Howard the Duck (1986) - Full Reaction

Comments

Genuinely adorable how much you hate this. It's fun! It's supposed to be silly! It's targeted at 13 year old boys and the humor was *supposed* to be a lot more like Deadpool but they toned it so far down it kinda lost itself. And again, Lea Thompson in this is just... she's just the cutest.

Godzilla Jones

I thought it was funny.

Grad

I didn't expect Cassie to like this one, but there is so much unwarranted negativity in the comments here. HTD has the same cheesy 80's creativity and energy that is beloved in other movies (I'll give Beetlejuice as one example which is not a good movie).

Obsolyeet

Cassie hated this lol, and the only reason PIB fans would’ve voted for this is to view her reaction!

JoshArg

Was definitely waiting for the YouTube edit on that one. LOL. Could make for a fun LIVE chat though.

Chris Thom

What's "wierd" is getting loaded and then making the rounds on patreon.

V M

Battlefield Earth has a 3% tomatometer rating. Best not to mention the movie though, or people will call it a classic and have Cassie react to it.

V M

Great reaction. Yes, very bad movie. I’ve never seen Cassie hold her face frozen in a disgusted / confused look for so long. I can’t believe I spent $4 to rent this crap movie. I forgot how bad it was. Curse you PiB! 😂

JC762

Hollywood screen writer an Sci-fi novelist may actually be largely responsible for the genius that is Star Wars and Empire. Lucas is very good on the technical side and he hires talented people for sound design, production design, costumes etc. But his resume is pretty bad. Radioland Murders anyone?

TheSingulatarian

"Following a test-screening, Universal executives Sid Sheinberg and Frank Price were allegedly arguing about who was to blame for green-lighting this film, which then ended in a fistfight."

Farbod

Some critic once proposed a trivia question for the future: What is the worst movie ever made starring two academy award winners. The answer - Certain Fury (1985), costarring Irene Cara (Fame) and Tatum O'Neal (Paper Moon). Maybe very loosely inspired by the vastly better but now dated The Defiant Ones (1958). Do not watch 'Certain Fury' - an embarrassment to all concerned. I was shocked to find it is now 'included with Prime'. With 4 1/2 stars! But the "customers also watched' at the bottom of the page is a string of old B movies i've never heard of. There are far better films which have disappeared without trace of a dvd or VHS.

xunegrapse

I LOVE QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER

Ace Degenerate

Not anger, just disappointment with how people waste their votes on crappy, um, movies.

crazyivan

I wonder if we all have guilty pleasures like Howard - I know I do. Maybe, now the debates are dying down, it's time to air out the truly crap films that are hiding in our own closets. Mine (I kid you not) is "Rhinestone" (1984) with Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton. Dolly trains Stallone to be a country singer and he ends up performing on stage in an Elvis suit. How bad can it be, right? Yet!!!! I still watch that film every few years and enjoy the goofiness of it. Stallone himself hates that movie, but somehow I can't bring myself to. Even worse than that, I think CASSIE would enjoy it, which might make me a danger to this community.

Clarence Newman

You have survived Howard the Duck" you may now proceed to the next level "Nothing but Trouble". Mr. Bone Stripper awaits.

TheSingulatarian

Hold on. There was a great scene in Howard?

Clarence Newman

I skip lots of reactions, hence the problem :/

V M

I just can't wait till the sequel Howard the Duck 2: Water (2027) leads right into Secret Wars

Chris Retzlaff

The Explorers.....love that movie

Chris Retzlaff

Crocodile Dundee in LA is better than 2 and almost better than the original.

Chris Retzlaff

V M and Clay have to watch every reaction no matter what or they might die...I guess...and need to comment. So they don't want to be subjected to movies like this because they no matter what have to watch it 🤣🤣

Chris Retzlaff

And American Graffiti and Script doctored Star Wars. Space Rabies is a genuine concern

Chris Retzlaff

So your staring at someone watching the tv....Jeff...buddy....thats wierd

Chris Retzlaff

Like Hot to Trot with Bobcat Goldthwait

Chris Retzlaff

This is the most honest answer out there, add the 80s rock look in the dressing room. And her smile....7 out of 10 easy

Chris Retzlaff

This is true, but the rating was introduced months after Dooms release

Chris Retzlaff

Initially PG13 was introduced as a PG film with more violence and blood. Duck fu isn't violent enough. Now if he ate the nose off the dudes face.ththat would be different.

Chris Retzlaff

She's the light were there is only darkness all the time. You can't say your not happy when she shows up in....like...Spacecamp

Chris Retzlaff

Clay you've finally lost sir.....Red Dawn is an exceptional film....WOLVERINES!!! another Lea Thompson gem

Chris Retzlaff

It's not your le baron, it's my le baron 🤣🤣

Chris Retzlaff

Five minutes in I had a taste for a nice Seared duck breast with apricot confit.

Chris Retzlaff

Blues brothers is the only one on this list, the others would feel like I need to write an essay about it.

Chris Retzlaff

Natalie Wood went on to have a wonderful career.......oh....right

Chris Retzlaff

It was a way to show irony, he's a duck who can't and hates to fly. It ends with him not being able to swim as well. Great scene

Chris Retzlaff

👋 this guy in 1986

Chris Retzlaff

She didn't do that, she was messing with him. Harmless flirtation...I was fairly jealous as a child not scarred 🤣

Chris Retzlaff

You bring up something I’ve been thinking on… Since the Batman ‘89 reaction, I’ve wondered if Cassie has been holding back in some of her reactions. She saw the backlash from that kind of Honest reaction to a film and decided, it doesn’t look good, especially when the film is a beloved one. But, with Howard the Duck, immediately she saw that everyone, or mostly everyone hated the movie. She even found out before hand that it was the winner of the Worst Film of the Year Razzie Award. Did all of this give her Permission to react Honestly? Have there been other film reactions that She has consciously held back Honest opinions, so to avoid another Batman ‘89 debacle? We’ll never know I guess. I can’t help but be curious though… if She hadn’t known that Howard the Duck was “the worst film ever made,” would her reaction have been different?

Larry Darrell

Believe it or not, the source material was actually a best-selling comic book in the 1970s. But the comic was a surreal, sort of existentialist exploration of life in post-Woodstock, post-Nixon, stagnating 1970s America, dark and weird and bittersweet. The two responsible for this atrocious adaptation, Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck, absolutely misunderstood the comics and thought it was a silly adventure about a duck from outer space. It is beyond my understanding of who they thought they were making this movie for - it's too juvenile to appeal to adults and too adult to appeal to kids and too stupid to appeal to anyone. Also, the actor voicing Howard just does. not. work. I hate his voice. I hate it.

Patrick Flanagan

Totally forgot Caroline in the City existed.

Chris Thom

This was considered a really bad movie when it came out, so I won't watch the video. Once is enough. Sorry you had to put yourself through this ordeal. I really liked Lea Thompson in other things though (Back to the Future, Caroline in the City).

xunegrapse

It was better than Insurrection.

RJ MacReady

While I agree, you shouldn’t try to watch this movie with a logical mind, but wouldn’t flying be faster than driving?

Larry Darrell

We will start at 90% and if we run out of movies, we'll lower it to 80% :P

V M

That's what she said

Witchfinder General

I loved it as an 8 year old, and still do. Ask me anything

Witchfinder General

I understand. If your goal is to emphasize the great old classics, a RT 90% threshold would be the way to go. To me, would eliminate many high quality modern movies in the 75%-89% range, but I would still join the channel having a 90% minimum.

