Cassie’s Poll

Instead of a Cassie’s Popcorn Pick of the Month” I wanted to let you help me choose!

Comments

I've tried to watch "Shakespeare in Love" half a dozen times and I am always conked out by the midway point. I have renamed it "Shakespeare Asleep". People complain that "Ordinary People" won the Best Picture over "Ragin Bull", and that "Rocky" won over "Taxi Driver" or that "Dances With Wolves" won over "Goodfellas".... but "Shakespeare in Love" winning over "Saving Private Ryan" - that is the one I think there is no excuse for. "Shakespeare" is just so boring.

Cliff Endicott

I wouldn't say that. Cassie has had a lot of good polls in the past. Just have to take whatever comes our way. She'll have more fun polls in the future.

Mark Vaderr

I saw the movie. I also read the novel it was based on. The movie is good. The book is better. Of all the movies in this poll, The 100 Foot Journey and Shakespeare in Love are the best (however, most people wouldn't get all the references in SiL.) There weren't any real losers on this list, though.

D. T. Nelson

Anyone who didn't vote for Simon Birch probably hasn't ever seen it. It defines a tender and frunny coming of age classic.

Pete Miller

I don’t think it was a travesty at all. Both were deserving

Cole Jennett

I think I think I’ve already said this But it bears, repeating, give me a break with “four weddings, and a funeral” That’s British movies go it’s mildly entertaining. You gotta go with Clooney and Pfeiffer and “one fine day” Good music funny good dialogue and the pacing is good

(Nolo)finwe

Agreed! I think most people just haven't seen it and so won't recommend it, but she would love it.

Maisie

Simon Birch is one of the sweetest, most touching and tender movies ever. Massively underrated. Cassie would love Simon Birch.

Pete Miller

Four Wedins and a funeral is an amazing movie. That's what you might find if you let go of the mass produced Hollywood booring same kind of film they release over and over again. It is about time someone find the courage to some european films.

Mattias Ljungberg

That is a travesty and crazy that Saving Private Ryan didn't win Best Picture Oscar.

Clay F

Don't know if I would consider them required viewing or anything, but they're all pretty charming. Shakespeare in Love won a few Oscars including Best Picture.

Chris Thom

Great songs provided by Thomas Dolby and Lea thompson was fantastic

LDC7080

I have seen most of these. I think you would like Hope Floats the best. I am very anti- Shakespeare in Love. It is a decent movie but it won the Oscar for best picture over Saving Private Ryan because of Hollywood politics. For that reason alone is enough to move it to the bottom of the list in my opinion.

T.L.A

I haven't seen any of these. In the same genre, I think both Cassie and Carly would like "Milk Money" (1994) Ed Harris, Melanie Griffith

JAKH

Of these I've only actually seen Shakespeare in Love and Four Weddings. I didn't care for Shakespeare in Love, but Four Weddings was pretty enjoyable (although I didn't think much of Andie MacDowell's character OR her performance) and I guess it's significant in that it launched the careers of both Hugh Grant and Richard Curtis and ushered in a wave of British rom-coms.

Ian Tonge

Simon birch is massively underrated

Primal panda

The soundtrack was AWESOME!

Shawn Kildal

I voted for One Fine Day (which is usually the kiss of death btw)

Shawn Kildal

And my now meaningless vote goes to One Fine Day, as Larry had the most convincing argument, if anyone bothers to read this at this point.

Richard Maurer

I only saw One Fine Day,

RJ MacReady

Goldmember

V M

"The others" wasn't too bad, and definitely better than the movies on Cassie's poll

V M

Bits and pieces of a couple for me, otherwise the same.

Richard Maurer

I've seen exactly zero of these.

bgb1975

Hmmmm🤔……..I do see where you are coming from Stick and from your perspective I guess that kinda makes sense. A lot of Brits both in the cast and crew. I guess the only way I can explain is: If I was to ask my wife which has a more British feel to it, between the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice and the 2005 movie. Lucy would explain, apart from the BBC version being far superior in every way! it just feels more homely/British and Lucy loves anything period drama and adores Jane Austin. So I guess what I’m trying to explain (badly!) is it’s more about the feeling or tone a movie or tv series gives you than the technical aspects of production. So I guess i am both agreeing with you and not agreeing! But I am abit bonkers! 🤪😂 Look, if I’m honest I don’t know much about these kinda movies and if you want a Brit movie from that time (90’s early 2000) that I would really want to watch: Shallow Grave Trainspotting. (however not for Cassie!) Shopping. Lock stock two smoking barrels. Touching the Void

Mark White

If the 4 weddings and the funeral don’t all occur at the same venue, simultaneously, I will be very disappointed.

Richard Maurer

It’s one for the ages, Mike.

Richard Maurer

Did we???? Muzzle toff!!

Clarence Newman

I think they would.

Rick Williams

Yes! Nine Months is so good and has Robin Williams in it too. I've been campaigning for that one for awhile

Katie Jackson

Auto correct indeed. The word is hen

mikethemotormouth

Glad to see someone campaigning for the romance of Howard and Lea Thompson

mikethemotormouth

VM must have been talking about The Other Guys

mikethemotormouth

Really think she should just choose one that piques her interest. I'd be fine with it if half her movies were chosen that way.

Chris Thom

Woah that's a callback from left field. Only thing I've ever heard about that was that it was Landis' first movie before Animal House.

Chris Thom

Perfect!

Terry Yelmene

Well, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE does have a British director (John Madden) and a British co-screenwriter (Tom Stoppard) as well as a huge British cast (yes, Paltrow is American but then so is Andie MacDowell). Both films have British cinematographers, editors and composers. So, I feel like SIL is still pretty British. Maybe not *as* British as FWAAF, big the difference still seems to me (as an American) marginal.

