Tender November Poll (Pre 1970)

Ok wow guys, we did it! I have officially watched my last spooky movie for October and I need this poll, I really do! I just want to lay in my bed and watch all of these haha.

There is going to be two polls. Tender November (post 1970) and Tender November (pre 1970) So make sure to vote on both.

This will end on Friday 11/1, you can vote multiple times

Comments

I hope that Cassie likes Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as a team, and will subsequently watch "The Great Race". Another great comedy!

bgb1975

I'm so happy "Some like it hot" won. It is such a cinematic gem and probably the best srewball comedy ever made, with one of the most famous movie quotes of all time (at least in my part of the world šŸ˜‰) ...🤩

silverarrow06

Sorry. That was my fault, I voted for it.

Mike Lemon

347 isn't a bad tally, Art. Assuming Cassie watches the top 2 (she normally does), it only missed out by 9 votes! I feel your pain, of course, because I've had quite a few films miss the cut on polls that I know (KNOW!!!!!) Cassie would absolutely love. In this case, though, I wouldn't put it past her to Popcorn Pick My Fair Lady. I'm sure you're not the only one who's told her that it would be right up her street.

Clarence Newman

What is it with people not wanting her to watch My Fair Lady? It's SUCH A Cassie movie. Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn in a romantic musical? And it came in 3rd??? Ugh! It's the curse of Art's vote rearing it's ugly head again.

Art of Free Speech

It finished 3rd in the poll. Shin, so by rights it missed the cut. Then again, it's the kind of film she often uses her Popcorn Pick of the Month on. It's on my wish list too, so fingers crossed.

Clarence Newman

Some Like It Hot is such a good movie and wow what a socially ground breaking film for its time.

NJC

True

V M

It’s not tender. Dr. Zhivago is more tender. But Cassie should watch Lawrence of Arabia. Magnificent film.

Catherine LW

The scene at the beach, Joe

Clarence Newman

Sad that An Affair To Remember is doing so poorly. Cassie would love this and probably answer some questions about Sleepless In Seattle(how I found An Affair To Remember). When she eventually gets to it she'll have to rewatch Sleepless. It'll probably make more sense.

Katie Jackson

ā€œSOUTH PACIFICā€ for sure! Amazing film.

Patreot

Cassie should watch "From Here To Eternity", but why is it on this poll?

Joe

It's on my list, Jens, therefore seconded. Remember Cassie, a horse lost its head to get Sinatra that role! (I'm not kidding either. That scene in the Godfather is based on an (alleged) true story.)

Clarence Newman

Obvs speaking generally

Patreot

"From Here To Eternity# is simply a must-see.... No contest here - It gets my vote...

Jens Kristensen

@Patreot, the most likely winners, "Some Like it Hot" and "My Fair Lady" are hardly grim, gruesome, and gritty (haha).

Joe

That’s nice, if those lists mean something to you.

Richard Maurer

I recall it was released but didn’t view it.

Catherine LW

Eliza, you wouldn't have the heart to send me home to your stepmother without a drop of liquid protection, now would you?šŸ˜…

Monte Durbin

Let's also not forget the incomparable dubbed singing by the iconic Marnie Nixon!

Monte Durbin

8 of these movies are top 100 or top 150 movies of all time. This poll is insane.

David

Saw a movie not too long ago where Nicole Kidman played Princess Grace. Not sure many knows it exists. Think it came out right when covid started.

Chris Thom

Yeah, I don’t consider that a real romance- more of a dark comedy.

Catherine LW

I can watch the part when they’re on that cruise ship over and over again. It was so funny and sweet. Cary and Deborah Kerr were perfect in comedic timing and romance!

Catherine LW

She was actually running around with Oleg Cassini at that time. Cary Grant and his wife were chaperoning!

Catherine LW

Cassie! Cassie!! CASSIE!!!! Over here. All agitated and waving my arms at you. Someone just suggested below that you might take the two winners from these two polls and then match them against each other in a final poll. Like you did with the Scary But Well Scaries. Please don't. Please don't. Please don't. These are all tender movies and, if you watch the top 2 from each, you will be basking in their gentle greatness for the entire month of November. If you deprive yourself of two of them for the sake of a final head-to-head poll, we will be forced to consider it self-harming and call for an intervention! The same will apply if you don't watch An Officer and a Gentleman.

