support by whipping Americans into a patriotic fervor by making them think Canada is planning to invade America. It's extremely silly and very funny.

Stranger2Reality

Hi. Im Buck Melanoma. Moley Russel's Wart.

Gro Do

Cute, I love Christmas too!😆

Louisa Moritz

I can't wait for your reaction to Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), there is a really good BBC documentary about it, I love 1994, on YouTube at 18:46. It has interviews with the director Mike Newell and some of the cast, Simon Callow, James Fleet, Anna Chancellor and Charlotte Coleman (who sadly died later that same year she was interviewed in 2001) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmZ55i4tiHM

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Director's Poll? Sounds good, but don't be afraid to do a period piece Romance poll: Sense & Sensibility (1995), Persuasion (1995), Far From the Madding Crowd (2015, Ghost & Mrs Muir (1947) and Frantz (2016) which is haunting yet not scary and romantic yet not quite a romance. You have 3 of those in your collection, so I have my fingers crossed

keoma songs

Fort Apache The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Stagecoach .... He had a ton of great movies. Then add Grapes of Wrath to it.

Bill Maurer

Since he has floated the idea of a director's poll, doing John Ford movies might actually give THE SEARCHERS like a chance.

Stick Figure Studios

Christmas Vacation will be fun. Never watched Uncle Buck myself. Wasn’t a John Hughes fan back in the 80s except maybe Ferris and Breakfast Club. I was an “edgy” teenager so that makes sense.

Scott Macaulay

Yeah, two great movies. 😊 Christmas vacation is hilarious!

Bruce Reid

This should be a fun week. Definitely getting your John Hughes on this week (since he wrote CHRISTMAS VACATION and wrote/directed UNCLE BUCK). I am all in favor of a directors poll: some suggestions are Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, the Coen brothers, Orson Welles, John Ford, Charlie Chaplin, Marion Scorsese, Brian DePalma and Clint Eastwood.

Stick Figure Studios

John Candy is always a good choice. Since Cary Grant's Bishop's Wife is not close to first or second place, how about watching it early in January?

John Liebling

This has been a two year + ongoing campaign for me to get PIB to react to "The Searchers". She says it's on the watch list, and I do trust her. I just gently remind her everyone once and awhile to move it from the watch list to the reacted list. :) I agree, it's the best Western ever and overall Top 10 great film.

Bill Maurer

If there won’t be another Christmas Poll, please consider watching the highest voted Classic film from the Poll, which should be… The Bishop’s Wife (1947). Thank You. Lineup this week looks awesome. :-)

Larry Darrell

If you ever want to see (IMHO) the ultimate advent calendar, I think Hotel Chocolat's Grand Advent Calendar may be it! I just recently purchased it for my mum for her birthday, for the third year in a row! https://www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/large-advent-calendar.html

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Uncle Buck and Christmas Vacation in one week, can't wait! ❤️🎄

Sam Wilson

You make me laugh Cassandra 🍻

William Bryan

What a great week this is shaping up to be! XMas Vacation is my favorite holiday movie! Also, "up on the housetop coming", good one Cassie! Very seasonal and festive!

BibbitduBois

dang it i’ve seen that one!! a classic is right!

Cassie

Can't wait for Uncle Buck! A heart-warming yuletide classic! Cassie, may I suggest another Xmas classic. "A Christmas Story" from 1983. A story about a young boy growing up in the 40's, who gets his most favourite present from the big red fat guy. You'll love it, I promise you.

Chris

100% agree...Uncle Buck is one of my favorites from when I was a little kid all the way to today. Such a great movie... and John Candy was such a funny guy. I don't know if many people remember it, but there was a Saturday morning cartoon show called "Camp Candy" in the early 90's, it was in the U.S. but not sure if they played it in Canada -- it was actually pretty good! It was about a summer camp for kids or something, called Camp Candy, and John Candy did the voice for the head counselor guy who ran the camp... he was really good in it!

Ben Schwartz

So happy with this week's movies, Uncle Buck in particular. This is a movie which truly stands the test of time!

Nick Ireland

weeelll we only had 2 last week so needed a third ha

Cassie

UNCLE BUCK 😅

Jacob Harris

Yikes

Ben Schwartz

Cassie said possible Director's poll and my mind immediately jumped to David Lynch. Just me?

mikethemotormouth

Great to finally have a PiB reaction to CHRISTMAS VACATION. I remember one year frantically searching here on Patreon for the reaction, after convincing myself that I had watched your reaction to NLCV before. The memory of the reaction was so strong in my head I just knew I had seen it. Now to see if the reality matches the imagination!

Mike LL

Couldn't have asked for a better week with PiB. It's my birthday tomorrow.

Zane From Canada

Oh okay great!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

yes that is what the YT live on the 13th will be!!

Cassie

Great choice and a great western. I salute you sir!

Chris

omg BOTH Uncle Buck AND Christmas Vacation?!?! You are in for a treat, Cassie!

Ben Schwartz

Will there be a Christmas package opening as well? Just want to make sure I get it there in time if you do.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Wow. Howard is actually getting a YouTube release. I am 😮

Brian McGovern

Wait…. CARLY HAS NEVER SEEN CHRISTMAS VACATION?!?!?

Mat Walter

"Carly's first time." I'm sorry that just made me bust out laughing out loud for real. *cue head in gutter comments* 🤣🤣🤣

William Bryan

Uncle Buck is such a fantastic movie, John Candy was a (Canadian) national treasure who was unfortunately taken from us far too soon. Also, be sure to watch out for a very brief scene in this movie which I'm convinced planted the seeds for John Hughes to create Home Alone.

Stranger2Reality

Uncle Buck!!! Yay 😀

Wes

"The Searchers"

Bill Maurer

Oooh gonna be good week
