[YT Edit] Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for "Star Trek: First Contact" which will premiere a bit later!

[YT Edit] Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

Comments

I agree, this was an incredible clip to watch, with the cooperation of all, including William Shatner. Even if it was just AI, it was great seeing our heroes together again. Highly recommended.

JPDotCom23

In the novel "Ship of the Line" Kelsey Grammer's character has fleet seniority meaning HE gets command of the Enterprise-E initially. Great novel and an even better audionovel (they really go all out with the sound effects and music. Its available fully on youtube)

JD

Picard is awful. Truly garbage. The third season, while full of fan service, was also hot garbage with a pretty bow on top. If she likes the character of Picard it is a disservice to watch that "series" as it really bastardizes the established lore of the character. Specifically everything we saw in "Family" and Generations. They make him a completely different character.

JD

To criticism 3.... We have seen Riker SIT on the tactical console on the bridge in TNG. He could have fired torpedoes at a colony or released paralyzing gas somewhere on the ship with his butt doing that lol

Jerry Goldsmith was never "past his prime". The late 90's was a good for him. This movie, Air Force One, Mulan, US Marshalls, Toy Soldiers. I could go on and on.

JD

VI was the best for me.

RJ MacReady

It was on a Poll recently but lost. The Hitcher is excellent and more should see it!

RJ MacReady

This website was done in cooperation of Roddenberry's family and it's incredible https://roddenberry.x.io don't let the x concern you, please ban me if this is not legitimate, here's a story talking about it https://trekmovie.com/2024/11/18/watch-william-shatners-captain-kirk-returns-in-unification-short-film-from-roddenberry-archive/

Ted Hammond

"where u can replicate anything?" But you can't. For example- see the black market, "good" dilithium, ships, etc. That isn't even touching on the other problems. Here is an article and a quick reddit discussion about it- https://reason.com/volokh/2024/03/17/the-economics-and-politics-of-star-trek/ https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/comments/3ikt3n/cmv_star_trek_represents_a_dystopian_human/

Mike Lemon

I dunno. A replicator solves so many problems. What use would monetary value have in a society where u can replicate anything? A feudal society might have problems imagining a capitalist one. So it’s more our culture of capitalism and consumerism that’s an issue. Of course there’s the “well how do they own anything like a house or whatever” but as I say, that’s just our 21st century way of thinking. It’s less hand waving & more of a verisimilitude issue on the show and they do well showing the way various cultures intermingle, especially DS9(my personal favourite Star Trek)

Stan the Man

If anything from the last couple weeks has taught me anything it’s that the majority of people are idiots. For example, if I were to pick a random country of…oh let’s say, I don’t know, United States of America, I’d guess, and this is just a guess born out of no particular data. I’d guess a good 74 million+ are easily fooled, dumb, selfish, gullible etc. Again. That’s just a guess. Nothing in particular happened to give me that impression. Just a guess. Yep.

Stan the Man

Hard disagree

John Sullivan

As she mentioned at the start of the movie, the music had a bigger impact this time around vs Generations thanks to Jerry Goldsmith (who composed the TNG main theme which of course brings you back to The Motion Picture ). While he was past his prime this main theme really sets the tone. The movie would've been less without it.

Samir Sinha

I think she should watch Picard as well but I think the emotional impact of some of the episodes would be lessened greatly by not having watched Voyager. Seven of Nine is a critical character in Picard and if Cassie goes in cold she will be missing a lot of what, in my opinion, made some of the episodes of Picard great. Being episodic in nature I think she could easily do Voyager in the same way she did TNG

Joe

And you're right, Clay. That's blasphemy! Elvis wasn't a cajun!

Clarence Newman

I think we need an Armin Shimerman poll: Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (heavily discussed already, heavily vetoed by Mike, Armin's best work) Death Warrant (1990) - One of Van Damme's better works. Also stars the brilliant Robert Guillaume, with Armin as a little sh*t. Blind Date (1987) - Bruce Willis is set up on the date from Hell with Kim Basinger. Strong support from Armin as a French waiter. The Hitcher (1986) - Rutger Hauer, who continues to wait for Cassie to discover him and fall hopelessly in reluctant love. This is a superb movie, made all the greater by Armin Shimerman's masterful turn as a police interrogator.