Clarence Newman

Aaagggh. I hadn't thought of that, Doug. I hope you're wrong this time. I understand her doing it on horror polls (less winners she HAS to watch), but for Tender November? Nope, uh-uh, not having it. There's no need to turn 4 into 2 when she'll enjoy them all.

Clarence Newman

And Stanley Holloway as Alfred Doolittle in a minor role is worth the ticket just by hisself.

Happy Hanukkah

She actually met him at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955. They ended up getting married and he made her give up acting. Therefore we should hate him.

Clarence Newman

I was just reminded of something… One of the most famous movie dogs ever, from the beloved Thin Man movies, Asta… is in Bringing Up Baby. Does that sway the vote any? ;-)

Larry Darrell

Asta is in Bringing Up Baby.

Larry Darrell

The stuff that dreams are made of

V M

For my money, Myrna Loy and William Powell were the best Hollywood couple "in the movies" ever. So much so that everyone thought they were real-life husband and wife but were ever only good friends. And once you find out you love them together, there's a dozen other movies they were together in to enjoy.

Hutch

Right, but didn't she meet him while working on to Catch a Theif? That was the story I had heard but could be wrong

T.L.A

To be fair, you can’t really expect people to vote for movies they haven’t seen. Now if you’re saying that a lot of patrons don’t have much of a ā€œfilm educationā€ I’d agree, but you still can’t blame them for voting for the films they know.

Richard Maurer

Must have Notorious in that poll!

Catherine LW

Based on a book by Dashiell Hammett, the same author that wrote ā€œThe Maltese Falconā€, as well as numerous stories featuring his Continental Op character, which became the foundation for every major PI character in fiction for the next 100 years.

Just Plain Bob

Asta!

Catherine LW

Princess. She married Prince Rainier.

Catherine LW

To Catch a Theif for Grace Kelly & Cary Grant. The movie that made her a Queen!

T.L.A

I've never seen itšŸ˜‚šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Katie Jackson

How could you leave out "The Apple Dumpling Gang" (1975)?! ;)

Doug Fisher

You expect logic from a poll?! ;)

Doug Fisher

Did you see some of the movies on the post 1970 "Tender November" poll?! I think "Tender" is a loose interpretation or it just means any movie that isn't scary or gory. ;)

Doug Fisher

All you needed to say was... AUDREY HEPBURN!! ;)

Doug Fisher

You do realize that if you voted for more that 4 movies you are voting against yourself?!

Doug Fisher

You were expecting logic and taste on a poll?!

Doug Fisher

I agree, but what will happen is the top half of the pre 1970 poll will make it to the third poll to go up against the top half of the other "Tender November" poll (post 1970).

Doug Fisher

As I have referenced before in other comment section... "Live and Let Die" was one of the two Moore Bond films chosen for the girls to watch; which perfectly demonstrates the patron's choosing ability and overall validity of poles. Additionally, the reality is that most Patrons have not seen a majority of the films listed on the poll so only vote for what they know.

Doug Fisher

OMG Didn't know I needed a My Fair Lady reaction until I saw this poll. Would absolutely LOVE to watch it with you, Cassie.

Shin Yeji

Bedknobs and Broomsticks! Cassie's editor could do a special graphic based on the bed scene.

Clarence Newman

Do you remember this one, guys? Not from the film, but inspired by it: "The watuh in Majorcuh don't taste like what it oughta!"

Clarence Newman

"The Rain in Spain falls Mainly on the Plain"

Allen W. McDonnell

I'm also 100% on the My Fair Lady team for this one....it's the single most brutal take on the deprecation of the English language in motion picture history....also a twisty love story.

J

Yeah, well ā€œAn Affair To Rememberā€ is the ultimate ā€œchick flick,ā€ so no surprise it’s at the bottom in a poll voted on by Cassie’s mostly male audience. It is such a shame she’s constantly steered to react to grim, gruesome and gritty men’s films rather than being introduced to the great classic ā€œwomen’sā€ films that are perfectly suited to her taste.

Patreot

Room For One More is another Cary Grant film that is tender. Family movie that brings up the issue of adopting children at risk. Ahead of its time (1950’s), funny, poignant and sweet. Was written by Grant’s third wife, Betsy Drake.

Catherine LW

I totally agree, I really hope to see them react to it at some point t, as I'm positive they would love it. Looks like it is quite a it down the pecking order, and this is a particularly strong poll, but still delighted to see it turn up in a poll..... It's on the radar!