Clay F

cinephobes and masochists. :P

V M

There are movies I love that would never make the cut. We would never watch Loaded Weapon 1 there. I'm willing to make the sacrifice though. if it means we can watch Citizen Kane, Gone with the wind, On the waterfront, and Treasure of the sierra madre. :P

V M

Gauging from all of the Cassie quotes in the comments, it must be (I didn't torture myself by trying to sit through this). It almost makes me look forward to the YT edit (if there is one). Honestly, though, I always find it refreshing when a reactor doesn't like something.

Art of Free Speech

OMG, dude... tears... tears of laughter!

Art of Free Speech

65% is actually way too low. There's plenty of movies that meet the 90% level. If we run out, we will lower it to 80%. :P

V M

Crocodile Dundee (89%) would make the cut. You could choose not to join the channel because Crocodile Dundee 2 (9%) does not make the cut. This would be a situation where what the people (patrons) want is a 65% minimum. A 60% minimum or even 50% minimum would have prevented Howard the Duck (13%)

Clay F

You're missing the point. Some of us only want to watch the best movies. We will create a criteria so thats exactly what is watched. We only have so much time, and we spend a lot of it watching garbage. PIB - Greatest movies of all time edition!!

V M

No. :P

V M

Thompson is a bright spot in this dark abyss of a movie.

Stick Figure Studios

That was funny.

Stick Figure Studios

Seeing Mrs McFly f*** a duck scarred me as a child

Odd Thomas

Let's be fair, he isn't very good to begin with. He only wrote and directed two good movies - Star Wars (1977) and American Graffiti - and only wrote a handful of good movies- Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade, Willow, and Young Indiana Jones. And Star Wars was mostly his wife and other editors.

Mike Lemon

I'll be honest I can't stop thinking about this movie . Why does it exist ? Who was the intended audience ?

Philip G.

Anyone who voted for Cassie to watch what may be the worst big-budget movie in the last 70 years has a decided cruel streak.

Above Average Dave

"Why are we building an airplane now?!" Cassie, don't go trying to poke holes in a seamless script, it's beneath you.

Keith Jacobsen

And if you’re going off of what Cassie thought, she watched the movie without subtitles for the Cuban and Russian speaking parts, so she only experienced one half of an amazing Anti-War film.

Larry Darrell

Nope. Not Red Dawn (1984). Red Dawn is a beloved Classic.

Larry Darrell

Haven't thought about Love With a Proper Stranger for a long time. Funny thing about that movie. Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood were two of the biggest players in Hollywood, both renowned for sleeping with their co-stars. At the time, Natalie was going out with Warren Beatty, ANOTHER of Hollywood's biggest players and therefore wise to all of McQueen's intentions. His solution was to literally spend every moment of filming on set so he could keep an eye on them. He drove her to work every day, drove her home at night and probably allowed her to go to the bathroom only if he had eyes on McQueen until she returned. I think this is called "Player's Paranoia".

Clarence Newman

Agreed. Everyone needs to stop trolling Clarence! Cassie, the responses here have just confirmed the point I was trying (very badly, it seems) to make. If the majority of your patrons ever dislike a movie as much as they dislike this post of mine, it's probably not worth watching. Lea Thompson in her underwear? Yep, you got me with that one. And as for you, Kent.....STRIPES would be a great remedy to Howard the Duck, so I'm +1'ing your recommendation.

Clarence Newman

I heard Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was one of the first. I think Spielberg and Lucas lobbied the MPAA for a new rating because they didn't want the box office intake to be hurt.

Chris Thom

Lighten up, Francis.

Kent

BIG FISH was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score. No one knows, but I don't think Howard the Duck winning the YT live poll was all trolling. Instead, I think two things among the voting YT subscribers: (1) Howard the Duck has the most name recognition of the 4 choices in the poll; and (2) many have nostalgia for it, having watched it as kids. But, yeah, there could have definitely been some trolling. By the way, as bad as Howard the Duck is, I think Red Dawn (1984) is the worst and most ridiculous movie reacted to on the channel.

Clay F

Can you see Cassie letting her 4 year old watch the movie? Has a PG rating. Wonder why the movie didn't have PG-13 rating? The PG-13 rating came out in 1984. The first film to receive a PG-13 rating was Red Dawn (1984) -- another ridiculous movie.

Clay F

Wait... you didn't like it??

Philip Alan

Yeah, Freddy Got Fingered is definitely a candidate for a worst movie poll. Also "The Room" (2003). Could throw in Red Dawn (1984).

Clay F

+1 for The Blues Brothers (1980) [Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi]. For worst movie, don't forget The Room (2003).

Clay F

gr8 b8 m8, 8/8!

Dioskur

Stop trolling Clarence, its obvious! As much as you hate it, democracy will prevail and neither you nor the other haters can surpress the voice of the people!

Dioskur

Love With a Proper Stranger is a great Steve McQueen rom-com.

Steve Holton

They should actually pay us to watch it.

Patrick Flanagan

Yeah she seems like a huge fan of Gilbert and Sullivan so I'm sure 97% of that movie wouldn't go right over her head

Patrick Flanagan

The quality of the film notwithstanding, this is actually one of the more entertaining Cassie reactions.

Carol_White

Howard the Duck is a Marvel character. This movie isn't really for everyone. I myself have always enjoyed this movie. But I'm easily amused. When you're watching these older flicks keep in mind when they're made. This movie was 86, the first phones with cameras didn't come out until around 96. George Lucas didn't direct this movie. The director would be Willard Huyck. Here's the thing, and I think someone likely said this already, but this movie isn't meant to be taken seriously at all. I mean the premise of the film is a bit outlandish already. I never read the comics but I can only imagine it was pretty oddball bonkers lol. You didn't enjoy it and I know you're not the only one, as I said before this movie really isn't for everyone. Some like it cause they think it's a "so bad it's good" typ of film in their eyes. Others flat out hate it. I genually like it for what it is, a crazy out of this world oddball film with some laughs and a splash of action (no pun intended- or is it?) I have since I was a kid. But that may be why, I thought this movie was a riot when I was kid. (Yeah I saw this when I was a kid. I saw a lot of things I probably shouldn't have growing up lol) I feel that the generation today is especially not going to find this film enjoyable. And hey that's cool there are a lot of movies today that I don't enjoy, and won't even give the time a day. You gave this a watch and so I commend you for that. This is also one of the reasons I don't have a reaction channel, as I couldn't bring myself to watch something that likely wouldn't interest me. But I'm proud of ya. Take care Cassie, have a great weekend!

DM DC

I'm wholly aware of that. My point is that Lucas did not invent Howard the Duck.

Mark Vaderr

Is it worse than Twilight?

Mark Vaderr

Cassie would adore "The Pirate Movie".

Mark Vaderr

Cassie described this as painful. Couldn't have said it better myself. Awful. Terrible movie. I was 13 when it came out and I hated it then. Dreadful. An outrage. Never again.

Walter

I recall paying twice to see it in theaters when it originally came out. Is it weird, sure. Is it truly bad? Lea Thompson in her underwear puts it at a least a 6 out of 10 for me.

TheSingulatarian

"Guys, I want it to be over so bad" - I feel ya, Cassie.

Walter

1 Hour and 26 minutes into the movie: "Guys...that's Tim Robbins. Philsy is Tim Robbins!" - this reaction kills me :)

Walter

"Did George Lucas lose a bet?" - my second favorite part.

Walter

"It's not even half way!" - my favorite part of the movie/reaction so far.