Clarence Newman

Nothing beats out Voyage Home.

Clarence Newman

Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 were my favorites, but Star Trek TNG was the best Star Trek TV series.

V M

Peanut Butter Falcon reminds me of a French movie I saw almost thirty years ago : The Eighth Day (1996). The stories are different though.

René Ferland

Some ardent fans of TOS think it blasphemy and/or ridiculous to suggest that any TNG movie is better than Wrath of Khan (1982) or The Voyage Home (1986). What about Star Trek (2009)? 625,000 users at IMDb gave Star Trek (2009) an average rating of 7.9 134,000 users at IMDb gave First Contact (1996) an average rating of 7.6 IMDb 7.9, RT 94% (audience 91%) -- Star Trek (2009) IMDb 7.6, RT 93% (audience 89%) -- First Contact (1996) IMDb 7.7, RT 86% (audience 90%) -- Wrath of Khan (1982) IMDb 7.3, RT 82% (audience 81%) -- The Voyage Home (1986)

Clay F

First Contact (which is awesome) is the only excellent TNG movie.

Clay F

Agreed, it's my favorite ST movie... but I also think it's overall the BEST ST movie, too... I think it beats out Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home for the honor.

Ben Schwartz

There's a person in the settlement looking down who bears a striking resemblance to Armin Shimerman, and I can't help but wonder if it was a cameo...😯

Chris Clarke

It is but it's still not a very good movie. Except Patrick Stewart.

thansen

Not a high bar.

thansen

Well, perhaps not completely impossible, but still very, very far fetched. You need near-infinite power to warp space and we don't have supplies of anti-matter or fictional dilithium crystals lying around.

Shadowlord

Potentially THE best TNG film ever made!!

Sean

"This is why I love Star Trek." Just don't think about it too much. The "utopia" they try to portray really breaks down pretty quickly unless you do a lot of hand waving away of the problems.

Mike Lemon

That's good. "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982) did finish 2nd in the poll -- a distant 2nd -- but 2nd nevertheless and a better movie than the winner "Coming to America." Overall, my favorite in the poll is "Peanut Butter Falcon" (2019). But "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982) was part of our culture and I have nostalgia for it. My ex-wife and daughter love the ....

Clay F

No. No, 'very,' she just posted on the "upcoming" on the 17th of that month- "ALSO just FYI still coming this month..."

Mike Lemon

The Borge Queen was Alice Krige from Ghost Story 1981.Good older movie.

Tim C

Why, Mike? Why would you throw a tea towel over my flambe? And by the way, her exact words were allegedly "very" soon. Did you get a "very" when she promised you the other movie two years ago? I think not, my friend.

Clarence Newman

"Before you watch a show most people hate, except for the last 10 episodes, you should watch 340 other 1 hour episodes." F' the non-Trek people I guess.

Mike Lemon

@Clarence - Soon is a fairly relative term. Just remember a "coming this week" took two years.

Mike Lemon

😂😂😂🚗

Mark White

Your YT view numbers are way off. TNG avg. 83k views (15 posts), October Halloween for 13 posts avg. 106K views.

Joe

OK, I'm back. It's taken me a while to reply because I've been up on the coffee table doing a Chandler Bing victory dance for the past 20 minutes. Could I BE any happier? This causes me a dilemma, though. I was planning to send Cassie a bag of M&Ms as a thank you for all her great reactions, but that now seems inadequate. I feel like Sheldon Cooper after Penny gave him the napkin with Leonard Nimoy's autograph on it. I'm off to buy her a small car.

Clarence Newman

Scouts honor Clarence. Fair bet she'll do runner-up from both the Tender November polls. Maybe top 3...why not.

Joe

The TNG episodes typically pull in 7K-10K views. The October Halloween movies each brought in less than 6K views. Soooooo...