Paul Browne

I kind of would like to see The Maltese Falcon just to FINALLY know what the heck that title is referring to. I feel like I've heard of that movie name since I was 5. I think they parody or reference it in Looney Tunes.

YodatheHobbit

My fair lady is one of my all time favourite go-to movies when I need a pick-me-up. Audrey Hepburn is exquisite! By the way, if you need some other classics to react to Auntie Mame (1958 with Rosalind Russel), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (the barn raising dance scene is one of the best dance scenes on film), There’s No business like show business (1954), and Pocketful of Miracles (1961) are all brilliant, make you feel wonderful films. I highly recommend every one of them.

Callie Stephen

Correct on all counts

V M

Yeah, its not exactly a tender movie, but lets watch it anyway :P

V M

He's saying Maltese Falcon is a better movie than some like it hot, which it is.

V M

Absolutely!

Patreot

ā€œAn Affair To Rememberā€ is the only one of these that has ā€œtendernessā€ as its central feature. A shame it won’t win, because I can see Cassie and Carly particularly loving that one. It’s such an iconic and important film in the romance genre. But ā€œSome Like It Hotā€ and ā€œMy Fair Ladyā€ are great, great films, so I won’t complain if either of those win.

Patreot

Yes, Cassie, an important heads up for December…. ā€œMEET ME IN ST. LOUISā€ is traditionally watched in the Christmas season. It’s where the song ā€œHave Yourself A Merry Little Christmasā€ came from. ā€œMeet Me In St. Louisā€ is the all time favorite film of many serious classic film fans (myself included.) It’s very warm and fuzzy. It’s one that should definitely be watched with Carly. Another traditional Christmas classic is ā€œThe Bishop’s Wife.ā€

Patreot

kind of early but Meet me in St. Louis she be added soon

zynjams

I love the Swiss family Robinson

zynjams

I’m saying MF is much better than SLiH, but it’s not winning. Seemed clear to me.

Richard Maurer

very funny husband wife detective series with a cute dog

zynjams

the Maltese Falcon is a brilliant Classis. what are you saying?

zynjams

I’m kind looking forward to Howard at this point. I love when Cassie has no reference point for the film she’s watching.

Richard Maurer

No one under 50 will be admitted to this poll.

Richard Maurer

Some Like it Hot over The Maltese Falcon? Even with a classic poll the patrons make some weird choices.

Richard Maurer

These are all classics. I really think she should take more than one from this list. (at least two, if not three)

Robert

That moment of pure joy seeing Charade on the poll, clicking on it, only to see it losing by 200 votes...

Keith Jones

Bringing Up Baby is never going to win in a poll, Cassie will have make it a popcorn pick. Cassie, if Some Like It Hot wins, Carly must watch along, since it is a part of Carly's Romantic List. :)

Mark Vaderr

This poll suffers from a serious lack of Lawrence of Arabia.

MotoDork

Thank goodness it's a multi-vote because I voted for almost all these movies. My #1 must be Some Like it Hot. I've been asking for this for a long time.

Julie

Wow. These are all classic in their own way. I'm a gonna go with The Maltese Falcon because of the one and only Bogie. Each and everyone would be enjoyed by Cassie and Carly.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Hardly anyone has done a first time reaction to, "My Fair Lady!" Phenomenal performances by both Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolitle and, Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins! A must watch.

Monte Durbin

I'm still hoping that one day operation petticoat and father goose will make it onto a Cary Grant poll

James Moy

Extra points for channeling Barry Manilow (the things we retain . . .)

2-Can

When in doubt...choose the one with the sexiest actors/actresses. Def used to do that at the video store and can't say I regret it.

Chris Thom

I think Cary Grant should win all of these!

Jerrod Acree

Some day, The Thin Man will make it to a poll.

Hutch

My personal choice is Charade. It's an all time favorite of mine. To Catch a Thief, because it's another Cary Grant classic. But I do love Some Like It Hot as well, so I can't be too disappointed.

Walter

Classic films are definitely great and entertaining ways to learn about the 20s, 30s and 40s.

Larry Darrell

Me too. ;-)

Larry Darrell

Time to get the Swoon Cam back out.