Stick Figure Studios

I'm hoping Carly joins for the reaction, Cassie will need her (haha).

Joe

SUGARLAND EXPRESS

Stick Figure Studios

My sister and I always discuss how his appearance doesn’t fit the time period but he really is good. Makes me laugh every time. “…are you going to say it like that?”

China Andronicus

Oh I completely agree about Paltrow, especially when I found out she nicked the script from Winona Ryder asking if she could read it and then booked an audition. They were best friends and haven’t spoken in years because of it. But come on. We could have had Winona Ryder? I can definitely see her earning an Oscar for that role.

China Andronicus

What I can't figure out is how you Brits had conquered the Roman Empire before you even became a country....

Merek

Tender November is making me retain water....but that to shall pass. 😆 I'm always here just for Cassie's reactions, not so much for the movies, as I've already seen almost all of them. Cassie has a good mix on the channel.

Joe

Yes, but she decided not to, for some reason.

Richard Maurer

“HOWARD the DUCK will be bigger than Madonna”. George Lucas was such a visionary back then.

Richard Maurer

They will indeed keep on coming, just like the ninjas in Kentucky Fried Movie.

Clarence Newman

@Chris Thom - that’s a compelling argument, I’d vote for the film you’re referring to, if I knew what it was.

Richard Maurer

Cassie please watch Officer and a Gentleman so we don’t have to read any more of Clarence’s posts about it.

Richard Maurer

Doesn't Cassie usually just choose her PPOM?

Zane From Canada

Very commendable of you to balance your Cage Rage with some symbols of love and affection 😂

Dan M

If you don’t blink you can see me running away from the big explosion on the highway late in the film (which was actually shot in Marin County, not Cleveland.) I was also in the club scene with Cherry Bomb but I didn’t make it on film. At one point I passed by George Lucas as he was telling the little person who played Howard “this duck’s going to be bigger than Madonna.”

jdj830

I've heard how uncomfortable the Grinch make-up was for Jim Carrey, Dan, so I think I'll pass. Instead, after a month of intense campaigning, I'm gonna go with some good, old-fashioned Nicolas Cage: "I'm a little tired, I'm a little WIRED....and I think I deserve a LITTLE APPRECIATION!" Plus a few flower emoticons for good measure. 🌹🌹🌹 Covering all bases here. She's a sensitive soul, after all.

Clarence Newman

I’ve suggested Always a couple of times to Cassie. A classic so well suited for Tender November.

Dan M

😂 Richard, it makes sense that you’d want Cassie to watch HTD…it really is a terrifyingly bad horror show of a movie.

Dan M

Gwyneth is also a pretty good singer. Check out the duet version of Smokey Robinson’s Cruisin’ she did with Huey Lewis.

Dan M

If Clarence doesn’t get a watch of An Officer and a Gentleman soon, he will be starring in the next version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Dan M

I think u an Carly would love one fine day

Anthony Campbell

Relax, it’s just a funny, personal observation

JPDotCom23

It's such a good film! Funny, romantic, and just plain entertaining. Geoffry Rush is so good in it. His character is so funny! And Ben Affleck's small part is also a very good one. It's one I enjoy going back to and watching now and again.

Phillip Bates

I love "One Fine Day". It's a really good RomCom and with George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer starring, it doesn't disappoint.

Phillip Bates

Hugh Grant's dancing in it (and general presence) officially makes it a rom com.

Chris Thom

Matt Stone of SouthPark fame attended the Oscars high on LSD while wearing Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar dress from the previous year. Fun fact. There's footage of it and they do indeed look super high.

Chris Thom

I think Cassie referenced About Time as her all time favorite movie once. Or I think she did. Not totally sure, but it was definitely complimentary. The poster is on her wall.

Chris Thom

Probably true. But she did just finish filming a movie with Timothy Chalamet supposedly.

Chris Thom

Hope Floats has actually got a chance, Eve. Cassie has a history of hooking in the 3rd place movie if she wants to watch it enough.

Clarence Newman

See that, Cassie? We all want it.

Clarence Newman

Thank you so much, I appreciate it. Check it out though if you get a chance. It’s such a good film!

Callie Stephen

It’s my choice of them all.

Callie Stephen

Oh Wow! The Champ! I love that film and haven’t seen it in years! Always need a box of tissues for that one.

Callie Stephen

There are only 2 rom-coms there, but aside from that, guys aren't allowed to like romance?

Mike Lemon

I'm with LDC, it's all anachronistic. Except Austin Powers - that's virtually a documentary.

Clarence Newman

please watch Hope Floats with Carly 😫😫

Eve

Cassie. Just need to sum up here. I take it, by their glaring omission from the poll (literally HUNDREDS have commented on it), that An Officer and a Gentleman, The Great Race and The Champ are all on the schedule anyway?? 😁

Clarence Newman

Security!

Clarence Newman

I fart in your general direction!

Richard Maurer

Surrrre you don’t. You’re not fooling anyone. We all know the British are exactly like how they’re portrayed in the movies.

Richard Maurer

I always find this interesting, guys - the sheer diversity of people's opinions when it comes to movies and the choices Cassie makes. I fully accept the ones on this poll (and lately, by the sound of it) are not your thing, but just for balance, I think her batting average is pretty good. Here's my current breakdown: Absolute favourites - 109 Very good (I could easily watch several times) - 84 Good (would enjoy if I watched again) - 136 Take or leave (fell flat on me) - 123 Absolute duds (no desire to watch again) - 74 That's 526 reactions total (I've left out some rewatches and special stuff), which means that 63% have been good for me, 24% at the level you are with this poll, and only 15% pure duds. I'm not sure what that means to anyone else, but if it proves anything at all, it's probably the fact that it's important we're all here with our varying opinions. It would be a pretty boring channel if she only watched one type of movie. EDIT: I realise my percentages come out to 102% up there. I have tried to fix it, but my brain said 'Nope'. I choose to believe that this means Cassie gives me more than I need.