Walter

How do i recommend movies? You need some serious help, girl. This is the second to worst movie…evar! (Battlefield Earth #1). Why not watch: Love With the Proper Stranger. The Blues Brothers. The Searchers. Star Trek TOS: -Doomsday Machine -The Naked Time -Balance of Terror 765874-Unification (8 minutes)

Greg M

It's a very hateful movie.

Stick Figure Studios

My favorite piece of movie trivia is that director Willard Huyck never directed another film after this. Which I think is proof that there is justice in the world.

Walter

And you can say it honestly ;-)

Larry Darrell

I was pretty sure I was never returning to Freddy Got Fingered after the baby delivery.

Larry Darrell

Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is an acquired taste. It holds a special place in my heart.

Walter

oh heck yeah, I agree with that.

Walter

Freddy Got Fingered has to at least be in the running for worst movie ever. But that's probably what Tom Green was going for.

Chris Thom

welp. I decided for PIB I would bite the bullet and watch Howard The Duck (again). 5 minutes in and I hate it. I hate it so much.

Walter

She was really charming in Howard the Duck. As weird and flawed as the movie was, can't imagine many would've considered it her fault.

Chris Thom

“Run Howard! He’s in a bad moood!” C’mon, that deserves at least a chuckle. Well Cassie… I don’t think you found the right “go with the flow” gear for this movie. You can’t be in any kind of serious or logical headspace while watching this film, or else you’re going to be grinding gears all the way through, when you could have been using cruise control. (Did that make cents? ;-) Howard the Duck is not the worst movie ever made. I’ve seen worse. Trust me. It was supposed to be goofy, ridiculous and absurd. Any point in the film was an OK point to laugh, and it was OK to laugh for any reason. The film was meant to be amusing, but a large number of people were not amused. I think word of mouth has hurt this film’s reputation more over the years, more than the number of people that actually saw it and really hated it. Oh Well :-) Hell… I’d rather watch Howard the Duck (1986) than Red Tails (2012). Either way, Howard the Duck is at the very least an interesting part of Pop Culture History and now you’ve experienced it. Yay!! I voted for McLintock! (1963) by the way ;-) A lot of people like to say a lot of bad things about this film, but not every one of its naysayers legally have the right to ridicule it. Now you have every right to say whatever you want about Howard the Duck, because you’ve seen it. You were there, man :-) Was it not cool that Howard the Duck sounded like a James Bond film. Hail John Barry!! He definitely elevated the film from bottom tier. (Lea Thompson knocks it up a few too ;-) Lastly… after seeing this reaction, I’m wondering how… The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) & Mom and Dad Save the World (1992) …will go over with Cassie. I rate these films much higher than Howard the Duck, but there are some similar elements. 🧐

Larry Darrell

What a bizarre suggestion. Do people understand that they have the ability to control which reactions they watch? Why would someone watch a reaction to a film (especially as short as a YouTube edit if we're talking about a separate channel) they haven't watched or dislike enough to not watch? You know what you sign up for before clicking on the video, that's the reason Titles and Thumbnails exist. I'm subbed to tons of reactors who watch things I don't click on.

YodatheHobbit

Nah Def not the worst trek film. But I think I've come to the conclusion it's the worst TNG film.

Miguel

Lea Thompson had previously refused to star in Some Kind of Wonerful, but after the backlash from this movie she reluctantly accepted the role in fear her chances of being offered other roles were going to be substantially diminished.

Shawn Kildal

True.

Chris Thom

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Definitely has a specific appeal to children.

Chris Thom

A Goofy Movie could be a fun rewatch if Carly hasn't seen it.

Chris Thom

Not saying Big Fish was a bad choice, Stick, just that it's an unusual film with a strange feel. My wife and I watched it in full and that's how it struck us. Comments on the reactions were varied too. The same applies to Coming to America, which I Ioved but others had issues with. To clarify then.... Beyond Howard, there were no really bad films this month - even Son-In-Law, which I enjoyed because Cassie did. But most films seemed to have as many detractors as fans and that has made it a weird month - for me and, seemingly, for Cassie. It's an overall feel. If you thought I was insulting your choice of movie, mate, that is certainly not the case. But no one can tell me Howard the Duck wasn't a troll. Edit for Chris's comment. I'm not suggesting the DVD was a troll (and I've specifically given respect above to those who truly like the film), but if I've suddenly become the only one who thinks the YT vote was a troll, then I've woken up in a different universe today.

Clarence Newman

Pretty sure someone sent the time and money to send her Howard the Duck. So fairly sure it wasn't a troll. Seems like it's on a similar level to Willow, which I know some are genuinely fond of.

Chris Thom

Nostalgia overload. Was just watching some parts of it. Not the whole thing. But this and Turner and Hooch were a couple of the very first movies I remember ever seeing. And I do still see the appeal as far as looking back at your inner child. Lucas definitely brought it with some of the special effects. And the score is more whimsical than I was expecting. Can see how this might still be a magic movie for ages 4 to 12 mostly. Can also understand the Razzie. lol

Chris Thom

To quote Major Clipton's closing line in BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI: "Madness! Madness!"

Stick Figure Studios

Duck boobs. Heh heh heh

phillip giroux

In the YT community.

Stick Figure Studios

This is definitely one of the so bad/dumb/cheesy it's good films for me. I do have a nostalgia for it. I don't think anybody was trolling, I love schlocky b movies and the more weird quirky movies more than the insanely violent, extremely serious war movies that every single person on YouTube watches. I do hope we get Howard more in the MCU. Plus Lea Thompson had a hold on my young adolescent ❤️. Thanks for your awesome content!

Ian A

Mine too.

Stick Figure Studios

Good cheesy movies maybe.

Stick Figure Studios

I got my closure. I'm never watching it again.

Stick Figure Studios

Unless He was talking about being "subjected" to torture.

Stick Figure Studios

As the person who selected BIG FISH (along with four other films I deemed worthwhile) for Cassie, I'm gonna take issue with this comment as well.

Stick Figure Studios

She’s doing just fine I’d say. Someone sent Howard the Duck to her and it fluked its way on to a poll. I’m not watching it, but it’s just one movie. People need to move on, and get over it I think.

Cole Jennett

Lea Thompson is rather fond of this film. Being a Director these days, she has made pitches to Marvel to get one made that fits in with MCU.

Galaeanyss Freyja

Son in Law was been recommend to Cassie by well known, long time fellow Patreons as a movie to watch for Thanksgiving. Not a lot of Thanksgiving movies out there, it was seemingly inevitable it was going to be watched. Now, using Cassie's love for Brandon Frasier, Encino Man is being recommend to help recover from Howard the Duck.

Shawn Kildal

I can't say how much I disagree with that comment.

Mike Lemon

And we still have the enjoyment of STAR TREK NEMESIS this week!

Mike LL

Every movie is someone's favorite movie.

Mike LL

See, you lost me at Crocodile Dundee 2, Clay. I know you don't like the franchise, but for those who love the first one (and that's a LOT of people), number 2 is just as fun and funny. Cassie and Carly had a ball with the first one and I have no doubt they would have a ball with number 2 aswell. I respect your opinion, mate, but that 9% is just a joke to me. It's also worth noting that number 3, which is a truly bad movie, scores higher on RT (11%) than number 2 (but a whole point lower on IMDB). Go figure. Overall, I applaud the efforts to find a tweak so that Howard the Duck is not repeated, but even if we use the RT/IMDB etc ratings, 65% is way too high. All we need to do is eliminate the absolute trash, and that would be anything below 25% (Howard is 13%). The rest is pretty subjective.