John

Yeah, I saw that and was like there's nothing tender about that movie lol

Jere

Bringing Up Baby is just as crazy funny as Arsenic. Too bad the Philadelphia Story wasn't on here. Harvey would be been wonderful too.

John

Maltese Falcon is a little strange for the category, but still great. Excellent selection though. If you ever get around to a Cary Grant week add People Will Talk to the list, it's a movie with a message that applies even more today than it did back then.

John

Some Like It Hot is another I’ve been dying for you to see. One of the greatest comedies of all time and the best film ending ever. Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe are fantastic.

China Andronicus

Guilty, with a collection of pre-1970 movies. Not always, but a factor. For instance, 1965 vs 1935 has an advantage to me generally in terms of production and connection. Though, sometimes I want to watch a 1935 movie to better understand history of the time.

Clay F

A few more pre 1970 recommendations: *Yours, Mine and Ours * South Pacific *The Parent Trap *The Swiss Family Robinsons (I mentioned it in a comment further down) *Bedknobs and Broomsticks *So Dear To My Heart

Katie Jackson

To say a movie is recognized as a classic is one thing... but SLIH is more than just classic... it's the standard against which all off-beat comedies have been judged... ever since Lemmon and Curtis met Monroe!

Terry Yelmene

I owned So Dear To My Heart & Bedknobs and Broomsticks on VHS as a kid. I watched them so much I nearly ruined the tapes

Katie Jackson

I see a poll with The Maltese Falcon I vote. Not sure why it is in a tender poll thuogh. It is more mystery but not going to complain.

Anthony Harris

For the TENDER pick- an Affair to Remember. HOWEVER i have been dying for Cassie to see both Some Like It Hot and Charade for such a ling time. Watch half in November and the other half in February!

Cathleen Jennings

It’s also a great family film, good for kids to learn about respect, honor and responsibility.

Catherine LW

+1 for Swiss Family Robinson (1960). As well as… So Dear to My Heart (1948) Treasure Island (1950) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971)

Larry Darrell

If we get My Fair Lady, Cassie and Carly have to sing along to all the songs! "Come on, Dover..."

Chris Clarke

+10 for Captains Courageous (1937). Now THAT is a Tender movie.

Larry Darrell

I've voted for My Fair Lady, but won't mind if Some Like It Hot wins: classic film!

Chris Clarke

Same thought. The Apartment (1960) was advertised to Cassie, a few years ago, as a Rom-Com as well.

Larry Darrell

From Here to Eternity for veterans day! This is the war movie referred to in The Godfather. Frank Sinatra got his role with the help of the mob and then won an oscar for his performance!

Gary Granata

In that case it is still more effective to pick the one I want most rather than spread my votes around

Neill Shaughness

I don't mind Howard the Duck. As long as he is indeed tender. Maybe in an orange sauce.

Happy Hanukkah

I was Right! People do vote for the Most Recent Film! ;-)

Larry Darrell

"Wouldn't it be loverly, Sam?" *slap* :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Unless Cassie uses the number of votes received by the losers as a gauge for which movies get a second chance...

Happy Hanukkah

All the movies on this poll ones that you should watch at some point. They are all great movies. They’re all a little bit different but each one is a classic and its own right. ā¤ļø

Jed Logan

"the love story in THAT movie!" I found the relationship between Gutman and Cairo very touching. :-|

Happy Hanukkah

I'm a traditionalist. I'd rather have a single vote that moves the needle a little than several that are too marginal in their impact to matter. Thankfully I'm good with any of these. Been a while since I loved every film in a pole

Neill Shaughness

after, Foul Play (1978), get ready to take a chance again on the pairing of Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn in, Seems Like Old Times (1980). ;-)

Larry Darrell

You’re right…I changed it up a bit.

Dan M

Or vote for all except the 1 or 2 you don’t want to win. Which also rarely works.

Larry Darrell

I walked up to Sam Spade and told him he was tender. He slapped me. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

One day I swear we will get to Charade.

DAVID COSTELLO

Great for the pre 1970's poll please do more ! Cassie ALL the Cary Grant movies need to be seen. They are so classic that Carly and you both can enjoy every second of them without fear of covering you eyes a millisecond while watching them. Please do a whole month of Cary Grant movies ! Then Jimmy Stewart !!!

Keith Brown

+1 for Tender Mercies (1983). Robert Duvall singing in his Oscar winning role.

Larry Darrell

Sadly time is not what I have a lot of, Mike.

