[YT Edit] What Lies Beneath (2000)

Comments

This was one of my favorite reactions

V M

So would I

V M

Sadness.

Philip Alan

Watching this I genuinely felt sad and a little concerned for Carly. I hope she's recovered ok!

Mike Carey

They are super fun. Feel kind of creepy enjoying the scary reactions so much but movies like this are just too tailor made for them.

Chris Thom

"I'm loookkiiiiiing." (wide trauma eyes) lol

Chris Thom

Cassie dropped a bomb shell last week. Said she'd take Trek over Star Wars any day.

Chris Thom

Was wondering why people kept bringing up the writer. I always get him mixed up with Better Call Saul guy.

Chris Thom

Clark Gregg, the writer of the film, is better recognized as Agent Phil Coulson from the MCU.

Brian Lowery

Agreed completely. This reaction was a HOOT. Great job PIB team. This was a period of levity in an otherwise tense week.

Mark Duedall

This is amazing! We should just do a whole video of Cassie and mystery person under blanket.

Author Travis Adams Irish

I’ve always liked this movie, even as a big Harrison Ford fan. I’m not sure you all recognized Mary Feur. She was played by Miranda Otto, aka Eowyn.

Kevin Townsend

Question: Why did tens of thousands of users at IMDB give What Lies Beneath a subjective rating = mediocre average 6.6, but gave Band of Brothers a subjective rating = stellar average 9.4? Answer: Because the consensus was Band of Brothers is much better than What Lies Beneath, which is generally helpful to me. Not a fool's errand.

Clay F

"Why does the movie gets mixed reviews?" Because movies are subjective, therefore relying on a rating is a fool's errand (mostly)?

Mike Lemon

P.S. How can you not remember Harrison Ford as Han Solo? Shameful!! :)

Philip Alan

That is what was going on. I remember. Twas annoying at the time.

Ricardo Rodriguez

It's very well done for what it is. But the storyline is fairly basic and straightforward. The tension and setting and movie stars are what set it apart. But during M. Night's heyday people may've been expecting bigger twists they didn't see coming.

Chris Thom

Why does the movie gets mixed reviews? 138,000 users at IMDb = average rating of 6.6 What Lies Beneath (2000). IMDb 6.6, Metacritic 51%, RT 47% (audience 58%). "Robert Zemeck is unable to salvage an uncompelling and unoriginal film." I did a first watch along with the full reaction. I thought Michelle Pfeiffer did well. Further, I didn't have the spoiler that Cassie had -- I didn't see that coming. The Cassie/Carly reaction was good and complemented the movie. Glad that Carly covered her eyes when she wanted -- Cassie kept Carly abreast.

Clay F

Ahh.. the goofiness of the 2000s. I miss it.

Zoro 7

Their interactions are adorable sometimes: "Are you closing your eyes?" "Yes." "I think that's good." And that has to be the cutest "yes" in the history of yeses.

Clarence Newman

“Is it over??”😂😂😂

Wil Olandria

You beat me to it!!! I came to the Patreon to write this fun fact!!😆 Zemeckis is a genius!!

Wil Olandria

Yeah he wanted to hire the same crew apparently. Sounds like a long schedule though.

Chris Thom

Fun fact - Robert Zemeckis filmed this movie while production for his other film Cast Away was on hiatus for Tom Hanks to lose weight and grow a beard for the latter portions of the movie on the island.

Ty Kellington

Carly, you did great!!

Lee

41:31: lol @ Cassie laughing at Carly for screaming while not even watching the movie.

V M

Who wouldn't like to see you two react to a scary movie!? Some times your reactions make it LESS scary for me to watch, cause it's fun watching you two. Some times you jump scare so hard it make it MORE scary for me... And for a few seconds at the end you were both under the sheets, none of you watching the movie... that is just too cute. I can't wait till next movie with you. :)

Arne Bjørnebekk

I saw this one in the theater when it came out. It really was good & scary. P.S. it’s impossible to ruin Harrison Ford.

Morgan A. Colbert

Love this thumb nail 😂😂. Carly you don’t have to apologise for anything. Don’t listen to the crazy’s that criticised you for it, that’s there problem not yours. Personally thought it was a great reaction video even though it probably wasn’t a great experience for you.

Dean Holt

That picture is perfect! LMAO

Ricardo Rodriguez

This makes me love Carly even more. Be you, Carly!

Above Average Dave

I love the way Cassie looks after Carly when she's having a stress moment. She's such a Mom, even to her sister.

Clarence Newman

You and Carly watching scary movies just makes the reactions a comedy to me.

Shad Kanyak

Tremors

Clarence Newman

If there was an award for best thumbnail this would win, it is so funny Carly just couldnt watch the last 10mins of the movie lol.