Clarence Newman

First time I've watched it in ages and must've laughed 20 times. Also love the fact they formed an actual band that play their own music of original songs

Witchfinder General

First time I've watched it in ages and must've laughed 20 times. Also love the fact they formed an actual band that play their own music of original songs

Witchfinder General

At the very least, some kind of lesson needs to be learned from the Howard the Suck debacle. For the most part, really good movies get recommended on here and, for the most part, Cassie does seem to pay attention. She doesn't know these films, after all, so that's why we're here. This month has just been a little weird. Some horrors dropped over from October, Coming To America and Austin Powers are polarizing to say the least, Big Fish is pretty strange, Howard was an obvious troll by YT leadheads, and I don't know where Son-In-Law came from. Was it on a poll? There is always going to be debate over whether a film is good, bad or indifferent, and that's fine. But I think there's only two things that need to change on the channel. 1) YT polls during a live event are ok, but either Cassie or someone close to her needs to go through the DVD pile beforehand to make sure there's no troll-fodder in there. With the greatest of respect to all the good people out there, and the ones who voted for Howard because they genuinely have an affection for it, that choice was a BLATANT troll by most and completely wasted a slot on the schedule of YT's best reactor. Well done, guys, you got her and you got us. But that doesn't mean you should be allowed to do it again. Cassie, please have someone check your DVD pile first and throw out the clear and obvious crap. You don't need to sit through something like that again. 2) You're used to differing opinions, but have you ever seen so many of your patrons warning you away from a film before? Even the horrors don't get as much majority vitriol as Howard got from us, and as you can see, there was a very good reason for that. In future, if enough of us bang on your windows this vehemently, it's safe to say something's wrong.

Clarence Newman

Can you watch "Quigley Down Under" ? Western, Action, love story ♥️

Johnny Salinas

Howard the duck is bad. Nemisis is just average, and far from the worst star trek film.

Thats MR. Baldamort

Whoever said "Art is Subjective" definitely wasn't talking about this movie.

granny_goodness

Nevermind that, just give the public what they want

Witchfinder General

Sign me up. I would be happy with a 65% tomatometer rating or higher. Howard the Duck is 13%. You would know what you are signing up for when you join the channel. The minimum 65% would eliminate, for example, Blade (58%), Underworld (31%), Constantine (46%), Grumpier Old Men (21%), What Lies Beneath (47%), Saw (50%), Predator 2 (30%), and Crocodile Dundee 2 (9%). A. While movie quality can be subjective, for me, doing "Noms of Oscars Past" polls is a way to increase quality of movies reacted to without considering numerical ratings of services. Even AFI Top 100 polls (not considering the specific numerical ranking but the simple fact an AFI Top 100 movie) is a way, though I have hard time connecting with some of the old classics. Yet, those classics help me understand history of the time and get to see charismatic actors. B. An average of rating services as you suggest is a good idea -- as an indicator -- e.g., a weighted number based on: 1. IMDb rating (which is a user rating) 2. Metacritic score 3. Metacritic user score (if a minimum number of users) 4. RT rating 5. RT audience score This indicator (numerical value) if not met would not be used to outright ban a movie, but instead as a red flag to further evaluate whether the movie should (or should not) be included as a poll candidate or reacted to. I have no suggestions at the moment what the "further evaluate" criteria could be. The approach might eliminate some patron jewels but would do more good than harm for those wanting this type of channel. Personally, I consider all of those 5 ratings when selecting among thousands of movies to spend my limited time watching. I typically agree more with RT rating than IMDb score, but not always. Sometimes when a movie has a high RT rating but low RT audience score or low IMDb rating, the movie can be too esoteric for me. Yet, again, the RT rating (critics) has done me right -- the proof is in the pudding. I also look at individual critics who I tend to agree with. Plus, I ask family/friends.

Clay F

Yeah the score is really good. Was just listening to some of it, and it's pretty fantastic.

Chris Thom

I'm watching this in the hopes of some sort of therapeutic closure.

Steve Mercier

It was voted on by YouTube viewers in one of her LIVEs. By a large margin.

Chris Thom

Hahaha I loved her reaction to this, maybe we should get her to watch more cheesy movies.

JPDotCom23

I’m watching Cassie’s reaction without watching the movie along with her. Not even a 24 year old Lea Thompson could get me to watch this movie.

Jeff

It was sort of a big deal at the time, and it's an acquired taste, it's not for everyone, technology wasn't as far back then as it is now, scripts still suck. This one was written by the team that brought you 'Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom'.

JPDotCom23

You don't let your kids say "stupid"?! My mom was triggered by that word and we were also forbidden to say it. If we said it we HAD to apologize even to inanimate objects. So if I stubbed my toe and say "the stupid chair" I had to apologize to the chair. Because of how stupid THAT was I would sometimes refuse and would get in real trouble. We laugh now about how ridiculous that was.

My_Cousin_Mose

does the person who requested this mess of a movie what to clarify why they thought this movie was worht a reaction?

Augustine Lee

Oh yeah that's right! Thanks 😁

Wesley White

Her YT subscribers may expect a YT edit because won a YT live poll. It was her YT subscribers who voted for Howard the Duck

Clay F

Popcorn In Bed Elite, a branched off PIB channel where only movies with a 90% tomatometer rating or higher are watched. Don't like rotten tomatoes? We will average rotten tomatoes, imdb, and metacritic ratings. Quality control. High quality movies for high quality Cassie!!! Cassie's reactions are top notch, and the movies she watches should be as well.

V M

Someone probably already mentioned this but Howard does show up on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Avengers: Endgame

JPDotCom23

I have a suggestion. (I have noticed that most YT creators like to do short little reactions to comedians.) I think that a great way to drive subscribers to her Patreon channel is to offer Full Reactions to Whole comedy specials and then just release a highlight reel for YT.

Uncle Phoenix

no thanks lol

Andrew Rose

Their two daughters act.

Clay F

My prediction was correct.

Matt Jamison

Nope.

YodatheHobbit

In what rating world is McLintock rated below Howard the Duck?

Shawn Kildal

I did a first watch of the movie early this morning. I was 23 and got married in 1986. My guess is the trailer did nothing for me -- that's why I didn't see the movie at release.

Clay F

lol yes I can say it's been topped many of times

Snacky Munchies

Were you a kid when it was one of your favorite movies of all time?

Clay F

You are correct on that

Shawn Kildal

When I think about it, Howard The Duck's story is kind of like THOR 1? (half joke, half serious) 😁 You seemed to have forgotten what kind of movies older child/preteens boys liked, haha. We liked weird things from outer space and found them cool, and Howard fit that criteria for me. And we never had an eye for things like "script quality" or "acting quality" yet at that age. I honestly don't understand what people find creepy about Howards face. Take Donald Duck's face and make it in 3 dimensions and you'd get about the same thing. The 80's in general was this kind of cheesiness and bad acting, similar to Short Circuit and Masters of the Universe(He-Man) which I don't think you've seen yet. Again, I saw it when I was like 8-12, so all the adult things I just took as adult stuff, not even a thought in my mind about it being "adult sex stuff", but just "boring things I'm uninformed about (oh look, a random object in Howards wallet!) which I didn't understand and didn't need to understand to enjoy the movie. The movie absolutely starts to get a little lost in itself and too long at the restaurant and when the plane chase starts. Even I really wanted that to end already! Not remembering the plane chase, at first I thought it would be kind of cool, but I was wrong. From the beginning of the movie till when the 3 men suddenly invade Beverly's apt in the middle of the night(even with the door open, weird!), and the end when they arrive at the lab I actually did still find enjoyable. I find it best to think of Howard in line of the TMNT, in terms of his relationship with their female leads, this one, of course a bit more grown up than the first 1990 TMNT movie, but for the 80s honestly not THAT much more so. The 80's had a lot of "weird thing/s meet beautiful lady plots". That "sexy spa" place indeed was odd. I don't really know what kind of place it was suppose to be. I wanna say maybe a "rent a spa room for couples" type of place, but I really don't know. Maybe it really was suppose to be just a spa brothel, (a spathel?). Strange. One positive about this film which I'm sure people other than me would actually agree on, Leia Thompson did all of her own singing for the film, and I actually find a few of the songs pretty good. Liked Hunger City.