Clarence Newman

I wish for Simon birch to win but I guess I’m voting for Shakespeare in love

Nicole

Well, it is Cassie’s poll after all. These are the kind of movies she likes, which just happens to leave a lot of us out.

Richard Maurer

I voted for it.. they are all good movies, only one of which I won't watch for obvious reasons.

Andrew Rose

Don’t forget his film debut, Revenge of the Creature, sequel to Creature From the Black Lagoon, which you’d need to watch first for continuities sake.

Richard Maurer

I've never heard of it. I will vote for it, just for you Callie.

V M

Paltrow prefers being a very rich entrepreneur.

V M

What do you mean shhh? Cassie needs to be reminded to watch HOWARD the DUCK! Otherwise she might forget to watch HOWARD the DUCK! We don’t want to miss the looks of confusion, disgust, and outright horror we’ll get when she watches HOWARD the DUCK, do we?

Richard Maurer

Richard. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries.

Clarence Newman

Every Which Way But Loose (1978)

Clarence Newman

She's already seen "The Others".

Clarence Newman

I'm told that one's already in the bag, Carol. A reliable source stated that Cassie confirmed it was "coming very soon". The next "Upcoming" is due, so unless I'm being gaslighted, it should be on there.

Clarence Newman

That's a good one, but please not the ridiculous Director's Cut.

Clarence Newman

If we are looking for young Eastwood, also check out ‘Where Eagles Dare’

Mark White

Looks like 4 weddings by a landslide. As a Brit let me assure you we don’t all talk or act like this

LDC7080

😂 true sticky! But, if I was to nit pick! Shakespeare in love is an American production, American writer and has that feel of a Hollywood movie. (Not that’s a bad thing) where as Four weddings is a British production, had a legendary British writer and just had that feel to it of being a typical Brit movie. However Shakesphere in love does have a scene at a beach, which was shot just up the road from where I live! So maybe I should vote for that!😆 Anywho, they are both very good movies.

Mark White

The Hundred-Foot Journey is such a brilliant, heartwarming movie. I'm so surprised its dead last with hardly any votes.

Gábor Árki

Shhhh

Philip G.

OMG I LOVE that adaptation of Titus, it's incredible. And I thoroughly enjoyed that Much Ado as well

Mog vGB

It’s a good one. We need a Shakespeare adaptation poll. My suggestions: Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet Kenneth Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing Joel Coen’s Macbeth Julie Taymor’s Titus Franco Zeffirelli’s Hamlet

Jacob King

She may react to the runner up

Clay F

I've discovered I enjoy watching Cassie more when she is enjoying the movie, so her enjoying a movie outweighs whether or not I personally enjoy the movie. Which, to be clear, I do.

Mog vGB

swing and a miss! Cassie's batting average is sadly low :(

V M

You make enjoying Shakespeare in love sound like a good thing

V M

blocking you, have a nice day!

diego kontarovsky

Oh no way. Didn't know that. I always think of her from Parenthood. Bet Cassie would as well. One of her all time favorite TV shows.

Chris Thom

shakespeare in love is definitely not one of the greatest movies ever made :/

V M

That might be the last Spielberg I have left to see. That and his first one with Goldie Hawn I think? Sugar Magnolias?

Chris Thom

Paltrow is a legitimately good actress, I think. Or she was. Proof (2005) with her, Anthony Hopkins, and J Gyllenhaal is pretty great.

Chris Thom

I disagree too. None of these movies are good:P

V M

I genuinely think you will enjoy Shakespeare in love SO much!

Mog vGB

I hear you on this. I didn't vote for anything. I'm just waiting for Planet of the Apes to start being watched. Probably in January.

Mark Vaderr

I don't dislike Shakespeare In Love, it is a good movie. I just don't think it deserved as many awards as it got. Gwyneth Paltrow? Please. She wasn't THAT good. I get what you mean about Saving Private Ryan, but I think it's better than Shakespeare. I also thought that Life is Beautiful was a superior film.

Mark Vaderr

And they can thank all of those Oscars to Harvey Weinstein.

Mark Vaderr

Overrated. It was actually nominated for best picture. How?

Mark Vaderr

ZZZZzzzzz. Oh well, not every poll is a home run.

Mark Vaderr

It’s been years since I’ve seen Four Weddings, which I voted for. I vaguely remember Shakespeare in Love. I was a Paltrow fan back then. A beauty. I like the multiple Oscars and the good reviews the movie gets. The movie I remember the most is Hope Floats and I seem to remember liking Hope Floats okay -- I like the leads. I have not seen Simon Birch or 100 Foot Journey. I really don't remember One Fine Day (1996). Poll candidates ranked by IMDb average rating given by users: IMDb 7.3, Metacritic 55%, RT 69% (Audience 81%) – 100 Foot Journey IMDb 7.1, Metacritic 87%, RT 92% (Audience 80%) -- Shakespeare IMDb 7.1, Metacritic 81%, RT 92% (Audience 74%) – 4 Weddings IMDb 6.8, Metacritic 39%, RT 44% (Audience 77%) – Simon Birch IMDb 6.5, Metacritic 56%, RT 53% (Audience 65%) – One Fine Day IMDb 6.0, Metacritic 43%, RT 27% (Audience 72%) – Hope Floats

Clay F

Clay F

Saw Four Weddings in the theater when it was new. We own it on BluRay. My wife's played it at least 10 times at home. I'd rather work in the crawl space for 2 hours with the spiders than see it again.