Robert Jewell

At least one of the Cary Grant movies needs to be watched...if not all of those listed, as well as half a dozen more.

crazyivan

Stalag 17 deserves the great praise it's received. Funny enough to inspire the Hogan's Heroes TV show, but still poignant with timeless truths and riveting drama.

Steve Holton

Charade is criminally underrated

Brian

Ha!

Catherine LW

Or Maltese Falcon. Love them both, but miscategorized.

Catherine LW

This entire post is one long spoiler

Just Plain Bob

Great movie!

Catherine LW

Audrey in Givenchy… šŸ˜

Catherine LW

Yes, we Patrons have to let Cassie know that she can just ignore that YouTube poll! We won't be upset!

Mike LL

I see what you did there, Stick!

Mike LL

Oh, Cassie has stated that it IS on her PPOTM list. Kind of sneaky of her putting it on a poll so it can be watched right away. But it doesn't need a poll win to be watched. Only needs time.

Mike LL

Nobody's perfect.

Stick Figure Studios

Or even just a movie where someone does a hilarious Cary Grant impression.

Stick Figure Studios

I respect Billy Wilder as a filmmaker and I love many of his films, such as… Ninotchka (1939)… writer Ball of Fire (1941)… writer Double Indemnity (1944) The Bishop’s Wife (1947)… writer Sunset Boulevard (1951) Ace in the Hole (1951) Stalag 17 (1953) Sabrina (1954) The Seven Year Itch (1955) Witness for the Prosecution (1957) One, Two, Three (1961) Avanti! (1972) Some of these, I consider Masterpieces. However, for some reason, people seem to see 2 of Wilder’s most popular films differently than I do. Some Like It Hot (1959) & The Apartment (1960)… …are my Least Favorites of his. The latter film being one of my least favorite films of all time. I’ve never understood how people classify The Apartment as a Rom-Com, when the best I can classify it as, is Dark Comedy Drama, Heavy on the Drama. There’s definitely a few more laughs in Some Like It Hot, but… Since it seems very apparent that Cassie will be watching it for Tender November, I’ll just say, I hope Cassie has fun with it. :-) I’ll give it another try too… even though I’ve given it many tries over the years. ;-)

Larry Darrell

And Curtis doing a hilarious Cary Grant impression.

Stick Figure Studios

Maltese Falcon is great but I don't think that one fits the bill here. It's a twisty mystery, not a romance.

Tyler Foster

Have to agree on Jack Lemmon, Dan. I always loved him and he's even better in The Great Race (1965). Just never liked the film, that's all.

Clarence Newman

That’s hilarious!

Catherine LW

Ah yes. The little people.

Clarence Newman

Maltese Falcon and My Fair Lady are my picks.

V M

Correct

V M

Yay to Cassie for having a pre-1970 poll.

V M

No way is Some Like It Hot Overrated! The premise is great, the acting is great (especially Jack Lemon), the music is great, and the laughs are genuine. However, can’t fault you either for wanting Gentleman Prefer Blondes and The Seven Year Itch.

Dan M

"An Affair to Remember" is the perfect Valentine's Day movie.

Bill Maurer

Howard the Duck won a YouTube poll, don’t blame the patronsšŸ˜‚

Cole Jennett

The Maltese Falcon is a have to watch regardless of what category it is.

Wallace Marbach

Yes indeed. One of Hitchcocks best. Chemistry between Grant and Kelly is great

Jason Mangen

Cassie you should consider doing some classic Disney Live Action Movies. There are some really good one's. A personal favorite is The Swiss Family Robinsons made in the 60's.

Katie Jackson

I had a similar experience with Some Like It Hot in college. Except I had already seen it before, but my roommate and about 5 other guys on our floor had never seen. So we all gathered in my room to watch it. They all loved it…and 2 of those guys decided to dress up as Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon dressed up as women the following Halloween.

Dan M

It probably won't win but you HAVE to watch Charade. It's my favorite Cary Grant movie. Him and Audrey Hepburn are just awesome together. I even got my then 10 year old hooked on the movie lol

psu01414

Eventually…eventually

Dan M

Would love to see Captain's Courageous make a poll.