YodatheHobbit

@Stick - You know I'm not.

Mike Lemon

Can I suggest Encino Man 1992, it's the movie that Brendan Fraser and Pauly Shore made that they referenced in Son In Law and it's a fun comedy I think you might enjoy once tender November is over

DreBone1986

Howard the Duck the comic book is fun and dead serious but the movie is just his name only which is one of the many reasons it bombed. Also George Lucas was on a roll before backing this and then he saw the movie and only added his name to the changing script and ballooning budget. He only helped to begin with because his friends were writers doing their first picture and needed help with funding and once Lucas was attached everything changed including the script and look and tone of the film. The main appeal of Howard is he's a dirty Donald Duck in the "real Marvel world" dealing with extraordinary things and commentating on it. He's more of a Deadpool in duck form but doesn't talk to the audience, he just acknowledge that this is weird as it's happening and he's also horny at times because of the writers of that time. To translate all of it to a live action movie it was doomed to fell especially if you don't go all in and it was a comic series made for a very niche audience of comic readers and then they changed everything about it because Disney sued for it looking like Donald Duck in the comics which is why he wears a suit and hat in the comics and later this movie. So the movie also couldn't look at all like Disney either so I think that'd why it became this monster of changes and misdirection instead of pulling the plug, nobody wanted to say no to George Lucas who already downgraded his involvement but did promote it because his friends were attached. Long story short it's a mess and I was as confused watching it with you in this reaction again as an adult and I already knew about most of the problems but it's another to see the movie in action

DreBone1986

I loved this film when it first came out. It's really dated now and a bit odd. Back then it was one of my favorite movies of all time. It to me was like what Marvel was in the beginning. It doesn't get enough love for being what it was a reach into a different universe. A start for me on the road to fantasy and comics. If it would have taken off, we would have seen more comic book movies back then also

Snacky Munchies

Indeed.

Stick Figure Studios

It's very close.

Stick Figure Studios

I didn't have your discerning taste when I was 11. I actually liked it. Had to grow up a bit to see it was terrible.

Stick Figure Studios

I was 11 years old when I saw this in 1986 and even then I could see it was terrible.

Patrick Flanagan

I really hope you're joking.

Stick Figure Studios

Despite knowing this movie is terrible, I have still owned it on VHS, DVD and now 4K. Bad movies can be just as fun as the good ones.

Shad Kanyak

Thankfully I have avoided those movies so far in my life. If they did get a reaction, I'd just skip it.

Stick Figure Studios

Just not *too* many bad ones because then you start building up a tolerance to them (like a drug).

Stick Figure Studios

Howard does say "Tora! Tora! Tora!" at one point in the film.

Stick Figure Studios

Remembered a film the other day that Cassie would probably enjoy, but now I've forgotten it again!🙈 As Kirk would say, must be getting senile! I'll try to remember what it was in case she hasn't seen it.

Chris Clarke

greggreggreg2000

Sorry Cassie. I love you and and your reactions but I refuse to watch this again. Saw it in high school after smoking a whole lot of weed and it was still painful for me to watch. I don’t ever wanna see Duck titties again.

Alex Gorell

Who would have thought that a movie about a duck would contain so much ham? Unfortunately for the "Buckaroo Banzai" fans, this may be an insight into what that reaction could be like. Jeffrey Jones comes on screen, "he looks like a villian"... funny you should mention that... probably best not to look into that too far. Lea Thompson has a bit of life imitating art from this... she actually did end up with someone named Howard... director Howard Deutch. I have been thinking about this a little bit, even before the ep 8. Popcorn to Go podcast, and I think Lea Thompson's young "Lorraine McFly" may have been my first movie crush as small lad, either that or Elisabeth Shue's "Ally" from the the original "Karate Kid". Never saw this as a kid, so what impact this would have had on my younger self is lost to alternative timeline.

Mojo One Thousand

I saw this on 1986 and what ever this ended up being it still has great music score from the legendary composer John Barry!!

Keith Brown

Oh I know, I guess I was referring to the fan base as a whole. I really think it was a case of name recognition more than anything as the other picks on that live weren't as well known and split the vote leaving Marvin the duck to cross the line ahead . I think especially once it became apparent that it was in the lead, some bad actors thought they would troll our poor Cassie and pushed it over the edge. The only possible upside is that perhaps Star Trek nemesis might be better than it normally would be after having to suffer through this

Canadianant

Cassie, you are exactly right. You have to have some bad ones to appreciate the good ones. There are classic movies made every year, and have been made every year they have made movies, but there are a lot of craptastic movies made every year as well. It was fun for me though, because some moments and lines from the movie were genuinely funny, and Cassie's expressions and face palm were hilarious. So I say, it was a great reaction! What was surreal to me was hearing my favorite James Bond music score writer's music during the movie, expecialy during the final scenes in the laser lab. No Bond finale ever seemed so hokey (well, MOONRAKER), but the music was fantastic.

Mike LL

Agreed. I suffered through 2 hours of this dreck in the movie theater and even the gorgeous Lea Thompson couldn’t elevate the movie. I can’t watch it again, not even for you Cassie

Darren Harrison

It’s pretty simple. Comic books were at the beginning of their resurgence when he made this, and he chose a niche/underground comic that appealed to just a subset of the ‘cool’ kids. But he didn’t have the ability to translate that appeal to a movie. I imagine he envisioned that he was making Rocket Raccoon of GOTG but only delivered something akin to the midnight show of the Country Bear Jamboree.

2-Can

Some of us may be childhood products of the 'USA Up All Night' B movie pipeline and assign those type of movies higher nostalgia value than normal. Factor that in...

Brian's Dog

Given That…I would like to recommend “The Joy Luck Club”; “The Man From Snowy River”; and “The 13th Warrior” PS. Carly would love Two of these.

Uncle Phoenix

Fright Night was 1985. I sent that one. Had my 🤞 but it unfortunately didn't make it. I agree though, anything else would have been better

Katie Jackson

It was in the end credits of Guardians Of The Galaxy

Katie Jackson

Bad timing too... you got Howard the Duck, and Star Trek Nemesis the same week. Two "misfits of film." In very different ways, but still...

Miguel

Cassie is SO tender for doing this for her little Kernels.

Uncle Phoenix

We didn't do this to her here on Patreon ( at least not as a group) but blame YouTube subs for thos one.

David Freese

Cassie, other than you, the only other people I would consider putting myself through the torture of watching this mess of a movie again would be my daughters. And thankfully, they haven’t gone there. My wife was with me the first time I saw it, and we’ve both never spoken of it again. But…it’s you, and I said when I first joined your Patreon that I’d do whatever I had to to support your channel. So…UGH!! Later tonight…I…will…watch it with you.