Shadowlord

IMO, Cassie should stay well clear of DS9 and Voyager, however, Picard is certainly doable with 30 episodes...so I could see that maybe happening next year. Keep in mind that whatever she watches for the channel needs to attract reasonable YT views.

Joe

Hi Cassie, I love your reactions, I love trek, put them together and you get the best chocolate cake with chocolate sprinkles on top! Awesome! Thanks for this Star Trek journey you have been on. It’s given me so much to look forward to. You’re the best 😃

Mark White

You what? She did what? She said what? HWUT??? Joseph, you better not be messing with me now. Don't do me like that, brother!

Clarence Newman

Thanks Joe, good movie, I will look forward to that, not as much as Clarence! Of course😆

Mark White

FYI, I asked Cassie in the YT premiere and she confirmed that "An Officer and a Gentlemen" is coming very soon.

Joe

Great reaction, Cassie! "First Contact" is a brilliant movie. I saw it at the local theater in 1996. It was not the norm that Star Trek movies was shown on the big screen in Denmark at the time. Well, it only ran for a week. I was 16 and never had any money so I only saw a movie in the theater once... except for "First Contact", - the only movie I've ever seen twice ... and of course I loved it both times - and I still do...

Jens Kristensen

Great film, though. 🖖

Clarence Newman

And don't get me started on the whole "they'll ignore us until they consider us a threat" malarkey. If I'm at war with someone and I find an armed group of them in one of my buildings, I'm going to consider them a threat!

Clarence Newman

Easily explainable, Shawn. The version of Cochrane seen in "Metamorphosis" crash-landed on that planet as an old man that looked exactly like James Cromwell in First Contact. He then meets the Companion, who restores him to an age some 30 years younger. Lonely and female, the Companion then spends several years using a method not unlike the one Sandra Bullock used on Stallone in Demolition Man to shag him silly. It is therefore perfectly feasible that the Cochrane Kirk meets in "Metamorphosis" is not only much younger but also far more chilled and fuzzy than the one in First Contact.

Clarence Newman

There were a lot of cameos from another Star Trek show; Voyager. Perhaps that’s the next show you should watch. It’s a lost federation starship trying to make its way back home. If/when you watch the series Picard, it will make a lot more sense having watched Voyager.

ChristopherTracy

To your 3rd point in Criticisms, Mark, I only need to quote Kathryn Janeway....."This is why temporal mechanics gives me a headache."

Clarence Newman

Great movie and a great reaction from the world's number one Star Trek fan. But I have to say this - The Borg are biblically stupid. When they first meet the Federation in Q Who?, one of their ships fails to assimilate the Enterprise. Maybe it would've done so eventually without Q's help, but it certainly wouldn't have been considered an easy win. Nothing to worry about, though. It was only one Borg ship. When they finally turn up in our solar system (Best of Both Worlds), with the intention of assimilating Earth, how many ships do they send?........One. Military strategists would suggest they should probably have sent two just to make sure, but maybe it was a collective ego thing. They almost got the job done there but ended up getting destroyed. Now here they are beginning "AN INVASION OF THE FEDERATION!" (that's the entire Federation, not just one ship or one planet), and how many ships do they send?.............One. Seriously. How do these nimrods even tie their shoes in the morning?

Clarence Newman

DS9 is only very serialized in the last two seasons, and it’s possible to watxh more of these by skipping a lot of inconsequential episodes from the first seasons (bajoran politics, the maquis, odo’s temporary change to solid)

Hannah

😂

Anthony Carlson

The best TNG movie 🖖

John Sullivan

I know it’s not for everyone, but loved how they fleshed out the Borg in Voyager.

Mark White

I do understand many peoples thoughts on wanting Cass to watch DS9 and Voyager, I mean, I’m a massive Trekkie! I would love to see that myself! BUT DS9 is not really episodic in nature like TNG, especially in later seasons, where it becomes one long episode for a whole season and thusly can’t be viewed in bits and pieces. I just don’t know if Cassie can commit to an entire run, because of how none Trekkies would feel. Even if Cassie watched two or three episodes a month (so just one slot a month) it would take a year just to watch one season. Anymore than this would upset none trek fans. You talking 14 years just to watch all of DS9 and voyager! Let alone going back and watching the rest of TOS and TNG. But, saying all that, I truly hope to be watching PiB in 14 years time still so, to quote Zefram Cochrane WHY NOT?!!