Rob

I remember in the 70's there being a comic sequel to The Maltese Falcon, called The Black Bird - but I never saw it so don't know how funny it was. So I was thinking of other funny detective movies from the 70's and Foul Play popped into my head. Then I thought of Fletch, where Chevy played an investigative reporter (the role he was born for, IMHO). It's a little early in the week for my brain to be wandering . . .

2-Can

Sooner or later it’s gotta happen, right? šŸ‘

Dan M

We'll get to it, Matt, there are so many great Cary Grant films!

Mike LL

All good points Clay.

Dan M

In the future, I think Cassie would like "The Prince and the Showgirl" (1957)

JAKH

I think she would indeed enjoy The Maltese Falcon very very much. She might be slightly not in the mood if she watched it expecting a romancy type film, but watching the film itself she would like the mystery and the detecting very much!

Mike LL

Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon dressed up as women, playing in an all female jazz band, all sorts of hi jinx happening…and Marilyn Monroe. It’s a no brainer…gotta vote for Some Like It Hot. Let’s start off Tender November on the right foot.

Dan M

You’re right. I remember she spent the latter part of her life in Africa.

Starpartyguy

Oh please, "Some like it hot" for the win! This is one of the best screwball comedies ever...šŸ˜šŸ™šŸ»šŸ˜€

silverarrow06

Wow again! How the shell could Some Like It Hot be viewed as a tender movie???

John Liebling

You should actually watch all these movies. It's a poll with all winners.

Sandra Jewitt

I do think having a retro and more modern poll is a great idea

Tony Tenser

That is the way I've always thought, Neill. I usually just vote once, because I don't want to dilute my vote. Had to vote for two in this poll, though, my beloved Bringing Up Baby and To Catch A Thief!!

Mike LL

An Affair to Remember is referenced in a ton of other movies.

Sandra Jewitt

Definitely thought of that as one of her picks of the month, Clarence and kind of hoping for it, eh?

Robert Jewell

Some Like it Hot is a great movie, but trust me, you guys will love To Catch a Thief. It's hard to go wrong with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly

Sandra Jewitt

Exactly, Catherine. She and Carly would both love those especially after there MI BYC trip to visit Mr. Cruise and how stunning they looked.

Robert Jewell

If you haven't watched First Contact yet, then no you haven't LOL

FleetAdmiralJ

I'm a big Burt Lancaster fan, and I should be thrilled with a movie of his on a poll, but he's standing in Cary's shadow in this one.

Mike LL

I think I just voted for almost all of these.

Jennifer Medicus

Cassie loves Grace Kelly. No matter where it finishes, I wouldn't be surprised if she Popcorn picked it.

Clarence Newman

we need another straight 'film noir' poll. Would love to see THE THIRD MAN get in there.

Matt Rose

Can't wait for that one. It's one of my favorites and by s mess up in the title sequence it's in the public domain šŸ˜€

Johnny Salinas

I hope Carly joins her!

Catherine LW

Grace Kelly in those gowns… absolute goddess!

Catherine LW

Another list with LOTS of great movies. Despite my love of film noir, I voted for To Catch A Thief. Hitchcock classic and led to Grace Kelly's marriage.

Peter Dillard

I want Charade in a big way. But I do really love Some Like It Hot.

Walter

I voted for To Catch a Thief which at some point you've got to watch because as far as I know it has everything you enjoy: romance, atmosphere, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, stunning costumes by Edith Head and cinematography that'll 'pop' your socks off so...

Robert Jewell

my choice would be THE AWFUL TRUTH if we could do any CG film.

Matt Rose

I love all of these films, especially the Cary Grant ones, but I have a fond memory of watching Some Like it Hot with my roommate in college. We were both drunk, came home and started watching it. We laughed so hard, we were literally rolling on the floor, clutching our stomachs in pain. ā€œI’m a girl, I’m a girl, I’m a girl!ā€ šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

Catherine LW

as God as my witness, PIB WILL react to Charade...some day...some day...

Walter

Come on, Cassie! Tell us you want to see another Cary Grant movie right away, without telling us you want to see another Cary Grant movie, right away!!

Mike LL

The Maltese Falcon is a masterpiece. The first major film noire of the classic era. Dashiell Hammett, the writer, based the character of Sam Spade off his experience as a detective. He said that Spade was who every detective including himself "wished they were. 😁 Humphrey Bogart as Samuel Spade is my 2nd favorite of his characters. First being Fred Dobbs from Treasure of the Sierra Madre

Zane From Canada

Thank you for throwing me a bone at the end. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Yes!