Bert Towle

I knew a hundred foot journey would be last. It's a really good movie

Vlad D

I personally don’t disagree with it winning as much as everyone else does, because I was never as impressed with SPR as most of the masses are. I felt that most of its quality was loaded in the very dynamic opening and after that it was just fair, nothing special. I like a good war movie but this one just didn’t do it for me. I’m not obsessed with SiL by any means but I do think it’s a quality film and I watch it more than I do SPR.

China Andronicus

Absolute Power was great.

Uncle Phoenix

@Shawn - while you’re technically right I’d rather see a reaction to Howard - it will be amusing at least.

Richard Maurer

It’s been years since I’ve seen Four Weddings. The movie I remember the most is Hope Floats and I seem to remember liking Hope Floats okay -- I like the leads. Clay F

I think it's hilarious you have guys choosing these rom-coms for you

JPDotCom23

Every time an obscure movie lands on a poll it becomes somewhat less obscure. Someone on here is bound to watch it for the first time. Lucky them

Cole Jennett

Totally forgot about this. A teacher showed it to us in college. I remember being surprised to see Lisa Jakub in it.

Larry Darrell

I'll give it a shot. They are all better than Howard the Duck.

Shawn Kildal

Definitely check out About Time (2013).

Larry Darrell

I'm still waiting for the Jeff Bridges movie The Contender from almost 2 years ago. Someday it will happen.

Shawn Kildal

I voted for the Hugh Grant movie. Sense and Sensibility.

Shawn Kildal

It's so good but little known. No chance it will ever win a pole

Stephen Knueppel

😂

Uncle Phoenix

I posted a reminder for Cassie to watch Howard the Duck. You can all thank me now.

Richard Maurer

I actually hate "Love Actually."

Stick Figure Studios

Despite it not deserving best picture (and the shady tactics that Harvey Weinstein used to secure it that award), It is a good movie and I've always liked it.

Stick Figure Studios

Cassie, don’t forget to watch Howard the Duck - so many here are really looking forward to it.

Richard Maurer

That's alright, everyone has their own opinions 👍

Dylan Harris

Despite it not deserving best picture that year (and the shady tactics that Harvey Weinstein used to secure that award), It is a good movie and I've always liked it.

Stick Figure Studios

I also disagree

Stick Figure Studios

I only saw FOUR WEDDINGS for the first time relatively recently and I was not terribly impressed. I'll probably skip that reaction.

Stick Figure Studios

"Being a Brit, I've got to go with Four Weddings." Is the movie about Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth not British enough?

Stick Figure Studios

JOSEY WALES Is on her radar at least

Stick Figure Studios

I like NOTTING HILL and the first BRIDGET JONES. Haven't seen ABOUT TIME or YESTERDAY. Absolutely loathe LOVE ACTUALLY and MAMMA MIA (never bothered with the sequel). FOUR WEDDINGS is... okay I guess. I only saw it for the first time relatively recently and was not terribly impressed.

Stick Figure Studios

Notting Hill and About Time are two of my All-Time favorites. About Time being one of my Top films of the past 20 years. I loved Yesterday, I liked parts of Love, Actually, I’m so-so on Bridget Jones, and I hated the Mamma Mia sequel. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen Four Weddings and from what I can remember, I feel like it was just so-so. But I ain’t sure. It definitely doesn’t rank very high in my memory. Everything I know about the movie says it should be higher, but I’m gonna have to give it an honest watch again to know for sure where it ranks among Richard Curtis’ other films.

Larry Darrell

Despite being one of his lesser movies, I do have a lot of affection for ALWAYS and Cassie would love it.

Stick Figure Studios

I also read the book first and was greatly disappointed in the film. Simon Birch is a no for me too.

Callie Stephen

I love ‘Always’! Such a beautiful film and it had a special appearance by my all-time favourite Audrey Hepburn. ❤️

Callie Stephen

It’s not going to win but ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ is a brilliant movie. It’s one of my all-time favourite feel-good films and stars the incomparable Helen Mirren. I urge you to watch it regardless of where it lands on the poll.

Callie Stephen

There was some romance in 1941 (1979)… among other insanities. (-: Good Flick ;-) I always have to mention also, that Always (1989) is a remake of A Guy Named Joe (1943), starring Spencer Tracy, Irene Dunne and Van Johnson. I’m sure Cassie would love both, and I’m sure if it was put to a poll, Always (1989) would win, and that’d be OK. Both are Great.

Larry Darrell

It’s always tough watching a movie adaptation of a book you love. I saw the movie first and realized it was based on John Irving’s book. Love John Irving. But glad I saw the movie first or I might feel similarly.

Cole Jennett

Yeah, there’s always either a Ringer, that you know is going to win, before you see any results, or you just wait 4 - 6 hours, and whatever the results are, they are most likely going to stay that way, unless there is a close battle, in which it will stay close for the entire poll duration. That ain’t happening here. It’s definitely Four Weddings and the poll has only been up for 4 hours. I’ve suggested in the past, eliminating the bottom 2 - 3, depending how many total are in the poll, after the first day, and then reposting the poll. Then repeat again after the 2nd day, cutting the original poll in half, and forcing people to vote for a different film. This could make the polls be more competitive and might give a different result, that is closer to a majority. But that wouldn’t change anything in this poll. Best case, If you added the percentage of Hope, Simon and 100 Foot to One Fine Day, it would only be 31%, for second. Most likely it would be creating a more close battle between Shakespeare and Four Weddings. This is clearly a Ringer scenario.