Dan M

Oh, I do remember voting for “My Fair Lady” recently. Seeing that list I am even more incredulous that Howard won. There are some great movies there, not the dreck that is Howard the Duck.

Darren Harrison

lol so there's always controversy... but controversy could be better than coffee... for some. I support a voting poll for movies. Also I like it when the "odd one" wins once in a while. For example I'd like for Ultraviolet (2004) to win sometime somewhere lol, what are its chances? There's some small movies like Housekeeping (1987) which, what, who would watch this? Doesn't matter that some viewer wrote it's "...haunting, poetic and deeply melancholic..." and personally I really liked it when I saw it. How about Paris, Texas (1984)... heck do I even remember what it was about?, no I do not. But one of my favorites, Bandits (1997)... a German language, rock musical, road movie... it's a "triple threat" but not in the way that would make it win in any poll, hahaha (I did win a raffle once and got a reactor channel to watch it and they loved it... I felt it was a risk but they seem to have genuinely loved it - there were two of them watching, even better! It doesn't matter that it will probably get zero views. Three of us watched it and we're happy.)

Mannygogou

Cassie: turns around to adjust pillows Me: Stay that way!

David Patterson

Howard is quacking great and I will die on that ducking hill

Witchfinder General

You mean a duck & an ape?

Witchfinder General

Part of experiencing film (which is what this channel is about) is sifting the gold from the sludge). In the 70’s, for every Kubrick film there was a Russ Meyer film. In the 80’s we got Amadeus and Hannah and Her Sisters, but we also got Howard the Duck and Buckaroo Banzai. Sometimes, like in the case of Banzai, a rewatch is a rewarding experience. And sometimes, as in the case of Howard, we get a new adult perspective on a childhood film. No matter what, I don’t see this reaction as a “waste of time.” Hers, or ours.

Brian Lowery

I knew you would watch it....I miss the FBI warnings at the beginning of movies

Chris Retzlaff

Why would anyone sign up for this movie? We'll most went on with a pretty great careers. Hey you want to be in a George Lucas produced movie...yup. Even the manager's thug went on to be the one digging for amber to get Dino DNA (Jurrasic Park) Lea Thompson....she is just the most.....beaut.....gorgeo....I can't even put in words. Even after 45 yrs she is still stunning and can light up a room

Chris Retzlaff

Howard... THE DUCK ! Wooo !!!

Witchfinder General

Oh, I would have voted for My Fair Lady (probably did) This thing called voting, I support it.

Mannygogou

I like this movie but agree that scheduling needs to be improved generally

Witchfinder General

I loved this as a kid 🤷

Witchfinder General

Howard The Duck makes me laugh just because of how ridiculously stupid and rubbish the whole thing is.

Pat Waters

Hahaha, this is a throwback 😊

Mannygogou

Unfortunately, many of the best movies were eliminated by dice rolls. Tora! Tora! Tora! would have been my top choice from those, especially since its timing would have aligned perfectly with the anniversary of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Even with the final four movies, I’m still baffled by this outcome. I suspect it came down to sheer name recognition. Anyway, I recall watching this movie on TV as a teen. I don’t remember much of the plot, but even then, I remember it struck me as an odd, weird movie and I’ve never felt compelled to rewatch it since. And honestly, even with a reaction, I'm not really now.

Gábor Árki

I remember the poll that led to this sad and painful reaction. So many good movies were discarded (by random pick) along the way, and then Howard the Duck took the lead on the final poll and won. Sigh... I want to forget this even more than the movie.

René Ferland

These were the ones randomly picked from the DVD list: 1. Brian's Song (1971) 2. Fright Night (?) 3. Over the Top (1987) 4. Howard the Duck (1986) 5. My Fair Lady (1964) 6. McLintock! (1963) 7. Tora Tora Tora (1970) 8. A River Runs Through It (1992) 9. Beaches (1988) 10. The Guardian (2006?) 11. Simon Birch (1998) 12. Come and See (1985) Cassie eliminated all but the following four with dice rolls, which then made it to the YT poll: Howard the Duck (1986) The Guardian (2006?) McLintock! (1963) Come and See (1985) And then Howard won by a large margin.

Gábor Árki

But is it worse than the Star Wars Holiday special?

John Sullivan

The 4 movies in the poll with approx results: Howard the Duck -- 40% The Guardian (2006) -- 25% McLintock! (1963) -- 25% Foreign -- 10% I can't remember the name of the foreign movie (a graphic movie), which I voted for because was by far the most highly rated.

Clay F

Congratulations on making it through the movie. I'm going to sit this one out. Seeing the title made me hear that song in my head.

David Kent

I’m so sorry, Stick Figure Studios. Never Again.

Ike

Cassie you have proven yourself as a trooper. You're better than I am I tried to suffer through it with you but fell asleep in the last half hour. I'm sorry we did this to you. Even a touch of romance in this didn't save it for you. The look of confusion and bewilderment on your face was something to behold anyway now we can put this horrible chapter behind us.

Canadianant

Sorry Cass, but this is a movie I refuse to watch! The last time I saw this, I was very young and with my father! What can I say, I was young and stupid, but over time I began to realize how weird this movie was! Don't get me wrong, Lea Thompson, Tim Robbins, Jeffery Jones are all great actors and I adore them, but this wasn't really their best movie! What boggles my mind is the fact that this movie is "technically" part of the Marvel Universe, not the MCU, just the Universe itself, like the comics and whatnot! Weird that someone thought it would be a good idea to have an alcoholic talking duck in Marvel comics lol! Funny thing though, I think it was in THOR: DARKWORLD (THOR 2) there was a post-credit scene showing Howard the Duck being kept by The Collector! Such a weird movie, I can't believe this won your poll during your recent Livestream, BRIAN'S SONG should've been the winner out of all the choices you had, you would've loved that movie, that I can promise! Anyway, those are just my two sense on this movie, from the description above, sounds like you didn't like this movie much, and hey that's okay by me lol! Regardless, love and support to you always and no matter what, and God bless your kind heart🥰😇🙏🤗😁😉👍✌🌹

Wesley White

You've got some committed trolls for followers. There's no doubt about that .

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

I guess it won because people like it

Dioskur

The anger is strong with this one

Dioskur

"a big waste of time" You mean like watching other people watch movies?

Dioskur

"You noted that it's like a kids movie, but not made for kids. You ask: "Who is it made for?" I don't know. " Its for kids. Its just not the movie parents want them to see :)

Dioskur

I watched that a couple of years ago. I sincerely hope it’s because it hasn’t aged well, because I was bored from start to finish.

Clarence Newman

Thank you, Mike, but your help in this instance is forthwith rejected!

Clarence Newman

As bad as this movie is, the orchestral theme is actually really good. The Thomas Dolby pop songs are serviceable, but the score is a stand out.

keoma songs

You noted that it's like a kids movie, but not made for kids. You ask: "Who is it made for?" I don't know. I was on your YouTube live when you did the poll. While the poll was active, I searched and saw that 58,000 users at IMDb gave Howard the Duck an average rating of 4.7 -- I was puzzled it won the poll. I was not that familiar with the Howard the Duck movie. This was a first watch for me. You didn't recognize Phil as Tim Robbins until later in the movie. You thought odd or interesting that Tim Robbins is in both Shawshank a "best movie" all time and Howard the Duck a "worst movie." You recognized the Back-to-the-Future mom right away. I didn't. They showed a lot of her skin -- a couple of times with ropes. The peak (or trough) was the movie posing her in panties on all 4 on the bed. Howard the Duck: "I have developed a greater appreciation for the female version of the human anatomy." I gave the movie a chance like I did Son in Law (which I ended up liking ok) but found little redeemable in this movie -- not funny to me. I like seeing 80's people/settings. You found the brothel (or whatever it was), and other scenes, as disturbing. "I'm a dead duck." "He must have ate the chili."