Catherine LW

Alright then; where's my Brigitte Bardot movie? :-)

Happy Hanukkah

I'm a big fan, but it is indeed out of place.

Happy Hanukkah

Come to think of it, with Cary Grant being offered in four movies in this poll, I'm just going to have to demand a Cary Grant movie in November, it is only fair!!

Mike LL

I voted these five: 1. To Catch A Thief (1955) is on my watchlist. The next Hitchcock I want to see. Has the stunning Grace Kelly. 2. Some Like it Hot (1959) -- I've seen. I am fine with it winning. 3. My Fair Lady (1964) has the advantage of being the most recent movie, which I tend to vote for in these old movie polls. Plus, Audrey Hepburn is beautiful. 4. The Maltese Falcon (1941). I rarely watch pre-1950 movies but I am in the mood for an old noir. Plus, has Bogart and Lorre. 5. Charade (1963). A more modern movie. Plus, again, Audrey Hepburn is beautiful. While I am curious to watch a young Katharine Hepburn, I did not vote for Bringing up Baby (1938) because not in the mood for a screwball comedy this old.

Clay F

Welcome to The Tender November Poll (Pre 1970) otherwise known as The Honorary Cary Grant Poll since he is the star of four of the movies (and is imitated in a fifth!!!). (Actually, the French Riviera is the true star of To Catch A Thief, but Cary does get first billing!)

Mike LL

'All of the Above'. That said, I opted for CHARADE and BRINGING UP BABY

Matt Rose

The lead actors were born pre-1970 so it counts. Therefore, seconded!

Clarence Newman

I know, right! Just watch them ALL!

Mike LL

It would be great if she watched them all. I voted for My fair lady, Maltese falcon, and Charade. Great movies!

clutchkman

No, she was known for bringing the world’s attention to starving children in Africa. Poor children were her main advocacy, especially when famine hit Ethiopia. She knew what hunger was, as she starved during WWII. She was a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF.

Catherine LW

Yes! Overrated! That's three people who've said so. Cassie, it's not too late to sub in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or The Seven Year Itch.

Clarence Newman

I didn't even notice To Catch A Thief was on the poll, being so distracted by Bringing Up Baby and The Maltese Falcon!! Actually, Cassie needs to see every movie on this poll! And I'm sure one day she will!!!!

Mike LL

Ooh, don't do that, William. Some of them voted for Howard the Duck!

Clarence Newman

Feels good to be voting for the winner! (Hope that trend continues…)

It's not just me then, Mike. Some Like It Hot is so revered, but I have never liked it. You might have a point about Curtis's performance, although Marilyn is not at her best either.

Clarence Newman

I haven't seen Foul Play for decades, but something inside me says it was a really fun film.

Clarence Newman

Agreed on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Without giving a spoiler, there's a scene in there where Marilyn makes the very beautiful Jane Russell completely disapper from the screen. Breathtaking beauty and elegance.

Clarence Newman

Don't love this poll, although it will be good for Cassie to finally see some Marilyn Monroe. I always knew Some Like It Hot would be the one picked for Marilyn, but it really isn't her best. I would've much preferred Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or The Seven Year Itch. I think To Catch a Thief is the best one on here for Cassie. She likes Cary Grant and absolutely loves Grace Kelly!

Clarence Newman

Early days, but `Some Like it Hot` and `My Fair Lady` are top 2 right now, both are pretty high in my personal request list.

Planner

Pair The Maltese Falcon with Foul Play (1978 - Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn). But if you see Foul Play, you should see Chevy in Fletch (1985)

2-Can

My favorite is The Maltese Falcon but I doubt she would really enjoy that and does seem like an odd inclusion. So does From Here to Eternity. I would rather have seen something like The Awful Truth or The Philadelphia Story or Holiday or His Girl Friday, all great Cary Grant movies, or even one of the Thin Man movies. And I know Some Like it Hot is more praised but my favorite Monroe film so far is Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Maybe a month of film noir, of which there are dozens and dozens of classic films.

thansen

It's a solid list. But for a true Tender November palate cleanser - Maltese Falcon out, The Court Jester (1955) in.

2-Can

To Catch a Thief and Charade.... 2 of my favorite movies. 3rd would be My Fair Lady.

I’m doing a write in vote for The Music Man

bknsty14

AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is so very much in your wheelhouse, Cassie.