Larry Darrell

If you're looking for something romantic, how 'bout considering Steven Spielberg's "Always" (1989), starring Holly Hunter, Richard Dreyfuss, and John Goodman ? As far as I know, it's Spielberg's only film romance -- and it's a real gem.

BriGuy

give me a break with Four Weddings and a Funeral . watch "One Fine Day" Clooneys a jerk these days but that movie is right up your Alley Cassie and it has great music as well

(Nolo)finwe

It is my choice too, but as soon as I saw Four weddings and a funeral, I knew the latter would win. Actually, in many polls, I could see the winner right away, blasting by the same token, the chances of any other movie to even compete. :-)

René Ferland

I really dislike Simon Birch. But I read and loved the book, and the movie is a very poor representation of the book. Many times, I can separate my feelings about a movie and its source material, but sometimes I can’t. This is one of those.

Walter

@Terry - while I meant it to be funny there really was a 70’s porn movie called Dracula Sucks.

Richard Maurer

I wanted to like Four weddings and a funeral but ... quit watching before the end. I am willing to try again with Cassie. :-)

René Ferland

I respectfully disagree.

René Ferland

Sorry Clay, but this movie is anathema because of poor Noni. :-P :-)

Happy Hanukkah

How about (1979 The Warriors)?

Tray-T

Also Outlaw Josey Wells. (Great Clint Eastwood Western)

Tray-T

Not going ro be close

David

4 weddings is a great film. Bring some kleenex.

james sweeney

I like a few of these. SIMON BIRCH and ONE FINE DAY aren't so bad. SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (which I voted for) is a Best Picture winner. The rest? Ehhhh... *shrugs* Whatever. Looks like it's going to be FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL (which I'll probably skip).

Stick Figure Studios

I voted for "An Officer and a Gentleman."

Carol_White

ROFLOL Okay Richard! I like you when you're not too serious. Yeah LOL!

Terry Yelmene

I can't choose any of these. I keep looking for the "Other" option

V M

Shame that you did not incule "I am Sam" which would fit into this list

JarHead0351

Alright, I’m still hoping for some more support for One Fine Day (1996), but… Since it is pretty much a definite at this point, Four Weddings and a Funeral is going to win, I don’t mind sharing this now. 3 Days ago at the 15th Governors Awards in L.A., Hugh Grant honored Richard Curtis. Y’all gotta watch this… https://youtu.be/gugpWvACiiw?si=wn2bBS9J2C453rXW Perfect timing to watch this film by the way. This week, when Cassie watches Four Weddings and a Funeral, it will certainly be One Fine Day ;-)

Larry Darrell

Lol I don't think I've seen any of those movies. So I'll enjoy whichever one you end up going with.

Ben Schwartz

Cassie you need checkout a voung sexy CLINT EASTWOO IN DIRTY HARRY REALLY GREAT MOVIE

harvard

I’m not making it up. If anyone wants to check, during the reaction to “For Love of the Game”, Cassie told Carly that we would rewatch “Remember The Titans” during a Live Event.

Uncle Phoenix

Clay. I'm choosing to believe she's Popcorn Picked The Great Race.

Clarence Newman

She forgot to list "American Ninja 3: Bloodhunt"

Scott Curry

Oh yeah, forgot to mention… Does the fact that Funboy from The Crow (1994)… Michael Massee has a part in One Fine Day (1996), do anything for ya? R.I.P. Michael Massee

Larry Darrell

I’m pretty sure Dracula Sucks is the title of a 70’s porn movie.

Richard Maurer

After Se7en it was hard for me to watch anything with her.

JohnnyUtah

That’s kind of what I was thinking.

Clay F

She has seen both before. You can check at her request site (link above). By the way, she has mentioned Love Actually multiple times.

Clay F

Stood out to me initially as I always couldn’t help paying attention to Paltrow movies because of my crush (she was a beauty to me).

Clay F

The Duck will not go quietly into the night. 😆

Joe

I feel like I need to go chop a cord of wood and then wrestle an angry bear after looking at this list... That being said, Shakespeare is my vote:P

Lucien

If it was 90s I was all about the action from the 80s but now that you mention it, it sounds familiar.

JohnnyUtah

Shakespeare in Love (1998) is a big well-known movie. As commented below, Shakespeare in Love (1998) won 7 Oscars including best picture, best actress (Paltrow), and best supporting actress (Dench). 4 Weddings is good.

Clay F

Well I got to be honest, I’ve only seen a couple of these movies, shakepheare and four weddings and they are both good movies. Cassie will enjoy both. But being a Brit, I’ve got to go with Four weddings. I guess it’s kind of a classic now! 30 years old! 😮

Mark White

Same smoke & mirrors with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1978). Cassie barks out a promise to watch it...instead it ends up on a poll and gets buried with no chance. Argh!!!!!

Joe

Shhh on Howard the Duck. Do you mean "rewatch" of Remember the Titans?

Clay F

That's happened multiple times with other movies. I notice The Great Race didn't make the poll.

Clay F

Glad to see that 4 Weddings is winning. Best movie in the poll. Shakespeare in Love (1998) is also good. Hope Floats (1998) is a sentimental movie, but ... I wanted to like One Fine Day (1996), but ... Would like to see a Noms of Oscars Past poll.

Clay F

4 weddings is the only film I recognize 😅

JohnnyUtah

I'm with you on that suggestion, Don. I know Cassie's seen Love Actually, but I'd love to do a re-watch with her at Christmas. That one AND The Holiday.