Mark White

I want to put forth a theory on why so many Trek fans like this movie the best (or at least the best of the TNG films). One of my biggest complaints with TNG vs TOS is that the characters in TNG are often so rigid and restrained, vs in TOS they are much more demonstrative and emotional, with the humorous and tense interactions mainly between Kirk, Spock and Bones. In TNG it's much more, well almost militaristic, with how they talk to each other, no doubt following Picard's lead, as he's much more serious in nature than Kirk was. In First Contact, what makes it so enjoyable for fans is that the characters FINALLY start showing some strong emotions, and begin having very intense conversations and arguments with each other (except for Riker, who feels like he's in a different movie from everyone else). Who doesn't get chills seeing how intense Picard gets killing the Borg, yelling at Lilly, insulting Worf, etc. Or seeing Worf as angry as he is. This movie is great because it feels like there are real stakes to what is going on because the crew is so shaken up and emotional about what is happening. I feel like this was something that was often lacking from this crew, where there often wasn't much emotion, except in rare instances. It's for this same reason that my second favorite TNG movie is Nemesis, despite it being 100% just recycled plots from other Trek films. The emotional reactions of the characters is also why the JJ Abrams movies work so well. Anyway, those are my thoughts, but I won't be surprised if Trek fans disagree with me.

Stranger2Reality

That would be awesome!

Stranger2Reality

Love it! A high point of Trek films. 1) Brings in Reg from TNG, DS9 obviously (is that Sisko on coms during the battle?) and The Doc and Neelix (sort of) from Voyager 2) The Defiant slaps hard. Second best Star Trek ship and Adam Scott on the conn cements his nerd resume. 3) Sweaty Borg make them scarier. 4) No Guinan but Alfre Woodward did great as the wise conscience roll. 5) Bravo, Cassie, on your recognition of Lt. Buck Compton and Capt. Dudley Smith. Criticisms: 1) Ryker…hundreds if not thousands are dead and you wanna break Worfs balls? 2) Worf was not a member of the crew on this new ship at the start and yet he has senior-level authorization to initiate self destruct? Or they found time to process that paperwork/red tape? 3) They very easily and casually with no problem at all went…Back to the Future…even without the help of Commander Kruge (what if Genesis generated 1.21 gigawatts!?). And with that ease, couldn’t the Borg at any point have gone back to the past much easier and sent the past Borg to Earth? PS Go Birds!

Mark Daniels

He does play a great bad guy for sure.

Shawn Kildal

James Cromwell mannerisms, to me, didn't quite resemble the Zefram character first introduced in TOS episode "Metamorphosis". It was one several episodes I wished Cassie would have seen earlier.

Shawn Kildal

She should definitely watch the pilots of both series to see if her interest is piqued. And remember she only watched four TOS episodes, so a few more of those would be good as well. But I kind of hope she skips the rest of the ST movies (well maybe the 2009 reboot but not the sequels, and definitely not the other two TNG films.) This is the best possible note to end on. (And I’m ready for her to take on the Planet of the Apes franchise…)

jdj830

I would love for her to watch DS9, I think it's a great follow-up and has more of the stuff that she likes. But...DS9, along with other shows, is a serial show, and you can't cherry pick episodes. She'd have to watch the whole thing for it to make sense. I doubt she'd invest that much of her channel to one single show like DS9.

Kristin D

I would love to see Voyager on Cassie's radar someday :)

Joe

This is easily one of the best of the movies. I've watched it many times. But seeing it through Cassie's eyes was a new experience. Thank you!

Michael Siegel

After the next two movies, Cassie is going to want to see Picard. But maybe she should see DS9 and Voyager first. Spoiler-free thoughts?