Jasbro

I had a feeling this one would make for a good reaction, but it was above and beyond any expectations!! Yet, another movie which personally for me was just meh, but yet your reaction made it so SO entertaining! That thumbnail! 😆. Oh Carly, you kill me! I’m so sorry, but you made me laugh so hard it hurt! 🤣 perhaps that’s karma for me finding it funny! I think you guys made it worse for each other. Your anxieties were feeding off each others anxiety. In a way you both were ratcheting up each others fear. I guess that’s Carly done forever with October! A virtual big hug for Carly. And Carly we all have our very different levels for fear and you were brave and took yours to the limit. So well done.

Mark White

I'd be entertained if Carly just sat with a bag of popcorn and watched Cassie watch a scary movie. She'd still be jumping all over the bed.

Clarence Newman

Cassie, you should know that the MPAA ratings are not based on how scary or intense a movie is, it's based on how much swearing or nudity there is, and it's almost funny what their criteria is. A movie could be PG and be absolutely terrifying just as long as there's no swearing, blood or nudity in it.

Stranger2Reality

Carly is a delight, and I would never understand anybody giving her grief over the way she reacts to this kind of thing. As she's said many times, it's who she is, just like Cassie is who she is, and we're here as subscribers (as opposed to doing a fly-by on Youtube) because we enjoy seeing how they specifically react to different kinds of movies. Some will doubtless say that holding a blanket over your face for the last 20 minutes is abandonment of the reaction, but I call it reaction gold. Especially when Cassie's jumpscares were being vicariously "enjoyed" by Carly, despite being behind the blanket with no earphones in. Seriously, ladies. Never, ever change.

Clarence Newman

what do you mean possibly?

V M

Great reaction and possibly the best thumbnail ever👌

J E D

I don’t think I’ve seen either of you scream so loud at jump scares before. Anyway it’s not usual to see Harrison Ford as the bad guy. I think that made it worse for you both.

Elias Shaikh

For the love of God, please bring back Carly for another scary movie!!!!! Even if she just listens to it!!!👍👍

Jay505

Yes, just never watched it

V M

Had you ever heard of it before?

Chris Thom

I just watched this movie for the first time. It was good, and I loved Cassie's and Carly's reactions.

V M

Seems like anything right before or after 9/11 got lost in time a bit.

Chris Thom

Can't tell if these two are supporting each other and easing fears, or getting each other riled up. Seems like a bit of both. Hope Carly is ok. Movie movie movie movie.

Chris Thom

I thought this was a great thriller with properly scary jump scares which I hadn't rewatched in over a decade. I would not have called this 'not scary' or 'Carly-safe' and I don't blame her for having to shut her eyes. Both of your reactions were absolutely hilarious to watch, but I would have told Carly to sit this one out if I could have because I don't like to think of her (or you, with movies like It) being traumatised for our enjoyment. Hopefully November will bring something she will actually enjoy watching.

Sarah Frost

It been yrs since I first seen it but good movie like a ghost Story. A older movie worth watching is Ghost Story 1981 .Four old friends meet to tell ghost stories, the one Story they are reluctant to tell is a true one they have involvement in.Has a old Fred Astaire. And a Hauntingly Beautifull woman.

Tim C

So when this won in another reactors Patreon poll against Evil Dead(my personal fave in that particular trilogy) a couple years ago, I said "Well guess I gotta see how much better it is". So I saw it that weekend for the first time myself . For the first 30-45, I was like "Y'know I really liked this movie a lot better when it was called Rear Window". And then Madison's character was introduced and I said "Oh wait...this is more like Gothika though not quite as satisfying or concise". Overall, I found it fairly entertaining, maybe a little too meandering. It was good at building and holding tension. One problem I had was with two pieces of dialogue, in the same scene funny enough, that made me stop and say "wait...whaaat? That makes zero sense": after Norman's affair is uncovered, Claire spends a night with Jody at her place. Jody is telling a story to Claire about seeing Norman in Adamant and says something like "He wasn't alone. He was sitting with a young blonde woman. I couldn't see her face..." So she couldn't see her face but could tell she was young? Then a couple minutes later, Claire starts to leave and says "I can't talk to him. I just need to ask him something." So how are you going to ask him your question without speaking to him? And then she goes and talks to him anyway. However, I can look past these small missteps of logic and would be open to seeing this again.

mikethemotormouth

This is a really underrated movie nowadays. It was a big hit when it was released, and I remember the sold out crowd I saw it with opening weekend going crazy for it, but this movie has really faded from the zeitgeist over the years. I'm glad to see it finding any new fans. Also, why would a therapist have giant fireball candies in his office like that? You'd think a therapist wants you to talk when you're there, but you can't do it with that giant candy in your mouth. Maybe this was his ploy to stretch the therapy out over as many sessions as possible by slowing down the rate at which his patients could speak so they'd have to pay for more sessions 😂

Stranger2Reality

OMG. I love this thumbnail.

Stick Figure Studios

lol @ the thumbnail

V M

I actually felt bad for Carly here. It's fun to be scared for entertainment but she was genuinely horrified at the end.

Jacob Lunbeck

Very funny thumbnail!

clutchkman

Hahaha Carly got too scared. 🤭