Clarence Newman

4 weddings and a funeral only decent movie on this poll IMO

Dylan Harris

Christopher Lee rules as Dracula in that.

djKENTO

Yes the year Saving Private Ryan was robbed.

djKENTO

Definitely a hidden gem from his career

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I figured it would be last. 100 foot journey is really good by the way.

Michael Lynch

Yeah because every subscriber is like 80 years old and nothing post 2010 ever wins. This poll is for a Cassie pick and she already said she wants to watch The Peanut Butter Falcon more than most. Hence why it’s a bummer she’s leaving her popcorn pick up to a poll instead of just watching it herself. It’s so much better than all of these and way more personal to Cassie herself.

shaneth138

She does have a very infamous delivery of a certain line at the end of Four Weddings...

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Adore this film, and it’s probably the best book to film adaptation I’ve ever seen.

China Andronicus

SiL had a fantastic script. People often overlook that because they don’t think a romance should have beaten a war drama. But Tom Stoppard is a fantastic writer and the ensemble was amazing.

China Andronicus

I suspect its performance on here will lead to that exact thing happening one month.

Cole Jennett

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) is a special exception, if not Blackadder, I would say it is the best thing Richard Curtis ever wrote

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Thank you. It doesn’t deserve the hate people throw its way. Amazing screenplay by genius Tom Stoppard and a great cast, though I’m not huge on Paltrow and don’t think she should have won that year.

China Andronicus

Shakespeare in Love. It doesn’t deserve the trash talk it gets. Tom Stoppard wrote a brilliant script and the cast is amazing, though I was extremely disappointed to recently find out we could have had Winona Ryder in the lead. You should definitely watch it.

China Andronicus

The film that George Clooney finished filming prior to One Fine Day was From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). So, minus the time spent on the ER set, Remember when watching One Fine Day, the last time George Clooney was on a major motion picture set, he was killing Vampires with Tom Savini and Fred Williamson. And how can you not want to watch Michelle Pfeiffer… in anything. ;-)

Larry Darrell

🤣🤙🏼

Uncle Phoenix

To be fair, Edmund, my list (which is legendary) has only 2 of these on it (though Shakespeare In Love is one of them). You've got to remember, this is Cassie's personal list, therefore it probably contains dire rom-coms only 4 people have seen (two of which are Cassie and Carly).

Clarence Newman

Sorry Phoenix, I posted a reply on your post instead of Edmund's, so I've deleted it. Please don't mention Howard the Duck again. She might've forgotten about it.

Clarence Newman

See, this right here is why I hate the over-reliance on polls. You have been saying for at least three years you really want to see Shakespeare in Love, just watch it already. You don't need our permission.

Mike Lemon

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

James UK

You can’t fool me, Clarence, I know every film that Chris Lee played Dracula in.

Richard Maurer

Because Dracula sucks, Richard. And you can't even be mad, because that is a fundamentally accurate statement!

Clarence Newman

OK, what's going on here, Cassandra? How come Four Weddings is having to negotiate a poll when you announced it as being on the schedule for September (Upcoming, Sep 3), did not watch it, then announced it as being on the November schedule once somebody rumbled you on a live event a few weeks ago? Did Superman kiss you recently and erase parts of your memory containing promises you've made to your undying flock? I am beside myself that you consider this kosher protocol. If Four Weddings wasn't winning in a landslide, I would be channelling my inner Dude right now. ("Well.....like.....that's your opinion, maaaaan.") But it is winning, so.....waheeeeeeeeey!

Clarence Newman

Ok. Honestly I am not upset that we probably won’t see Howard The Duck; But I am sad that we never got a LIVE watch of Remember The Titans.

Uncle Phoenix

Buck up Richard... only 315 days until October 1, 2025 (when I have to check out of PiB again)

Terry Yelmene

Something not as widely known would never win a poll. Once I saw Four Weddings was on the poll I knew it would win, and was pretty confident Shakespeare would be second. A little surprised Hope Floats is ahead of One Fine Day but not sad about it

Cole Jennett

There are some sword fights in Shakespeare in Love😂

Cole Jennett

I don’t understand why so many comments say none of these films made my “list.” Shakespeare in Love won 7 Academy Awards, including best picture, best actress (Paltrow), best supporting actress (Dench) and best screenplay.

Edmund Dantes

Had a hard time deciding. But would be nice to have another big Oscar winner on the channel. Feels like it's been a while.

Chris Thom

Kind of a fun fact, but Mae Whitman, who was the President’s (Bill Pullman’s) daughter in Independence Day, is also the daughter in both One Fine Day and Hope Floats.

Cole Jennett

You haven't seen Four Weddings and a Funeral, have you? That's the one where they lull you in to a false sense of security with four happy weddings, then have a funeral where Christopher Lee pops out of the casket as Dracula and starts drinking Andie MacDowell's claret. Don't deprive yourself, my friend.

Clarence Newman

I really liked the adaptation of “The Cider House Rules”, though. But I agree, both books are far superior.

Phillip Bates

Every one of these are excellent choices... (Cassie should see them all)... but I'm absolutely delighted 4Weddings has taken the lead! It's a 'perfect' Cassie movie!

Terry Yelmene

Why isn’t Horror of Dracula in this poll? Such a tender, loving film!

Richard Maurer

I love a good rom com but I must say none of these would make my list. I'm not saying any are bad exactly just there are SO many that are so much better.

James Moy

I voted for “Four Weddings and a Funeral”..it’s been years since I last saw it, but I remember enjoying it.

Darren Harrison

Well it should be closer cause I even seen 4 Weddings more than once so we could give Cassie something not as wide known but heck these aren't really my bag I had to ask my mom to have an opinion

David Freese

As I recall it was a reasonably good movie but I didn't like the ending.