Shadowlord

I can’t wait for you to watch Picard once you’re done with the movies. You should watch every episode. Short seasons.

Christopher Bruno

yes Jerry Goldsmith was a genius, the score is magnificent work

Pat Cecil

Well spotted mate, yup you are spot on with that

Pat Cecil

my fave Star trek movie by miles. Love everything about it :) Plus the Enterprise E is awesome!

Pat Cecil

Goosebumps when he met the Vulcans! Interestingly, the idea of traveling faster than the speed of light is not quite as far fetched anymore because of a theoretical physicist by the name of Miguel Alcubierre who published his paper in 1994 about this very thing.

Elias Shaikh

if you were any other man I'd kiss you where you stand!

ExploreWinnipeg

Stick Figure, I still wish Citizen Kane had won:P

V M

Because of this movie, and the references to Moby Dick, Patrick Stewart was cast as Captain Ahab in a tv miniseries of Moby Dick, and he was fantastic as Ahab. I don’t know if it’s available, but if so, I recommend you watch it.

TeenTyrant

It was a good Movie you see more Queen B on Voyager. I Think my favorite though is Insurrection the Next Movie, think I still have it on VHS.Like the New ship it more reminisent of the original Enterprise. Took me awhile to get use to Enterprise D looked like a wierd Cobra Cruise ship.🙂

Tim C

Wow her first time meeting Lt. Broccoli. I think she would have liked him a lot had she seen the TNG episodes about him.

Randy

Definitely the best TNG movie, but I think a couple films featuring the original cast are superior to it.

Stick Figure Studios

I still prefer ST: TMP, but Goldsmith always did good work. Horner too.

Stick Figure Studios

I came *this* close to including 2001 as one of my five picks when I won the Trivia night.

Stick Figure Studios

"Woof!"🤣🤣🤣

Chris Clarke

❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷💖💫🚀

clutchkman

Galaxy Quest, while being a fun movie, is nothing more than a cheap copy.

Chris

I always loved this movie. Back when it came out, fans were like "The Borg? Again?" But that faded. Great reaction!

Dana Regan

Oh Cassie the borg were not the only threat. Thats why they were using those those grey uniforms because the federation was fighting 2 opponents at the same time on opposite sides of the quendrant

David Freese

The Original Series had an episode called "Metamorphosis". We were actually introduced to Zefram in that episode. Cassie should go back and watch that one if she hasn't already.

Chris

Not a ST movie..novelette. no ST cast in it.

Dana Regan

It’s been such an incredible journey to see you go from being a Star Trek novice to this point. You’ve reached peak Trek. The movie I would love to see you watch next is 2001: A Space Odyssey. It’s the godfather (or even The Godfather) of modern sci-fi movies, with its own unique take on the first contact narrative. You have seen so many movies that have referenced 2001 and this would be the perfect time to visit the source. And it would be the perfect film to put your new theater setup to the test since it must be seen on the biggest screen possible. LLAP

jdj830

Galaxy Quest is not Star Trek as much as some of you all want it to be.

David Freese

Also weird seeing him play a good guy.

Dustin Denner

Wrath of Khan says hold my 🍺

David Freese

Neal McDonough! I’m so used to seeing him as a light blond - weird to see him as a brunette.

Marja

I am not sure but I think that when we are listening to the initial report of the battle with the borg, it was Kelsey Grammer's voice acknowledging for the USS Bozeman. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part that he was reprising his role from the episode Cause and Effect. For Cassie. He is best known as Frasier from Frasier and Cheers.

Stephen Last

Best Star Trek soundtrack by far

Chris

Well the best TNG movie for sure, but some Khan fans might argue with you about best ever.

Mike LL

Not in a world where GALAXY QUEST exists.

T.J. Gengler

“I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And *I* will make them pay for what they've done!” -Jean-Luc Picard

Anthony Carlson

"What a bunch of rhetorical nonsense." - Zefram Cochrane

Stranger2Reality

BEST STAR TREK MOVIE EVER.