Steven Perez

I’m so torn!!!!! 😩

Catherine LW

If I vote for all of them I might as well vote for none of them

Neill Shaughness

Bringing up baby !!

Neil Varma

You can vote for as many as you want. Hell you can vote for all of them if you want.

Jake McNulty

I would normally be very upset at this poll, but didn't I just get Arsenic and Old Lace JUST LAST WEEK?!? Yes I did. So I won't be absolutely torn apart by Bringing Up Baby LOSING YET ANOTHER POLL (sorry for the all caps folks, but that is the best descriptor as to how I feel šŸ˜‚) All that being said, I just can't be upset at My Fair Lady or WHAT 😮 THE MALTESE FALCON?!? What is THAT MOVIE doing on the Tender November poll? Oh, wait, of course, she will love the love story in THAT movie!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I see Some Like It Hot threatens to beat Lady and Falcon both! Oh well, I'm not the biggest fan of that one, even though it is a fantastic Billy Wilder film, it has just never grabbed me. There is something about Tony Curtis' performance in that movie, I'm sure Cassie will notice!!

Mike LL

Never seen To Catch a Thief, but I've wanted to for a long time. So I'm voting for that.

Carolee Barry

One of the toughest choices I've had to make on one of theses polls in a while

Neill Shaughness

Watch "My Fair Lady" regardless of which film wins the poll.

Titus Belgard

My Fair Lady! The Maltese Falcon ! Could be quite luverly!

rakesh

Haven’t seen any of these films so I’m going to abstain from voting in this one. And rely on the judgement of my fellow Patrons

Robert da Spruce

So many great movies here. I picked some like it hot because it is a screwball comedy, but My Fair Lady is awesome. The Maltease Falcon is a must watch at some point as Is Charade. Now this is a group I can dream about.

William Brownlee

I liked Some Like It Hot but I wasn’t bowled over so I think it’s a tad overrated however Marilyn Monroe is always worth the price of admission alone. I’m personally pulling for To Catch a Thief ā€˜cause it’s right up Cassie’s alley

Rosario Cicero

Some like it hot, Some like it hot, Some like it hot, Some like it hot, Some like it hot, Some like it hot, Some like it hot! … or My Fair lady.

Ria Grix

All the above,'My Fair Lady' I've been wanting Cassie to watch that technocolor eye candy,Audrey Hepburn movie since day one!ā¤šŸ”„

Celeste McAllister

A lot of great films here. I almost don't care what wins.

Stick Figure Studios

Thank you for the poll Cassie, I love the classics. Hope you and Carly can do Gone With The Wind sometime. I know you'll not be disappointed. Thanks again for all you do.

Brian Wood

Audrey Hepburn was so amazing. Ended up being an animal rights advocate

Starpartyguy

From Here to Eternity is one of my top "classic" films for sure, with a great cast!

Terdell Ferguson

BRINGING UP BABY and SOME LIKE IT HOT!!! I also put in a vote for Charade - a breezy Hitchcock-like thriller with some laughs.

Jonathan Caro

A movie that should really come up on your after 1970 tender fim vote is the movie, Tender Mercies. It's a great small Robert Duvall movie.

Tomt39

To Catch a Thief can’t catch a break on these polls. But Some Like It Hot is too much of a juggernaut.

Alex Villarreal

Watch Some Like It Hot and you will never once regret it in your entire life.

12CLASSICS

Whoops - didn't read carefully (pre 1970). Don't care! ;)

bgb1975

Maltese Falcon is so good, but there's really no bad choices here.

Godzilla Jones

I don't think you'll find "The Maltese Falcon" to be that tender šŸ˜€

Johnny Salinas

"Bringing up baby" by far is the best movie on that list even though some like it hot as Marilyn Monroe I personally have had with the cross dressing thing

(Nolo)finwe

I’ve Been waiting for her to watch To Catch a Thief ever since she watched Rear Window. Hopefully it wins šŸ¤žšŸ»

Alex Gorell

For me it's "Some Like it Hot", "My Fair Lady", "Charade" and "From Here to Eternity".

Jake McNulty

Hmm Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly....

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I have a write-in: "A Perfect World" (1993)

bgb1975

I think I’ll vote for all of these!

James UK

The Maltese falcon or some like it hot!

Jose Deleon

This poll isn’t for me.