James Moy

Shirley, I think if Saving Private Ryan had won the Oscar that Shakespeare in Love would be making a better race of this.

Cole Jennett

I can’t fall asleep with you guys snoring like that!

Richard Maurer

One Fine Day would be a great movie for Cassie to watch. I’ve just wanted her to watch Four Weddings and a Funeral for years so One Fine Day has to wait a bit longer. At least it’s on her radar.

James UK

I don’t care about any of these films. If someone can make me care about one I’ll vote for it.

Richard Maurer

Four Weddings hands up. And a Funeral hands down… and folded ;-)

Larry Darrell

I don't know anything about Simon Birch or 100 Foot Journey. My vote is in, for One Fine Day, although I'd be OK with Hope Floats, which I've seen, or Four Weddings, which I haven't. I hope it isn't Shakespeare which I believe is one of the most undeserved Best Picture winners of all time.

Jeff

A really tough book to adapt as it covers many years in the book. Coincidentally pretty similar to what they did with The Cider House Rules by John Irving

Cole Jennett

I watched it a few months back and couldn’t help thinking about how much Cassie would relate to it.

Cole Jennett

I'm at my moms house today and I asked if she had a choice and watched one today it would be Simon Birch. I think slowly but surely ( don't call me Shirley lol 😆) we are becoming predictable on these polls but what do I know!!

David Freese

Zzzz Zzzz

Larry Darrell

It’s so disappointing to see “One Fine Day” coming in 4th. I used to love that movie. The soundtrack was really good too. It’s so hard to believe it’s 28 years old.

DragonConToddOfTheDiscerningGeeksPortalPodcast

She had seen it before creating the channel

Cole Jennett

Four Weddings hands down. And a Funeral.

Mike LL

C'mon Four Weddings 💪

Witchfinder General

Damn!! Hard choice! These are all classics, except for Simon Birch. The book, A Prayer for Owen Meany, was soooo much better. But the others are all great!!

Phillip Bates

I know everyone resents Shakespeare in Love for beating out Saving Private Ryan for the Oscar, and your Gwyneth mileage may vary, but it’s definitely the best film here.

jdj830

Rom coms just don't do it for me. I wish you well on your favorite pick to win, but I am abstaining from making a pick on this particular poll. Good Luck, everyone. One last thing, Love Actually is NOT a rom com. It is a movie about many types of love with unexpected connections everywhere and tons of cameos by stars who were hugely popular in the 90s. Hell, even Mr. Bean couldn't drag the movie down....he even has one of the funnier scenes in it. Since my birthday is coming up next month, would you please react to Love Actually, Cassie?

Don Dunco

Shakespeare in Love is so well acted. Gwyneth Paltrow is excellent. She won best actress award

Steve Grad

Haha auto correct

Seymor Butz

Cassie, I have been - let’s say “highly encouraged” - to pick Hope Floats for the most high brow and noblest of reasons, that have nothing at all to do with me picking 100% of all the other polls and being threaten with sleeping on the floor. So, Hope Floats with Sandra Whatsherface, please.

Ike

When in doubt, pick the oldest movie on the poll

Andrew Ramos

Four weddings is 30 years old. How did that happen? I Andie MacDowell shone on this one, this, groundhog day and for me green card were pretty memorable. Her daughter is an actress as well in the movie the substance which has quite a bit of buzz about it recently.

rakesh

Thank you! I had never heard of this and it’s hilarious. (I would start talking about Hardware Wars but that’s getting us even further afield from Shakespeare…)

jdj830

She could really spend the rest of November watching all of these.

Dan M

It was on the last poll and no one voted for it

rakesh

Hmmmm chicken 🐔

rakesh

100% correct, Cole. And it made it very difficult to choose just one.

Dan M

Oh thank the gods for that, most people are going for the correct answer. Four Weddings and Funeral is a hilarious and deeply touching romcom.

Ria Grix

She watched movies prior to the channel being created, lol. She’s definitely seen them on her own beforehand

Cole Jennett

Yes four wedding and a funeral ( tbh surprised you haven't already seen it, seems exacrltly your kind of movie) and if you like Andie MacDowell in that, then hopefully you'll watch green card

rakesh

He stole the show at the Bafta Film Awards this year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64XlmVJYoy8

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I personally went Shakespeare, but no bad choice on here for her

Cole Jennett

Like Nine Months, which I’m hoping is on another poll before November is over, or is just chosen by Cassie as a PPOTM.

Dan M

Zzzz

Shehab Dawoud

4 weddings or one Fine Day for me. So much tenderness in every direction 😂👍🏽

Omar

Yes, yes, and yes!

Dan M

Every single one of these is worthy of a Tender November watch, and once again I’m flip flopping between two movies. So this time I just flipped a coin. Heads for Four Weddings and a Funeral and tails for One Fine Day. Heads it is. Will I be lucky enough once again to have my top two choices come in neck and neck like the last poll? 🤞 Probably not.

Dan M

Hope Floats has Sandra Bullock in it. As I recall it's a tale of a former beauty queen type, returning to her home town. She has hit bottom, needs friends, is trying to rebuild burned bridges and face the petty jealousy of so called friends. Highly relatable. A human interest story wrapped in Sandra's relatability and acting.

Ronald Carpenter

You haven't seen "Notting Hill"?! OMG!!!I know it's not on the list above but I did a search and it doesn't look like you've done a reaction to it. Wait... you haven't reacted to "Love Actually" either? Do hate Hugh Grant? :-)

Jeffrey Joll

I think he certainly isn't the passive, push over type he plays in the rom coms. He definitely does not suffer fools gladly

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

And of course, the one I vote for is in near last place 😅

mikethemotormouth

I have come to believe that, in real life, Hugh Grant is much closer to the sleazy-creepy rolls he’s been handling lately rather than his winsome-endearing nerd roles. I base this opinion completely on 0% knowledge of him IRL.