Clay F

I haven’t listened to the reaction, and likely never will, but I stand by my previous comment that “Howard the Duck” is a big waste of time - and that from someone who had a celebrity crush on Lea Thompson in the 1980s. I have to assume Lea, Tim Robbins and Jeffrey Jones were just in it for the paycheck. I really don’t understand how this could have won a poll. What were the other choices? Who suggested this movie for a reaction in the first place?

Darren Harrison

It just goes to show there's no accounting for taste, and there needs to be a better way of selecting movies for Cassie (and Carly) to watch. Seriously, Howard the freaking Duck?! Whomever voted for that movie needs to lose their voting ability for a few months, if not revoked completely. If the inner 8 year old wants to watch this - rent it yourself, don't subject the ladies to waste that amount of their lives to watch it - you ain't getting that time back. For those of us with a conscience, I apologize Cassie. You shouldn't have had to watch that. You would be better off watching the entire Jackass collection.

crazyivan

Between this and Son-in-law, Cassie is watching some really bad movies for our entertainment.

Marcos

I think Cassie was missing the primary ingredient to possibly enjoy this….Alcohol, and lots of it.

Brian McGovern

And you OWN it. In 4K as well. How did it get a release in 4K. Like polishing a turd. Good luck trying to palm it off to someone else.

Brian McGovern

Yeah, but the duck spoke good English.

Clay F

I think I would like "Freddie Got Fingered" better. In any case, both "Howard the Duck" and "Freddie Got Fingered" are candidates for a bad movie poll.

Clay F

As you likely know, George Lucas was the executive producer.

Clay F

If it even gets one.

Brian McGovern

Yep, not a guitar pick.

Clay F

(tangent) I was going to make a comment about how Cassie's reaction to this was pretty much my reaction to Citizen Kane, but I have fallen into the IMDB comment rabbit hole. If you want a giggle, check out the 1-star reviews for Citizen Kane.

Mike Lemon

I guess there is a reason there are so few videos of reactions for this. The most popular one is from JustSUMM and Emily’s reactions are probably more entertaining than the movie itself. “ DUCK DANGLERS?” This won’t get a YT edit. Not worth it, and I haven’t seen it before either.

Brian McGovern

I just think it was people on YT having nostalgia from watching the movie as a kid. But who knows. I was there during the YT live poll. I could believe it was winning and then won.

Clay F

Cassie agreed: "you got have some bad ones to appreciate the good ones."

Clay F

I just finished a rewatch of one of my favourite films of all time, a masterpiece of cinematic art. Now, I will watch Howard the Duck. I know its reputation, and am doing breathing exercises to ready myself, before I hit play. May the Gods of Cinema have mercy on my soul …

David Olden

Aw, rats! She didn't forget to hit the Record button for this one.

Dave

Exactly. Quite astute.

Stick Figure Studios

Before asking the question "Who is the movie made for?" -- Cassie noted that it was like a kids movie, but not made for kids. I thought that was concise insightfullness.

Clay F

The only logical motivation that I can possibly come up with is that they must hate her.

Stick Figure Studios

@Brian: She started out sort of hopeful going in, but it was kind of heartbreaking watching that hope gradually disappear as the movie went on. You could tell she knew she was in trouble when she checked to see how much of it was left and cried in horror, "ITS NOT EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH???"

Stick Figure Studios

Curious what you think of it now... if you can make it all the way through.

Stick Figure Studios

Haha I saw this movie when I was a conscript in the swedish air force (at our air base). Bad movie, but still nostalgia for me 😁😁

Björn Karlsson

One of my all time favourite movies, no joke! I also absolutely understand the hate it gets. It is a perfect movie for boys of a very specific age. I was 6 when it came out and maybe like 8 when I first saw it. It was perfect: -A totaly freaky main character (yeees its just insane but it is super unique!) -childish humor (Quak-Fu!) at age 8 the jokes land just right -'cool rock music' ... yeah... 80s style just good enough for an 8 year old -Lea is a 10/10 on a cuteness scale and for boy crushes -Jennings in his mutated form is super scary looking and shoots lazzas from his eyes! -a great chase scene with a lightweight plane! -a fantastic horror creature reveal in the last minute that looked awesome! remember this was the time of VHS tapes, the quality was on par with all the great ones of its time -Howard gets a huge beam cannon to blast the bad guy into a thousand pieces! Oh yeah! -a nice ending that has everyone having fun and enjoying each others company! Im riding a tsunami of nostalgia for this movie because I was 101% the target audience when it hit! I loved the little guy, I liked the goofy Phil, was scared by Jennings and in fear of the monster and celebrating the end! 10/10 for a 3/10 movie and I'm not ashamed :D

Dioskur

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Brian McGovern

How do you think Cassie felt having to watch it? I have not seen this and judging by her reaction, I don’t want to. I think Cassie would agree with your sentiment. I wonder if this will even make it to YouTube.

Brian McGovern

Probably wise.

Stick Figure Studios

Terrible. Awful. Atrocious. So, about on par with today’s Marvel movies.

Just Plain Bob

I liked it when I was a kid. But yeah it’s unwatchable now.

Farbod

So, I'll bet BATMAN '89 isn't looking quite so bad now, eh, Cassie? ;-) "Who is this movie for?" That is the exact same question everyone was asking in 1986. HOWARD THE DUCK alienated just about everyone (hence, the film's overwhelmingly negative reviews and lousy box office numbers). The lame, goofy slapstick humor was too juvenile for grown-ups but the crass sexual content was too "mature" for kids. The performances are uniformly awful with everyone pitched at 11 (to borrow a gag from a much better, funnier movie) and the story is paper thin. The film is really just a series of big, loud, shrill, violent, unfunny and ill-conceived set pieces (that just go on and on and on and on and on and on) strung together. I will admit that I liked it when I first saw it as a 10-year-old boy. I was at just the right age where all the special effects and property destruction held my attention and most of the adult jokes went over my head. However, I made the mistake of watching it again in my twenties and that's when I realized how truly, utterly and irredeemably terrible it is. It's not even "so bad it's good." It's just bad. This will have been my third time seeing it (more than any human being should have to) and I am done. Never again. I wouldn't have even suffered through it this time except my curiosity about your reaction got the better of me. Being able to share in your misery as you endured this cinematic disaster almost made the experience worthwhile... Almost. Anyway, congratulations on making it through, Cassie. You are a real trouper. Hopefully this is the worst it will get for you on this channel... although who knows what will happen the next time the YouTube community gets to pick the movie again. The mind reels.

Stick Figure Studios

@Stick (in my best Cindy Lou Hoo) Why? Why Stick? Why would they do this to her?

Art of Free Speech

It won a YouTube poll. No getting around it.

Jon Johns

I want to support Cassie as much as possible, but I mean, I'm only willing to go so far, and sitting through this absolute sin of a creation is just going too far. I'll watch the YT edit, but I'm not masochistic enough to sit through the whole thing.

Art of Free Speech

This won a YouTube poll.

Jon Johns

I don’t know what to say about Howard The Duck. The 80’s were crazy. I haven’t watched this reaction - I’m not sure I can. This is…well, it’s a movie. Not the weirdest thing to come out of the 80’s, but it’s probably on the list.

Walter

Mark, That’s Inter-species erotica 😂😂. It’s also the second one and you never see him do anything (thankfully). Tbh it would be interesting Cassie watching one of his films but I don’t think she will get his sense of humour. But I actually think she would love Jersey Girl and Red State would be a good one for October.

Dean Holt

Not even close. The first theatrical release, maybe, but there were at least 2 Captain America and 3 Spider-Man TV- movies before. Oh, and a Dr. Strange.

Mike Lemon

Makes me wonder how many of the people who voted for it have even seen it in the past 30 years.

Stick Figure Studios

I have now watched this movie 3 times: more than any human being should have to. This last one was it for me. Never again.

Stick Figure Studios

Don't worry, I can do that- https://archive.org/details/HowardTheDuck_1986 You're welcome.

Mike Lemon

The thing is, the reason Cassie didn't put that reaction on YT was because she knew BATMAN '89 was beloved and didn't want to make everyone mad. HOWARD is almost universally loathed, so that won't be a problem.

Stick Figure Studios

I don't like to see Cassie suffer, but sharing in her misery as she endured this film almost made this experience tolerable... Almost.

Stick Figure Studios

Didn't for me either. I liked it when I first saw it as a 9-year-old, but made the mistake of watching it again as an adult. Ugh.

Stick Figure Studios

We have the YT community to thank for this.

Stick Figure Studios

After a depressingly slow UberEats shift, this is the PERFECT cheer me up reaction for me to watch tonight. I've rewatched clips, but I haven't seen this movie again since I was a preteen in the early 90s.

YodatheHobbit

I liked this as a kid because it was weird and tried things I hadn't seen before, but I totally get why an adult wouldn't be into it and I expected this for Cassie, so I didn't vote for it. As to why I was even allowed to watch this as a kid, well... the 80's were a different time... But props to her for struggling through to appreciate the other selections coming up.

Dan

I rarely comment on reactions but with limited uploads this week, this is what was picked? What a total waste of time.

Simon Haynes

Yo this SUCKS. I know I’d seen it as a teenager… but wow… THIS IS A SLOG TO GET THROUGH.

djKENTO

Sorry Cassie, I will not be able to watch the full reaction with you. I tried to order the DVD off eBay but the seller mailed me back and said “No, I can’t do it to you. I’ve taken it off sale and burned it. Please get some therapy for trying to self-harm this way.” I will, however, sit with you for the YT edit. If you can do it, then so can I.

Clarence Newman

I wonder if this will turn out to be another Patreon exclusive due to her reaction to it.

Shawn Kildal

Imagine if something like "Gigli" or "Freddie Got Fingered" popped up. Cassie has seen Twilight, so it's not like she's never seen horrible cinema before.

Mark Vaderr

No, not really. It's been on TV, but I didn't really pay attention.

Ib-René Jørgensen

There's one positive to this. You appreciate good movies more after realising how low the bar can go.

Laura Thornley

Who on Earth thought it was a good idea for her to watch this movie? It's....so bad. Ouch.

Caomhan84

I guess I'm dusting off my copy of "Howard the Duck" and watching it at 2:00 AM 😀

Johnny Salinas

The howard the duck character was not created by Stan Lee. It was made by Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik. The screenplay for this movie was written by Willard Huyck (who also directed the movie) and Gloria Katz, who was one of the producers.

V M

The 1st Marvel movie 😀

Johnny Salinas

Carly joined in on that one, they didn't like it all and thought it was best not put the reaction on YouTube since they pretty much thrashed the movie.

Shawn Kildal

Wonder if most of us will even bother with even the YT edit for this one if that's the review lol. Think i'll save myself 2 hours and watch something half decent :D

Gray

She mentions that she thinks it was the first Marvel comic made into a movie in the outro.

V M

Same! I taped it off the satellite from a german channel so many moons ago. I didn't know anything about it...only saw a still picture in a magazine and I actually thought that it was a Donald Duck live action flick. I was just a kid then, but it wasn't Donald Duck... it was Howard... dubbed in german... But I loved it and loved the soundtrack as well...

Jens Kristensen

“I thought it was a guitar pick”….lol. It’s ok Cassie when I saw this I was 11 and I didn’t know what it was either…but i wondered why my Dad was laughing so loud.

Walter Crockett

Did for me. Sorry it didn't for you.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

It doesnt

V M

okay the hot tub place. In the 1980s there was a culture of hooking up at bath houses where you could get a private hot tub to hook up. You may remember the trashy TV show Blind Date, they would often end at one of them. This kind of establishment really took a hit during the 1980s aids epidemic. The entire joke of Howard working at one is pretty tacky.

djKENTO

It grows on you as you get older.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I haven't seen that reaction. I assume she did not like batman '89.

V M

At least he had protection...

Jens Kristensen

Outro Spoiler: "That was painful. That was painful…. I did not enjoy that. I kept looking at how long was left. It was, uh, lacking script for me…. It was like trying to be bad…. It was not even entertaining to me, and it was obnoxious…. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know… This was just ridiculous. I don’t let my kids say the ‘s-t-u-p-i-d’ word, so I’m not going to say it either. But, um, you guys. Ooh, ok, like I said, you got to have some bad ones to appreciate the good ones."

Clay F

Yes, as I said in another post, it was a missed opportunity to watch something good. Time is super precious.

V M

Ever see "Clerks"?

Mark Vaderr

Cassie's reaction was exactly what I thought it would be. Now that she's seen it, she can hopefully forget this cinematic abomination and watch some good movies! She's a trooper for watching it, but it was sad to see her sit through this horrible thing.

V M

Saw this in the theater with my girlfriend at the time, a woman who had a tremendous and quirky sense of humor... and neither of us thought it was any good. 😕 I doubt my opinion has changed in the intervening 38 years, but I'll try to watch it once again, if only to witness Cassie's reaction...

Phil Stubblefield

A reminder Cassie, Howard the Duck was a comic book character from Marvel in the early 1970's. He was not a creation of George Lucas.

Mark Vaderr

Unfortunately, blindly scrolling through the phone to pick out movies for a poll is asking for all kinds of trouble IMO. Especially during a livestream. If it's a lame movie with a cult following, it's going to win here. So frustrating. Wasting (to me anyway) a precious movie reaction slot on the calander on a movie that is widely, if not universally, known to be one of the worst movies of all time.

Shawn Kildal

A duck and a human almost having sex is pretty creepy.

Ib-René Jørgensen

Points for giving it a chance!

Cole Jennett

Will this get the Batman 89 treatment

Philip G.

I know people hate on this movie and I understand why, but I adore it. When it came out and i think I saw it 3 times at the dollar theater in town. My whole life, nobody has ever been as beautiful as i thought Lea Thompson was in this movie at 12 years old.

Godzilla Jones

Ok, you’ve done your duty. Give yourself a medal and forget about it forever!

James UK

Are you not saying anything because you want us to suffer too lol

Gray

Quite a few of us are baffled it was tops in a poll. 🥴🥴🥴 (I can’t watch this twice in one lifetime - even for Cassie, sorry lol)

Ike

Yeah.. this is one of those flicks that's starts not really funny...and makes a whiplash-inducing, hard right turn to awkward.. total awkward turtle. Glad you survived it. 😀

Michael Enos

I knew there was a reason I bought this movie on 4K blu-ray… and it’s finally here!