Above Average Dave

I’m confused by your wording, but think I get your meaning, lol

Cole Jennett

Im surprised she hasn't seen Hope Floats.

Timothy Silva

Btw, all of these movies fit the channel well.

R F.

I can't imagine that this one will be close. Four Weddings is a classic and perfect for the channel.

R F.

Tough One. Shakespeare in Love. 100 Foot Journey (surprised that one isn't doing much better). Four Weddings and a Funeral (not my favorite on the list, but still good). Hope Floats (one of my sister's favorite movies). And Simon Birch (a pretty good LOOSLY-based adaptation of the excellent novel A Prayer for Owen Meany). As someone who spent a lot of time studying Shakespeare and Elizabethan theater in college (both analysis and performance) I had to go with Shakespeare in Love, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a reaction to The 100 Foot Journey.

D. T. Nelson

Shoobie-doobie-doobie-doobie-doo-wop-wop Shoobie-doobie-doobie-doobie-doo-wop-wop “One Fine Day” - The Chiffons https://youtu.be/KvyOqKhKWQ4?si=x43JDMDIyEUqOsIf “One Fine Day” - Carole King https://youtu.be/IJFTVKOQKQA?si=84U8CjP0jcnfiitJ “One fine day, you'll look at me And you will know our love was meant be One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl” — Carole King (-: The Movie is just as Delightful as the Song. ;-)

Larry Darrell

You’ll enjoy all of these but it’s Four Weddings and a Funeral for me. I’ve only been suggesting it for 3 years!

James UK

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) not only launched Hugh Grant to super stardom but it also changed the types of acting roles he did for a long time afterwards. Up to Four Weddings, he was only acting in serious, dramatic films including Merchant/Ivory films Maurice (1987) and The Remains of the Day (1993). After the success of Four Weddings, he got type cast in a lot of romantic comedies for a long time after that!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

shakespeare in love is one of the greatest movies ever made. four weddings and a funeral is wonderful as well, and hope floats is not quite to that level, but also worth seeing. but i am giving my vote to one fine day, one of my favorite feel-good romcoms of all time

diego kontarovsky

100 foot journey would be a fun watch/reaction

Rosario

Simon Birch will make you cry and it’s a stealth Christmas movie

Joe Cross

seeing it would knock another Best Picture winner off of her list.

Matt Rose

100%

Cole Jennett

Both were totally worthy winners. It’s too bad Shakespeare gets looked down on for winning that year

Cole Jennett

4WaaF is hysterically funny.

Matt Rose

I can’t think of a reason why she wouldn’t love it🤷‍♂️

Cole Jennett

Hugh Grant should host the Oscars once...

Jens Kristensen

I'm sure many of you have seen the parody short film, "George Lucas In Love". But in case you haven't: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ49Smi2SLQ

Steve Holton

very good film.

Matt Rose

Even though I've never seen Four Weddings and a Funeral, even the trailers made me know it was funny. I don't think I was quite the right age at that point to get the jokes yet. I voted for Shakespeare in Love though. I remember I liked it, but I need to be reminded of how/why it stole the Oscar from Saving Private Ryan.

YodatheHobbit

Shakespeare in Love is the definitive choice here. Remember, for this one the audience is Cassie (i.e. "Cassie's Poll") not us. Within that rubric the choice is clear.

Above Average Dave

The universe is in order today. FWAAF and SIL in the leads. Do both Cassie! You won't regret it!

Ricardo Rodriguez

If Cassie ever does a Hugh Grant poll, I'd love to choose an early dramatic film he did called Maurice (1987), a Merchant/Ivory film of an E M Forster novel. It was published posthumously because it deals with homosexuality in Edwardian England, when it was considered illegal at that time. It's a very good film!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

gonna push back on HOPE FLOATS. My wife and I saw that theatrically and almost walked out of the theater. We call it SH_T FLOATS, to be honest. If you guys are fans, more power to you. Everyone likes what they like.

Matt Rose

OK Cassie I'm not a Rom/Com guy as you know but it baffles me how you haven't seen Hope Floats lol

William Bryan

Shakespeare in love is by far the chicken flick you would enjoy the most.

Seymor Butz

I don’t think there’s a movie on here that she wouldn’t love

Cole Jennett

You are likely correct. Maybe it'll make it into a runner up poll.

Phil Sexton

Simon Birch is a very underrated movie

Gary Osborn

Disappointed to not see the Peanut Butter Falcon on here.

shaneth138

do 4WaaF. You'll love it. One of the best comedies of the 90s.

Matt Rose

Sadly I think it’s destined for 2nd

Cole Jennett

I love it when the film that I voted for is in the lead! Doesn't happen that often!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

hope floats or one fine day?! i’m torn!

Foggy

100 Foot Journey has it all...romance, family, wedding...and food

Anthony Perez

Never seen any of these . Only voting Hope Floats because my sister and mother would watch this religiously

Philip G.

I'm really hoping for Simon Birch on this one. But Cassie better have a Costco size wad of tissues lol.

Blake Evans

Cassie would swoon at Shakespeare in Love.

Phil Sexton

Love Simon birch

Patrick York

Ooof too many good picks. She'd love Hope Floats.

Maria Soberanis

I voted for One Fine Day. George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. Haven’t seen that movie in a very long time, but I remember I really liked it.

Luke Godfrey

FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, all day and every day. Holy cow will you love that.

Matt Rose

I'm surprised One Fine Day is doing so well, but I guess it IS a small sample size.
